Very slow and kinda laggy

I just activated my card today and I was very excited to use it with along with HEBDebit but HEBDebit turned out to be not that great. It loads very slowly compared to all my other apps so I know it can’t be my connection or anything. It’s very easy to use but I’m taking two stars away for lag and slowness, overall a good app!

HEB can do better than this

I signed up for this card online. I was asked to provide proof of identification. Between the time I was asked to provide the proof and the time that it took me to gather the proof to upload it, the system timed out and would not let me start the process over. I stopped trying and completely forgot about it. A few days later, my card showed up in the mail. Ok, so I go to activate it online… enter the card info and it says they need further details please call a 1800#. I called. A gentleman answered with a heavy accent and he kept asking me “the year the account was created”. I thought it was an odd question since this card was just rolled out this year. So I kept asking him which account he was referring to and he said he couldn’t answer that question. So he just kept asking me the year the account was created so I finally answered “2022”. He then said he was going to transfer me to someone who can help me continue getting my account set up and then the call dropped. I tried calling back and the number would not go through. HEB is an amazing company that makes a ridiculous amount of money. Y’all can do so much better than this. This was such a huge disappointment.

Unable to add funds

I was excited to get the H‑E‑B card because that’s where I do all my grocery shopping and prefer the H‑E‑B brand over the name brand items. I have had my card for about a week now and have not been able to use it. When I go to add funds by transferring from an outside debit card I get the same message every time. “The address information provided does not match your account.” Which I don’t understand that message because when adding card information it doesn’t ask for the address. The address on my account is the address that was provided with the proof of identity that I had to provide… which that was a hassle to. I answered all the questions correctly but somehow they couldn’t verify me so they required documentation. I submitted a message via the secure message board and that has not been helpful at all. I have the latest software update for my phone and the most recent update for HEBDebit so it’s not an issue with that.

Super Buggy! Unusably So!

HEBDebit has bugs galore! Lots of buttons don’t work & it is super laggy. It’s always disconnecting your linked bank account & you can almost never make a bank transfer to get money into your debit card, rending the whole thing useless. It constantly displays the error message “You transfer could not be complete” nearly every time you try to put money in (I have tried about 20 times & it worked only twice). The 5% back is nice on HEB products but not worth the amount of time you waste trying to actually make the card functional. Going back to 3% Savor Card.

Update: Tried to fix the deposit problem by calling customer service & they were super rude! They took away the option to “bank transfer” entirely & then it wouldn’t let me add a card. I tried to call customer service again to get a card added & they hung up on me twice! I called asking to close my account & they hung up on me again! HORRIBLE!!!

INCOMPETENT !!!

So I already had another NETSPEND account, and I love shopping at HEB, so I decided to give this card a try. I signed up for it, and within TWO DAYS, I get an email asking me to call a toll free number to finish the set up process??? So I call them and I get a call center in Asia !!! 😡😡😡 And these geniuses say that the Debit Card got returned to them because my address wasn’t valid ??? Ummm…. HELLO ?!?! It takes more than 2 or 3 days from the time I sign up until the time I’m supposed to get a card in my mailbox ?!?! MORONS !!! I closed down the account immediately. And of course, 5 days later, I get their stupid debit card in my mailbox 🤬🤬 COMPLETELY INCOMPETENT !!! BECAUSE OF THIS COMPANY’S INCOMPETENCE, I CLOSED DOWN MY OTHER NETSPEND ACCOUNT AND GAVE MY BUSINESS TO CHIME !!! If you trust your money with these people then you DESERVE to be disappointed !!! You’ve all been warned…

The most difficult un respectful customer service ever

Being that I gave the star one star I been disrespected on the phone lady talked to me so disrespectful for absolutely no reason they mailed me a card to my house thinking me and my wife was going to use the card nooooo I was wrong the lady back lady me talking bout I’m a fruad this and that no they denied me access to they sevices when this the first time I ever ever use this acct or card I didn’t even use the acct or card the card just came today and it’s going back to them to day I put up with a lot of things they talk about us for no reason I had enough of disrespectful customer service lord give me strength by not cursen people out I try to be a better person

Terrible

I would not advise anyone to get this debit card by H‑E‑B. First off, each time I call customer service the agents all have Indian accents and never American. They don’t resolve things. I have a dispute that has been opened since May 2023 and each time I ask about it, I’m told that I would be contacted in 2 business days. I honestly don’t use the card and haven’t in months. H‑E‑B has alot of great things, but this card isn’t one of them. I also find it odd when I would go to my local H‑E‑B and ask them how to load money on the card, the employees would be clueless. I’m like you are pushing people to get this card and yet the H‑E‑B employees don’t even know how to work the functions of the card!

