Flexible for different parenting styles

Whether you do a monthly allowance, want to pay by the job, or both, RoosterMoney takes care of it. I LOVE the “regulars” for their monthly bills. (That’s right, the kids have bills too! Allowance is not just play money, they have expenses too!) The way we use it, our kids have regular jobs they “must do” to get their monthly allowance, say $20. But, they also have monthly bills, like their X-box Live, Netflix and Apple Music subscriptions. They’re all divided between our kids each month and that comes out of their “allowance” as well. It also allows flexibility in if/how they get paid that monthly “allowance”. They only do 50% of the jobs? They only get 50% of the pay. Won’t have enough to pay “regulars”? I guess you’d better make up the difference with some “extra earners” like vacuuming out the van, etc. I can split their $ into spending, saving and giving pots. The kids choose rewards: what they want to spend their money on. Now, when we’re at the store, they ask to check their Rooster Account to see if they have enough $ for X. Will they have enough for regulars if they buy X? Maybe they can do some extra earners, or make sure they’ve done their daily chore more often. Ahh, putting the decision back in their court is so satisfying. ☺️

The kids like it!

We’ve been using Rooster with our kids for about two weeks now and so far so good! It’s a work in progress to get the kids to refer to RoosterMoney for their chores, but they are quickly learning that if they don’t get those chores done daily, they lose a percentage of their allowance.
The kids DO really like having that visual of their money. My daughter blew through her Spend account the first week and then asked to rent a movie last night. I asked her how much money she had and when she checked she realized what she had done. I say that’s a good lesson learned.
I’m still getting the hang of RoosterMoney myself. I find checking on the chores a little difficult. It seems like sometimes the chores disappear from the list but I don’t remember the kids actually doing them. And I’m not too crazy about the Allowance Jobs and the Extra Jobs being on two different lists. I would like to see them flow together and maybe just tagged differently.
I would also like to see a setting that allows a percentage of the Extra Jobs money go directly into savings. So far only the Allowance Jobs have that option. I emailed the developers about this and they got back to me within a day and said they would add it to their request list for the next update.
Overall I’m pleased with RoosterMoney !

5 stars from our family!

We have been looking for a way to keep track of our kiddos’ spending money in a more on-the-go, fun, user-friendly way. We recently found the this app app. It’s all about managing pocket money with kids and teaching them about the value of money.

When we set it up, we had them bring us the amount of cash that he wanted to deposit in their this app “bank”. We can both have access to the same account so he can deposit and withdraw money from his phone and I can from mine. We can make notes for each transaction and we can also deposit/withdraw the same amount from multiple kids at the same time. When adding their “weekly commission” we can also sort it by “give”, “save”, and “spend” so we are teaching budgeting principles. It’s fun for them to see their money going up (or down) and helping them track how much money they have to work with in each of those 3 categories.
It’s also free to join with the option of upgrades to add chores and several other features. We are loving it so far!

Overall good so far - need some modifications

It would be great if when we boost money to our kids account it would automatically split it into our desired ratio of 80% spend, 10% save and 10% tithe. Instead you have to manually do that and enter 3 separate transactions with explanations. When making a withdrawal it would be nice if you could see what is in all 3 accounts while choosing the amount. We were previously using kidsbank and I was very disappointed when that app was shut down. We have 5 kids so you can imagine that managing their money and chores is not easy. We are liking RoosterMoney so far but modifying the features I mentioned would make this fantastic! Also it is a little glitchy when adding chores manually. If google can’t come up with a picture and you try to go back and edit, it wants to make you put in a deadline date instead of leaving it open ended so you have to delete the chore and re-enter it with a different name so that google can find a picture. For example, I entered straighten craft area and Game Center and all I could get was pictures of hair straighteners. I look forward to providing further feedback as we begin to use RoosterMoney .

Solves the problem for us!

Did we give the kids their allowance this week? Did Mom? Did Dad? Do we owe them from last week? 2 weeks ago? While we were on vacation? Did we forget to give them allowance on vacation? But didn’t we cover it by giving them extra spending money on vacation? What about that money grandma sent that we held onto because they didn’t have pockets/wallet?

How much money do you have in the bank? In your piggy bank, at home? How much do we owe you for doing that chore? Didn’t we pay you already? What about our last trip to the grocery store where you said you would buy that sugary cereal with your own money and pay us back when we got home? Did you pay us back yet? You did? I don’t remember, was it Dad or Mom you paid back?

We never have to worry about any of these questions, ever again! this app makes it simple to track a weekly allowance amount going into our kids accounts, we never forget and we can check from anywhere (and the kids can check from their mobile devices, too)! We can instantly deduct from their available balance if they want to get anything at the store while we’re out - no more questioning or forgetting to account for things.

