Maybe accountants like it but for consumers it is absolute garbage. Nearly impossible to load docs and photos from your phone. It is so bad you can’t simply upload an image - you have to either take a photo or upload a pdf - the other file formats make no sense. Also, you cannot share users so if you have a spouse filing jointly - only one primary user can upload docs which is super inconvenient. I seriously want to fire our accountant just for making us use this trash.
This has never simplified the process of doing taxes. Can’t say enough about the difficulties I’ve had. So many questions; some that don’t apply. Can’t this be simplified and improved? My taxes have been completed, and the results are that I owe both federal and state income taxes. Where are the vouchers to be submitted? TaxCaddy seems great to those who use it to gather information. Try looking from the individual filing taxes, and understand that it’s not all that it’s cracked up to be.
We were happy with Tax Caddy until two of three fillable forms turned white and not blue. These forms will not allow us to add more data. Could not find issue under search or on internet. Submitted a ticket for the problem. This happened on both Dell laptop and on ipad app. We did not use simultaneously. Why would a form that was not yet uploaded not allow additional data entries?
My introduction to this app was to fill out an on-line questionnaire on changes in the past year. Retirement. Should be easy. 62 questions, but many of them involve technical legal retirement program terms. Part way through, I wanted to save partial completion to check something (I could as easily have wanted to pause for dinner and complete it later); but there was no apparent way to partially save (and you cannot leave any question unanswered). TaxCaddy was locked in the questionnaire until completion. Couple that apparent flaw with the statement at the end of it that once you “submit” your answers you can never change them. What if I made a mistake (or got new information) and wanted to revise an answer? Too bad, your error will be forever reflected in your tax return? Next, one of the “Questions” was a directive that if you have not already linked your bank account to TaxCaddy, insert your account information here (or better yet upload a photo of a check). That’s an audacious assumption that I’d want to link my bank account to TaxCaddy, especially at this awkward introductory part of getting used to TaxCaddy . What additional irritating things await? If I wanted a do-it-yourself tax return, I’d buy TurboTax. I don’t like this.
I do not like TaxCaddy and was much happier filling out an excel file with my totals for personal and business totals.
So much trouble scanning docs with my phone and categorizing them. Also filling out forms in the phone like texting and forms not saving or not sending so I have to redo an entire rental property worksheet several times. It shouldn’t be this difficult.
I tried using my computer and my iPad to fill out the documents and to take pictures of the documents requested. It was very hard to use the camera on the iPad and it wouldn’t accept the photos on my computer.
Once I switched to using my phone it was much easier. I find TaxCaddy difficult to use because I forget year to year how to work it. It was very stressful. I’m hoping I got all my documents in correctly. The font size is so small it was hard to see what documents are being requested
I would not say TaxCaddy is easy to use
The phone app does not show any message conversations that were sent on the computer. When you send a message it doesn’t tell you who it is going to. When you upload a document on TaxCaddy can’t rename it because the keyboard never goes away so you can’t click continue. Just doesn’t seem like it’s fully developed and thought out. If I upload a document that isn’t assigned my tax company can’t see it. What’s the point in giving them extra documents if they can’t even see them??
First, it’s difficult to take pictures of documents, it often cuts them off or can’t find the page and the it cuts it off again if I use the manual button. Second, it tends to freeze up & gives the little spinner for a long time after uploading a doc, so we have to wait for it to time out and log in again…too frustrating—I would have had my stuff to my accountant 2 weeks ago, except I thought I’d try this out.
I first used TaxCaddy last year. The learning curve was not too steep and I quickly got my information uploaded for me tax preparer with only little back a forth.
But this year it’s been a bit of a different picture. I made sure that the default tax year was set to the current tax year, but the program does not consistently use the default year. So data and messages kept get accidentally logged to 2022 instead of the default 2023. Leave me and my tax preparer to find and move uploaded files and looking in 2022 and 2023 for messages.
The second issue is it’s difficult to upload a file in to the correct category, to many steps.
The third issue, I could not get the smart link feature to work. In years past I’ve used a similar feature in TurboTax and got data from Wells Fargo and Vanguard. But could not get this app to talk to Wells Fargo so I gave up and manually updated those tax forms.
Taxes preparation is stressful enough I DO NOT need an app adding to the stress.
