I am so disappointed!!!

When I first started using SmartRewards it was great. But I have had problems with the payments being taken out of my account. I would see the payment taken out but then all of a sudden it would go through again and put me at negatives ?? Which isn’t right. This has happened so many times and has cost me well over 300 at this point. This is ridiculous. Today I got a call from a debt collector which I was furious because I can see the transactions taken out of my bank account!!! I already paid the late fee that they took out of my bank account but I HAVE TO PAY AN EXTRA $80 tomorrow!! As a college student who is supporting herself , SmartRewards is making me go broke. I would rather pay full price for gas or start going to a different gas station who isn’t going to take medicine from me! This isn’t right and this is messed up!! I will be telling others to delete SmartRewards unless they want to get fined for no reason and money taken out even though it has already been paid for !!!!

Completely useless since update

Use to be a great app until some idiot who gets paid way to much for his job decided to fix things that weren’t broken and update SmartRewards and changed everything about it. SmartRewards is way more complicated and confusing to use now, that is when you can get it to actually work. Since the update it has been nothing but problems. SmartRewards barely works. It’ll open but you can’t do anything with it when it comes to trying to get gas with it. It won’t start the pump or do anything you go through everything and instead of setting the pump it either says unkown error or does nothing. Paying in the store for things is no better. I’ve only gotten it to work once paying for things inside the store and even that time had to try 10 different times. SmartRewards after the update decided to ad some credit card that’s not mine and I’ve never seen before as my payment method and I can’t get rid of it and had to call to try and fix it, still have that card on there but had to connect my bank account to be able to pay they said, well it still doesn’t work besides the one time it did. I’ve called multiple times and still nothing but issues. They need to fire who ever made the decision to update SmartRewards along with everyone who worked on the update because all they did was break something that worked perfectly fine and make it a lot more complicated to navigate and completely useless.

SmartPay

Be really careful with this smart pay program, I believe it’s come a scam to get your bank information, I signed up and gave them my information that they requested ie bank account number and routing information , few days later get an email informing me that now they want copy of drivers license and a copy of a utility bill, never mentioned this was needed at the time of sign up, I decided to call support from Cumberland Farms and see why they needed this information now and not at the beginning of signing up, the rep just said with an irritating voice it’s about more information needed for security information, this further information so called needed now should have been explained at the beginning not few days later by email, I called their partners zip line to cancel my account, thy wanted my DOB and my last 4 numbers of my SS number to cancel my account you kidding me I NEVER HEARD THIS BEFORE YOU NEEDED MY LAST 4 OF MY SS NUMBER TO CANCEL MY ACCOUNT. I would not trust this company at all!! Things don’t just add up, BE CAREFUL A SCAM IN MY OPINION!!!!

New App stinks even after bug fixes

To whom it may concern,

The new app that downloaded to my phone is horrendous! I joined Smart Rewards years ago and SmartRewards worked excellent and I never have had an issue. Since the new app was downloaded a few weeks ago, it has yet to function correctly. It is clunky, does not work properly, can't seem to see the pumps etc. All since the new download.

I have stated this within the stores I have gone to, Attleboro, Hopkinton, Westboro. All attendants say to me that they been hearing this from all their customers. Why is nothing being done about this?

This morning I went to the Hopkinton MA store by my home and SmartRewards would not work. Giving numerous errors, I had to pull out my Credit Card and pay $0.10 more a gallon because of a CF issue. I only put in enough gas to get me to my work location in Attleboro. The store on Pleasant Street would not get the pump to see SmartRewards , so I drove over to the County Street CF and finally got my app to work. I had to enter my payment details in twice to get it to work. My payment details have been in SmartRewards since you first came out with SmartRewards , but now every time I try to get gas I have to enter it in again.

Fix it or lose me. This is just not worth my time. Usually Apps get better with time, CF did the exact opposite and have yet to acknowledge it.

Sorry for the rant, but this is just bad service to loyal customers trying to get gas.

Why must it be so nosy?

I wanted to save money on gas and tabaco and I shop at Turkey Hill all the time because it’s across the street. I used to use their rewards system for gas discounts but then they switched over to SmartRewards. I downloaded it and started setting it up then exited and deleted.
All TH used to track purchases/discounts was a gift card linked to a phone number (and they didn’t even need the phone number if you just swiped the physical card each time.) All that most other rewards apps need for their most basic functions is your name, email address and a rewards card. WHY does SmartRewards need my full name, phone number, birthday, email address, checking account information (um, no!) AND my street address just to track and distribute rewards points? You can’t even create create an account without providing this info, much less explore the features and decide for yourself which info you are willing to part with for which services. SmartRewards even recommends scanning your drivers license for “speedy sign-up.” Yeah right. Sus! And annoying!

