Infuriating

I have to echo similar reviews. I feel completely taken advantage of by this manipulative test. Unlike all other rapid COVID antigen tests I’ve used, this BD Veritor/Scanwell product requires the use of an app, ostensibly because I as an end user am not capable of interpreting test results. (Also, how illogical to start with the instructions to wash my hands with soap for 20 minutes and then be forced to interact with my phone during the entire bleeping test process. Phones are typically full of more bacteria than a toilet seat!) In any case, I’m disgusted by the UX which makes PII data elements mandatory …. Information collected is NOT required to fulfill the stated purpose of keeping a record of results, and for those of us who aren’t reporting to an employer through ScanwellHealth , almost all PII should be optional. I nearly exploded when ScanwellHealth “timed out” on my toddler’s test result in the 5 minute window when my other toddler was having a meltdown. Test results have a validity window, sure, but to have zero grace period or recourse to get even a conditional read of results within the 5-10 minutes past the optimal window, considering that you took my money and my PII, but didn’t even provide me the courtesy of a simple set of printed instructions? Completely insulting and deceptive. Managing COVID testing for the under 4 crowd is bad enough. Thanks, BD Veritor, for making it exponentially worse.

This app should be optional

The simple fact that I have to download an app and input my name and address is absurd. I want to do a covid test not have give out personal info also don’t agree that an email address should be necessary for me to perform a test. At best the entire process is hand hold for people who can’t follow directions. More probably it’s another company taking advantage of a health crisis to get data on their consumers. A simple piece of paper with examples of positive and negative tests and an option for a phone app probably would have made this a better review and experience.

After response from dev:
You should give people the choice to share medical information with an app. Why every company thinks THEY will keep data safe when time and time again we see it stolen from every large company in the world has to be motivated by money. It should not be a requirement, Companies shouldn’t get to decide what information I can or must save. There is no harm in providing paper instructions and there is no justification aside from cutting costs or forcing collection of data. I don’t care if you have an app just provide people an option. I will purchase other COVID tests from now on.

Can’t watch the video in advance

I watched the videos in advance to make sure that I would perform the test early. However, the timer for the test had already started and it wouldn’t let me restart the timer. I deleted to app to hopefully clear the issue, but when it identified the card that it needs to use to interpret results, I was prohibited from using that test. Now I purchased a test kit that was supposed to have two test and I have only one that I can use because ScanwellHealth forces you to perform the test in real time. This is either a massive mistake in designing an app (and for that matter, what do you need an app for this test? There are are lots of tests where you just have to read the instructions. It’s not rocket science…they just want to collect your personal information….shame on you BD) or a sneaky and shameful way for BD to make money during a time of demand for their product. This is price gouging during a time of worldwide crisis. These guys saw a sneaky way to make a few more bucks from people like me who like to read the instructions beforehand. I will say it many times. SHAME ON YOU.

Easy, empowering, efficient

As a frequent traveler with an irregular schedule, the Scanwell App has proved absolutely invaluable for me when dealing with UTI.

Since UTIs don’t give us the courtesy of advance notice, my regular doctor wasn’t available to see me when I tried to book an appointment last-minute. With ScanwellHealth, I was able to take control of my health without having to wait for someone else to make time for me.

Following ScanwellHealth ’s directions while using the testing kit was a breeze. A doctor reviewed my case, provided a diagnosis, and sent a prescription for treatment to my pharmacy of choice that same day.

Not only did I receive the necessary medicine, but the doctor providing feedback reached out to address my concerns about my symptoms and made sure to follow up with me.

It feels empowering to know I have this tool to use at my fingertips—even if I’m in another city or state. When it comes to healthcare, access is everything.

The well-designed user interface and easy-to-use testing kit are great on their own, but it’s the human component and actual care Scanwell’s treating physician displayed that built a personalized, trustworthy experience.

Intrusive and Time wasting

ScanwellHealth doesn’t let you skip the videos even after you definitely know how to use it. You will need to be by your phone and listen to this annoying lady time after time which is unnecessary and time wasting. Remember that annoying teacher that gave unnecessary instructions over and over again with no option other than to listen? Now you got a virtual one. If you have more than one member in your family that needs testing start with plenty of time as this will take a while. I am ok with the 15 minute wait but you can only do one person at a time unless you download ScanwellHealth on multiple phones and not even sure if it will let you use the same user and password. Good way of getting more downloads. It will also ask you for some personal information that is not needed only other than to gather data for the company benefit. Would suggest not to provide anything other than what is definitely required to bypass the intrusion.

