App no longer works

As premature UnionBank used to be, at least it used to work until I upgraded my phone’s operating system to iOS 12. Ever since then UnionBank continues to give me a “SSL” error. Union Bank’s tech support says that they know about the issue and they’re working to fix it. This happened a couple of years ago when a new version of iOS was rolled out. UnionBank was basically out of commission for a few months. What I don’t understand is why these people don’t prepare in advance for new and up coming operating systems like everyone else does.
Very disappointing.

Check deposit problems

Limit for mobile deposits is $5000, support says there is no permanent way to fix this.

Also, if UnionBank can’t “read” the account numbers at the bottom of the check, it will keep you in an endless loop of retaking the picture. Apparently, not only is OCR too difficult for this app App developers to get right, it also hasn’t occurred to them that users would much rather take on the Herculean task of entering two 9-digit numbers by hand than not be able to complete a deposit. Maybe the incomparable geniuses behind the Chase Mobile app have patented the numerical data entry feature, because their app allows this.

Average App In the Beginning but Getting Worse Regularly

I’ve been using UnionBank for over three years and at first it worked okay but as the “upgrades” have evolved UnionBank has got incrementally worse. This is especially true on the deposit check feature which as of today will no longer work. The prompts tell you to get closer, which isn’t possible and to use a dark background which is not possible- black is black. The menus have also just become ridiculous and more user unfriendly as they constantly change UnionBank . I highly recommend you don’t bother with the iPad version of this application.

Horrible App - Garbage - Bank Doesn’t Care

UnionBank is rarely updated compared to other financial institutions. It force-closes frequently. The mobile deposit function consistently fails because it can’t recognize the endorsement. The picture must be snapped repeatedly until it accepts the deposit. There is no automatic photo feature. I have accounts at other banks and the differences in all aspects are considerable. The worst part is that Union Bank does not care to change or improve anything. I am strongly considering closing my accounts and taking my business elsewhere but for the royal pain involved in changing banks.

Doesn’t work anymore

Ever since the new update I can not mobile deposit a check.

UnionBank doesn’t automatically take a picture of the check like it says. It keeps saying move closer and use a dark background. After trying to take a picture, it then gives me an option to manually take the picture. I take the picture and UnionBank uploads the picture of the check vertically instead of horizontally, which makes only 10% of my check visible in the picture.

Therefore you can not mobile deposit a check since the picture taking part does not work anymore.

Worst mobile banking app I have ever used

Trying to deposit checks through UnionBank is a horrendous experience. Despite amounts matching on the check and me inputting, back of the check being endorsed, clear pic of the check, etc it almost always fails. Navigating through previous statements is not good either, extremely confusing. UnionBank itself crashes every now and then.

UPDATE: I wrote my original review awhile back and still UnionBank continues to experience problems. The newest one being “network lost” after submitting the deposit. I have no issues with other banking apps.

Can’t e-deposit after updates

App was working very well up until the previous & latest app updates. I used to be able to endorse checks with my business stamp, take pic within app then check was deposited.
After the previous update, UnionBank could no longer read the stamped endorsement so I had to write X’s or the company name anywhere around the stamp and would some times work. Now nothing works which is forcing me to drive to the local branch to deposit it.
Please fix this! The e-deposit feature is not only a time-saver but keeps us from having burning fossil fuels.

Credit card payment error ruins app

Fix your credit card payment in bill pay. When we go to pay off the credit card on bill pay, it replies with an error message. The interest accruing while we wait a week to see if the credit card was paid off results in additional and unjustified interest or fees. If you’re doing this with millions of customers, that seems to be a profitable and disturbing business practice. Please correct ASAP while we look for other. Resor card companies who have more reliable apps for banking.

The most recent update (2020) has killed Face ID on my iPhone 11. I reset the biometrics as suggested, and Face ID sets up again on my iPad, but still wants me to reset biometrics again on my iPhone. This has been going on for months now. I have reset biometrics, many times. My iPad offers to set up Face ID when I sign in after a reset. My iPhone 11 only offers Reset Biometrics to me after every reset. Frustrating enough that I may move all my funds to Chase Bank whose app is excellent to use...

