Been waiting a long time for something like this

I’ve downloaded and used nearly ever app available on google and apple trying to find something that works this well and accurate. Do all my rocks get properly identified…no,however, I’m also not a geologist so maybe there’s a few I’m wrong about. RockIdentifier gives multiple choices to run through and info about those choices. I’ve not used another app that’s as accurate or pristine. My only issue with RockIdentifier is the astronomical price combined with no feed to speak to others about what you have or help identifying in a way that a computer can’t pick up. I know I will be canceling my membership shortly because I can be paying this much for a visual collects and identification to only use a few times a month but that app it’s self is total great. I think 12$ a month would be pushing it but that’s the most I’d be willing to pay month to month. Try RockIdentifier for at least a month if you are a rock hound or trying to boost your knowledge. It’s pretty good and easy to use.

Love it!

i’ve been trying to get into witchcraft lately and i’ve loved finding out the healing properties of different stones. i have some red agate, but i couldn’t find it on RockIdentifier . i have realized some of my stones were on RockIdentifier , but didn’t have the tab of “healing properties”. (the stones are garnet and tiger’s eye) i’m not sure if this just means they don’t have healing properties, or if RockIdentifier just doesn’t have the info. i’ve tried to test RockIdentifier and see if it would pick up the stones as what they actually are, but it was incorrect. my stones are really tiny, like grains of rice, so it might just be the size. other than that, i collect rocks and it’s great to know what they are and if they have any healing properties.

however, i do have a suggestion. i cleanse my crystals with moon/sun water and it would be great to know if my newer crystals can be in water or not.

No more witchy wonder

Ever go to the witchcraft store and buy up a bunch of crystals and rocks and then get back and put them in the salt so that they cleanse and then never get around to cataloging them and then they sit there for months if not years in moonlight and getting dust from the shelf and you think “ I have to get on the Internet and I have to figure out what each of these rocks is it’s gonna take forever” and so you never do it and they continue to sit there? Well, you don’t have to do that again! Just use RockIdentifier and identify what you have and save a collection in RockIdentifier ! I love the people who made this. If only it had a sister app or feature for us witches or new age people to add features we need to remember .!

Great Potential-rockhounders best friend

Needs more rocks in database that it can identify. There are some obscure ones but it seems to always choose the same ones. Also, I have put in probably 100 name suggestions to add, going through those more and adding more would be very appreciated. It is great for cataloging. Oh, and when I search my catalog, can you make it to where it searches all the words, the description, locale, everything. It shouldn’t be that hard to adjust. Especially when the name isn’t in system and I have to save it under something else, I put the right name in description and want to be able to find it again. Or search by locale or other things. I am probably the user who uses your app the most if you can look and see. I use it daily. So these improvements would make my life so much better! Thank you!

Useful app!

I collect crystals, but sometimes I forget what they were. This is the best crystal app I’ve encountered after searching for one for a while, I definitely recommend to anyone with any interest in crystals! SO MUCH INFO!! About crystal/stone/gem in RockIdentifier . All the information is ACCURATE! is anyone interested in crystal healing? I know its a pseudoscientific alternative-medicine practice, but I mean its really fun. I love that it shares with me not only healing properties crystals but history and the geographical backgrounds!

Only 1 thing RockIdentifier is lacking. I really wish that I could share the crystals I identified or create my own additions to the community where there would be plenty of happy people out there!

Must Have App For Geode and Crystal Identification

This is a fantastic free and paid app! I now have the premium version and it is so easy to use- you literally take a picture of the geode or crystal in question and RockIdentifier immediately begins to identify it. Even better, it doesn’t give you the same handful of results and doesn’t read everything as quartz, which is a nod to its intelligence, in my opinion. It has been incredibly accurate and has a lot of knowledge, which it freely shares. Pics upload clearly, which is always appreciated (the apps camera is better than my iphone cam…). Try it out, you have literally nothing to lose!

