Worse than Old App

Ever since the update, I am not able to add the quick balances to my widgets on my iPhone like I could before. I was able to quickly check my balances by just swiping over to my widgets on my screen before making a purchase, but now I have to actually go to my app and log in and wait for it to load (ridiculously slow) before knowing how much I have. I can’t quickly make a transfer like before either and they have you set a date for the transfer to go through? They even have a message that if it’s after a certain time it may not go through which was never the case on the old app. I could do a quick one time transfer in the middle of the night if I wanted to and it would be fine. On top of that they’ve removed the travel notifications from DCUDigitalBanking so I no longer am able to set a travel notification without calling or emailing. Downside to this, I have to wait on hold for an hour OR email and wait TWO DAYS for a confirmation. I don’t think removing helpful features is the best way to make DCUDigitalBanking better and make banking easier for members. No one wants to go to a branch or wait on hold if they don’t have to.

Update: I ended up finding the travel notifications after posting this so ignore that part lol

Seems to work okay

I didn’t mind the old app because I got used to it but it is nice have a modern looking app now but I have complaints. Just to make a transfer you have to go through like 5 different screens which is just annoying. When you load up DCUDigitalBanking it opens in a savings goal and not your actual bank account, you have to click the tab at the bottom just to see your bank account. It doesn’t sound like a big problem but it gets really annoying. Also they NEED to make a widget for DCUDigitalBanking, it was super convenient having one because I can check all my info just by swiping over on my Lock Screen. Everything else seems decent and I like how you can add external accounts now. But they don’t even have a Coinbase option which doesn’t make any sense to me. Hopefully they’ll add it soon. I’m really giving it 3 stars because of it not having a widget, it was my favorite part about the old app and I was assuming they’d have it on the new one since widgets have been out for years…. Guess not.

SLOW and too many steps for everything

DCUDigitalBanking is soooo slow. It takes forever even to load the first page (which is not your accounts and that’s annoying and additional step) then to move to other pages, it’s terribly slow, once you get to your page it’s not user friendly, too many steps to make transfers, pay a bill or even see your activity. The old app was much easier to use and much more user friendly. When you want to pay a bill, you have to select from the first page from “payment” which gives you too many options, then to see if you have something scheduled it’s a different page now, before it was consolidated and showed all your information on one page. It’s just overall annoying and way too slow.

Might be ok if it didn’t crash all the time

I am not a fan of the new design. Some of it may be a matter of me adjusting to it but I don’t get the point of many of the changes. The dashboard shows nothing I am interested in, I want it to open to my accounts. Opening to the dashboard just feels like all of the other annoying apps that are designed around selling me other products instead of helping me use my current products. Drives me crazy!
I find it is more difficult to get to bill pay in DCUDigitalBanking than it was before (and I wasn’t really a fan of it before). I do like that external accounts now show on the same page as everything else (instead of under money management) but that’s the only thing I like better about this interface vs the old one.
DCUDigitalBanking crashes literally half the time I attempt to open it. Every single time I open it, it locks on the open screen then crashes after a few seconds. If I reopen it right away after that it works fine.

GREAT IMPROVEMENT!

I see a lot of complaints with the update, and I can't understand why. Must simply be people who have trouble adjusting to change. The old app was was barely functional. The UI made no sense, and it was glitchy at best. I honestly closed my account simply due to how horrible both DCUDigitalBanking and web page for DCU was, and now, thanks to these updates, I have re-opened my accounts and are looking forward to doing business with DCU!

This new updated version is worlds apart. Runs smoothly, and the UI looks way better. It's more modern, and it makes much more sense. I haven't explored it completely yet, but at this time my complaints would be:

1. It is a bit slow to load when you log in.

2. I see no advantage in having the "dashboard" as the landing page. I would very much rather see my accounts as soon as it opens and this doesn't seem to be an option.

3. On that same note, when I look at my account page, below my checking and savings I see these squares that say "Link credit card, loan, investment, etc." That feels unnecessary. It would be better if we only saw the accounts we have open or linked already. Otherwise it just feels like an incomplete process or like something's missing.

