You’ll Lose Access to Your Money

I’ve been using this app for a year now and mostly love the service. However, I’m currently locked out of bunq and haven’t heard from customer support in 3 days. Every now and then, the this app app will force a complete log out and use SMS authentication to allow you back into bunq . For me, that SMS never delivers. The problem is, besides their email channel, all customer support flows through the logged in state of bunq . Even the “SOS” phone number that was introduced just takes a recording of your issue, and says that you will receive a response in bunq . While I was able to get help within a few hours the first time around, I’ve not been locked out of my account for 3 days with no response from customer support. I’m very lucky that I paid my rent the day before this happened.

In short, if something goes wrong and you are unable to log in, there is no channel that will quickly put you in touch with a human being to talk to. I’ve also heard that this app has a very toxic work environment, so I wouldn’t be surprised if their customer support team is short staffed anyway.

New Interface is not working.

What happened guys? The new interface doesn’t make sense at all. All my useful information is hidden, now you have a “plus” button that does completely different things depending on where you are and now I feel like I’m inside a constant advertisement of the platform instead of checking my accounts. I would love to have the functionality of the previous interface back.

I don’t think I’ve ever been compelled to write a negative review before, but this just might be the worst UI/UX I’ve ever seen.

Unlike many of the other recent (negative) reviews, I can’t compare it with previous versions of bunq . I was simply trying to be a new customer and sign up for an account with one of the new generation of mobile banks. But instead of even a passably professional banking experience, what I found was a bizarre gamification app focusing on tree planting and “trophies” and asking for access to my contacts (!). If I hadn’t known it was (supposed to be) a banking app, I’d have thought I’d accidentally downloaded a new game from Apple Arcade. All of which made it nearly impossible to find or identify how to do the basic functions (which was banking, in case we forgot).

Ultimately, after heroically wading through all the fluff, I couldn’t even figure out if I signed up correctly. Do I have a this app account now? Do I not? Who can tell? In the end, it doesn’t matter because I’m certainly not trusting my money to this thing and am deleting bunq .

Think someone stole your identity? Look forward to waiting two days to get a response, then getting a bunch of snippy, dismissive responses.

I tried to open a this app account, but it turned out, someone already had (?!) so it would only let me try to recover the existing account. My own phone number and email didn’t work, but my abuser’s did (!!) so I let them know my identity was stolen.

You can only email them. They don’t have a phone. It takes 48 hours for a response, even for something like this. Two days never felt so long.

The first person didn’t seem to understand what I was saying but eventually I got passed to the snark department, where I was assured that there’s no problem here: the account recovery form checks if the information matches any account, not your account. Wait, what?

I explained that this is an information leak. I can’t send them a list of email addresses and phone numbers and have them tell me which ones match account holders, so I shouldn’t be able to get that same information from the account recovery page.

They didn’t seem to see the problem. After increasingly frustrated back and forth, they told me they’d forward my “feedback” to the appropriate parties. Yeah, thanks.

I think my money will be safer elsewhere.

Essential banking functions buried

This used to be an amazing app with the best usability I’ve ever seen. With this release, the core features (like your account list and balances) are hidden behind meaningless gamification. The daily joy of using a beautifully designed tool is gone in this version. Also there are a lot of bugs, mysterious billing errors, and dishonest messaging. Now is not the time to open a this app account. Hopefully they reconsider in future versions.

Possibly the worst release I’ve ever seen

This is a full meltdown. Random charges with no warning or explanation appear disappear and the reappear. Accounts are being frozen. (Yes, they have people’s money and won’t release it. )Not to mention how incredibly difficult it would be to navigate even if it functioned properly.

Apple should seriously consider pulling it from the store. A visit to their customer feedback forum shows the nightmare. Hundreds of past from bug reports to bad UI complaints with no response from an obviously overwhelmed CS team. This is a bank app. What do you think the security looks like if the front end is such a disaster. I’m sure hackers are running amok. I’ve no idea when I’ll see my money.

I genuinely have never seen anything like this.

Suddenly changing withdrawal limits?

This bank decided to change their ATM withdrawal maximum from €500 per day per card to €250 per day per account, and then announce it through a buried quip on a Friday.

This isn’t it, guys. Your customers on your forums are extremely unhappy and so am I. Be honest and forthcoming in your communications and allow flexibility during and after a pandemic. I’m opening another account with a different bank. Sorry to vote with my wallet.

Awful, tiny interface - arrogant assumptions

First - bunq itself is awful and unlearnable. Completely unintuitive with no alternative desktop. I don’t want to do complex bank transactions on a tiny screen - but with this app there’s no other supported option. Even for a business account. ☹️

Then there are just plain stupid “features”. Like taking up screen space to show you a map of where your payment went? Really? That is vital? Or how about their “banking is social” idea? Um. No. Banking is private and for good reason.

They are an expensive option on top of all this. Will move away from this bank in near future - as soon as it’s possible under current conditions of COVID-19.

It used to be my favorite bank

this app is a bank I used to love. However, I think they received too much love and praise from their customers. They changed from a fun and open startup bank into an arrogant platform that completely lost its purpose. From a bank, I expect a service that helps me manage my money. However, the new this app mainly wants to up sell and show how narcissistic they are by featuring their Instagram feed as prominently as my actual expenses.

