BEWARE - All data gone!

BEWARE!! I had previously set this new app up to work along with Sunny Portal. Both were working fine some time ago - although, I must admit the old Sunny Portal app displayed more data than this new one and I always preferred and used the old one up until now. I signed into Sunny Portal today, first time in a while, to view my solar station’s stats and it said I had to use this one. So, I opened up SMAEnergy and there was no data anymore. I was instructed to either create an account or transfer data. I tried to transfer, but it would not work. It did not except my credentials. Also data transfer does not appear to work for the PV system that I have; 2 Sunnyboy inverters with each having a Webconnect module (No batteries or Web box). When I entered the name of my system to be imported, it said it was not possible,So it would appear that all my historical data is gone! All I can say is it worked a while ago and now it does not. What am I supposed to do? Just a short update, as I did go into Sunny Portal on my Mac and I was able to see the current data as well as all historical data. So it appears that it is an iOS app issue. This new app needs to be able to import ALL existing Sunny Portal accounts!

Worthless

This new app is worthless and buggy. Please bring back the old one. The missing logbook is what really knocks SMAEnergy below 1 star. The new pastel graphics are hard to read. The graph scales using light gray font over lighter grey background is very difficult to read. I have to use a magnifying glass to read it. The expected yield portion is totally useless, and is not information I care about, a waste of processor cycles, memory space and battery usage on my phone. Also a waste of development budget to design and build it. I gave SMAEnergy 1 star because it will not allow zero stars.
After several months it is still worthless. Now it is showing a privacy statement that I can’t get past because it doesn’t have an agree or cancel button, just a button I will not tap because it is in some foreign language so I don’t know what it says. It is the most worthless app I have ever downloaded. Strongly considering changing my inverter to a different brand when I add additional panels that will require another string that is not supported by my current SMA inverter.

Useless app upgrade

The original app would let me drill down into the system logs, as well as giving me a more detailed look at the system functions. This updated app gives me a warning that there’s something wrong with my system and to check the “Sunny Portal” for further information. If I click on the Sunny Portal app, it states it’s no longer supported and routes me back to the “new better app”. This is a royal run around that the developers should have tested before releasing it on SMA customers.

I ended up using a browser to access the Sunny Portal site to figure out what’s going on with my system. The contractor that installed my system refuses to monitor it, installed a component that hasn’t worked from day one, and I can’t find another SMA contractor that is willing to look at the system.

Works well with even more info than previous version

I just made the switch since the previous SMA app is no longer supported. I was pleasantly surprised - all my historical data transferred over! The info is clearly organized, with better graphics and additional enhancements making SMAEnergy easy to understand.
I was reluctant at first given a few unfavorable reviews, but my experience was perfect. SMAEnergy works as it should and I am happy to be able to continue to monitor my solar system as I have over the last 7 years. Thanks SMA!

Previous sunny portal app is better, provided more information

Unlike its predecessor the sunny portal app, this one does NOT provide nearly as much specific information about one’s system,Including the current status of each inverter.

It seems as if SMA no longer wants to provide an app that offers users the detailed information reported by inverters, in a solar generation system.

As noted above, SMAEnergy is much more limited. In essence it offers only an estimate of the energy output of a system by day, month or year. Previously detailed information about power output and System status from each inverter is no longer available.

I agree with other reviewers, that SMAEnergy is a huge step backwards, and provides very little of the information useful made available in the previous sunny portal app.

It feels as if SMA no longer wants to bother supporting a useful, comprehensive app.
A real shame!

Please bring back and keep the previous sunny portal app! It is much better than this superficial clunker!

Worse than the app it replaces

I honestly was not a fan of the previous sunny portal app but this one is somehow worse. It tries very hard to be stylish and smooth but is way overdone. At least the old app started quickly, maximized the space on-screen with simple bar charts, and was easy to navigate with swipes. It could have been much better but it was fine.

Unfortunately SMA deprecated Sunny Portal and this is the only option. It makes poor use of screen real estate, is hard to navigate with the arrows, and is clunky.

Please do better

I can see what I produced today but when I go to the history tab it will only display total energy produced for the week. The day, month, and year tabs show nothing. Additionally, the production and expected production graphs need to adjust based on system size. I have a 6kW inverter... My y-axis shouldn't go up to 500kWh for the day. That will never happen. And why my expected production for a single day 300kWh? These are simple, common sense fixes. It's 2022. I can track the journey of my pizza, deposit a check with my phone, and send money around the world. Why can't SMAEnergy display simple information in a sensible format? I've emailed my SMA rep twice with no reply. Please fix SMAEnergy.

The old “Sunny Portal” is so much better

This new app is so much worse than the old Sunny Portal app that was great because you can have good overview about what your technology was doing. This new app tries to be simple, but in the wake of that, it creates menu after menu which makes it a nightmare to navigate. What is worse yet, this new app doesn’t even have an iPad version so when I try to use it on an iPad (which I usually use over a phone), it is just this small thing that only takes up half the screen and can’t go into landscape mode.
Please bring back full functionality to the old Sunny Portal app so that I don’t have to use this terribly made app.

