Make sure your features work if you offer them

This has got to be one of the worst app experiences I have ever had. First off, I will admit that in terms of security PeoplesUnitedBank is fairly secure, however this is to a fault. PeoplesUnitedBank ’s backend design gets bottlenecked in the morning to the point where it is essentially impossible to get PeoplesUnitedBank to start because the servers are over capacity. If you do get a chance to get to the main screen, good luck trying to login in with ease. On the iPhone, most (if not all) banking apps offer the secure and encrypted Face ID feature when signing in. With People’s United, even if you login in with your correct credentials and enable this feature, sadly you will be disappointed. The next time you open your app your Face ID and credentials are corrupt and therefore you must login in again. I cannot stress this more, if you are going to offer features for your user experience, please debug and make sure that they actually work before you release it. Extremely disappointed.

Underwhelming

The good:

I can deposit checks.
I can check my balance.

The bad:

No, I don’t have touch or Face ID turned on. Intentionally. Adamantly. Regardless, EVERY SINGLE TIME I log in to PeoplesUnitedBank it gives me a pop up warning that I don’t have them turned on. Dismissing the warning does not then take me to the home screen. Rather, it stays on the log in page, and I have to tap ‘continue’ again to get to the home screen. Unless PeoplesUnitedBank decides to take me to yet another ‘helpful’ tip page. If I’ve seen the tip once and dismissed it, DON’T SHOW IT TO ME AGAIN. Chances are I have opened your app to DO SOMETHING. YOU ARE GETTING IN MY WAY AND PREVENTING ME FROM DOING IT.

Likewise, I do not need a ‘helpful’ reminder that ‘Depositing checks is easy’ every time I click on Deposit. If I am depositing five checks in a session, I do not need this helpful tip with EVERY CHECK.

I don’t know. I’m not an app developer. Maybe there’s an ADA compliance rule that requires developing PeoplesUnitedBank for people with Korsakov’s syndrome.

Beyond that PeoplesUnitedBank isn’t useful for much. Largely that’s due to security requirements. I get it. Getting in the way is what banks do. My employer doesn’t pay me in cash. I can’t pay my bills in cash. The bank is helpfully there in the middle to collect fees as the money comes and goes. It’s what banks do. Why would using an app be any different?

Needs improvement

I am so disappointed in this application that I decided to leave a review. I am not sure who designed and tested PeoplesUnitedBank because it is not very reliable. Why do you offer Face ID if it doesn’t work? If you feel like it’s not secure enough then don’t offer it. It asks you log in every single time. Sometimes, it asks you to log in without presenting User Id and Password boxes. The only way to fix it is to delete PeoplesUnitedBank and install it again. It’s impossible to create recurring payment. One needs to log into their web site. Even that can be problematic. Pop up windows end up having buttons outside of mobile device screen, so there is no way to submit anything. Considering that most branches are closed due to outbreak and it can take you at least 30 minutes to get anyone to help you over then phone, I seriously question how much this bank is paying attention to online banking. This is going to be our future. Please fix it.

Good but one problem

Look, I understand overdraft fees exist and are in fine print somewhere. BUT, that being said I saw I accidentally overdrew my account. Within I believe 1-2 days I secured the funds and deposited them to make my bank account positive. Two days later I get hit with an OVERDRAFT FEE ANYWAYS. The fee was 37$. I’m a kid and I’m just about to go back to work and didn’t need to loose $37. How are you going to overdraft fee me when I quickly fixed the negative balance?! My local branch wouldn’t help me get the money back and I am upset by this experience. Did I cause that much trouble for you guys with my bank account being 6$ over drawn for one day? Really awful, but other than this I’ve had a good experience with PeoplesUnitedBank and this bank.