Abysmal failure

I’ve been a DCU member since 1996 and have used the old app since it launched.

It was exactly what I expected from a credit union: wasn’t flashy, but it worked great.

The new app/website is buggy, slow to launch, removes a bunch of useful features, and adds a bunch of useless ones.

Broken: - ability to pay my DCU mortgage (app tells me my payment was due in 1969, my auto payment failed this month, and DCU fined me $250 for being late). When I called today they apologized, waived the fee, and forced a payment through - only to have that same amount get returned to checking so my mortgage still isn’t paid - Quicken sync - CSV export (only the first line of register description exports, making it impossible to tell what each line item is)

Gone: - quick view, a feature I used daily to keep an eye on my balances (great way to monitor for fraud) - ability to sort registers - ability to quickly get to check deposit - ability to see balances at load - ability to easily change dates in a register by typing them (you’re now forced to use a calendar)

The last time I saw a new app/website launch with this many issues was in the early 2000s when we were still figuring this stuff out. That was 20+ years ago; there’s no excuse to launch a new product that is so broken. I never planned to leave DCU, but after DCUDigitalBanking/website I’m looking for a new bank.

Terrible App Design

DCUDigitalBanking opens to a page of services and directions- this is a banking app- I want to open to my accounts. Not the banking services I don’t want or need…that is cluttered junk.
The pay feature puts all sorts of random types of payments before you get to pay your bills. Then the pay bill feature is bulky and inefficient. It’s also confusing because when you make a payment it shows a send and delivery date…they are at least 1 business day apart. I want to send a payment and I want the funds out of my account and I want my bill delivered on time.
DCU has been my primary bank for years but between a botched mortgage refinance and this terrible app, it’s time to look at moving my accounts.
Damage control is critical at this time- they need to relaunch the old app, scrap this garbage. Then they need to look at competitors apps and figure out what we actually want as banking customers. Emulate that and then people might actually like DCUDigitalBanking .

Incompetent upgrade to new app

The incompetence and hubris of DCU in rolling out the new app makes me question the competence of the entire organization.
I couldn't believe they would make me re-enter all check payee info and wouldn't programmatically do it. Waited on hold for 1 hour to be told that I would indeed have re-enter all the data - so copied it all down with intention of re-entering it in a new bank and closing down DCU (after 20+ years). Turns out they DID transfer the data so will slowly transition from DCU. (Note to developer: memo shouldn't be with payee profile since it changes check by check - to write invoice # for instance). New app marginally worse, but all 'benefits' are to DCU trying get and manage more of your money... nothing customer or user oriented. Instead of a credit union sharing the 'profit', DCU pays terrible interest rates and spends $ to get bigger and support more management costs. Lost its way... DCUDigitalBanking upgrade is emblematic. Too bad.

Loss is quick-balances makes this update unfortunate.

I don’t mean to sound negative but the ability to check your balances from a widget was one of the greatest benefits of the old app. This new update seemingly has done away with this feature leaving you, the user, to have to log in anytime you want or need to check what your balance is.

The only other drawback is that that you have to search for your balances. DCUDigitalBanking is so muddied up with “new features” that it almost loses sight of why DCUDigitalBanking was created in the first place - to check your balance, make transfers, and do mobile deposits.

It seems like the devs were so pro yours with what they could offer, they lost sight of the consumer and missed the mark.

New app & website launch

Tsk, tsk! I decided to load the new app & then saw the reviews. Did not load mobile app yet! Many of the reviews reflect my experience on the web. My question is, who tested this before release. Did a true CUSTOMER forum participate during UAT, coupled with an internal operations group & manager? !!
The new website experience was painful. The dashboard is puzzling as the landing page. Printing is cumbersome (eg printing a processed check) Still haven’t found pdf function. Download to a spreadsheet is useful, but rarely. When in accounts, date range offering is cumbersome, February 1-28 still gave me 30 days, I liked the former functionality, i.e., older/newer at top/ bottom of pages. I think conversion for users could’ve been easier regarding setup of payers & external accounts. Oh well.
Keep trying folks, I’m sure it will be corrected with patches & future releases.

