Still terrible

I have been using Polestar for over a year with little if any improvements. Constantly struggles to sync data with my PS2 and is spotty at functioning as a key. Remote climate control was a feature I was excited about and one of the selling points of the car but it usually does not work or takes forever to sync data so I can remote start the a/c. Painful and very annoying. It’s been a good car but will likely not re-lease this brand because of software and phone app limitations.

Unreliable

Needs more features compared to other car apps and catch up to competition. Polestar is unreliable - it disconnects and you have to force close it all the time for features like remote climate control and unlock/lock features to work properly. My biggest issue driving the 1 star review is the digital key and it’s poor reliability in several situations when there’s no access to data coverage (i.e. when parked in an underground garage), often leaving you locked out of your car and having to Uber home to get the physical key. Force closing Polestar in these circumstances does not always work. The way other car manufacturers (BMW, Rivian) have done their digital key offering via Apple Wallet is by far the way to go and much more reliable, even Hyundai provides this on their new cars and it’s not a luxury car company like this app is trying to be. I hope they carve this feature out of Polestar and leave it for more basic stuff.

Journey Log

1. Apps is very laggy & required multiple refresh to retrieve the data. It used to be better.
2. Can we please have the distance with at least 1 decimal point (round up at whole number is not useful)?
3. Can we please have the map back(was there in previous version) which indicate the start & end location?
4. Apps not able to provide accurate location of the start and end location. Where is the Apps getting the GPS reading from?

Needs work to be more useful and dog mode

My biggest gripe is that the digital key is finicky at times. Sometimes it works flawlessly, other times it will let me unlock the car but not start it and tell me there’s no key nearby. Ultimately it doesn’t leave me with enough confidence to not carry the regular key because I’m afraid I’m going to be locked out of the car or stranded because the car won’t start.

The ability to schedule a charge is great, but it’d be nice to be able to set amp limits in addition to charge times. For example, during the hours of 9 am - 8 pm, max out at 24 amps, from 8 pm - 9 am, allow the full 48 amps.

Every time I open Polestar , it has to do an air quality test before it lets me do anything and says it’s not ready yet. So I have to wait anywhere from 10-20 seconds to use Polestar each time it’s opened.

Whether I’m connected to WiFi or cellular, the responses back from the car are painfully slow. I tell the climate to start, 20 seconds to get a response back that the climate started, unlock or lock the car, 10-20 seconds until I can leave Polestar because it takes so long to get a response back.

More options that frequently don’t work

This shouldn’t be *that* hard to debug but apparently it is! The old app had a hard time with Climate timers and the new one has shown zero improvement. I have several timers and they work about 10% of the time. When attempting to manually start the Climate it fails over half the time and takes a while to let me know. The Charging state is accurate and so is the estimated time to completion. It seems to have a hard time with location as well. I have only tried the charging timer once and it seemed to function.

Former Tesla Owner

Don’t mean to be hard but Polestar and actually all of the software development involved with this car is really elementary compared to Tesla. I wanted out of Tesla because I no longer wanted to be in Elon’s club. PLEASE can you at least prioritize fixing the key for us IPhone people. I have been using my IPhone as a key since 2020 so it’s hard to go back. I have a 2 and I like the car but the length of time to fix this key thing is ridiculous and it really reflects on the company as a whole considering how important the digital support of just about everything is.

Needs Features to Be More Functional

So far I have been using Polestar and it is quite nice to be honest, however it does miss a few basic but helpful features.

For example, notification when vehicle starts and mostly important STOPS charging for some reason. Also, a notification when vehicle is fully charged would be nice. In my case we use a common shared charger in my company, so people might start charging my car for me, or in case power gets disconnected or ceased, I wanted to know so I do not get to the car at the end of my day thinking the car is charged but it is not.

Receiving notifications like those about status and any changes on the charging would be great.

Another nice to have feature would be to be able to control the climate temperature we want to remotely set in the car. I do not want 70 degrees all the time.

So fun!