One big request, make the default tax year global so if you set it once it stays set to that year for all functions unless the user explicitly wants it to go to a different year.
Quite a powerful app in many ways, but amazingly annoying this year because Wells Fargo smart link feature seems to fail and need reset almost daily in order to stay active for automatic upload of tax information from my financial institution.
Whether this is a WellsFargo or a this app problem, this bug detracts significantly from TaxCaddy experience.
Our CPA moved to this and set us up as clients. The software is very easy to understand and intuitive so most will adapt to it quite easily.
What is slightly cumbersome is document management. Having document archival is great but I would like to see it enhanced to allow batch document uploads rather than one at a time which becomes tedious.
My CPA moved this year to using TaxCaddy, so I just downloaded it. I find the writing on the home page nd the headers too small, difficult to see. I tried the Colorblind mode, but that does just eliminate colors, does not enhance the lettering. For those of us iin the older age group, with weaker eyesight, that’s a detriment. It would also help if you use black letters instead of gray.
Navigation and having a clear understanding of requirements is not friendly. Taking a photo of a document was to say the least a challenge.
I downloaded TaxCaddy on my phone per the request of the CPA. I LOVE that I can review and sign documents right from my phone.
Having the phone app makes it easy and convenient to communicate with my CPA.
But as well, I can connect to my banks and have my statements automatically uploaded to this app and ready for my CPA for next years taxes. I can also upload documents throughout the course of the year instead of waiting until Dec/Jan to provide all the paperwork to my CPA.
Keep it up, this app team! I can’t wait to see what you got cooking for future enhancements!
This is my first year using the Tax Caddy app and it’s innovation at it’s finest for the tax industry! I’ve worked in tax and can appreciate the time saved by avoiding paperwork and having to coordinate, scan and save tax documents. Coordination of tax documents is streamlined, which brings so much value to the practice. I must say, I believe that TaxCaddy is geared more toward the more modern day app-savvy customer in that you can take pictures or upload your tax documents easily, and having a pre-set document checklist better simplified the process. A general questionnaire, which is part of the normal industry practice, can fill in any holes one would believe would be caused by a program so slick. Plus, there is a feature that allows you to communicate with your tax preparer at any time during the preparation time of your tax return! The face-to-face aspect of interaction is not present, but with having an extremely busy lifestyle, with a million things on my plate, I can really appreciate that I can come and go into TaxCaddy as I have time, and can deliver my documents without having to drive to the CPA firm or to the post office, on my time. One thing that I would like to see different is to have more notification from TaxCaddy to get myself wrapped up with everything more quickly. Overall, TaxCaddy is awesome and would recommend!!
I am new to TaxCaddy. I have found it and the communications link to my tax preparation service to be outstanding. The tax form requests and uploads are easily organized and easy to perform. Communications with my contacts have been efficient, and linkages into my accounts to directly download forms makes TaxCaddy very convenient.
I highly recommend TaxCaddy. this app is extremely user friendly and made filing taxes a breeze. TaxCaddy has a sleek design and is laid out simply enough so every feature is easily accessible. Uploading documents with the camera feature is so easy, it would make my not so tech-savvy grandma look like a computer wizard! All in all, great product that turns this daunting task of filing taxes into a super simple process. 5 STARS!
SmartLinks saved me hours of time and tons of stress. The format, labeling and fonts and colors make already intuitive process something to truly appreciate. The Support Chat Agent I needed answered immediately and was sincerely invested in my experience. After all these years of dreading gathering documents for my spectacular account and feeling like I did a lousy job for him and for myself, I feel confident of my submissions! I know I am serving the process well and I also actually enjoy the mechanics of the uploads.
This is the first time I have ever used a tax preparation software. I usually keep all my paper documents in a drawer somewhere and drop them off at my CPA's office in an envelope. It has just been more simple FOR ME, not having to learn anything new. But Tax Caddy is so so much easier than the previous software my Tax office used because I can upload all my files digitally right from my iPhone. There are no problems with converting/scanning/compressing files. Everything stays organized in a folder right from iCloud (for me) and in a neat, categorized log for my CPA. No trips to the office! This is the best! I would give 10+ stars
this app is great. It allows you to communicate and provide documents in a quick and easy way. It’s my first time using it, and I like it. I just took photos of documents and uploaded them. It’s very easy. My accountant received everything.
