A have a remote accountant and now she can’t log in. We have we have tried to sync it up so she can call me and put in the password it sends to my phone but that isn’t working either. She would need my email too? This is the most useless thing no one wanted. Still trying to figure out how to log her in remotely with no luck so far.
Why even give the option to turn this off? When you turn it off, the next time you log in, it just forces you to set it up again before you can do anything within the program?!
So as every other reviewer has mentioned, this is insane dumb to force MFA for users. It should be up to them if they want that extra blanket of security.
It is ridiculous to force multi-factor identification. It’s a bad look for me to be constantly checking my phone each time I’m trying to do my job. Also, heaven forbid I chose to leave my phone at home during the work day to remove distractions and increase productivity. This is now impossible thanks to your careless, flawed, and authoritarian implementation of MFA.
Let the costumer set the security level they’re comfortable with instead of dictating something that’s arduous to them. This forced feature is trash.
And don’t say it’s for my own protection. I don’t want this feature. Period.
The fact that I, as a customer, do not get to choose my own level of protection, is terrible. I can’t login until I use my phone?! My Mac is secure, passwords are secure, it’s super ridiculous.
Please disable this requirement. I do not want it!
Terrible implementation. I have never left a bad review for anything before but forcing users to download an external app for this sole function is terrible. Zero thought put into the impact this has on customers. Now searching for an alternative accounting software for my entire organization.
You can only get help by sending an email and it takes forever for a reply. I would not recommend this product. Unless, the customer service had a direct line to call.
Otherwise, Xero would be a great tool for your personal or business needs.
I understand requiring the two part authorization, but this set up app doesn’t work! I have put in my info all the ways and it keeps saying there’s a problem. Really not cool to require if it can’t be set up and you can’t access your accounting software, which is kind of important.
Agree with all others. Hassle. And I have to do MFA every time I log in even when I say it’s a trusted device! Over and over!
And to have to download an app to get authentication via phone is ridiculous. Not to mention the support is awful. Basically submit your issue and wait……and the get a response of “check out this link and figure it out yourself.” Pitiful.
Xero's response to other reviews is that it's been an option for 5-6 years is great. It should remain a choice, not forced. To log in and find that I have to come use XeroVerify / screw Xero for that.
And don't bother writing back to this review that it's for my protection. Who cares? It's my data. Let me do what I want with it particularly in the way that's convenient for me.
0 of 5 stars.
I was able to fill out my work hours on one device previously, remotely, on the road, or late at night in my bed. It worked well.
Now I require multiple devices just to add my hours for work. I must be at my computer, and you have taken away the freedom I had.
No one is hacking into my account to change my hours - my employer checks each timesheet and wound happily check with me if something looked weird.
You have added unnecessary security to something no one cares about. I can see from your reviews that I am not alone in my disgust.
Your responses keep saying “this review isn’t about XeroVerify ’s performance” - yes you’re right - none of us want to use your app to begin with.
This is literally the most worthless app ever. No one asked for XeroVerify so why go through the trouble of mandating it for your website.
I’m reading all the reviews and the developer responses and it’s clear that you’re not listening to your customer’s criticism. You just keep beating around the bush and answering questions that no one asked.
I’ve never seen any website that makes it mandatory to install an app on my phone in order to login. (Except for scam websites)
Dear Xero Developer,
2FA is a great option for those who choose to enable it. However, your implementation is the worst yet because:
1. It is not optional for Xero.
2. It requires an external app
3. Your response to others that it only takes a few extra steps and minutes is not acceptable, they are my minutes.
I will stay with Xero for another two weeks during which time I will be reviewing an alternative. Should you make 2FA optional or create an integrated solution before the 15 of September, I may stay. Otherwise we are parting ways after over 3 years of use.
I know I am but a small drip on your pool of revenue. I believe others will see my reviews on this and on the Xero platform with a clear explanation as to why I rate your products the way I did.
I agree with the earlier comments about the failure to add this feature to the other apps that you have. I understand how everyone doesn’t use the other apps but forcing those of us who do to add an additional app is laziness on your part.
I would have preferred to have seen a text message based system or better yet, the ability to forgo two factor authentication entirely. I’m more concerned about all these apps you are forcing on my phone than I am of my password being compromised.
Old Xero customer here but not much longer; sure, 2FA is nice but shouldn’t be a requirement to use their product. Highly disappointed and will not recommend Xero to others in the future.
It is the easiest 2 part verification I have used yet. Asks on a notification if I am signing in to Xero I hit the yes it is me button and I am right in. Easy to set up and easy to use with more security. What is the issue?
Reading through the comments of these whiny “adults” sniveling about XeroVerify makes me automatically give it 5 stars.
Thanks, Xero, for caring that my data stays safe enough to implement mfa.

Wonderful addition for security. Works flawlessly with my iPhone and iMac, super quick press and hold to confirm on a text notification. I really appreciate this next level of security!
I don’t understand why so many people are giving 1 star reviews. MFA should be a requirement for any login that gives access to sensitive (financial) information.
Easy to setup and use. To all of those whining about using multi-factor authentication… if you wanted to continue operating your business like a caveman, then why did you choose a cloud-based accounting platform? Anything you store online, and especially for your business operations, should be protected with MFA.
The way this verification connects with our Xero account is perfect. We can easily login or even switch devices whenever we want. Clicking directly on the notifications make logging on super fast, a real pleasure. It’s great to know that Xero supports their own software allowing for a fully in-house multi factor authentication app here. Great job!
I didn’t want to review this before I got a chance to use it for a few days. I understand why people are upset about having to always verify when logging in, but after using this for a while I personally never had an issue with it and XeroVerify is responsive and works very well. As a reseller, I liked the user interface of Xero more than QuickBooks online so this is a minor inconvenience. Annoyance yes, but does it work? Yes as well.