Going from an ICE to an EV is definitely a learning process and it’s nice to have an app that allows you to start up your car heat before you get into it, or unlock it from your phone. The process of setting up Polestar with my car and my phone took about 48 hours as we had to get the prior owner to release the vehicle VIN number to me.

There are definitely some quirks, like things you can do from your phone and what you cannot do from your phone, as well as the integration of the paired key and the phone that work in consistently. Also, the charging data does not work seamlessly with various charging stations and you have to take some actions in the charging stations own apps and other others within the this app app. It’s a completely intuitive integration. Some things in one place other things in a different place. But it’s a learning process all around and I assume that overtime these processes will become more clean.

Needs more functionality

It is nice to be able to pre cool or heat, check battery, and lock up. It would be great to be able to close windows as well as check other features from the car menus like tire pressure and error conditions.

Really enjoying the app, some update suggestions.

I’ve shears Polestar has greatly improved over the last year which is great to hear from people’s reviews. I’ve overall enjoyed my experience. My only suggestion would be if it could be possible to enable some of the features in Polestar to be able to add a tile or widget in the Lock Screen. That would be great to be able too I and unlock the car from the Lock Screen, or enable climate controls.

Thank you for a great app!

Simple QOL Suggestion

For users looking to quickly lock/unlock or activate climate control, it’s surprisingly annoying to have to wait for all tiles—typically air quality—to update. A simple caching feature for button presses would be super helpful and appreciated

Thanks for the dark icon

Thank you so much for the dark icon (wished you had went for a more dark grey color to match the native iOS icons)…but definitely an improvement 🙂 Polestar is now on my first app-page on my phone again. Looking forward to the next update. Keep up the good work!

Change Charge Limits in App

It would be great if you could modify the charge limits using Polestar . So that it would override the existing setting in the vehicle. Many times, you realize the previous charge limit, may not be accurate and want to update it through Polestar . Thanks.

Edit! Multiple attempts required for any action

The scheduled climate start and charging issues have been resolved. The latest version of Polestar is much clearer and functions very well, I noticed an improvement on the impromptu remote start function as well.

Why does the lock/unlock and climate on/off function take multiple tries each time before it kicks in? Similarly, I have often found that my climate and charging timers set in Polestar just won't stick. For example, when plugging in at night in the garage, I swapped a previous timer from 11:45-6:00 to 11:00-6:00. Two minutes later, I reopened the charging panel, and it's back to an 11:45 start. When I remotely try to start the climate when leaving the office, it regularly cannot sync with the vehicle and will take me as many as 4 or 5 clicks before turning on the temperature. I also have an active timer to start the climate in the morning for my commute with an 7:40 departure. I would say 3/5 days it functions as normal, but 40% of the time I'm sitting in a cold car.

Better and Better

Polestar started out with basic functionality like door lock/ unlock and pre heat. It’s gotten a design interface update with newer graphics, location, timed preconditioning and more.

Polestar Software is Excellent

With the software you can easily see if the doors are locked (if not you can lock them), you can turn on the climate system while it’s being charged so it will be less draining on the car. You can start the car without any keys. All of this is so easy to set up and run. Polstar gets an A+ for software design!

Polestar App

Easy to use. Has 4 remote function for remote charge, unlock, pre-heat/cool cabin (climate) and car location. The system randomly times out, and your remote unlock button on Polestar will not work. So have your key fob at all times.

Stable and keeps getting better

The UX, functionality, and new features are great. Keep innovating!

Polestar refresh puts more on the front page than before. I haven’t had any issues with Polestar —the problem is the spotty cell service with Verizon and our region.

Massive improvement

Glad Polestar finally got a total revamp! Super easy to check in on the car when it’s charging, with percent charged and ETA constantly updating…before it was a struggle to get Polestar to show data. Would be nice to include charge rate. Dark mode would be great too. Pipe dreams would be remote access to the cameras. Wouldn’t mind being able to just turn on the heated seats to warm them up instead of having to precondition the whole car.

Finally!

Polestar finally works reliably! There’s still a long way to go in added functionality, but at least the basic requirement is there.