Very hard to add funds

I linked a bank account, used it once, and then HEBDebit said there was a problem and I had to re-link it. I tried to do that, and it said there was a problem and I need to call customer service. I also tried using another debit card, but setting it up requires verifying a micro deposit, which never came. I’ve been putting off getting groceries all week trying to get some money loaded on this thing, and it’s really frustrating that nothing works.

Virtual card

I went into the store and tried checking out with my virtual card , since I had forgotten my actual H-E-B debit card. The cashier said they don’t manually enter H-E-B debit card numbers! I then lost $2.95 fee to transfer money back to my account and then also didn’t receive 5%benefits for store brand products. I believe entering my card manually would of worked but the associate seemed like it was a burden rather than trying to figure out how to manage the situation. First bad experience and will probably never use the card again.

Good

Good app however some issues for example I’m trying to take a picture of my paycheck to scan in the system and it says due to your most recent transaction we cannot do this for you and we’re closing out money account. However, I call HEB Devon and they said everything is fine on my account and they’re not closing it, and also you’re not widely excepted. For example, I’m trying to invest my money in Robinhood and Robinhood does not support HEB debit. Please become widely accepted. Thank you.

Unable to transfer money

Beware! You’re only allowed 15 funds transfers per month. I was given no warning and am now unable to transfer (and consequently am unable to use my card) money onto my debit card. I was in line and had to abandon my groceries due to this.
When I called they told me it was for security purposes. I love H-E-B and have loved my H-E-B debit card since I got it. This however is not at all convenient and is making me question whether I want to bother with it anymore

Easy to use & cash back is a huge plus!

HEBDebit must have been updated since previous reviews were written. I've had zero issues adding funds or navigating HEBDebit . Instructions are very straightforward. Very excited to continue to use my HEB debit card and receive cash back with my purchases!

Needs overdraw protection

Finding where to transfer money IN is very easy. Hiding transfers in between savings/checking is difficult. Overdraw protection would help make the experience way easier, as I believe you only get the high interest rate in the savings.

I manually move money every checkout now , which slows me down in line or on the curbside app.

Card Issues

I can’t load money via the debit option because HEBDebit and the website gets stuck in a loading screen.

So I then go to my local store and I still can’t load money into the card. I contact support and they tell me to just go to the store and try again.

Meanwhile they don’t tell why this is happening or if there’s anything I need to do in order to fix it.

Unable to add funds & worst customer service!

I was excited about using this debit card from H‑E‑B especially with the cash back option on H‑E‑B products. I was able to link my external debit card from my bank and made a few transfers. However now I can’t transfer any more funds because the Representative is saying I’ve reached my limit of $1000. I’m no way near that limit! Was on hold for 40 minutes and still my issue is not fix!
What the use in having this debit card if you can’t use it!

Lame App

HEBDebit cannot even do a simple image capture of the back of the check. Did a manual capture to deposit funds and the check was rejected. The offered explanation was I made he check payable to myself. It clearly said HEB Debit. I’m cutting up the card and closing the account. H‑E‑B needs to stick to what it does best and get out of banking. Disappointed!

Nope

I love my H-E-B and was so excited to use the debit card feature. I was thinking it was more like the Target red card; linked directly to an account and with automatic savings at checkout. There are numerous shortcomings with the H-E-B card/app.

First HEBDebit is junk. It is slow (when it works at all) and I can’t even activate the card to use it.

Additionally, funding the card in order to use it is a tedious system and IMPOSSIBLE since HEBDebit won’t work to activate the card.

Also, the savings only apply to certain brands purchased. Don’t get me wrong ….. I love the store brands and purchase them regularly but I thought it was an across the board 5% savings like the red card.

I’m hopeful that the kinks will be worked out later but for now this gets a big fat zero for me.

THE WORST

can’t transfer money and they outsource customer service. I called to get resolve the problem and the geniuses told me it was my bank account having an error when I had to pay with my bank card because theirs doesn’t work. They won’t transfer you to a manager for help. They just repeat what you say over and over and don’t resolve anything.

What’s the point of having a H‑E‑B debit card when you can’t even use it to get the cash back

Impossible to add funds

Tried to do a mobile deposit. The camera won’t align correctly to take a picture of the back of check. It also would automatically take a pic when it was clearly not in a correct position to accept the image. Multiple attempts to get both images and even after all that, I got a submission error and it said it would accept the deposit. Disappointing, to say the least.

Could be so much better

Target already has a successful debit card and app. Did not need to reinvent the wheel. This depositing money or payroll deposits is absurd. Customers are basically loaning HEB money interest free until are funds are used. Now HEBDebit does not open (error message) and I need to add funds to place a grocery order but I can’t. Funds should just ACH transfer from linked bank account automatically when using the card.