Horrible Invasion of Privacy

Most at home tests show you the results right away and assume you are smart enough to read them. If you call the help line they will tell you there is no way to read the results without signing up for ScanwellHealth , which requires all of your personal info including birthday, phone number, email, race, address, even your preferred pronouns. Isn’t the benefit of an at home test to allow you privacy? The results show up as lines on the test, just like other rapid home tests, but they do not include a key to read them. It takes forever to download ScanwellHealth , sign up, watch the videos, take the test, and wait the required amount of time before ScanwellHealth will give you the reading (which is obvious to the naked eye, so why not allow us to read our own tests instantly)? Just another way for big brother to gather our personal information while holding results hostage unless you agree to tell them everything about yourself.

God-Awful, Dystopian Product, Should be Illegal

Regarding the at home COVID-19 Tests:

I have never in my life encountered such an anti-consumer, evil product in all all my years on God’s green Earth. There is no reason why I should have to input pages upon pages of person information to view my Covid test result. Even worse, you literally have to keep ScanwellHealth open for the entire 20 minute testing process and if you happen to close ScanwellHealth you will just have to go on about your day never knowing if you have Covid or not. This company could fix this by simply putting a guide on the product for the customer to read, telling them whether or not the test is positive. Instead, the company chooses to force the user to go through their inconvenient, slow, and pointless app to even see the see the result of the test. I would rather get Covid and die than support this company by buying another Covid test from them. If I could rate ScanwellHealth 0 stars I would, but 1 will have to do.

Waste of your Time

The fact this kit doesn’t include paper directions and forces you to use their app demonstrates is also designed to data mine your personal information. How does your race, address, and email help the test? As other reviews mention, you spend half the time forced to watch videos teaching you how to adjust your lights and play with your camera phone (which is apparently appealing to millennials) but a complete waste of time. I am perfectly comfortable using a smart phone but there should be some kind of warning on this test for elderly or non-tech people. Other competing COVID tests have a simple one line or two line strip result and you don’t need your smart phone to “interpret” it. After setting up and account, using ScanwellHealth, watching their mindless videos, and waiting 20 minutes for results I pretty much wanted to take the test swab and shove it up into my brain. Do yourself a favor and get a simple test from someone else.

Helpful, but…

The instructions are somewhat helpful, but way too long and unnecessary if you are giving regular tests to your child (like me). I’m a pro at these tests now, but ScanwellHealth makes me watch all their videos every time. The worst is the extremely long video about offering your child a teddy bear or tablet or cookies or restraining them if you need to. OMG, I’m their parent, I can handle it, and why can’t I skip these after I’ve seen them once? End result, I’ll use the test materials from now on, but will not use ScanwellHealth or scanning features due to the frustration and inconvenience. I would think that this defeats their goals if collecting test data, but I’m not going to scan if I have to go through this long process every single time as I’ve got enough stress and responsibilities already, so hopefully the feedback is helpful to this company.

Likely a good test, poor implementation of app

This is a review mainly on the at home COVID-19 test. It is a decent idea to integrate an app that will allow for ease of use and interpretation, but as others have pointed out, places a huge barrier in testing. Not only do people have to view the videos each time you test (which potentially adds time and stress to the process), there does not appear to be an option for those who may not be native English speakers or those who may struggle with some of the scanning steps. This defeats the main utility of a quick, easy, and accessible test for people to stay safe, informed, and protect their communities. This can be a good product, but please improve this process, including removing the video requirements for those who have already viewed it, provide more transparent personal data collection information, provide more languages on ScanwellHealth , and include a result interpretation option without the use of ScanwellHealth /scanning.

Not user friendly

This test is so frustrating! Before I started it made me sign up fir an online account, which I was not happy about. Then, there are NO written instructions in the box! The whole thing is done by video on your phone in ScanwellHealth . I don’t need any new apps on my phone! It gives unnecessary information and instructions. Watching the video took way too long and was not helpful information. Then the results started to show up immediately after the test, but there is no guide to tell you what is positive or negative. You have to wait the full 15 minutes to see the results. When the test started showing it came up with 2 pink lines. Every other at home test I’ve taken, 2 pink lines means a positive test! So I’m freaking out, but still have to wait the full 15 minutes for any answer! And after all that, the results were negative! All this frustrations and headaches for nothing!

Life-changing!

These kits are amazing! I get UTIs about 3 times/year and usually have to go to urgent care in a last minute panic and spend $200+ for urine testing and antibiotics. With Scanwell, everything is 10x simpler. I can confirm what I already know from my symptoms in the comfort of my own home, and then pay a quarter of what I usually pay to get the antibiotics I need. I had my diagnosis within a couple of hours and my prescription was ready for pickup almost immediately. And the doctors who consult through ScanwellHealth follow up a couple days later to see if your symptoms have improved! What more could you want? I hope more people hear about Scanwell soon because it is a no-hassle game changer in the stressful, uncomfortable world of UTIs.