IMMEDIATE collections agency

I used SmartRewards for the first time in a while to get gas, and only when the charge didn’t appear in my bank after a day did I realize SmartRewards must have had my old bank account. So, just open SmartRewards and connect to my new bank account— easy peasy, right? NOPE, of course not. Not only is it IMPOSSIBLE to change your payment method via SmartRewards OR online (the website they sent me to kept saying I had no account despite it letting me log in, and there was no option to MAKE an account, it just brought me to the same useless screen). Then, within TWO DAYS, I began getting calls from a collection agency which I first thought was spam before realizing it was the Cumberland Farms charge!!! Instead of reaching out to me first and getting the issue resolved directly, they immediately pawned my charge off on a collections agency and now I have to pay a $25 fee on top of the gas cost!!! I’m livid—it was an honest mistake that I genuinely wanted to fix. Now I’m never using SmartRewards OR gas station company again. Kcuf you, Cumbies!!!

Cumberland farms crap pay

One of the worst apps I have ever used. On top of the worst customer service. I got SmartRewards to save money on tobacco. One of the cashiers sold me on it by saying it was same day charge and that I would save extra money on gas and tobacco. It’s not same day and even with the cashiers help we could not get the tobacco service set up and even with calling during business hours I could not get in touch with a service rep. Left multiple messages on different “service “ numbers only to have someone call me back weeks later saying a charge did not go thru because I wasn’t aware they were charging me days later. Now I’m being charged for something I have only saved .77 cents on. If I could give it a zero rating I would give it a double zero. I was completely misled and now I’m paying for it. Oh and they still haven’t contacted me back for customer service. The rudest lady ever told me she could not help “ fix “ the issues I am having with SmartRewards . Getting rid of SmartRewards as soon as possible. Thieves and crooks is all SmartRewards gives access to. 🤯😩😞😵😡🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬

!!!!!!SCAM!!!!!

They advertise the discounted price, but don’t actually give it to you even if you use SmartRewards . At one point I called them and told them that I was not getting the discount and they told me you only get the discount twice. I understand you get a special additional discount when you first join. But I’m not getting any discount whatsoever. If that was the case, the gas stations would not advertise two prices one for members and one for nonmembers. The guy on the phone was stuttering when I told him he was clearly lying. He couldn’t even keep his story straight as to what the actual policy was. Every station I go to all tell me the same thing. “This just happens and there’s nothing they can do about it.” I don’t even bother calling anymore. I’ve probably lost over $100 and they offer me a free beverage. What a slap in the face. I’m writing this review now because I’ve decided to just stop using any gas station associated with SmartRewards. and to top it off, they have you put your bank information on SmartRewards . The way it’s run, that’s just a recipe for money to go missing.

Worthless company

Got gas one day and they took a couple days to take out the money from my account and me not realizing they still hadn’t took it out I was under by about 3 dollers and got an over draft fee of 25 for not having sufficient founds then again 3 days later another 25 so I called and asked what for, they weren’t helpful at all they couldn’t return my money or help out like during a pandemic you’d think they would alert you or something just recharged me so all my 3 years saving of 10 cents a gallon down the drain over 3 dollers like how are you going to charge someone 25 after not having sufficient funds thus also cause my banks draft fees doubling it to over $100 for total money lost. Also before charging the second 25 they had already put my card account on freeze so don’t know why they charged me again.( I figured if it’s late then I will at least get a couple days to get a check and pay it off since I also had whasted what I had on rent and bills but they didn’t help with anything thought company would be better always loved Cumberland since there old stores but lately not been impressed with anything

DO NOT USE THIS SERVICE!!!!!