By

Why?

Now I have to scroll around on the monthly view to see all the days instead of just seeing all the days on one screen.
Also, and for a long time, why does my drag move the chart - that doesn’t need moving - but I have to click several times on the chart to get the peak reading (instead of the chart staying stationary and the highlight on the reading moving).
This could be soooo much better.

bad bad bad

Terrible app. Forced to use instead of the Sunny Portal which offered way better details and no clutter. The content is confusing and full of deficits: E.g. PV production „Forecast“ starts at 30% of real time value? Doesn’t make sense… E.g. Tariff only accepts fixed rates, not time-of-use rates which are very common. E.g. „avoided“ CO2 is completely arbitrary and so is the km estimate of my vehicle. E.g. where is the Alert logbook? E.g. why am i forced to look at ugly generic shutterstock-type images while sunny portal had my actual system picture and pfofile info? Lastly, Developer advises to install a SMA 360° app, but it’s not available in my country!!

Nice to see accurate current watts

Unlike the old Sunny Portal app, this one shows the current watts produced, which is a nice improvement. The production graph is still delayed around 30-90 minutes which is a little frustrating. I’d still like access to more detailed real-time information like AC and DC volts, amps, etc. Hopefully that will get added in upcoming versions.

Garbage app

I’ve been using the “old” SMA app for over ten years. It worked perfectly without any bugs that whole time. I was strong armed into downloading this dumpster fire of an app with in-dismissible messages in the “old” app.

This new app is pure trash. Super buggy - switching between “history” and “overview” causes SMAEnergy to sometimes show a blank page, or display half of both pages at the same time.

I don’t have an electric car, but it won’t let me enter “0” for my car “usage”. No way to hide this info. Bone headed.

Charts are really hard to read for no reason.

“Forecast” is absolutely laughable and makes no sense. Not even remotely close to being accurate. Who designed this crap?

This is a half baked app I’m being forced to use. Every developer of SMAEnergy is incompetent and should be fired. I would rate zero stars if I could.

Big improvement!

Not sure what some of these odd reviews are. The new application is far and away better than the old clunker. Better look, all the old info and more. Looking forward to additional updates and improvements.

Step backwards

The old app was much better but it won’t let me access it any more. My local network was down after a power failure and took several days to get fully operational. Once it reconnected the old app would download all the data from the missing days, the new app leaves a permanent hole in the data. The new graphics are silly— I was fine with the straightforward graphs and accurate numbers before.

By

A step backwards. Either develop an app or just don’t!

The original “Sunny Portal” app wasn’t great but it worked mostly OK. This new one? A BIG step backward. First, it’s iPhone specific so won’t display properly on an iPad (why do this!?)

Then it can take an age to load properly and once loaded has a bunch of display issues and is slow. It’s annoying that we’ve been forced to use this useless thing now.

By

This needs a lot of work

Your new app assumes you only use a phone. SMAEnergy puts a tiny screen on my amazing iPad Pro with the keyboard that is just ridiculous. I thought I could just ignore the new app and continue to use the old one, but now I’m being strong armed with a warning window that requires I load the new inferior app. Really disappointing SMA. Before you force us please create a full version that will give a full screen view in landscape mode on an iPad.

Keeps crapping out

We’ve had this system at our fire station for about two months now and this is the second time I’ve had to go hunting for the initial password for SMAEnergy for my iPhone. Also, doesn’t provide nearly the amount of information my home system’s app (My Solar Edge) does.

By

A GIANT leap (back) for (solar) mankind!

This new app replacing the retired Sunny Portal app is a major step backwards! The functionality and information available through SMAEnergy has been reduced. Too bad the web portal is now the sole source of relevant and useful information about our solar system. One hopes that forcing us to install this new app is not just cover to harvest more of our data.

Why break SMAEnergy that works? Come on, you can do better than this!

By

If it ain’t broke….

Very disappointed with the updated version of SMAEnergy. We haven’t had history for over a week. There’s nothing wrong with our system- checked with the installer. We’ve had our system for almost 5 years and enjoyed the data from the old app. While this new version may have some enhancements, the graphics aren’t as good and we have more trouble accessing our data.

By

Can you add system log access.

I found the system last g the most valuable part of the old application. Any chance of you adding it to the new application. I have an older system and it helps to troubleshoot problems.

By

Dashboard only shows one inverter at a time

I have few inverters and it’s painful to click on each to see dashboard data.
Dashboard should show summery of every inverter

By

Doesn’t show everything!

Doesn’t show everything like it does on SMAEnergy Store. Why?

By

Expected more…

Seems SMAEnergy is equivalent to previous just better graphics.

By

Awful

Only iPhone mode? Does not show half of the information that Sunny Portal app did. Why bother?!

By

Deficiencies in new app

SMAEnergy doesn’t have a landscape mode.

SMAEnergy doesn't have kWh/100miles (only uses kilometers) for EV usage.