Not user friendly

The instructions for the Covid testing do not allow you to go back at once you get to a certain point. I had moved onto this part before a piece of info in the last video had registered, and I needed to go back to get what I missed but couldn’t. I then had to wait 25 minutes(a 15 minute timer starts at the end of all of the videos, followed by another 5 minute timer) to let everything cycle back through and almost expired my test because of this. It does not account for errors in this test, so pay attention. What I really didn’t like, is even after it had already cycled through all the videos with the first test, it didn’t recognize that all the videos had been watched and still makes you go through the same videos without just having an option to scan your results.

Would not have purchased this covid test

If I had known that completing this test would require downloading an app, entering in personal information and watching videos that cannot be skipped, I would never have purchased this covid test. I appreciate the effort put into designing all this, but I felt irritated that there wasn’t a more transparent option. Why wasn’t there the option to just read the instructions and interpret the results without an app? I’m not commenting on the functionality of ScanwellHealth , that was fine. Good design, actually. But opening the package and finding out that I would have to do it all on my phone was a disappointment. Could it be made more clear on the package that it is REQUIRED to do all that to get the results? I knew I couldn’t return the test after opening it, so I felt pressured to just do it. There is very small print saying that the health app is required.

The Easiest Thing EVER

ScanwellHealth is AMAZING.

You can get 3 UTI tests for $15, and either pay for expedited shipping for use free shipping. I used free shipping and still got them within 3-4 days.

I already had a UTI when I downloaded ScanwellHealth, so once I got the tests in the mail, I read the instructions and watched the in app video a few times to make sure I got everything right because (again) I wanted to get my UTI resolved ASAP.

ScanwellHealth told me when to open the package, when to pee on the test strip, handled time tracking, and told me when the test strip was ready. Through ScanwellHealth , I took a picture of my test strip, which it read immediately, then I filled out my information and provided photo ID, answered some questions about my symptoms, and within 2 hours I got a call from a doctor who reviewed everything with me, and sent my prescription to my local pharmacy, where I was able to pick it up within 20 minutes.

The whole process took less than 2 hours!

I’m literally in awe. ScanwellHealth changes everything, and it was SO easy! I’d recommend this to everyone!

Actually a scam

I purchased and received my scanwell test strips and tested positive for a UTI. The next step was to submit your results to an outside provider that they connect you to for an additional $25. However, the connection between Scanwell and the outside provider (Lemonaid, another app available on ScanwellHealth store) wasn’t functioning properly. So I just downloaded the Lemonaid app and went through the process and got my prescription WITHOUT any reference to Scanwell.

Also, when I chatted with Scanwell support about the issue, they said “we used to charge $25 for an exam through our app but now we use outside providers” and this extra fee is something they never mention in the process.

AND when I looked on the site and ScanwellHealth for a refund policy it just says “the refund policy is on our website” but i looked everywhere and it’s not. So I asked support for a link to the refund policy and they completely ignored my request.

All of these positive reviews fail to mention that you have to pay an additional $25 for an exam and that you don’t actually need the Scanwell test to do so. Do yourself a favor and get a way less expensive box of UTI test strips from your local pharmacy and download Lemonaid and get your prescription through there. Paying Scanwell $15 for their three tests is COMPLETELY unnecessary and frankly a scam.

Test needs written instructions

This is my third time using a COVID test and first time using this type. If you have no idea what you’re doing the videos are probably useful and comforting. If you know what to do the fact that you have to watch all the videos, sign up for an app and wait the full 15 minutes for results that show up in 2 minutes is annoying as crap. The test doesn’t provide any written instructions for testing or interpreting results. Everything works through ScanwellHealth only.

By

Unnecessarily Intrusive

I used ScanwellHealth to test my 7yr old child for COVID. ScanwellHealth itself is easy to use and well-developed. I appreciated the video guidance and found it clear and helpful, and I appreciated the clarity of the interpreted result.

HOWEVER, I take issue with several things and, had I read the reviews and understood this in advance, I would not have used this test:
- I should not be REQUIRED to download an app for assistance administering the test and interpreting results; this should be optional
- If I choose to download ScanwellHealth , I should not be REQUIRED to create an account, ESPECIALLY if the primary benefit to me is simply retaining test history; I don’t need ScanwellHealth to manage this for me and do not want an account
- If I choose to create an account, my full legal name, gender, birthdate, phone number, and address should not be REQUIRED if they are not needed in order to interpret test results; I can understand age and maybe gender, but not the rest
- I should not be REQUIRED to enter this same personal information for my YOUNG CHILD; this is ridiculously inappropriate

Honestly, that final point was the last straw. Going forward, I will be avoiding ScanwellHealth and Scanwell if at all possible.

Also, I see no good reason for ScanwellHealth to be rated 17+. That’s dumb.