Bonus? this app reflects exactly how electronic paychecks and banking work for adults in the real world and we’re training our kids (unbeknownst to them) on how to be adults with bank accounts long before they are old enough in the bank’s eyes to be issued a debit card.

Love it - Changed our frustration after school

Recommendation for a chore and allowance manager app... I love RoosterMoney!!!!

Rooster Money has completely changed the way that I mange chores and now we actually do allowance. The 4 girls have their daily chores to earn their modest allowance ($.50-$1.50) — And I can add chores throughout the day (e.g. someone left a mess in their room). No more “Mom, what do I need to do today? No more “I forgot my violin or to pack my lunch”. They mark it done daily. I decide each Sunday if they’ve completed enough to earn their allowance (or it can do it automatically). Love that it manages the “Bank of Mom and Dad”. It may seem like overkill but it works for us. If you’ve been looking, try it!

I’ve tried posted spreadsheets and Notes on my phone to track Birthday money, etc... Some people are certainly more organized than myself to not need this BUT I love my conversations about saving for a goal, Christmas Giving Goals, etc...

A working parents dream!

With both my husband and I working full time it is difficult to stay consistent with the kids and their responsibilities. Our children 13, 11 & 6 are finally doing their chores, setting goals and saving $.
They are pretty exited about earning their allowance to buy their goal items.
This is also holding us accountable to follow through with our expectations. I love that I can leave notes, add cute photos of the requested chores and they can too. They can also leave photos for their accomplishments. One job I created was to make sure mom and dad get their school notices. If their are none that day, they just write "none today". Our 6 year old's chores are daily tasks like brush teeth, get dressed for school, brush hair, do homework...
I also love the extra Job feature! Tasks that are out of the normal day to day and usually something I don't have time to do.
We will see how long we can keep this up. But so far it is working great.

Great way to keep track of all kids money

With 6 children, I needed a way to keep track of allowance- as well as keep tabs on how much money kids had when we went to the store, how much they had saved, and how much they were planning to donate.

Rooster money lets me set up a recurring allowance, and will even automatically split it into spending, savings, and charity categories (we use the charity category to automatically calculate tithing for our church). On top of that, within the spending money account, my children can pick specific things to save up for by setting “goals” and transferring money to that goal manually.

We do not have this linked to our actual bank account (don’t know if that’s possible), but that is fine for our needs- in our “Family Bank,” Mom is the teller and my wallet supplies cash. We remove money from their account in rooster money when they buy something at the store (it lets you label each transaction), and they pay for their purchases using my cash or credit cards. It is like a very fancy spreadsheet- but with super fun graphics that grow and shrink to show how much money you have. This has made teaching my children about finances and managing their accounts so much easier! I can easily see how much of my own checking account “belongs” to my children.

Thank you for this awesome app!

Great app! We have used for YEARS

I love RoosterMoney for money mgt for my kids. My 13 yr old daughter always wants to buy something at the store, but never has her own money with her. She does however always have her phone with her and can look up to see how much she has in her Rooster spend account. I can pay for it and immediately deduct from her ‘spend fund’. It really helps alleviate the burden of keeping up with cash allowance. We don’t attach the allowance to chores, but they do get $10/ week which is split between spend/share/save. They can see how much a little bit can add up in savings.
My older son got a job when he was 14 and eventually we stopped doing the Rooster app for him. He has done very well managing his real money / real bank accounts. He even saved enough money to pay for 50% of his first car when he turned 16.

Pretty good, with a few tweaks it’d be great

I really like RoosterMoney, however there is some inconsistency in how to transfer money, specifically into the “goals” section. Within the save, spend, share sections, you can transfer easily, but to transfer money into the goals section, you can only do it from within that section and only from the “spend” category, which I don’t understand.

I also get frustrated because RoosterMoney doesn’t allow for working on landscape orientation, which is really frustrating when that’s how the keyboard is like for a tablet. Doesn’t work easily to have RoosterMoney only in portrait mode and you keyboard is automatically set up for landscape, so when you’re typing on a keyboard (like adding notes about what money was for), the screen orientation doesn’t match. Small thing and you can use the keyboard on the screen or tilt your head, but its kind of annoying.

So far... I love it!

I love RoosterMoney... so far!! My 10 and 12 year old do also! Finally, something we can stick to and everyone is accountable! I’m amazed at how things are actually getting done! We are also a split family so this works SOO well with both parents on board in each of our houses!!

You asked for suggestions... (Thru RoosterMoney and I lost the area for suggestions ... so I’ll do it here.)