Great for scout leaders

At first I was disappointed that it didn’t show the rock type but it was user error lol once I got more familiar with RockIdentifier I finally noticed what was right in front of my stupid face LOL
It really is a great app; very accurate as far as my limited knowledge can tell. Just take a good picture and it will give you the right answer. However, as a scout leader I would only be using RockIdentifier maybe once a year while we do our Earth Rocks lesson so I personally can’t justify the price of $30. But if you’re a rockhound I would recommend RockIdentifier.

It’s okay

Sometimes, it’s spot on! And sometimes not, but I like that with every photo I upload, it gives multiple suggestions for what the stone could be! Usually after further research, it’s one of those suggestions, though not always the first “most accurate” one. I have a couple crystals that I’ve wanted to identify, and though the results weren’t exactly accurate, it gave me a place to start, when I wouldn’t have known how to! I can further look up all the suggestions it gives and usually can find it that way, when without RockIdentifier , I wouldn’t have known where to start. For a beginner like me, it’s helpful, but definitely not always accurate!

Good idea/intentions—needs lots of work.

I used RockIdentifier at first trying to determine the type of stone I had as I had forgotten the name of it. I was 90% certain it was a variation of moonstone, but needed an opinion.
Well, it identified the unknown stone, the white moonstone, and my peach moonstone as Carnelian Agate. 🤦🏻‍♀️ None of the stones were anywhere near as blood red–pink as Carnelian Agate is.
I’m going to take photos of all of my stones that I am certain of their type and submit them to RockIdentifier to further RockIdentifier’s usefulness, accuracy and ability to identify other user’s stones.

Until then, I’ll continue to rely on more experienced, trustworthy, educated sources. Definitely don’t trust RockIdentifier ’s answer blindly. You could be holding an amethyst and RockIdentifier will tell you it’s Onyx.

Beyond amazing!

This is my new favorite app! It’s informational and it has everything I could possibly need pertaining to rocks and minerals. Wether it be for school purposes, hobbies, or even just for fun this is RockIdentifier for you! Not only is it informational, helps you accurately identify any rock you can find and is rapidly updating with the most recent information so as to identify more rocks! I would rate RockIdentifier as a 12 out of 10. The best app I have found, it is definitely worth a download. You won’t regret it!

Eh…

RockIdentifier is great if you really know crystals or rocks and just are uncertain of a few. It gives you a few options and one of them is right about 60% of the time. If you don’t know much about rocks RockIdentifier won’t help you much as sometimes it will give you options that straight up don’t make any sense. If you know rocks you’ll know it’s wrong. Personally it’s always gotten the obvious ones right. when I was testing it out it got crystals like rose quartz and amethyst correct, but couldn’t identify BISMUTH which is extremely unique or selenite which also is very specific. I would take your pics on a white background or a pice of paper for best results.

Lost me at “Healing crystals”

Was really liking RockIdentifier and the scientific explanations and descriptions of how rocks form, how to identify, etc. Seemed really cool.

Then I stumbled on descriptions of healing crystals/rocks. Wut? For example, obsidian = “Obsidian is considered a protection stone, that shields against negativity with truth-enhancing properties. It is said to bring clarity to the mind, drawing out mental stress and tension that sometimes leads to confusion. You can carry it with you to help ward off negative forces or keep the stone in your home, office, or anyplace you need protective energy.”

Are you kidding? I refuse to support this pseudoscientific nonsense and nobody else should either. Unless a rock/mineral has shown scientific evidence for health properties (like those minerals in many coenzymes and vitamins), we shouldn’t be spreading “healing crystal” nonsense. Very disappointing.

Great Helper

RockIdentifier has come in handy. I started using it in October and I use it daily now. I make jewelry and only use genuine gemstones. I have collected gemstones for years, bought a lot of jewelry. The company I bought all my jewelry from also has a jewelry school one of the hours of fine jewelry. So I know the stones and RockIdentifier is right on key. I have only one or two. That I thought I need to check this again. It’s wrong. But it isn’t. I enjoy RockIdentifier. I will always use it.