Stuck in a loop

Trying to open a new account and keep being sent in a fruitless loop. I login, select the account type, type in my info, get taken back to the login page and then the process starts all over again. Super frustrating. I tried calling customer support only to be told someone will be in touch through bunq , which I can’t access because of this hopeless loop I’m stuck in. Reached out to customer support via email yesterday and still haven’t heard back. Have heard good things about this app but so far I am not at all impressed.

Worst set-up process

After a week I still do not have an account. I have provided the information requested but the chat bot or customer service rep keeps saying they can’t open it, send in another format. Then it said to email my info, the response to sending my personal info was they don’t know what this is reference to. So now my personal info is just floating around at their company. I’m done with this process. Too much aggravation to pay them for a bank account. And now that I read the reviews it sounds like constant spam and upsell.

Worst app experience

I have truly never used an app that gets me stuck in more loops I cannot get out of than bunq. I put my password in and it brings me nowhere. Do it again and again. Tried to transfer money into this account but I cannot access. Also cannot transfer money from my business account to personal within this app?!? impossible to connect with support for another endless and painful loop experience. I love what the you are trying to do but the tech itself is awful. get a usable platform!! Infuriated.

Sorry - I don’t trust it

I have zero confidence in the competency of an app that:
1. hangs before completing the identity check despite multiple attempts and multiple messages to customer services
2. won’t let me log out and instead returns me to the page that informs me the identity check didn’t complete and can I please try again

What’s going to happen in bunq when I’m trying to access my money if it can’t even complete a core function that inhibits growth to its user base?!

Terrible update

this app used to be the clearest way I could be in charge of my finances, clearly see my money and I couldn’t stop talking about how great it was to all my friends. Then came the V3 (or 14.0.0) update and everything I raved about and loved about this app is gone. I can’t find my finances anywhere, my accounts are clouded by tribes and causes and trees that frankly have nothing to do with how I bank. I don’t need an Instagram feed of all the up-sells this app wants me to buy, and the once amazing customisations I could make on my account to help me stay organised are gone. It is clear this app is now only looking to make a profit and doesn’t care about its core customer base who used to love the clean, easy to use this app app. Now it takes me 5 steps to change which account is linked to which card, to find the accounts I’m looking for, getting support and even just navigating my profile. There wasn’t even a tutorial about where everything has moved. Really thinking about leaving this app and spending my money on banking elsewhere. Please bring back the previous app. If I could give 0 stars, I would. To new users— stay away.

I was forced to pay for planting trees

As a payment app it's good. If you do want me to pay for account creation fee, no problem at all. But forcing me into the Easy Green plan without letting me know(so from the support basically I get that I need to figure out and change the plan from somewhere by myself). I fully support planting more trees for the planet. But definitely not through this way ☹️(I hate being forced)

Great app with annoying downside

The quality of the this app app is worth the premium price tag (rather high when you share an account), but it really needs to stop defaulting to the most recently created account when you pay. I shouldn’t need to change out of my travel or home savings account every time I pay.

Unusable

This update made bunq bad. You removed all the usability features the previous version had and replaced them with a confusing interface and hidden options. Now I have to read more and click more in order to do the same I did before (If it is not broken). Bring back the previous version.

Incredible - best bank by far

this app delivers exactly what I would wish from a modern bank: bunq is is frictionless to use, but offers all kinds of power features when you need them. And I love how you can change things instantly in bunq , for which other banks require you to call them or come to their office. Just one example of this app awesomeness: I can send cheap international transfers with Wise, directly through bunq . Wow.

Forecast spending not working at all

Forecasting is still useless and not working but App improved usability with latest version and looks like bugs are getting addressed better and faster with more responsive help desk.

The feature advertised lately about the forecasting of your expenditures does not work at all.

The graph does not account any planned payment or any recurring charge or even the periodic wage income.

I had been using this app for more than a year and this feature never worked. Not even close to reality.

Incredible this feature is advertised as a top one. It just does not work.

Open several tickets and together articles but still nothing. How difficult can it be if even ING got it working pretty nicely since years?

Great service great people

I have multiple bank accounts at different banks, and to be honest, those bank accounts and services normally do just fine. I’ve never paid much attention on them.

Recently I urgently needed a proof of funds document from a bank. I went to nearby branches of some major banks that I have accounts at, and to my surprise, many reps at the banks refused to help and turned me away without even trying.

On the contrary, although the custom service at this app was reached by chatting, a rep called Isra understood how important this document is to me and submitted a request to her colleagues, and kept me updated about the process.

To be fair, she could turn me away as others did because it is easy, but she chose to help me out. The great service from good companies come from great and kind-hearted people.

Thanks for the help to all the people at this app who helped in my case, although I do not know your names. Please keep up the good work. You are making a difference here.

Don’t waste your time

My company has been denied an account. The reason given was that real estate investment as an income stream does not fit the risk profile of this app. My company is a software business and has zero funds allocated to real estate although it has the legal mandate to do so, it does not and is not currently. The personnel in charge of the account opening risk assessment are either inexperienced or incompetent. We will stick with the big banks. Don’t waste your time

They list it no where online or in bunq Store but will let u sign up with a USA number and input a USA address then say they only are doing Europe accounts. Then why are you guys even listed in the US market? Absolutely ridiculous and a waste of time and now they have my personal information. DO NOT SIGN UP!

Worthless scam

Hand recognition security is awful