People's App is easy & convenient. I only miss one thing

I use the people's app regularly to balance my checkbook and deposit checks. The only thing I wish it would let me do is add comments to transactions. This is something that used to be available online, and for some reason is no longer. Its easy enough to see a check you deposited through PeoplesUnitedBank , because you can view the photo you took. However this feature saved me a lot of time trying to figure out what an over the counter deposit or withdrawal was for in the past, or even when I wanted to document what was purchased at a certain store. I really miss this feature and wish they would bring it back online, as well as add it to PeoplesUnitedBank . That would take it to 5 stars for me!

Nothing bad to say.

I love the People’s Bank App. It’s saves me a ton of time not having to go into my bank to transfer money and etc. It also allows me to keep a close eye on my funds by having the notifications within PeoplesUnitedBank alert me whenever any action is taken in my accounts. And the customer service I have received from both bank tellers and phone representatives have been kind, knowledgeable, and friendly. I am actually impressed. There’s usually SOMETHING I can complain about or find something wrong with, but honestly... I couldn’t think of anything bad to say in regards to People’s United Bank if I HAD to.

Disappointed …

I used to love the convenience of the People’s Bank app, but a few days ago, I went online to check my scheduled payments and they are no longer visible. Previously, a tap on “recent” would show recent payments by date and scheduled payments. If I so chose, I could change the payment date, amount or cancel the payment entirely from PeoplesUnitedBank no matter where I was. No PC required. Tapping on ‘recent’ now brings up a blank page. My call to Customer Service confirmed that indeed, that service was no longer available on PeoplesUnitedBank , but I could still make those changes on my computer. Totally inconvenient! Wasn’t that the idea of mobile banking .…being able to access all services? Sorry for the bad review for a bank that is so good in so many other ways, but this is definitely a step backwards.

New update

I Love the ability to be able to deposit my checks online through PeoplesUnitedBank instead of having to go to the bank direct. The only thing I am not liking is the way the camera is set up in order to take a picture of your checks to upload. I feel that the camera shutter button is on the wrong side and one holding my phone my fingers get in the way of the camera lens. I have used other Other banking apps and I feel some of them have much easier way to deposit the checks. I also feel that the step process to get the check uploaded through the iPhone has 1 to 2 many steps.

Exactly what a banking app should be

I have been using PeoplesUnitedBank since it first came out. Most of the negative reviews you see here stem from a brief period of time after they updated PeoplesUnitedBank where they obviously had some sort of bug which made it next to impossible to log in.

That has been totally resolved, and now what remains is an incredibly quick intuitive app that allows you to keep track of your finances easily, transfer funds instantly and also has mobile check deposit and fingerprint sign in for added security and ease of use. Honestly it's the perfect banking app.

Worst Bank Ever

It’s bad enough that this Covid-19 is still going but I have been out of a card for over two weeks. I ordered a card that took a week to come by mail. I activated the card but it declined when I swiped, used the chip, everything under the book, etc. I went to a branch to resolve the problem and told me to use the ATM to get cash and worked but the card still didn’t swipe. They have had no solution. All I was told was “At least I can pull cash”. I managed until recently when the ATM would let me take money out even though I have plenty of funds. I’m done with this bank because I need to order another card twice a year for “Fraud” (paying my rent was suspicious) and now this. I’m sick of having to change my card info on all my accounts for something that isn’t my fault. I transfer to a new bank. Final

Not yet entirely customer friendly

People’s was for many years ahead of the curve on technology. We could bank on push-button phones, as they were called back then. They are still ahead in not charging for services like making deposits on your phone. But now that we all have very powerful wee computers in our hands, they are lagging in a few areas.

First, when you go to Settings>Notifications on your iPhone to permit Notifications you cannot find Peoples in the list of your apps. It is not there. Or rather it is not called Peoples. It is called Banking. This is just colossally dumb and awkward. It’s not even wrong. The damned app is named Banking and the icon is a giant P. Every other bank app is called Citi, CapOne, Chase, etc., but there is no Peoples.

Second, it is no longer possible to add a memo to a payment. This is very useful and used to be possible. A brief comment solves the puzzle of payments that were not made by check when you’re scratching your head months later at tax time. Please bring it back!

