Outside Temperature

Where is the outside air temperature as measured by the system!?! It’s front and center (at the bottom) in the Carrier Home app once you select the thermostat and I’m not talking about the forecast temperature. I want what is actually measured at the unit, not some number that might be coming from a weather station miles away. I won’t use CarrierSmartHome until you have it! Back to using Carrier Home, app deleted… UPDATE Even worse now you have bricked the old app and can’t go back! Shame on you, now give me OAT and I’ll stop putting negative reviews everywhere and even turn them positive once you fix this travesty!!! This value is essential to optimal heat pump use!!!

Horrible App - Keep the old version

Any review that says things like great improvement making CarrierSmartHome more modern is a company shill trying to market CarrierSmartHome . The “Nest” like controls are horrible and difficult to precisely adjust. I have 10 infinity thermostats with several zones. At the main level all three of my basement zones only display basement. I cannot tell which zone is which without clicking into each one…Really! Then the notifications-they are not in chronological order nor do they say which thermostat the notification is from and you can’t click it to get more information. So bottom line, notifications are useless! Does Carrier really think a clunky Nest “copy cat” that makes things harder is an improvement, then I need to start looking elsewhere for my next unit.

Ability to Change Modes is Gone

I don’t know if this is a bug or an intended feature, but in the last week or so CarrierSmartHome has changed and no longer allows me to switch from heating to cooling. I live in Texas and the weather changes on a dime this time of year. I sometimes have to switch between heat and AC four times in one day. All of the sudden I can no longer turn cooling on if the system is off or if it’s been in hearing mode. The button is simply gone and I have I have to go downstairs to where my wall unit is to change it or turn it on. I hate this system.

Another terrible design

Much like the last app, this makes me regret installing a Carrier system. First, removing “Carrier” the name of CarrierSmartHome and using “SmartHome” as the name conflicts with other apps making it harder to find. Next, the required naming convention for parts of the system (thermostats, etc, is poor. But adding insult to injury is the user interface. Like the last app, it over-emphasizes the wrong things, hides functionality, and does it in a hard to understand and hard to read way (for those of us who require even minimal vision correction for reading). Finally. The system is proprietary making it nearly impossible to automate with anything that is actually smart.

I would recommend checking out other providers and using a more sophisticated thermostat. The awful user experience is just one more painful factor contributing to an under performing system.

Horrible rewrite

CarrierSmartHome makes even more windows to separate settings that should that should be on a single page. Very confusing. CarrierSmartHome only operates full screen with a tiny bit of data at the top of the page.
On normal operation CarrierSmartHome does not even operate like a thermostat. Again multiple screens or one thing. Outside temperature s no longer listed on the thermostat screen. There is a weather forecast but it does not match the location programmed in the thermostat.
Thankful the old app is still available.

More to work on

In comparison with the previous version this version does not show if there is currently active heating (red numbers) or cooling (blue) taking place. This is an unfortunate loss of feedback for the user.

Also, it is not clear that this user what the difference is between Carrier Home and this app. Is one a replacement for the other? Which one should we use? Why are there two apps?

Thanks for reading.

Still only 4 comfort profiles

The comfort profiles are not helpful compared to being able to tweak temperature based on time. I want to run my fan weekly while my house is getting cleaned, I want to be able to set more than 4 temperatures in a day. I also want to see the graph of usage and temperature over the day to know when the heating ran. These are way more important than silly UI changes. Please fix this instead of just rewriting the look of CarrierSmartHome .

Too many tabs, bad setup for temp control

I see what y’all were going for with the horseshoe thermometer concept. In practice though, it’s hard for anyone 30+ to get that accurate when setting the temperature. Please change to a vertical or horizontal scroll wheel (see Price is Righr, wheel) that’s easier for folks to use. This semicircle scale just isn’t doing it for us.

Additionally, my system isn’t controlling to my humidity set point. I’ve put in a ticket and look forward to a response. If I’ve set humidity to 48% max, why is my wall unit saying 56%?

The buttons at the bottom aren’t an elegant UX setup, in my opinion. Idk, I think y’all should restructure CarrierSmartHome , with a UX input from a different test group. This is… wonky. Thanks for the overhaul though, I know this must have been hard to build.