Very upsetting on deposits options

Why can’t we just add money from our regular debit cards? What if I don’t want to go In Person just add money from my bank debit card? You would think they let you do that since H-E-B is a big company. Get it together with all the different payments options we have. Cash app. Zelle. PayPal, vemo and which you all don’t take any of these to transfer money or even use these to pay. And when on earth are you going to accept cardless payments on your system in store? No Apple Pay or anything with people stealing identities .

Worst experience ever!

When I first got my H-E-B debit card it was working OK. Lots of bugs and laggy but still worked. My bank had issued a new debit card recently because my old one was expiring. When I went to add it to my H-E-B debit account after adding my new card I get an error that my back has declined the transaction and to contact the issuer. Which I did and was on the phone for 20+minutes with them trying to find out what was wrong which they said everything was working properly. I called HEB debit customer service and they said the same thing and to contact my bank. HEBDebit is really lackluster and it’s pretty convenient for HEB that all the sudden I won’t be getting cash back from my groceries. Horrible service and horrible experience. I’ve spent all morning dealing with this and got nowhere. Thanks for nothing HEB.

Not good.

In summary: the physical and technical features of HEBDebit and the HEB debit card system is about one decade behind its time. Very slow, glitchy app and not a lot of options for wireless transfers.

I had to talk to customer support because my account was blocked because I changed my address because H-E-B would not allow varying addresses on the account and debit card account. I get it, kinda. But a bit extreme to block an account when there are several ways to dual authenticate these days.

After speaking to customer service i got it resolved (yay!). However, I no longer have access for bank transfers. Why? They couldn’t give me a direct answer. Just, “That service is now provoked.” Awesome.

Then, I go back to try to use the debit card transfer. Now a lovely screen pops up saying “We were unable to load this page at this time” every time I try to complete a debit card transfer. Awesome.

HEB- great idea and service to your loyal customers, but absolutely poorly executed. This has potential to flourish, but your lack of innovation is holding it back.

Really enjoying it

I usually have used the H‑E‑B Netspend prepaid account and payed the 5 dollar monthly fee to have a checking and saving account since about 2016. When I found out H‑E‑B has a valid debit card i immediately got one so I can start using my account and more places since some don’t take prepaid cards for traveling and such. Since getting it a year ago I have had no issues. I get my daughters SSI and paycheck despite’s 2 days faster and hope it keeps working great . If you have trouble getting a regular bank account cause if late fees and pay due balances then I recommend this one for sure. Also it’s in my State of Texas so that’s pretty cool too.

Horrible service and app

Haven’t been able to add funds in months. Signed up for this card with my partner. We kept getting an error when trying to add my funds. I called my personal banking institution Capital One who told me they were allowing the transaction to go through but seemed to be blocked by the vendor (H‑E‑B). We called H‑E‑B debit and they said my card was flagged as “risky” but they would not elaborate or give us a real reason. They told us to call Capital One and we told them that they already stated they were not blocking the transaction. H-E-B customer service then said something was potentially fraudulent on my card but would not explain. Mind you all I do is pay bills and transfer money to the card. There is nothing fraudulent about my transactions. We will be cancelling the card and go to another service who doesn’t have shady practices. If I could give 0 stars I would.

Slow & Janky

I will follow H‑E‑B to the ends of the earth and they can do no wrong in my eyes — until we got HEBDebit. It’s slow and now multiple times, I get an error message when transferring money into my account. I just get a red ! inside a triangle with zero explanation why. Multiple calls to customer support and they tell me it’s my bank, yet my card goes through just fine every other time.

Forces me to order my groceries using my regular card, this forfeiting my 5% cash back — which feels like foregoing a reward for being a lifelong customer and buying store brand products.

Just not good at all.

Holds your funds hostage

Did an external account transfer over 72 hours ago and HEBDebit is supposed to reset every 24 hours to allow you to transfer up to $500/day out, which is already a crazy low rate. Rent is coming up due and my funds are literally being held hostage by H-E-B. What should be an easy bank to bank ACH is turning into me having to figure out alternative ways to get access to my own money. Not cool and not worth 5% back on JUST H-E-B branded groceries when there’s credit cards that will offer 5% back on the entire grocery basket.

An Excellent Grocery List Maker

The H-E-B app is a great boost to planning your shopping trip, and helps to notify you of sales. The only two improvements I can suggest is to allow family members to link their accounts, and/or shopping lists, like Sam’s Club does.

Also, there are times when you’ve clipped digital coupons that are important to you, fulfilled all the requirements, but you are still not credited for it at the register; only to discover this once you’ve already gotten back home. This needs to be fixed (on an ongoing basis) if people are ever going to trust this system.

The only problem with this account it's hard to make a deposit without going into store. I use curbside. Deposit on line are slow and hard to get a response back . It's very hard to make a deposit with a personal check on line. If you have help with this issue let me know.