For a bank that seems genuinely superior not to have a superior app for ebanking seems a pity. I hope they’ll fix it.

Great app but lately...

Every time I open PeoplesUnitedBank the last few weeks I get an error message. Hit retry and it brings me to the login where normally Face ID would log me in and bring me directly to my account home, but it doesn’t. So I enter my password then half the time I have verify my identity via text or email. Once I get through that I or if I don’t have to verify it goes directly to the tutorial like it’s the first time I’ve used PeoplesUnitedBank on this device. Skip or go through the tutorial, it doesn’t matter it still pops up every time, and I can use PeoplesUnitedBank normally and everything works as expected. I really like PeoplesUnitedBank but something has to be done about this login issue.

Good app when it works, getting worse over the years

I use PeoplesUnitedBank daily (or at least attempt to use it). Months ago changes were made to the way it displays checking items and does this odd scroll thing now, sort of refreshing transactions instead of just smoothly going through them.

Lately it randomly asks for passwords and needs two-factor authentication instead of simply using the Touch ID. Strange thing is after putting everything in it states that the application is temporarily unavailable. This is happening quite often lately. Perhaps the staff in charge of this application has changed hands? In any case, it is frustrating and I hope they get their act together soon with PeoplesUnitedBank.

Simple app no cool features

You can do all your basic stuff like make a deposit transfer between internal accounts but make sure you keep your mobile heck deposits because you can’t pull up the image. Same applies to deposits made at the bank. And for those internal transfers you can’t put any commentary so if you need to reconcile later on you might not remember what that transfer was for. Lastly you don’t see the difference between your available balance and what’s pending to be added to your available balance so not exactly sure how much I actually have.

Annoying

Whatever was updated now makes us have to delete PeoplesUnitedBank , re-download it, in order to manage multiple accounts. It never was like this so what used to take 5 min now took about 20 just to make a mobile deposit. If you don’t go through this process, and you have multiple peoples accounts, you can’t log in... it tells you the user doesn’t match and you can’t access your account. Also you have to shut the VPN to use PeoplesUnitedBank... the very thing protecting us from online fraud. Please fix this.

Not as good as it used to be

I used to be very satisfied with PeoplesUnitedBank about about a year ago. But I keep encountering problems with PeoplesUnitedBank . For example, PeoplesUnitedBank doesn't display transactions in real-time like it used to. Sometimes you see payments from the last few days pop up all at one today. Also, the Touch ID function is not operational on my iPhone. It asks me to authenticate my account with my password every time. It is good that People's United Bank provide this service, but it isn't as good as it could be.

Worst bank

PeoplesUnitedBank is slow and limited features, and Peoples United bank is the worst back to do business with. My father passed away and his business had a small amount of funds in the account. People’s United won’t release the funds to his Estate because they want a copy of the operating agreement signed by my father. But my father is not here anymore to provide that. Meanwhile they keep charging monthly fees until there won’t me anything left in the account. Think twice before opening an account with People’s United and if you have a business it’s not a business friendly bank. Just a group of disorganized people giving their customers a hard time. I don’t like PeoplesUnitedBank , very limited features and its slow and keeps freezing up. No stars.

It works, but not great

In my experience banks generally don’t have great web sites or apps (or tech in general) and People’s is no different. It gets the job done - you’ll be able to access your accounts and deposit checks. Yay! Look further and it will be difficult to ignore the flaws and unrefined details. Touch ID is supported and sometime it even works. When it doesn’t you’ll need to type your super secure password. Unfortunately, PeoplesUnitedBank doesn’t allow the password to be auto filled using Apple’s KeyChain access or other password managers such as 1Password from AgileBits. 2FA (two-factor Authentication) is not supported.