- perhaps age related chores to choose from as opposed to just chores - (more extensive/creative pre-list)
- kids can create a chore on their device and ask a parent if can be added to their list (gets them involved!)
- educate the KIDS on saving, interest etc.
- fun short videos they can LEARN from
- show examples of interest and how it works
- multiple goals? (Maybe thats already an option I forgot ... and I’m only a week into it) ... if they want to save for multiple items
- kids might get a kick out of sounds for different actions

- I agree on just a one time fee!!!!!!

.... I probably could go on - only cause I love this idea and want to improve on the great app you already have going.

I decided I would give this a two week trial (I’m a PLUS customer) and if I’m still as happy as I am ... I will be blasting this out to all my friends, acquaintances and FB groups (which may include a “few” Mom groups)!

Great App that gets the kids involved

Rooster money has improved the way we do chores and allowance earning in our home. I used to have to get cash out to pay them for their weekly chores, and sometimes I would run out! Now I keep a bank account with all of their combined money in it, and the Roosevelt’s app keeps track of the division of funds. Once payday comes around, the kids love adding their “pay” to their goals, putting money in savings and making sure they “give” out of every pay period. I also love that their “kid app” allows them to view their accounts in their shares cell phone so they can check at any time. Rooster has made payday a cinch and my kids are SAVING MORE OF THEIR MONEY because they love watching it grow and have set financial goals. I would definitely recommend for any size family. (Our Family includes 3 Kids age 12, 10, and 8)

Love the idea - extremely poor execution!

Conceptually I love this idea and I’m generally pretty easy to please with software/apps but, I can not believe how annoying this software is. I signed up for the rooster plus trial with the full intention of keeping the subscription going but, after wasting my time for the last half an hour setting it up, it’s pretty clear I will be closing the account ASAP. This software is not intuitive or user friendly at all. It’s obnoxious how much you have to click around to add basic tasks/chores. It’s absolutely stupid that you can’t see the tasks you’ve created and assigned in a single calendar view or at least in a view that shows frequency/child assignments. Oh, and if you have more than one child that you want to assign the same task on different days...yeah, software can’t handle that. What a total waste of my time. Save yourself the hassles and find another solution. I can not believe this has as high a rating on RoosterMoney Store as it does?!?

Paid version is good, but needs improvement

If you pay the premium version, you can set allowance jobs which are a kids regular chores and extra jobs, which are additional tasks that your kids can do to earn extra. When you set these up, you can set the frequency with which a task appears on the list. For example you can creat an extra job of cleaning the bathroom and set that task to repeat weekly. So when your kid cleans the bathroom this week, it won’t come up again till next week.
THE PROBLEM: I have three kids and I set up extra chores in the list that all 3 can do. My daughter did the bathroom and crossed it off. It’s not on her list anymore but my two sons still have it on theirs. This means they can now clean the clean bathroom and check it off on their list too! I set the frequency I want the task done, not based on which kid does it. This definitely needs to change as the alternative is for me to make each kid a list for themselves which defeats the reason I’m paying for this.

Hope to see it corrected soon!

Love this app!

I learned about RoosterMoney from the book, The Secret of Happy Families. I decided to give it a try with my 2 daughters. I love it! I have their allowance set up to be paid every Sunday, and they appreciate that I never forget! I also love that I can set it to be distributed to “Spend, Save, and Donate” categories. This is a discipline I want to instill in them for a lifetime.

My favorite part has to be the statements. My younger daughter spends as soon as she earns, while her sister saves. So when she sees her balance and compares it, we then talk about why she has no money and look at where it has gone.

Because it is not actually tied to a financial institution, I am comfortable with them having RoosterMoney linked on their own devices so they can also check their balances at any time. I tell my friends about RoosterMoney all the time. I love it! It does exactly what it advertises.

Love this app

I use RoosterMoney to help motivate my 13 yo son to help out around the house. We have set up a weekly chore list and I give his $10 allowance to him at the end of each week. He has RoosterMoney on his phone too and he likes being able to see how much he has earned.

I also reward him when he does things that are hard for him or he is working on. Sometimes I use it as a carrot, and it works.

And now he’ll come to me and say ‘Take $4.99 out of my Rooster for Roblox ‘. He feels some autonomy over his financial decisions. We have a rule that any money grandparents give, half of it goes into the savings in Rooster. So he is racking up some savings too. We have not started the ‘goals’ or ‘giving’ yet. RoosterMoney works for us, we will continue to use it and add those two sections later.

Dave Ramsey would love this app

We have used a modified version of Dave Ramsey’s method with our kids for years now. We made paper charts to track their earnings and divvy it up into tithing, gifts, savings, and spending. Then we would give them cash for their spending and keep track on our chart of everything else. Totaling at the end of the year, cashing out and making a new chart.

The problem was, when we were at the store, they never had their wallet, and the never knew exactly how much cash they had so when they saw something they wanted to buy, they didn’t know if they could.

