About Orientate

Orientate”, is a Laterality Recognition Program that forms part of a Graded Motor Imagery, a rehabilitation program based on clinical trials to treat pain and movement problems.

Research shows the ability to identify Left and Right is slower and less accurate in people suffering from pain, and there is a direct link to the ability to correctly recognize Left and Right to the level of pain.

As part of a comprehensive rehabilitation program Orientate” will help to retrain the brain to see and recognize this missing hemisphere and aid the remapping of the brain.

Laterality recognition or Left / Right Discrimination are known to occur in stroke patients and patients with CRPS/RSD and phantom limb pain.

Orientate” laterality software provide images of hands and feet in different positions and postures, on nine levels, totalling over one thousand five hundred images.

Stroke patients may lose the ability to recognize a complete left or right hemisphere.

Orientate” has been developed to measure this ability, and help retrain the brain.

The ability to identify Left or Right is important for normal recovery.

Try for yourself the first three levels completely free.

Wish I’d never spent money on the recognise app!

This one is soooo much better - even telling me if I got something right or wrong - recognise doesn’t do that so I never knew how or when I wasn’t getting it and my results never improved - that recognise app is a scam for $5! It’s crazy how much better this one is and it’s free- I’ll have to tell my physical therapist to start recommending this one instead. Thank you so much!

COULD be a GREAT recognition app.

Part of my therapy for CRPS is to rework my brain recognizing right and left. Like every hour for 5 min or more. Orientate is great for that! Combination of hands and feet really give you a workout and out of 25 pictures, your given your score at the end and how long it took you to complete. Now for the parts then need fixed!

When you download the middle level for maybe $2, it only shows you paid on one device. Just iPhone, not iPad.

When you ask for your results to be emailed to you (I thought it would show my progress, maybe show how long Is been working on this), your kicked right off! Same when you ask for your progress at the bottom.

Could be great. Not there yet.

A good challenge

Don’t know if it helps my pain. Only tried the free level & got most of them right. Maybe it could help my dropfoot?

More Time

I think it would be great if you could change the time yourself. For example, I am learning to use my left wrist again. It is discouraging to not have enough time. I would love to decrease the time gradually -without getting discouraged. It is a wonderful app after I do my exercises.

Improving coordination

I have been really clumsy and dropping and breaking lots of things since my stroke. My physical therapist recommended Orientate to help me improve my awareness of my body in space. It’s a good challenge for me and I like that I can email myself the results and it keeps track and a progress chart.

I have been injured for the last 9 months, and my physical therapist suggested this app…

I have a nerve disorder and ig my brain has forgotten the difference between left and right, so Orientate is rewiring my brain so the pain will go away. Thank you this app!!

Kdawg

I am new to the game, but so far I have only done the free versions. It can be frustrating when I don’t see the whole hand especially the thumb in a picture.

This has helped me so much!

I have CRPS in both feet/legs and left hand. I thought the idea of Orientate was crazy. When I first started using it my pain went away. Now I use it once in awhile just to keep it away. Amazing.

Very unfair

Some of the hand positions show only parts of the fingers and none of the thumbs. Not enough time is given. It is so unfair that you lose confidence in it being worthy of any value. The unfairness is so great that it actually is a disincentive for the patient to even want to take it, not to mention what happens if you have one hand that is impaired and you can’t hold the device and select the answer at the same time.

Please add knees.

My pain is in my left knee. I have so much more trouble picking left or right correctly than with hands and feet. I have no trouble getting a perfect score. I think this graded motor imagery only works if you are focusing on your hurting body part.

By

discouraging

On some images the full hand is not visible and you are not given enough time to look at and study the image before it is marked wrong. I get frustrated as well as my heart rate starts to increase as if I'm going to have a panic attack due to this. Makes me discouraged as well as loose confidence and not want to use

Cannot adjust the speed so it is useless

Orientate would be great IF you could adjust the display speed. People who have had strokes generally don't think as swiftly as the average person, so if I cannot manually adjust the speed to suit the patient's cognition speed, then Orientate is basically useless to me. Too bad, because it looks very useful otherwise.

Additional mode suggestion

It would be helpful to be able to have a mode where you could pause ESP after making a wrong choice to study the hand or foot picture.