Card unlock function unusable

I can lock the card from UnionBank ; but, when I go to unlock it, I can’t enter the expiration month and year. Whenever I try to navigate to that screen, it just backs up after half a second before I get the chance to touch anything.

I uninstalled and reinstalled UnionBank multiple times, and no go. I was about to restore the phone when I thought to test it on my iPad. Same issue. I have to keep a shortcut tile for the website on my phone, just so I can unlock.

I gave it two stars because check deposit works… for now. Otherwise, it’d get one.

Newest version poorly designed

UnionBank was always easy to sign on to. However, this latest version is not. Relevant fields were always near the top of the page. In the new update, they’ve added a giant logo that takes up half of the screen. Everything else move down.
When I try to type in the password on my iPad, the password box is below the virtual keyboard where I can’t see it.
Utility has taken a back seat to marketing. Lose the giant logo. I KNOW I signed on to Union Bank. I don’t need a 300 point font telling me so.

No more push notifications???

UPDATE: I noticed recently that push notifications is no longer an option for an alert type. (Not that they rarely came through anyway) it would’ve been nice to have working notifications for everything that’s turned on in addition to text alerts but looks like it was better and easier for you guys to take away that option from us all together hmm?

Some of the push notifications are finally coming through on my iPhone. After how many years UnionBank has been out? I could play around and customize the alert settings in UnionBank all I want and it seems to not make a difference whatsoever. However only when I use my debt card I get push notifications, awesome! But any other activity with my account and I don’t receive push notifications. Please continue to enable push notifications for all activity on our accounts. Also it’s been telling me I don’t have an email on file for alerts for quite a while now but when I deposit a check using UnionBank I get a confirmation email immediately. Makes sense right?

I like UnionBank as it is very comparable to other bank apps.

Problem: notifications don’t work. Several notifications are configured in UnionBank , and they’re enabled in the OS. But, I have yet to see a notification of any kind on my XR. However, notifications are visible in the “alerts” portion of UnionBank ; it’s something, but not the expected or desired behavior.

Just started with Union Bank. I was with Chase for many many years and was shown the door but that story is for a different day. Their app was put together quite well and you know they have the money to do it. Union Bank seems very dated but cones across plain and clear. It's user friendly and hopefully works for me. They were bought out by US bank so I'm sure the changes will be big. So jury is out.

I had almost given up on UnionBank. It wouldn't even open up when I tried to use it. I uninstalled and reinstalled it at least 3 times. Something made me try one more time. Everything that I use seems to work now. I can see 30 days of transactions. It is so much easier to check my balance in UnionBank than to call on phone or use laptop.

I don’t have a lot of banking products with Union Bank, as I am new to them, but I do have a “Bank Freely” checking account with them. I like the look of UnionBank, and the colors are fun. There is a demo mode that shows how UnionBank works, i.e transfers, mobile check deposits, etc which is awesome. All other banking apps (or at least the ones I’ve used) these days let you see your full account number, and Union Bank does not. I’m not sure why. You can find it on their full website at least, but it would be nice to see it on UnionBank . And, another weird omission - app alerts, and not via text or email, but push notifications. I already get too many texts & emails from everything else, but most everyday banking alerts are best received as a push notification from UnionBank itself. It makes for less clutter. I really do like UnionBank , but these not-so-minor supportive features are pretty much standard these days, so it’s just strange to see them omitted. Hope they are implemented in future updates.

Union Bank has gone through many name changes, but it has always been my Bank.
I’ve been with you for over 30 years!
I’ve had nothing but personal and good service!
I didn’t give you 5 stars because the drive up is very slow, which I shouldn’t complain since I’m sitting in my car but sometimes it gets aggravating to be there for 5 to 10 minutes and no one comes to say: I’m sorry I am with a customer, I’ll be right with you!
Other than that ... I would give you a 10 !
The Bank is very easy to access, it always had good security, courteous personal, plenty of parking spaces and now that I’m 75 years old I enjoy the drive up ATM and also having a drive up with a person in it.

