I haven’t received any notifications for almost 6 months now from AP News. That was the whole reason I liked APNews, simple informative push notifs that kept me up to date on big news. Please fix this!! It’s not just me complaining either, it’s happening to my friends too.

As soon as you edit topics and hit done, it undoes all your changes. What a joke.

I like getting breaking AP headlines, but only for certain topics. I’m currently stuck getting a ton of sports headlines I don’t care about and I can’t turn them off. I couldn’t sign into my account so I had to delete APNews and create a new account. I keep trying to edit topics and it keeps adding in the topics I deleted. Super obnoxious.
Looks terrible on a ipad mini 6
2023-01-01
by Hollin De Pocket
It's AP news, which is usually a reliable source. Unfortunately the content looks horrible on an iPad Mini 6. Its difficult to read. Too much eye strain. Extremely small text in news sections or blocks. The same headlines are frequently repeated. The menu bar at the bottom is impossible to read, e.g., white text on a light gray background in dark mode. I don't use APNews much on iPad.
Biased News
2023-02-02
by Tedmarjr
AP news is biased against conservatives and gives Left a ‘pass’, as does all mainstream media. Example: 1. current open border situation is a disaster for the migrants and safety of our country. It stems from the political ambitions of the Left under the guise of ‘altruism’ and truth is hidden by media. Example 2. Our national debt is unsustainable and Left is moving country to brink of bankruptcy, a’la Greece. Yet, media gushes over Left agenda.
The below is still a problem! Also why does the list of related articles include a selection for the article one is reading? That’s ridiculous and confusing.
—-
APNews provides lots of the informative and well written content of the AP. But it’s still awkward to access the content and navigate through the obtrusive ads. Many of the articles are duplicated multiple times as one scrolls through the different sections. This is a waste of time and very annoying. On top of that, the ads, while necessary, are disguised as actual content. Yes, there’s an indicator but it’s still confusing sometimes. I expect better.

Wonderful App

by Chrisnhoney
I would like to begin this review by saying I believe this is a very nice app. I am in the process of relearning my life and learning to stratigically plan my priorities. As I am a thirty-three year old first time full-time college student, I was just recently promotoed to Production Supervisor with company I have been employed with for five years. With that, I am learning how to do properly research my materials and look for facts. To conclude my research, I have found that AP News is a credible source that I would thoroughly enjoy. I am also open to the outlet being my main source of news. I would like for APNews to have the widget option available. I have been attempting to create one, but I cannot locate any research for APNews to do so. Out side of the widget, I feel this is a great app and I reccomend this news source.

Loved the OLD app- Why change it?
2024-11-17
by Dacinlu
Everything that I liked about the old app was taken away.... Why??! I agree with most of the recent negative reviews - My feedback - 1) where is the ability to have a dark background for reading at night? 2) I loved having news separated into categories (I don’t need entertainment “news” mixed in with science, world etc) Similar to a newspaper divided into sections, I used to know where I would likely find a news item I was looking for 3) there is too much wasted space between news items, even when I request “fewer pictures” 4) I used to be able to add my local newspaper info and get local alerts. 5) I see little difference between “Top News” and “My News”.. same stuff put in whatever random order AP selects. PLEASE understand that the reason I am unhappy with the new app is that it is getting in the way of accessing the incredible reporting and timely news that I have come to count on the AP for! There are so many important, breaking news items that I have read about first in my AP app...it is the first place I look to see what is happening around the world. Please bring back the features we all loved in the old app, and keep the top-notch reporting. OK? Thanks.
Headline pictures are still too large, too few headlines
2024-11-17
by TadpoleOH
I just checked out the new app again, and it is still worse than the old app. It does not make sense to me that as we get bigger phones, app makers like AP seem to think they need to make the pictures even bigger. The whole idea of a bigger screen is to see more content, not just bigger content. They somehow think that more is to “enlarge” they pictures. As I have pointed out before, simply put, you can browse 7 headlines with images in the old app, but the new app only allows 2 to 3 headlines, below a 1/5th of the screen top header line count of articles. (Not to mention the new humongous advertisement as the 4th one; I would gladly accept an ad in the old 7 header format). Even with the images off (which I do not want to do), the new app only shows 4-5 headlines. I am glad the old app is still populating. I have noticed delays recently though when I rarely open the pictures that go with an article. So I wonder how much linger they will keep it running. They did stop posting the warning that APNews is going away soon. So maybe there is hope AP realizes the new app stinks and will keep the old interface.
Great But. . .