No such thing as a 1 week free trial

It says that the first week is free and after that you can choose your subscription. That is a lie… My card was charged about $23 that I am still waiting to see credited back. It’s now 3 days after that free week has ended and a week +3 days after I made certain that I cancelled everything so I wouldn’t get a subscription fee. If they’re going to be dishonest about not getting charged until after the first week, then give me full access. I’ve already been charged for it. Or credit it back. Otherwise RockIdentifier is little more then a scam. They will charge you despite saying they won’t and then keep that money even after you cancel everything.

Pretty much love the app

If I could give four. Five stars I would. What I love is the accuracy of the rock identification app and the details provided, especially what it was historically used for and it’s possible healing properties. Sometimes though if you take a picture of the same rock but I had a different angle it will give you a completely different rock identification. This makes it hard sometimes to figure out which rock it is actually. Overall I love RockIdentifier though it’s been very educational and fun to go exploring with my kids.

Fantastic

I’m not brand new to crystals however I am brand new to collecting. My knowledge on different identifying marks and Crystal identification is very slim. My collection has grown tremendously, seeing that I didn’t really have one prior to this, and RockIdentifier allows me to keep track of what I have and what they are. I am not even close to completion of adding my current collection to RockIdentifier, but in my opinion this is a magnificent tool to have.
Absolutely amazing!

Thank you!

Dissapointed

As someone who works in close running of a crystal company, I’m very disappointed with RockIdentifier. I bought it to see how it worked, hoping there was something out there to help crystal beginners.
It’s unfortunate because I saw great reviews and had high hopes.
You can imagine my disappointment when RockIdentifier couldn’t identify any of my crystals correctly. Ranging from moldavite (a relatively unique looking crystal) to a common price of selenite which is very easy to identify. I just don’t recommend this. If anything, use the image search on Pinterest. Even that will get you better results.

I hate giving bad reviews, but don’t believe the hype.

STEALS MONEY. DOESN’T WORK.

RockIdentifier is terrible. It doesn’t identify anything correctly, even those minerals that should present no difficulty at all. If your “rock identifier” can’t tell the difference between malachite and carnelian, you need to go back to the drawing board. The only picture RockIdentifier correctly identified was of rock crystal (clear quartz) - and that was only the first time. The second time I submitted a photo of the exact same specimen, according to RockIdentifier it had magically transformed into FREAKING OBSIDIAN.

In addition to being absolutely useless, RockIdentifier also charged my husband’s card $30 for a year-long subscription, something he didn’t authorize and didn’t want.

I wish I could give zero stars.

I use this a lot.

While RockIdentifier doesn’t always get the identification correct it does a pretty good job. I like all the descriptive text that comes with each rock type and I especially like the fact that it lets me correctly identify samples when the solution is incorrect. While not perfect, it’s a great start and I enjoy being able to help improve RockIdentifier through using it.

By

Really not sure…. ????

I just subscribed to RockIdentifier and tried to ID 2 different rocks. RockIdentifier gave me 2 different ID‘s for each stone. RockIdentifier is fast, but for me it didn’t seem to work very well. I’m canceling my membership today.

I was asked by RockIdentifier if I wanted to update my review. I do. This seems to be a usable app. I tested it on several more stones and RockIdentifier was correct. I did throw it a curve with a piece of impact material from a meteor strike. App got that one half right. One GREAT ASPECT Is the ID speed of ID’ing. App just not for me right now.

Detailed and helpful

I downloaded this when it first came out, it was fun right out of the gates. RockIdentifier is ridiculously cool as a new field of exploration, including detailed information of the rock. More users using it will make the data more accurate. Expect!

I knew it was too good to be true

Not accurate. I got RockIdentifier to double check some rocks on a lab for a geology class. I know what rocks are in the kit. Not accurate at all.

I took 3 pictures of the same rock, at different angles, and got 3 different identifications on the rock. Now I don't feel confident about the suggestions this app makes.

Christopher winkler   2 years ago

Consistently identifies the same rock as a different variety with each picture. Lots of fun but I don't trust it.

Kathleen Myers   3 years ago

When I do a reliability check by taking pic at different angles, I may get different answers. Why? And when the app gives three pics of other rocks, why? They look different. Are they meant to be alternate answers?
