Rip off!

Even an old book can still be used without having to by new pages. TabersMedicalDictionary expires with no warning and when you move to a new phone TabersMedicalDictionary is then inaccessible. But for another large fee you can rent it again until then next time. What a rip-off!! I thought I bought the non-expiring book the 1st time. Not pleased. Too expensive the 1st time. Way too expensive the 2nd time, especially for something you can’t even physically touch or pass on to those that follow, children, students, medical library. The review stays the same. If it would allow less than one star I would change it. The only permanent thing about this book is this review, at least until you erase it or hide it.

An essential tool.

Of course, we can always look something up on the web, but Taber’s provides clinically relevant, unbiased information easily and quickly available that I use often in my practice as a family nurse practitioner.

Taber’s medical dictionary is the best!

I’m a student of veterinary technology. Taber’s medical dictionary is user friendly because Navi-menu is simple and well organized. There are lot of illustrations and pictures. Every word starts with pronouncing sounds player with clear American pronounce. It absolutely worth the money in my opinion:)

Medical Knowledge

My mother had us researching our symptoms since we were kids, and the day she started having us do that, she has built our trust in the Taber’s. I have LOVED them putting this book and it’s information in a app for the phones.

Good app, but tired of having to pay to renew

Update: I now have access to TabersMedicalDictionary for 1 more year.

I bought TabersMedicalDictionary a few years ago. Because I did not renew it, I now do not have access to the content because TabersMedicalDictionary I bought has not been updated by the developer to work with later versions of iOS.

Great customer support

Customer support was more than helpful with my issues! Cannot wait to use TabersMedicalDictionary for nursing school! Thank you!!

Gaylen was extremely helpful and nice!!

Do not use unbound

I have had many of their products in last few years at about 60 an app. iOS 11 comes along and they are the ONLY app publisher that didn’t update their product to work in iOS 11. Their solution - rebuy every app to the updated iOS app. I bought the standalone non subscription app to prevent downstream costs with a huge upfront cost. Egg on my face huh.

Unbound had 2 years to update all their apps but chose to gouge their customer base!

Don't buy it's a rip off

I paid 39$ for the 21 edition and once they come up with their new update they remove it from iTunes Store and if I want to purchase the new version I have to pay for it .are you kidding this is called a rip off .please don't unless they come up with solution for the new update we either have to pay partial or free for those who already paid .

Suggestion for improvement

Starting to find words like ‘transentorhinal’ that are not in Tabor’s. Do you plan to upgrade the anatomical wordset, soon?

By

not so inclusive

most of the things I would like to know more about or haven’t a clue aren’t included. If you search for an acronym only the full words are shown not the definition. Don’t waste your money on this expensive app when you have google.

By

Performance

Nice but limited
Should huge work in Otology and neuro Otology

Needs Update

Apple’s last update is not compatible with the current version of Taber’s.... I need this resource for school ... STAT! Please fix this

By

Unusable unless you pay

It won't allow you to look anything up unless you pay $40. Why are definitions such a secret? Seriously have you ever heard of google? Don't waste your time. Just google what you wanna know

Nursing Student "Must Have!"

I almost dropped my iPhone (in excitement!) when I first discovered the availability of Taber's on TabersMedicalDictionary store. I've been using the Palm PDA version of Taber's for a year now and love it. The new version here on TabersMedicalDictionary store also provides users with all of the "figures" that were previously not available in the PDA versions. The outstanding figures take advantage of iPhone and iPod Touch’s unique ability to zoom in and out and include such things as the heart and cranial nerves among a thousand others. The program is also "self contained" meaning that after you download and purchase it you no longer need to connect to the web to use it, unless updating the software which is included for a year. I can't get over how amazing it is to have one of the best medical encyclopedias in my pocket with the amazing interface Apple has provided. Flawless! This is a "must have" for nursing students.

