Rise – Bread Baking Reviews

This is a great app. It’s thoughtfully designed and you can really tell that its creators bring a lot of passion to the subject matter. I’ve made a few attempts at the sourdough hobby in the past and this app is making this current go the one that sticks (much like a 80% hydration dough). The simple utility of having dynamic timers and instructions makes such a difference over static recipes. If you’re just getting into sourdough Rise is your best friend.

I’m sure the devs have a feature list a mile long but one thing that would be really cool would be a way to share or view “community recipes.” You see this sort of thing on workout apps a bit and I think the possibilities of opening up their system to create a robust library of user or expert generated recipes could be game changing.

Anyway keep up the great work and thank you for building this!

Just putting in my 5 star rating for Rise. I’m an absolute beginner when it comes to sourdough. It took me a week, but I was able to creat my own starter from scratch.

From there—on one fine day—I had enough confidence to make my first sourdough loaf. Did I go for an easy recipe? No! I hunted and found one that looked delicious though.. with cheese and walnuts. I swapped out pecans (I’m in Texas) and got to it.. and wow, could not believe what came out of my oven.

I took pics and shared on social media to which my friends said ‘bragger’ and ‘show off’ and they had a point. But it *was* good looking and *was* super tasty.. so I was proud. And none of it would have happened without the help of the this app app.

I have two main issues with Rise, which seemed very promising.

The big one is that you can’t enter tsp amounts smaller than 1/2 tsp. Need 1/4 tsp of something in a recipe? Too bad. That makes Rise unuseable for me. I do almost everything in grams, but things like dried herbs or extracts or yeast are commonly measured in fractions of teaspoons.

The other issue is that while you can enter a start time for a recipe, what’s really needed in a bread making app is being able to select an END time so it could tell you roughly when you’d need to start to have bread ready by that time. I’ve always found that the most frustrating thing because many people want to target a certain meal to have bread that’s just finishing cooling, but apps and recipes are designed around the idea that people just want bread whenever.

My first review was five stars because of the obvious care that the developers did on creating Rise. After the latest update, it deserves another 5 star review. These people know bread and software. I can store favorite recipes and change and adapt as i go for the next bake. The only shortcoming that i can find is you can only run one recipe at a time. I contacted the developers and was told that they are working on a upgrade to this issue. My thanks to someone who understands how to bake and what it takes in time and effort to turn out a successful loaf. (Best thing since sliced bread).

I’ve worked a bit with dough before (my family has a history of baking), so when the sourdough craze started I wanted to hop on and see what I could turn out. A friend gifted me some starter and I used the instructions in this app to make my first loaf! Managing all the phases would have been a major pain without the guidance Rise provides. The proof is in the pudding on this one: my loaf came out pretty tasty with their basic recipe. I’m looking forward to baking more sourdough and using Rise as a diary of notes to help me become the next Paul Hollywood!

I love to bake but don’t have a lot of free time and was finding it difficult to keep track of schedules while multitasking during this day. Rise not only allows me to centralize my notes but also reminds me through my phone notifications of key points in the process AND helps me calculate bakers percentages. Thank you so much for creating a fun and great looking tool for busy bakers.

This is a very well designed app, and I think it will be useful for many bakers. However, it's common for serious bread bakers to keep their recipes in BBGA (Bread Bakers Guild of America) style formulas, which is not possible in Rise.

If "BBGA style formula" means nothing to you, proceed without worry; you're going to love Rise! However, if, like me, you were hoping for a slicker, easier way to manage the BBGA style than a custom spreadsheet, this isn't going to work.

I’m building an app that is a lot like this app, but for homebrew beer, and was immediately impressed by this app’s thoughtful design. Nearly everything about creating a this app, tweaking the recipe, to the timers during the process is just great. My bread baking skills are still at the beginner level, but I’m looking forward to using Rise to track what I change and how it affects the final loaves.

Never wrote any reviews for any app before but I’ll have to give you guys 5 stars for such a sleek app! Love it!

The only improvement I could think of is making the edit function a bit more smooth, it takes a few seconds for Rise to react whenever I hit edit a recipe and type in my adjustments.

Seriously!? ... Somebody did it! Somebody sat down and said... man, I bet there are a ton of people out there that would love have a versatile and flexible app that would serve as an excellent tool to aid them map out their bread baking process while collecting their favorite bread baking recipes.

I’ve been using Rise for months with just the free features and it took all the stress and thinking out of my bakes. I finally upgraded and am hitting myself for waiting so long. Rise is so much better unlocked, totally worth it.

5 stars would bake again.

I’ve been baking for a while and just found Rise. It makes planning my bakes SO much easier. It’s a simple idea but the developers executed it so elegantly. I just hope there’s more recipes in the future!

Of all the sourdough apps I’ve looked into this is by far and away the most robust. It makes experimenting easy, fun and reproducible. I love all the options, and I can sync to all devices whether I’m in the kitchen on my phone or iPad. Thanks this app team for a great app!

It is like the creators of Rise read my mind as far as what instructions I needed and how they should be delivered. Can’t wait to try the other recipes on Rise !

Need a simple timer PAUSE function so that there’s no need to keep adding more time and have the while clock run smock when you need to stop for something like more stretch/fold or other distractions...

I love Rise , makes it super easy to follow along and teaches nice tricks along the way. First loaf came out great!

I do wish there were more recipes to choose from, though.

Note one for paper notes to track my bread development, Rise is the perfect answer for me

I just purchased yesterday and have yet to receive notification alarms for feeding my starter. I cannot figure out where to request a refund either. So disappointed.