Not an Improvement over the Old App

I guess you could consider the appearance more modern, but the functionality is no different than the old app. In fact, the old app is easier to read. All 4 of my zones appear on the screen without scrolling like I have to do in this new app. Also, my old app shows when the furnace is heating or A/C is cooling while this new app doesn’t do that. Odd.

Overall, I don’t see the point.

No Cooling Mode

This was an auto update from my previous app and since then neither app gives me Cooling mode as an option. I can switch to heat mode but only way to get back to cooling mode is to go the wall thermostat and change it there. The old app turned cooling mode subdued and won’t let me select it ! This new app doesn’t even give me cooling mode as an option ! Also on CarrierSmartHome , I no longer have the option to set it in auto with a temp range so it can go to heating or cooling whichever is needed to maintain the desired temp range.

Please fix and update. My wife is disabled in wheel chair and I am not always around. This makes it very inconvenient for her to adjust temperature in our house.

Unfinished and doesn’t work properly

I started using CarrierSmartHome because the prior Bryant want was being shut down in favor of this one (Bryant is one of the Carrier HVAC brands). CarrierSmartHome is nice and sleek, much better than the old Bryant App, but it appears unfinished and hastily put together.

The worst: it doesn’t work properly. I adjusted the fan setting and it disables the continuous fan even though it was turned on in CarrierSmartHome . It even showed as on on my wall controller. The only way to turn it back on was to change the continuous fan setting back and forth for every comfort profile on my wall controller.

Please make sure your app works before pushing it out to people.

Worse than the last

The Cardinal sin of taking functionality away from users when you “upgrade“ your app. has been committed here. You will lose functionality, such as being able to see the outside temperature, if you use CarrierSmartHome.. the rule in the face of such terrible planning is to stay with the old app until all the problems are fixed with the new one.

Same app, slightly different GUI

I’m just not sure what the point of this new app? It’s the same exact menus and options with a slightly different GUI. It’s not easier or sleeker, it’s just slightly different. Also, my system has an outdoor temp sensor. In the old app that reading shows up, but in this new app you only get an internet provided temp/forecast. The old app does both. So, in short, there’s nothing new here and if anything seems to have less features.

A little better now but needs more detail

Update: Overnight this new app appears to have synced with the information from the old app that had my devices and now this new app, for now, seems to be operating properly. There is a minor learning curve with the new minimalist design. Also, I wish it was much clearer what the outside and inside weather conditions are. An image of a thermometer is not specific enough to know if it is referring to inside or outside temperature. Will increase the stars if CarrierSmartHome becomes more user friendly, more intuitive. Yesterday, the new app kept forgetting my devices and randomly logging me out. Hopefully it remains stable going forward.

New Carrier SmartHome

I can’t say I’m a fan of the new interface. I have one master wall unit and three zones. I’ll continue testing. The old Carrier Home app didn’t match the wall console when occupancy zones were invoked, so hopefully they fixed that with the SmartHome app. The new app forces you to go deep into menus for information and controls.

New look; not interested

Classic example of corporate innovation; shiny new app that does basically nothing new. I would much rather Carrier spent their time and resources on integration with Apple or Google home. I don’t want yet another app that controls just one thing, I want to be able to control all my things from just one app! Aside from that, seems to work just fine.

Sleek, Modern Feel

The updated UI makes CarrierSmartHome look and feel like a 2025 app. It greatly enhances the user experience as things are easier to find and see compared to the old app.

I successfully onboarded my device to my home ecosystem effortlessly and it is much easier to select my desired conditions in my home.

The new app makes my life much easier and I spend half the time I used to configuring settings to my liking. Looking forward to future updates!

Finally functions properly

In addition to a new and better look, version 1.1.7 finally fixes problems of the last four years. Thank you. Even energy usage/cost is working.

The UI is a huge upgrade

I was honestly very happy when I downloaded CarrierSmartHome. It’s a huge upgrade from the old app. I especially enjoy how the scheduling tells me exactly which schedule is actually running. Glad to also see an enhanced temperature dial.

Fan of the old app, fan of the new app

I’ve always been impressed with the carrier app. It covers all of the essentials in a simple way without needing to come across as fancier than what it is. Not all innovation needs to have drama and bells and whistles associated with it.
The new app is a nice refresh. I appreciate that the company is putting effort into moving the ball forward. Keep up the great work!