AP News is certainly the best news app that you can download for reliable news at a time when the news media is constantly under scrutiny. However, HOW does it make sense to anyone who runs APNews to have ads at the bottom of every article that move left to right up and down within the ad??? It is distracting to read an article and constantly see the bottom of the screen moving. I understand that the news business is difficult to make money on these days and that ads are necessary to continue business. But there has to be a better way to do this. Simply put an ad that doesn’t move at the bottom of the article. What you are doing is selling ads to upkeep your news service, but then driving away the readers who are there to read the news and can’t because Jiffy Lube bought an ad about oil changes?!?! I don’t think this is the vision behind allowing sponsors to purchase ads and needs to be fixed ASAP.
Just a bad app

by Refusinganickname
Let's start by pointing out the importance of fact based journalism in a free society and the long-standing respect the Associated Press has held (occasional bad writing and a few heavily biased stories not withstanding). This, however is a "Bad App." If we still had newspapers I'd roll it up and smack it across the nose with itself. First, there are no controls for notifications. If I don't follow football, I don't want to see notifications about it. If I followed celebrity news I wouldn't necessarily want to have my day interrupted by gossip. If it's not in my interested list, don't show it on my lock screen. Oh, and Top News does not override my extreme indifference to a topic. To be fair, no news app does this well, but I'm not reviewing them. Second, making the background of an ad a slightly different shade doesn't mark it as an ad, it highlights it. When skimming, the tiny, dark words marking an ad are ignored. What AP is doing us allowing companies to pay for fake news. Period. It's a disgrace and by definition reduces AP to a company where 1out of 10 stories is paid for corporate propaganda, except when it's a political group pushing an agenda. I was going to give APNews a 2nd star for the sake of the Associated Press, but I can't in good conscience give credit to an app that presents propaganda as news.
This used to be my ONLY, go-to App for News, especially when I refuse to watch “News” on the TV. I do this because “News” is no longer about facts but about “editorials,” “opinion,” and “interpretation” of facts, all designed around telling people (whichever side you are) what you want to hear, this making more people watch more often, which translates into ad revenue for them. Websites are worse, with constant pop-ups, ads “strategically” placed so that you can’t miss them, no matter how hard you try. Then APNews began with ads that look like stories, formatted the same way as a regular article. I thought that this was sleazy and stupid, but they aren’t forcing me to click those, so I let it pass. NOW, however, every time (I tried 8 separate times and it happened all 8 times) I open a story before I even get finished with the first “sentence-paragraph” I’m automatically transferred to APNews Store. I never clicked on ANYthing except the story itself. I’ve tested it, thinking that perhaps I “accidentally” touched something. Nope. AP now allows intrusive ads into their platform. All in the name of money. I get that they need it, that they rely on it. Everyone does. But exiting APNews entirely, interrupting the story for some stupid App that’s in no way related to the story I was interrupted from reading? This is getting out of hand.
My favorite source but...

Pro- I can access news wires in states I have connections to. Con- Story content on wires is limited and sometimes connected to websites that require me to visit a news organization’s website within APNews (for example The Boston Herald)and sometimes you can’t access this content at all without a paid subscription Pro- Top stories section has a variety of content that I want to read first, and a good range of topics Con- sometimes the most recent stories do not filter to the top so old content from yesterday might be ahead of something from today Pro- Breaking news alerts are quicker than anyone else Con- No stories or even just a brief description of the news alert is ever provided. You get a “story is too new” type message and it tells you to check back later-later could be over an hour where as other news organization apps will have already posted a story
I love APNews and it is my trusted news source. I am however getting frustrated with it freezing, crashing and still being frozen when I exit and renter it after several attempts. A lot of the stories you’ll be reading, you scroll down and it just completely freezes. Please fix this or I am going to delete you again. Your old app was much better in terms of content, navigation and stability (2 yrs ago).
Just one little tweak...

by Kjtvtraveler
Whenever people ask me what my favorite app is I always answer that it is the AP app. It is a productive way to pass the time. When I am waiting to board a plane, on the line at the post office, or lying in bed, I can catch up on all the top news. The new app is different and I don’t love all the changes since I was so comfortable with the former version. I can, however, accept change. The only thing that really bothers me is that in the former app, you could choose a dark background with lighter text. This seemed easier on my eyes, especially at night. The white background is harsher and I don’t think I will be using APNews for my news as much anymore. The only other thing that I would like to mention is that in an older version of the soon to be discontinued AP, the Sports topic could be sorted by individual sport. For example, you could choose Basketball and see only stories about that sport. It would be nice to be able to sort them again. Overall, I am a big fan but would love to see the return of the dark background.
Great New AP App
2024-11-17

This is a great new AP app. Think this one will be better than the old one. 5 Stars! And to anyone who says this is a new News site, you may be too young or just have been living under a rock! The AP has and always will be the regular source that your local news CNN FOX ABC NBC CBS news affiliates and partners and again your local news get all their news from the AP news wire. And yes they are well known for pictures and video that’s also where your local news get its news from. So don’t bash the Associated Press for the one who wrote such a horrible review about APNews no one made you download it and if you hate it so bad then delete it and just wait for your regular news site to bring you the same news that you can get 20 times faster than your local news does. This is a great app and for anyone in the news business knows that this is where the AP wire comes from and maybe speak up and let’s all support the AP!
It’s AP news ... from the AP ... uh, on the AP app