Hate this app

PeoplesUnitedBank hasn’t worked in two weeks for me and several members of my family. When it did work, it was super frustrating. For example, you can’t access any of your online documents/statements. And they just started charging $3 a month to send a statement, forcing me to go “paperless.” Can only access your statements via desktop or laptop.

Oh, and every month it says that I’ve entered my password incorrectly. Not true, I’ve entered it correctly, but they make my password invalid every 30 days and force me to go to my desktop and go through the whole “I forgot my password” and make up a new password.

Just hate PeoplesUnitedBank every time I use and even more frustrating that it doesn’t work and I can’t mobile deposit anything during the coronavirus lockdown.

Good People’s app

I’ve been using PeoplesUnitedBank since it became available. I use it mainly to deposit checks or to balance my checkbook. Occasionally I will pay bills and it would be very helpful to be able to add a note to the payment. I noticed one reviewer was very upset about the People’s app being shown as banking on the list of apps in settings and a P next to it. True PeoplesUnitedBank is listed as banking, but what else would it be? It’s not people. The P shown is the People’s logo with the red and blue under it. You can’t miss it. I don’t understand his problem with it.

Peoples United Bank MOBILE App

Been with this bank many years. Solid offering all around but their Mobile App is a little antiquated. The do not have a “running” total balance in any account so you can’t “balance” your transactions in the Mobile App. Only in online banking. Seriously? Also can’t view even the last 90 days statements. None. Again, online banking only. In this age of Mobile App banking, how a little Credit Union can offer these additional features and a large solid Regional Bank does not is shocking. Come on Peoples! I’ve been with you over 30 years. Don’t make me switch now!! 👍

Nice update

Ever since mobile banking came out, it’s been a lot less waiting in line. However, depositing checks last year wasn’t as easy as now. When you deposit your check it immediately asks you for approval, instead of making it another step. There have been a number of checks that I had to put through twice because it was a 2 step process. Thanks for making it 1 step, thus easier. Bank transfers to friends are also easy. Thank you

Horrible recent app update!

The most recent app update for iPhone made online deposits very difficult...if you’re a righty! Apparently everyone in the People’s tech department writes with their left hand. Since the update, when you take photo of the check you’re depositing, the camera is upside down if you hold your phone with the photo capture button on the right, which you would naturally do as a righty. When I went to report an issue with PeoplesUnitedBank , PeoplesUnitedBank brings me to a FAQ page for tech support, but gives no way to contact anyone to report a problem. I expect more from People’s!

Disappointed

I have been using PeoplesUnitedBank for a couple years now and have not had many problems before. Now I am unable to do mobile deposits or transfer money to my kids account when they need it. I have tried customer service and they have not been able to fix the problem and has been going on for over a week now. This is very frustrating and may have me go to a different bank. I have been with Peoples for almost 20 years now and I have been very loyal, even with their incredibly low interest on any type of savings/retirement account. I believe it’s time to move on for me.

This app works fine for 3 weeks and then the annoying authentication needed message. I remove and reinstall the app and have to do this 4 times before my user name and password is recognized. Android. It's a pia when I just want to get into my account

Bonnie Goldstein   2 years ago

Having the same complaint about the authentication! Very annoying!!! The feature is great when it works!

Judy   2 years ago

I'm having the same problem as Peter Marango, who posted on 6-13-2021. The fingerprint authorization works for a while, then stops. I get the same "authentication required" message as well. I also have an Android phone. This problem is really annoying...please fix it. I'm so tired of having to look up my password to use something that's supposed to be easier. I might as well use my computer.

Peter Marengo   2 years ago

About a month ago the fingerprint sign in stopped working on the People's United Bank mobile app (Android). My fingerprints are working perfectly on the same phone with every other app. PLEASE FIX THIS! I am SO sick of seeing the "Authentication Required" message when I try to use my fingerprint. And then I have to go through all the PITA text messages, secret codes etc. The whole reason I got the People's United Bank app in the first place is because the quick, secure fingerprint sign-in was advertised. Please fix it!