Signed up for this back in 2014 and had be using for with no issues until I had to change my bank account information. First of all, it’s impossible to do so on their website and I have to call on the phone and get transferred to 4 different people to try to fix it. I used the account when it was still attached to my old bank account for $7.01, realizing my mistake and IMMEDIATELY calling and emailing to fix it. They send you on a run around, telling you the payment isn’t rejected yet and you can’t pay until it’s rejected so you have to wait until it’s rejected and call back to pay. A couple days later when it finally rejected I was in collections with a $35 fee for a $7 charge I had already tried to fix and was told this is the correct course of action!!!!! And after speak to several of their employees they deny the first conversation ever happened (even though they do have a documented phone call from me that day). THIS IS SCAMMING PURE AND SIMPLE!!!! It’s not worth the $0.10 cents per gallon savings. Do not download and don’t use, just use your own form of payment. Most other gas stations have better deals anyway!

Clerical error resulted it $40 in fees

Due to a clerical error on my end, a payment for two transactions totaling under $15 did not clear my bank and resulted in an e-mail that looked precisely like a scam, and four months later a letter in the mail from a debt collector, who was completely unwilling to remove the two $20 fees that resulted from me mistaking their very suspicious looking e-mail as a scam. I spent hours on the phone with these jokers, offered to pay what I originally spent on the spot less the fees, and also spoke with Cumberland Farms’ customer service who talked down to me as if I was a stupid child and offered no assistance. I paid these jerks nearly $55 for a hot dog and $10 in fuel to avoid damaging my good credit. Several members of my family, after looking at the e-mail that they sent and the subsequent collections letter agreed that this was very predatory. Unless someone contacts me with an apology and $40 (don’t care if it’s a store credit) I am will never again set foot in a Cumberland Farms, neither will several friends and family members who agree that this was very wrong - and I would recommend that others run the other way. Just pay by some other means and you’ll be fine.

Updates are horrible.

Since the changing of SmartRewards and the updates, I have literally not been able to use SmartRewards to pump gas at a Cumberland Farms. I have tried their customer service number and had all my information verified and my passwords and pins updated, which was supposed to fix the issue with the new app download. Quite frankly, I’m horrified that these are called updates. SmartRewards was so easy to use and worked every time before it was updated to a now in inconsistent app.

Response and update. The developers responded to me that they were working on issues and changes were or will be made. So I gave SmartRewards another try. Deleted all aspects of SmartRewards prior, created a brand new profile. New email. Entered date of birth, license and uploaded payment bank information. Zip line replied and I was all set to use! Stopped to buy gas today. PAYMENT WOULD NOT WORK! Went in to store. Lovely clerk tried to pay by app. Nope. You could see my bank info was in there and I had received the confirmation of bank info connected and yet……once again, I had to use credit card at pump and NO discount. I’m done. Fix SmartRewards . Don’t fix it. I’m deleting all my data once again and downloading the Mobil app. If you’re smart, you will too.

Need to improve ability to change bank account information

I have used SmartRewards for at least a year now with no problem, however I needed to change my bank account information after a hacker compromised my checking account and there does not seem to be an easy way to do this. I have the Target Red Card and was easily able to update my banking information. However when I tried to update my information in SmartRewards it does not seem as easy and user friendly, and unfortunately a transaction through SmartRewards was not completed before my bank locked up my accounts, and I needed to reach out to some other company to take care of that payment. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to get a hold of someone and today I received a letter to pay my balance plus and additional $35 late fee, and this is not a letter from Cumberland Farms but some check company which after already having one account compromised makes me uneasy. After this experience I will it be using SmartRewards , especially since most local gas stations do better deals on Sundays anyways than the Cumberland Farms deal.

App review

Convenient and easy to use for gas, not to mention the savings add up! 😁 Only critique is store item purchases are slightly confusing and cashiers aren’t always trained enough to help. Lost a free item promo due to cashiers confusion on my first purchase. When I asked how to do it, being a new customer and my first use of SmartRewards , it was redeemed but not put in on the register after I was told to redeem it during the transaction. Instead of getting a free item I was charged for it and told oh well you messed up and redeemed it without a scan. She told me to redeem it and had never mentioned the scan part. Ended up returning it for cash and lost it. A bit frustrating. It was just a soda and she should have owned her mistake in not explaining it correctly by telling me it needed to be scanned or took it off the bill right away at least considering I told her I was new and needed help from the start. Oh well positives outweigh the negatives. Great app though now that I know what to do to be sure it works. Just suggest more employee training to help new app users.

Love it but……….