Quicken broken - large regression is usability

I use Mint for my personal financial app and it no longer works well with DCU. I see some (minor) improvements have occurred since this dismal disaster of a release was launched but it still requires me to “verify” my account each time I want to update it. It will not update on its own.

All other functionality has received a significant loss in usability and there is zero ways to customize the interface including avoiding the useless dashboard and the initial landing page or ordering accounts. I have some sun accounts for kids and I want to see them grouped in the order of my choice. It was acceptable before.

DCU - you have about 3 months of my patience (less if you don’t fix Mint) and then I’m moving to a new credit union or (gasp) BOA or TD Bank.

Finally - to those giving a positive review - you are entitled to your opinion but many of them I suspect are from DCU or their new partner attempting to offset the 98% of critical reviews since the launch. Don’t play the “people don’t like change” or “old people” card here. DCU had great features and people that are members are not technically-phobic users or don’t embrace change. Speaking for myself - I work in SW including UI design (all modes) and what I see here is unacceptable.

Train Wreck

Yup, I pretty much agree with other reviewers. DCUDigitalBanking is a train wreck, the previous one was around for a long time and worked well. DCU, you guys should know better than to roll out apps that are this clunky. It took 15 minutes on my first use to find the means to “sign out”…it’s in the membership tab, upper right corner. Why not have “sign out” available no matter what tab one is in? App opens on a useless tab, with useless information. Why do you care what my tax filing status is? None of your business, that’s what it is. I’ve been with DCU since it was little more than a one window counter in a makeshift space in various Digital Equipment Corp buildings, and have liked you a lot over the years. The past decade has seen DCU morph into just another big bank. There are plenty of credit unions these days, maybe it’s time to look around.

PEOPLE PAY IS GONE!

People pay is no longer an option on this “new updated” app! That is very disappointing considering people pay was how I paid my rent!
Not only is people pay gone, but now everything is literally placed in its own category, you have to go to a separate page to view your checking or savings account. (They are not on the same page anymore.) There isn’t a widget for quick balance either, so every time you want to look at your balances you need to manually open DCUDigitalBanking and check your balances. (Which also means opening up separate pages because your accounts are no longer combined on a single page!) I feel like DCUDigitalBanking is more time consuming if anything!

A bad upgrade

I was hopeful with the new app as while the old platform and application was comparatively less modern, it was smooth, had good performance and was easy to use. While the new app is modern and has a good UI, the UX is bad, performance horrible (slow), bill pay is even slower and half the functionality is missing. For eg there is no way to edit an already scheduled payment in bill pay, if you click the biller there is no payment button (go back and click pay)…. With new platform, I understand there are better integrations like Plaid available now but almost consistently every account error out after a couple of days and does not get updated. I have been a huge fan of DCU and I hope this feedback would help them improve this new platform soon.

It's like people who don't use mobile banking designed it

Instead of reinventing the wheel try looking at online banking apps that work well.

My biggest peeve from the last online app was that you couldn't see bank statements. In the new app you can finally see these statements but you cannot export them to your phone or print them. How useless is that??

When designing a mobile user experience don't take any input from folks over 60. That generation is useless when it comes to mobile presence. This includes any executive yayas that believe they understand how things should work. Can't be cutting edge with a butter knife.

Great update!!

I’m not sure why there are so many negative reviews, I think people just don’t like change and haven’t taken the time to see what’s available in the new app. We still have people pay, it’s just called Pay a Person. The new app format is so clean and organized. In the old app, you couldn’t view your statements, submit disputes, download any letters, or do password resets so I really love that I can do that from my app now instead of needing to log in through my computer for these simple things. Thanks DCU for improving your online systems!

Too many steps to transfer money

This new app took away some features and now it takes many more steps (and much more time) to transfer money between accounts. Put all the transfer money steps back on a single screen. Less clicks = more successful app.

ATM finder only finds DCU ones, of which there are none in Charlotte. It should show you the “sister” credit unions and ATMs that are not DCU brand and also, DCUDigitalBanking needs to automatically start at the users location.