Breach of Privacy

Do yourself a favor and do not use this service, go to a licensed doctor and wait the extra day for results. BDs COVID test was the only at home test I could get, but I will never use their service again. You cannot view your results unless you give BD your information and scan your test (Spoiler, you don’t need to scan it, three lines mean positive, two pink lines = control).
This would be fine, except in order to view these results, you accept the terms and conditions, meaning that scanwell and BD now hold your test results and can use them as they wish to with personal identification. Do not use this service. Do not freely give away your info because they ask you to. Their test works regardless of using your smartphone to scan it, they just want to catalog your results for their personal benefit

By

Horrible, intrusive, and time-wasting

This is specifically in regards to the COVID-19 testing aspect.

The fact that you have to download an app, agree to a privacy policy, input personal information, then do a time-locked test is ridiculous. And almost patronizing; they suggest interpreting lines against a guide is difficult for people with typical vision.

In addition, the fact that it just so happens that in the phone app version the control indicator is two lines rather than the typical one (yes—even on some of BD Veritor’s other COVID-19 testing kits that solely check for the antigen). This is intentionally misleading; if an individual without ScanwellHealth took the test and are negative, it forces them to download and input their information and double check the results. And even if the extra lines have special undocumented significance, it still doesn’t mean we cannot interpret the results with a diagram regardless. At LEAST make it so ScanwellHealth is an *option* to use for those who have trouble understanding reading a test.

These issues are not some coincidences. The audacity is insane. This seems to be a trend with this company’s products however—forcing unnecessary accessories and add ons to collect data and charge extra money.

Easy to Use!

I haven’t had a UTI in years but knew the symptoms and that I had one. I tried to contact my Kaiser doctor but it was the weekend and it was taking too long for them to reply (over 48 hours) and needed immediate relief. I also didn’t want to go to urgent care because of the current shelter in place orders due to Covid-19. Fortunately I found Scanwell and was able to get a script sent to the pharmacy fast! ScanwellHealth and kit was easy to use. Lifesaver! Highly recommend!

By

Great to have on hand!

Although I know what a UTI feels like, having these on hand to KNOW for sure has been incredibly helpful.

I’ve used Scanwell twice. The first time, my results were negative, and I was happy to not have to take antibiotics (I try to only take them when I really, really need them).

The second time, the test was positive, and I used the doctor service in ScanwellHealth to receive a prescription. My test was reviewed by the doc and antibiotics were ready for me to pick up at my pharmacy within a few hours.

If you want to save time (not having to schlep to the doctor’s office) and money, get these!

Stolen Money, Fake Reviews and Broken Promises

All of the 5-stars reviews are eerily thorough and well-written, and I discovered today that they are all fake and written by reviewers affiliated with the company.

With a painful uti and no insurance, I hoped Scanwell was the answer to my prayers. Unfortunately ScanwellHealth should be called SCAMwell as they took my money for the test and overnight shipping, only for me to find out the order was cancelled and I ended up having to go to Urgent Care for a $200 bill after all. This, of course, after suffering for a UTI for three days and missing two and a half days of work.

By

Saves SOO Much Time

Scanwell is a life saver! They sent me a free test kits which I used with their easy to use app. The doctor called my pharmacy & sent the script over within an hour of taking the test! I purchased many more tests & trust me when I tell you ScanwellHealth saves me time & money! It’s amazing!

By

Insanely efficient

Literally had to pull over into a McDonalds. Luckily had Scanwell in my backpack. Used in the public bathroom. In crazy pain and serious discomfort. Had to know for sure. Strip turned bright purple. App confirmed my UTI. On my way to CVS now to pick up my prescription. Thank you for saving me.

By

Amazingly simple

I get frequent UTIs and scan well is a much more convenient and affordable way to treat them. After I took the test and submitted my results, my prescription was ready to be picked up within a couple hours!

By

Took only 15 minutes

I peed on the strip and the results said I had a UTI. I then went through the doctor section and 15 minutes later I got a notification saying my prescription was ready. This was a lifesaver

By

Really helpful but really Glitchy

I love the service that this provides but it drives me crazy. I have to resent my password every time I proceed to the next step with ScanwellHealth because it doesn’t recognize e password. Even when I know it’s correct because it just made me change it. So t gets me the care I need but it makes me work for it.

By

Age Restrictions

Test strips showed I had a possible UTI but they won’t process your order if you’re over 49 years old. Would’ve been nice to know that before I spent money on the test kits.

Extremely complicated. Why do I have to download an app? what if I don't have a compatible smart phone? VERY unfriendly. Difficult to understand, difficult to do it. Why do I have to enter all my information? I just want to know if I am positive or negative. Do not recommend it. There are more several brands easier to use and more friendly.