Used to Work (update)

It works! I wrote a nasty review earlier this day about how I couldn’t log in and got network errors after the new update and tried it again this evening and now it works! Hopefully all the other features work as well.

Mobile banking is easy with UnionBank — I can easily deposit a check, pay a bill here and there, quickly transfer money between accounts, even send money to an account in another bank (haven’t used that feature in awhile, hopefully I still can).

I find UnionBank very easy to use and to navigate between accounts.
I have several accounts and I can easily go from one account to the other, it’s simple to transfer funds, deposit checks and use bill pay. UnionBank makes banking so convenient.

I really like UnionBank. It’s very convenient and not so hard to use. I have never had any problems with it besides the fact it sometimes does not recognize my face or it doesn’t remember my user name so I have to always sign in, but that’s not too big of an issue. It’s always quick to show my transactions, etc. I can always transfer money back and forth without having to go to the bank. I would recommend !

I have had no results trying to use UnionBank for days now. I have deleted it and reinstalled it 4 times in the last 5 days. It flashes Union Bank on the screen and then closes down. Tech support has been "notified" according to customer service, who could only offer the recommendation to "try it again in 48 hours". They seem to be satisfied that customers can log in using the browser based page. Why have an app then? I'm on version 2.7.1. Very disappointing.

Not made for int’l customers

If you live abroad and UnionBank needs to update, it will tell you it is not available in your region and therefore you can no longer use it. In order to update it, you need to change your location to the USA and input an American credit card and address in order to update UnionBank . A real nuisance and the entire procedure takes 20 minutes. Not exactly sure why UnionBank was designed this way as Union Bank is owned by a Japanese bank (MUFG) and you would think it would tailor to multi-national customers...

Locks you out

I’m giving UnionBank one star because I’m sick and tired of always being forced to reset my password anytime UnionBank doesn’t recognize my finger print. If it doesn’t recognize my finger print, at least give me the opportunity to type in my password before just locking me out. I’ve had to reset my password so many times, I can’t even remember what the current password is anymore without writing it down and that just makes things less secure.

Worst check reader software ever

I tried to use the deposit function on UnionBank and it kept rejecting the photo I submitted. It says it can’t read the routing number on the bottom of the check even though I tried multiple times making sure the bottom number is clearly included in the shot. US Bank has a better check reader app. I never had any problems with the mobile deposit.

Overall okay but needs certain updates

The look is good. Here are some suggestions -

cash reserve bill pay options should show you minimum or total due as a convenience. Currently I have to go to the summary page, choose cash reserve account, choose details to finally get the balance due with the interest accrued which is the full payoff. At that point I have to write it down or memorize it until I get to the bill pay section. I wish you could just do it all in one section.

Mortgage portal or mortgage payment options should be available on the regular site such as the payments referenced above.

Finally, the summary page. It freezes or remains updating for so long sometimes I just close UnionBank and restart. I mean, that's a basic update that should be addressed.

Everything else works as it should, payments, transfers, bill pays, etc.

give me back the account transfer option before I switch banks. for some reason it says my “account doesn’t have that feature” bs. I’ve had UnionBank for 2 years and have never had an issue. It gives me the option to go on the “union bank” website. But that doesn’t help me any further to make a transfer. Great.

I like your app and it’s simple and easy to use but have previously had another bank app which could turn off an on your card and it’s very useful for security reasons. I feel more comfortable knowing my card won’t get used when I’m not aware of what anyone is charging me for so please, take time to put this useful feature!

Unable to view last 90 days of transactions

Unable to view transactions for the last 90 days. Transactions only go back to January 2nd. Also the December 2018 statement doesn’t show up as an option, so there is no way to see any December transactions (which are part of the 90 days.)