Also, cannot save my password in DCUDigitalBanking anymore. iPhone 12, turned on keychain and it’s not prompting me to save credentials; it worked on the iPhone 13.

The new “Dashboard” is absolutely useless. When you log in, it should take you directly to the account balance screen. And there was no reason to spread out all the accounts. Squish them up again so you can see most of them on a single screen again.

The “Sign Out” button should be on the top of every tab, or at least the accounts tab and why is it a two-step process now? If I click sign out, it should just do it rather than prompting. Or if you want to prompt, make an option to turn that prompt off.

I might actually leave DCU over this app update

This update is truly awful, I’ve been a member of DCU since 2009 and while agree the older app wasn’t anything to go crazy about, at least it worked and did its job. The new dashboard is just awful, instead of working on a feature like “ FutureLook”, why didn’t you guys work on a quick balance replacement. Quick Balance was my fast was of quickly checking my balances and used it on a daily basis, now we have to log into DCUDigitalBanking for this. The website is also awful, just had to put it out there because you’re not escaping that one. I will leave this as 1 star until some changes happen, whoever designed this needs to get fired. Come on DCU, you can do better than this.

By

This app is a disservice to its users

DCUDigitalBanking takes a bit of time to load the log in screen. Then it takes a while to accept your pw or face id. Then it loads the front page which isn't your accounts. Your accounts (the reason you likely logged in was to check something in accounts) is on the second page, which then takes some time to load.

I also heavily relied on my old dcu app widget to give me updated and quick balances of my accounts and can no longer do that as of DCUDigitalBanking.

I haven’t found one positive aspect of this new app that I like yet and honestly may consider switching banks. I rely on being able to easily and efficiently access my account information and dcu DCUDigitalBanking is too slow and clunky.

By

What happened to the widgets?

The best part of the old app was the fact that I could check my balance without needing to login. That widget is gone. Everything else about DCUDigitalBanking is the same as the last one besides an interface update and the removal of quick balances. It seems like you wanted to replace quick balances with a better feature but couldn’t think of one so just took it out. I mean they were the most complained about aspect of the last app because it was hard getting them to work correctly in the first place. I don’t care about having dark mode I just want the convenient widgets back (:

By

Widget needs to come back

Very nice new sleek feel and look to everything on this new app, but the key thing missing in all this is the widget that allows you to keep an eye on your money in your account without having to login into your account everything single time to check out your balances which is really a pain!! So hopefully you guys are working on fixing that and bringing it back because it for sure made things a whole lot easier and simple.

By

What a step backward

DCUDigitalBanking made me change my login from using my account number. Because the new one requires at least one letter I the login, once changed, I cannot get back into the old app which is so much better!
Anyway, there appears to be no way to restore links to other DCU member accounts (i.e. my Mom, sisters, etc.) so I can no longer make easy quick transfers with them. The only way forward seems to be to add them like external accounts via “Plaid.” No thanks! Transfers then move through this third party and take days to complete!
Sad to say, this “new” poor digital experience looks like it will cause me to move my accounts to a different credit union after 11 years. :(

By

Security problem

When trying to log in, you cannot paste your password which is important to be able to do when using a password manager and when you have a long, complicated password. Also, everything you’ve typed so far disappears if you switch to a different app and then switch back. In other words, you must memorize your entire password and type it from memory all at once. To do this, you must have a simple, short password that is easy to memorize.

Preventing pasting is NOT a security feature.

By

BIG IMPROVEMENT!!!!

I had stopped using this credit union because of the lackluster digital experience and this is a massive improvement something they could add is widgets but I’m sure that will come later I really recommend giving this a shot what a big upgrade and finally keeping up with the big banks lot of bad reviews just are not used to it yet

By

FaceID login?

Isn’t the whole point of logging in with FaceID is after a session expires? After enabling FaceID login, a pop up appears saying session expired and then forces the user to re-type password (many times user ID is wiped even after remember userid is enabled). Fix the bug or please read Apple’s guidelines.