If you like AP news and have an iPhone which uses apps, then this is the AP news app for you. The search is over. It’s the AP, bringing together the power of being informed by AP news and the relevance of app technology, and best of all, it works, most of the time. Just be aware that sometimes it gets updated ... because apps sometimes update. And I don’t think they’re selling my information to anyone, but who knows? Any drawbacks are easily overshadowed by the convenient scrolling and tap-to-choose selection features, which use technology you may not know is already built into your Apple device. Not only are you enjoying AP news on your AP news app, but you are maximizing some of your iPhone’s most basic functions. Avoid fake news and get the AP news app, it’s just like Associated Press news, but in an app.
Back when I was on social media, I came across a graph rating most of the known media outlets in terms of quality of publications and respective bias to the left or right, what with “fake news” having become a household phrase. In the center-most column (indicating neutral bias) at the top of the quality chart was AP. I looked into what that was and it turns out it was the Associated Press. So I downloaded APNews, and sure enough the articles are high quality journalism, and due to the myriad sources from which the Associated Press acquires information for their articles, there is rarely if ever any interjected bias like there is in many other media outlets. I really like that they do a weekly fact-check of the actual “fake news” to keep readers well-informed of what news is real. The only other news sources that I would say come close to AP are Reuters, The Economist, and possibly USA Today. I don’t get my news from anywhere else now.
I wish everyone had this ap

I wish everyone had this ap. Pun intended. Accurate news, decent commentary pieces (when they publish them). Objective news, occasionally sparse. The weekly fact-checking feature was originally written with a tongue-in-cheek air, but has since developed a more appropriate serious tone. Only complaint is the ap updates news slower than internet (usually about ten minutes behind), so you’ve got to google breaking news or sit in front of the TV with a strainer. This is really not a complaint I guess, just human impatience interfacing with accurate print journalism. Overall this ap has greatly improved my understanding of the world and it takes less time to get the news than sifting through the noise on TV. I recommend pairing it with the Reuters ap.
Reliable Source of Vetted News
2024-11-17
by Caturah
AP is not a new startup. AP has been providing quality, vetted news for well over 20 years. They have no bias. They report the news truthfully. Media Outlets have primarily used them in the past. It is a wonderful thing to have access to all AP stories. Before APNews we were only able to read stories selected by the media outlets. Now it is all here in APNews and I am free to read ALL the news. I trust their accuracy in reporting unconditionally. No matter the format with which you get your news, We must have trusted journalists and editors of authentic news. These people wade through the “crap news” that some folks throw up against the wall to see if it sticks. These guys are the real deal. Our watchdogs and guardians of free speeeck.
My first visit of every day
2024-11-17
by Ginny C.
This is the first visit I make every morning to check the news. It is an excellent straightforward source of news. I also like the in depth stories that they do as well as the photography. Update: August 31, 2017 APNews is quitting on me this morning. This happened 3 times so far within about 10 minutes. I am unable to read some of the articles I wanted to read. This needs to be fixed. This is happening on my iPad. Update: Oct. 2, 2018. APNews quits on me when I am reading articles. I am persistent so open APNews up to continue reading. I have had to reopen APNews 6 times or more to read an article. It is frustrating and annoying. This is on my 4th generation iPad. Other apps on my iPad do not do this.
AP news. My favorite for fifty years!
2024-11-17
by Johnsaul
That’s not a mis-print. I’ve been an AP news fan since I was a child. How? you may reasonably ask. Simple. My family had radio stations. I was fond of two things. Sitting in control rooms watching and listening to DJ’s spin records. And I also enjoyed sitting in front of the AP wire (teletype machine) as it “chugged” out the news one typed consonant or vowel at a time ultimately telling a story of some happening close by or afar. I have recently downloaded APNews and I’m glad I did. There are professional journalists at AP. Pick stories. Pick sensationalism. Pick (choose to read) whatever content you’re searching for. Avoid talking heads and opinion driven content. APNews is very good. Stay in the middle of the road AP. DONT COMPROMISE!
This review is not about the content. All news is written from one world view or another and AP writes from their liberal slanting world view. The most important thing about any app is that it delivers content. I have tried tons of news apps and most of the others don’t deliver content without being cluttered by a multitude of advertisements. AP has ads, but they are positioned in less annoying positions and they do not have pop ups like CNN who pushes their own content via ads. CNN pushes their programming in ads; that's annoying. The second thing very noticeable at the AP app is the headlines of articles. They have far fewer tantalizing and sexually immodest headlines. On Fox News app for example, they tease with sexual innuendo in the headlines. We don’t need that when striving to practice personal holiness. I gave the AP app 5 stars because is delivers news and stays out of the way with ads, while aiming to keep the headlines, articles and photos modest.