I have purchased my fuel at Cumbies primarily because of the 10 cent discount, especially now. I am on the road every day and it gets expensive. my biggest issue, is the fact that many times especially in the Warrensburg store a receipt is not provided. I have advised management many many times about it and they have been gracious enough to reply to some of them. However, they want to see the solution as the fact that I can print it out from SmartRewards . However, because I’m on the road working every day I make a practice of entering my expenses and copying my receipt when I get back into my vehicle so I don’t get home at the end of the day and have to do some accounting. Obviously I can go inside to get it but that’s a pain in the neck, and without fail, it’s when I’m running late or it’s pouring outside and I have to go inside wait in line to get a receipt. Because my purchase is always substantially over $25 the IRS wants me to have a receipt for it. it seems to be a programming issue and supposedly they were working on it but that’s been going on for over two years. It’s just really annoying! Thanks for asking.

Pure insanity

My entire family has been using the Smart Pay Rewards app for gas purchases for nearly 5 years I believe. Also recommended it to numerous friends. All was fine until someone decided to improve the new and “improved app”. No one that I know has been able to get SmartRewards to work. Personally, I have made more than 10 calls to a myriad of tel #s and it has been a comedy of errors. End result is it still does not work. I was told 2 weeks ago to abandon SmartRewards and visit a store and get a smart pay rewards app card and use that instead of SmartRewards . Had to visit 6 stores before I was able to locate one. Called the # on the back of the card to activate the card and was told I didn’t have a account with them. Finally called one of the numerous #s I have collected over the past 2 months and after 10 mins was told the card was activated. Not a lot of faith in that statement. Can’t possibly imagine who built the new app but Cumberland farms is taking a huge hit in this one. Was one of the fastest growing gas station in my area and most people I know have abandoned them. What a horror show this is.

******UPDATE******

Since posting my review, I decided to contact the company for a final time and was finally able to get SmartRewards working without any problems. I have purchased gas 2x since and SmartRewards worked flawlessly. Was also pleased that someone actually responded to my post.

Will update when it's working

Boy does this ever require a lot of effort. I'll save everyone the hassle of installing this by letting you know you need to share your bank routing numbers with SmartRewards and then verify a small charge and deposit amount later. I suppose it's good that there is this added security, but that's kind of why we have Apple Pay (of course Cumberland would rather not be fronting the bill which is why they want you to use your checking account directly).

If all goes well and I'm able to make transactions smoothly I will update with more stars. The setup process is anything but smooth and quick though. Hopefully I'm not fumbling at the pump in the middle of New England winter just trying to save 10 cents on gas lol.

Another satisfied customer

Once my pay first came out it was an obvious choice. The reason why for me was because Cumberland farms were all over New England. So I knew that I would always get the cheapest gas wherever I was. I’ve heard lotta people use the excuse that they can’t be bothered setting it all up with their checking account and so on. But it was very easy to log in and create an account linking it to my checking account. Once that’s done, it’s as easy as using my own debit card. And to top it off, every time I use my SmartPay card I accumulate we Ward points that result in me receiving multiple free items such as coffee’s call me drinks and snacks. Another interesting feature of SmartRewards is that they track your savings. That way you can see the accumulation of your savings this but dissipating in the rewards program. I’ve already got almost $1000 in savings over the past five years. I can live with that maybe I’ll go on vacation with the extra money.

Best Gas/Convenience Store App

I cannot say enough about Cumberland Farms, SmartRewards , their gas, and the quality of the food/drink within their convenience stores. I drive several miles to get the cheapest (but quality) gas around. I’ve saved over $600 with SmartRewards over the several years I’ve had it. Their incentives, quality, and bonuses keep me coming back. At this time when gas prices are so high, Cumberland Farms is always competitively priced. Then there’s the ten cents off per gallon and additional incentives! Love, love, love Cumberland Farms and SmartRewards .
For those concerned about how SmartRewards works, I’ve had it just about since it started. Never had a problem or any breach of my personal information or bank account. It’s very safe. 👏🏼👍🏼 Keep up the good work Cumby’s!

SmartPay Review

I love the convenience of just pulling out my phone to pay and it’s great the receipt goes onto your phone so you don’t need to handle more paper. The only thing I would like to have though is a list of all the items you can buy that helps lower the price you pay for gas. I buy a variety of things from cigarettes, fountain drinks, milk, candy, BC powder, etc. But so far nothing has lowered the gas price anymore than the 10 cents that is already available. Is there such a list? If so please tell me where to find it. If not please make one and I will probably buy even more from your store. But I like my store (on the corner of Parton Drive and Palm Blvd). It’s always clean and the cashiers are polite and helpful.