By

Cant Find Anything

Say what you want about the old app, but this one is undoubtedly worse. Why are my accounts out of order? Why do I have to go through so many pages to do one transfer between accounts? Why do I get an email every. single. time. i do a transfer? Why is the “Set A Goal” stuff literally in my face on every page? It’s annoying!!

The only good thing is that all the services (like account activity letter and direct deposit) is actually on the new app unlike before.

Still not a fan of this set up at all. The old one was good. Don’t fix what’s not broke and all that

By

Bring back the widget

The new app is great, albeit there is a learning curve for things that used to be simple in the old app. The layout is nice and some options are more obvious now.
That being said, the quick balances widget needs to come back,. I do not want to open and log into my banking app every time I need to make sure that I have money on my card before I make a purchase.

By

Much improved!!!

I am enjoying DCUDigitalBanking much more than the old one. I can nickname my accounts, link external accounts and do EVERYTHING in DCUDigitalBanking that I can do from my laptop.

Take the time to let DCUDigitalBanking set in and get used to before judging it unfairly. I expect they will only make more improvements from here.

By

Quick balances removed!?

I gave DCUDigitalBanking 4 because I really do enjoy the new interface, but I am sad that the quick balances have been removed. I loved being able to quickly check my balances without logging in. I hope they bring this feature back! Overall, love the new update!

By

Big improvement

DCUDigitalBanking is much cleaner and easier to use and is overall a great improvement from the old app.
One thing i wish it had was a widget for my home screen with quick balances. When that feature used to work it was very convenient.

By

Not impressed

The design is updated but the user experience is not great. All transactions not have “Electronic Withdrawal” at the beginning of the title so you have to click into each transaction to see what it is from. The page elements are large but the text is small, making you have to scroll down each time to see all accounts or options.

By

Big step forward!!!

DCUDigitalBanking is much better it has more features and is more modern lots of bad reviews just do not know how to use DCUDigitalBanking yet but man finally a credit union that keeps u o with technology

By

Doesn’t stay logged in

The new app UI is great, but it doesn’t stay automatically logged in so that I can just use FaceID to unlock like I could with the old one. Now I have to manually log in every time. Hopefully they fix this, as this is my only issue with DCUDigitalBanking

By

Bad app

I can’t copy and paste my user name or password from my password wallet. This new DCU app won’t allow pasting.

It made me create a new user name, when before I just logged in with my account number. Then wanted to confirm my device via text, phone, or email but the button to “send” the confirmation is greyed out and doesn’t work so I can’t actually confirm my device.

This is basic stuff to test before launching a new app product. C’mon.

By

Much needed UI update

This update is wonderful! Way cleaner dashboard and so much easier to navigate. Mobile banking was my one real gripe with DCU but DCUDigitalBanking is a lot more modernized now.

Writing this review for visibility and positive feedback for the dev team! Thank you.

By

Clean app but missing one thing…

I love the look and feel of DCUDigitalBanking but it’s missing one important feature. The widget! It was convenient to swipe to the side and see your balances. But now there is none. Would’ve been a perfect 5 stars but need that widget.

By

Awful

DCUDigitalBanking is simply awful, and I thought the old app was pretty bad. At least the previous app had some silver lining with the widget, and quick balances. This new app just stinks out loud. I’m truthfully thinking of switching banks, solely on the fact of how terrible it is. 2022 and this is DCUDigitalBanking you guys come up with?

To the developers who created this monstrosity, I would genuinely like to know what you were thinking. Legit trash.

By

External account setup is not working

I like the new interface but it messed up a lot many things. After adding the external account I’m unable to choose it in the loan payment section. Hope DCUDigitalBanking developers fix it ASAP.

By

Fantastic App!!!

This new app is much better than the old version. Very clean look and I think it’s a lot easier to use. It has some really cool new features too.

By

Old app is wayyy better

I like the old version app better. It was much easier to keep track of everything and make transfer. This one has a bunch of steps & everything all over the place. Why didn’t they just updated the old app with minor changes. I also don’t like how the new homepage app look. Please take that into consideration. Thank you
