Charge approval is flaky and the chat feature is an embarrasment

As with almost every time you try to use your debit card for something above touch limit, the process of getting approval is toth-pulling. Last time I had to kill HSBCUK and start over. The chat feature is presented as if you're actually chatting with a person, but is some NLP bot. I haven't needed anything that the bot couldn't answer, but it's bound to happen. It's also somewhat dishonest presenting it as a human interaction when it's clearly not.
Oddly I have a standing payment to an external account, but if I try to enter the same information as a payee, I'm told that the recipient cannot be verified and HSBCUK refuses to continue. If their competence level is that low, maybe just trust their customers? It's my money after all. Or is it not?
As a Premier customer I can say that HSBCUK is quite representative of the overall HSBC experience: rubbish.

Can’t get past Home Screen!

I don’t use HSBCUK very often but it’s the only way I keep track of my account. I tried to log in a few days ago and I’m just stuck on the first screen and it doesn’t move. After a few seconds there’s like a flash as if doing a screenshot or photo. A few times it moves into another screen with tiny wheel then within 2 seconds it’s off and I just have HSBCUK logo. I thought it was a glitch or maybe they were updating but it’s still the same. PLEASE FIX IT! I have no access to a computer currently.

HSBC going down hill

1) there are some offers popping up at the top of the screen but they disappear at next login and there’s no way to find them back again and activate. I tried luck on you customer service chat - took 45 minutes for an agent to login , then took another 20 minutes of back and forth idle periods just to come to a conclusion they haven’t got a clue on how to find any info on those offers

2) the credit card repayment flow doesn’t suggest any amounts to be paid - so I have to keep jumping screens back to memorise to outstanding amount I have to pay !

3) I left a written request for mortgage department call back , but nobody ever bothered to contact me

4) it takes several days for a transaction to post on my account

5) your next page screen asks me to pick a nickname - first of all WHAT FOR, and then it doesn’t accept anything I pick anyway

By far the worst banking app ever

Absolutely the worst banking app I have ever used:

-HSBC credit card should be linked to your debit account and easy to directly transfer money- the money transfer tool is the weirdest thing I’ve ever seen in a banking app- not at all intuitive
- messages seem to get sent to three different locations within HSBCUK - this is crazy! I kept getting emails that I had a new message but naively thinking I’ll check the tab entitled ‘inbox’ only to see no new messages until finally I discovered two other tabs where messages are saved!
- the chat/support feature is useless. No one ever responds - just delete this feature it if you can’t be bothered to support this feature
-why can I not update my home address in HSBCUK? This is also crazy! I can transfer money but I can’t change my home address? I guess I’ll just let HSBC send mail to my old address and they will have to cover the cost when someone steals my new credit card and uses it fraudulently...

I have bank accounts with multiple other international banks and they have intuitive apps that actually work- really don’t understand how HsBc got it so wrong with HSBCUK

I can’t reliably access my UK account in the US

I have a Uk HSBC account and can access HSBCUK well in Japan where I travel for work, but when I travel to the US HSBCUK gives me server error after server error. It doesn’t run without crashing. Sometimes is works for 20 seconds if I’m lucky, and then when I get to the transfer screen after a certain point I always get a server error and lose everything I typed. Very annoying. Please fix this ASAP.

Cheque deposit feature hasn’t worked for months

On the whole HSBCUK is good, but despite trying tens of times having had multiple conversations with support staff who really try their best the cheque deposit feature hasn’t worked for months when I have really, really, really needed it to during the pandemic. Being abroad and having UK cheques in hand that I cannot deposit no matter how many different backgrounds I try, whether or not I endorse the back, whether my time/date is set to London, New York or automatic time zones is unbelievably frustrating and soul destroying. It is substantially impacting on my quality of life ... and, at this point, my ability to buy food. (Are we really meant to be taking a picture of the back of the cheque when it is entirely blank?) It it maybe an iPhone problem?

Registration not great

Doesn’t tell you the password requirements, just tells you if you didn’t meet them (not why). The confirm password field isn’t coded correctly, so if you put the password on your keychain, you can’t insert it into the confirm box AND the confirm box doesn’t allow copy/paste AND you can’t unhide the password to ensure you’re typing it correctly.

Also, it has a timeout running in the background but you can’t see it, not even when it runs out. So if it does run out early in the process (like while looking for a passport), it will let you do several more things then at the very last screen tell you that you took too long to do it. Should kick you out much earlier to avoid wasted time.

Worst system going

Every time I try and log in to online banking the experience gets worse, I understand about securing my account etc but come on this is ridiculous, the number of hoops I have to jump through, it’s almost a 5 min issue every time just to log in. Almost ready to close my account and go to another bank, I was with Midland Bank for years and then it changed to HSBC, really aggravated British Citizen living in the USA

Good bank app

HSBC bank app (for iPhone) is easy to use and very convenient when I need to transfer money or make a payment on the go. It's definitely easier to manage my money on the phone app than the computer app.
The fact that every few months I need to login again is an impediment but luckily it's easily overcome.

The difference between U.S. and U.K

I have been a premier customer of the bank globally for over two decades. I am always staggered by the difference in customer service between the U. S. and U.K. The U.K. customer service is consistently excellent while the U. S. Is except for rare exceptions dreadful.
I guess that reflects the decision the sell most of the business to Citizens Bank.

Too many numbers!

The accounts are way too complicated to access or do anything. I dread having to log on! It usually takes 5 to 10 attempts and a phone call to do simple tasks. I have other accounts with other banks that are much more streamlined. Please consider the customer experience not just security.

Why not support US accounts too?

I have accounts with HSBC in both US & UK.

You forced me to update to this new app when I switched the old one over to the UK account and that’s effectively locked me out of the US accounts too in the old app. All I can do is see their balances.....but that’s all.

Seriously.....you market yourself as a global bank.....please act like it. If you’re not ready to upgrade HSBCUK for the US yet, that’s fine.....but allow the old app to carry on working!

It works!!

I love HSBCUK. They put more functionality on a regular basis and I almost never run into issues (once long time ago I had to re-register by calling HSBC because the process got blocked). I just registered my new iPhone this week and it was super easy to do. Banking for the 21st century... and no, I did not get paid to write this review, I simply deal in similar ways with banks in the US and they are a decade behind!

Appreciation

I use HSBCUK on the go. I have all the info at my fingertips except a few minor things. It’s understandable due to security reasons which necessitates logging on from a laptop. Been with hsbc since 1981 in multiple locations - the most professional bank

Doesn’t work properly with iPhone X.

My experience with iPhone 6 is perfect, but when I bought this new iPhone X the application doesn’t support face id nor to generate security key. I don’t know how you say it supports iPhone X.
I migrated all my data to new iPhone x and still I don’t have that smooth access like before.

Best for international students and Expats

I have been using HSBC from last 2 years. They have options to manage your money globally with global money account and they made international payments really fast.

As bad as ever

I was forced to reset my password so i chose a new personal question and a new password yet when I log into the mobile app it clearly has the old password format. I have tried this a number of times with the same results. I have to use the secure key to use HSBCUK .
As others have said too many hoops to jump through to get anything done.
Easily the worst banking app I have used.

App cumbersome

App could be easier to use, most apps work when you click on credit card balance you can just hit pay

Superb Mobile App

It is such a wonderful standard of service that
I am very happy to be able to work with you
on my banking.
Thank you for making life so much better.