RoosterMoney solves so many problems! It keeps track of all the different pots that their money goes in, AND it’s always available so we never wonder at the store anymore. And we never forget to have them pay me back when we get home. We just remove it from their “bank” and move on with life! I love RoosterMoney so much.

At the end of the year. We add up their tithing and let them pick something from those gift catalogs. They usually pick fruit trees or chickens. RoosterMoney makes it easy to donate to a charity when you’re ready and even has an “envelope” for giving.

Well developed. User friendly, good design, thoughtful and powerful tool. Highly recommended!

This is a great app.

RoosterMoney is flexible enough to work with our way of doing things. We tried other app’s and the user interface was garbage. It was overloaded and crowded. I hated it. My brother in law found RoosterMoney and suggested it and it’s like night and day. There was a slight learning curve and we did pay the fee for full access, but I think it was well worth it. I like that I can choose whether or not to pay the full allowance each week. The chore tracker works well for us. Overall, it’s been great. I wanted something that didn’t require actual bank account or cards for our kids, they are all a little young for that. I really like the savings goals that the kids can set up. It works well for helping the kids learn how to save and budget for things they want and need.

Excellent!

We use RoosterMoney for our 3 year old! We are currently just using the stars (rather than dollar amounts). We love the versatility of RoosterMoney and that our daughter can still earn interest on saved stars. We also like that we can both have RoosterMoney on our phones and add stars when we are not watching our daughter together. It’s definitely a step up from our original sticker chart on the wall! Our daughter is still highly motivated to do well and we can offer stars “on the spot” when we need her to be brave and try something new. We plan to continue to use RoosterMoney as she gets older and eventually switch over to money values once she has a better understanding of it.

Great app for parents and child!

We had used another app for a “virtual bank” for my children. Was never thrilled w it’s usability and functions but thought it was the most decent one at the time. Then I lose my phone and all my settings, and come to realize RoosterMoney was not really virtual. It does not have a cloud so we lost all info for my three kids.
Months after shopping around, we came across Rooster Money. Best app ever! Really virtual. Can access account through any device w your account access and even a child w his/her device can have limited access to their account — they can view their account but cannot edit (like add/delete money). So practical and user friendly. We love it!

Teaching accountability

I have 3 kids aged 15, 12 and 6 and they all use RoosterMoney very differently. My 6 year old setup a saving goal (complete with picture of item 😊) and put her “earnings” from helping around the house into her account. She doesn’t get a weekly allowance but has become super hooked on earning enough to buy her wishlist items. The older boys have a weekly allowance for walking the dog and I love the flexibility to be able to transfer between them and to deduct regular expenses (my eldest pays $20 per month for replacement cell phone). It has helped hugely to reduce arguments and eliminate the need tracking cash (which will be more transferable skill in the cashless world they are growing into).

Useful Allowance App

Our family has tried a few different ways to manage our daughter’s allowance, and this is by far the best and easiest. Both parents have RoosterMoney as does our daughter, this we can all see how much she has and make immediate deductions when she wants to buy something. The auto deposit means we never have to wonder if we’ve remembered to give her her allowance. I worried at first that without her having the cash she wouldn’t get a real sense of how to take care of her money, but really who uses cash anymore? And she seems to appreciate the money more now that she can easily check her balance and see what she has spent.

FINALLY MOTIVATION for my 4 kids...

It has taken me a long time to figure out a way to motivate my kids to do chores and at the same time keep track of all the nickle and diming me for the chores they “completed”... now I can keep track of what they do, I can approve it via a picture they send me, and best thing is the UI is super intuitive and easy to use ( my kids are 7, 9 year old twins and an 12 year old).

I have recommended RoosterMoney to ALL of my friends and I will continue to recommend to anyone who will listen!!!
Thank you rooster money for helping put a little more organization and a whole lotta extra help around the house with my 4 new little helpers ;) 😜

Great app please read my review it will help

So over all RoosterMoney is pretty good but there are some problems in my life for it but maybe you like them in your life I wish the kid had more control over the money so that they can learn more. And please I hope the company will add chores that a kid can do to earn money because right now all you do to give the kids money is give them something called a boost and I do not think that is very fun for them size you want them to know why they’re honoring the money because they earned it by doing the dishes or mowing the grass or cleaning the car so please fix that overall it was a great app no bug problems so I give this four stars

Large Family Organized

RoosterMoney has helped our large family become better organized. Our 8 children are able to see what is expected to be completed for the day and check it off. No more charts that get lost and no more “I forgot mom.” The allowance feature is fantastic as well. I sampled many other apps before settling on this one. I like that it helps kids save, spend and give as well as save towards purchases. They can see where their money is going and so can I. No more “I KNOW I have $10 left” when it was really spent on something else but not a soul can remember on what it was spent. So thankful.