Ignore 2-star rating from those who can't be bothered to read the app's description

many of whom are also among those who expect something for nothing. TabersMedicalDictionary is a free iPhone/iTouch interface for the Taber's Dictionary which, like most if not all things of value in this world, costs money. There are a number of apps on the appstore which don't cost anything to download but require membership or purchase of something elsewhere in order to function. This is one of them. It works very well as an interface for Taber's Medical Dictionary. I *much* prefer Unbound's interface for common medical references such as Taber's to that of the competition, ie Skyscape. (Note that skyscape avoids getting bashed for a "free but not free" app by providing a few free chunks of content with it's reader/interface app. If you want Taber's through skyscape, however, you'll still have to pay for it.)

A fantastic resource for a busy medical student on the move!

This is the quickest and most reliable method that I've found, on the iPhone, for answering questions regarding medical terminology. Most importantly, it is always in my pocket. When you are busy on the ward and there are no free computers, you still have Taber's at your fingertips (provided you have a subscription). I just renewed my Taber's subscription, because it has been worth every penny over the last year (3rd year medical clerkships). Actually, the renewal is only ~$30.
- It has useful images, unlike some other med dictionary apps.
- You can save high yield terms in your favorites folder for review later in the day.

****** Note: To those upset about not getting something for nothing... ****************
- Taber's Medical Dictionary is not a free service. TabersMedicalDictionary to access it from your iPhone is free. This has been VERY clearly stated in the description of TabersMedicalDictionary above. It is wise to read descriptions before downloading apps and certainly before complaining about "false advertising".
- There are free dictionary apps, dictionary websites and of course Wiki (though you shouldn't trust it for anything clinical), if the price is the sticking point.

A good dictionary database, but some frustration with the interface.

I bought this program for use during and after PA school. We have lots of definitions to type, share and study. This was the only electronic version that was included as a choice dictionary. Overall I've been moderately satisfied, but improvements need to be made before I'd recommend this to a friend.

1. My biggest frustration is that the application itself doesn't seem able to handle a rapid flow of text. When typing, if I enter a string of characters any faster than hunt-and-poke with one hand duplicate characters appear. Thus, when I'm using my bluetooth keyboard or typing two handed on my iPad, a text entry such as atelectasis will appear "attelecctassis". Most frustrating to have to type 50 vocab words slowly.

2. Generally the database is sufficient, but on some entries I've been disappointed that there is not more information (a line or two at most). On others, the depth is great. Limited figures and charts make me miss my old RN dictionary.

3. Price and term hold me back given the above issues. If the price was more affordable, or the there was not a limited use term (I think 1 year for updating, afterwards, result is . . . ?) I would be more likely to recommend to others. The above issues should not exist in a dictionary of this price and of this name.

TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!

Definitely don't buy if you plan to upgrade your phone or have a bug and need to contact customer service. Im a physician and thought the $50 fee was reasonable, but I bought the new iphone 3GS/changed my phone# and I am no longer able to access Tabers. When I try to login, it denies me access and says to call customer service. When I called customer service, I always got an answering machine which said they will call you back in 1 business day. THEY NEVER CALLED BACK!!!! I've left a message nearly everyday for a 2 weeks, still no call back. I'm definitely not paying another $50 just to get this dictionary, and I will tell all my colleagues to never buy from Unbound out of pure principle.

Good Content, but can be better

I would recommend either
1. Taber's or
2. Dorland's illustrated dictionary 32nd

Dorland's is much more exhaustive and frankly I prefer Dorland's.

I had bought Taber's mobile dictionary 1 year ago thinking it was cheaper than Dorland's dictionary.

It is not so. Taber's purchase limits you to 1 year subscription for both mobile + web (a fact I didn't know until it expired a few days ago.)
Besides being restricted to one iPad + one phone (plus web access)

My mistake : I had thought it was a life time subscription, with the web access being available for 1 year.

Pros of Dorland's
1. one time purchase
2. I have two iPads, one phone, one ipod touch...my sister has one ipad, one iphone...So We share the ID, and thus TabersMedicalDictionary is available everywhere for use. ( cost / device becomes much cheaper this way.)

Dorland's, if you are reading this. Don't get any ideas and go the subscription style. I will be recommending you to many others.

Content wise, if money is not a problem, Get Taber's too. Some definitions are easier to understand in one app, and vice versa.
