I want to be clear

I am like Medscape a lot, but there are some things that are holding me back from using it daily. In my previous review I mentioned that there was no way to send articles via text message and there was no way to save articles for later. A developer responded that there was a way to save articles for later, which is true except in certain circumstances. If you search for an article or click on any article after opening Medscape , you can save it for later. However, if you get push notification about a story that you might like and you click on it, it does not give you the option to save it for later. I would use Medscape much more frequently if these two features were in it. I currently almost don’t use it at all because I can’t share through text message. Other than that it’s a great resource and I hope it continues to improve in the future

Ads have become completely intrusive.

I used this app throughout medical school and it quickly became my go to resource. I’ve used essentially ever major medical app and this was hands down my favorite.

Now Medscape will not allow a section of text to be ad free. I’ll scroll down while reading and a new ad will insert itself between the text. This is exceptionally distracting and interrupts reading. Why can’t they just keep the ad banners down at the bottom? There is already one there anyway?

I probably will be uninstalling this app, which is very disheartening because I’ve been using it for so long. In their quest for ad space they have lost someone to advertise to, and I’ve lost a great resource. There’s no winners in this scenario. It was a good run while it lasted and I’ll always be appreciative towards Medscape , but I can no longer support it.

Medical Rotations Life Saver

As an MS-3 on the cusp of wrapping up my third year, I have to say this was my GO TO reference source for clinical rotations. A lot of people will say resources like UpToDate and Epocrates are the gold standards, and while they are incredible, neither possesses the ease of use, scope of information, or clinical tools that Medscape has. I have a paid subscription to those other sources through my school, but this is essentially the only reference I use and it’s completely free for anyone. I would 100% recommend Medscape to anyone and you better believe I won’t be without it next year, as a resident, or as an attending.

Very useful, but used to be better.

I often recommend that people use the Mayo Clinic site if they don’t have Sci/Med background, but I send them to this app if they do.

Unfortunately, both the website and Medscape are now harder to use than they used to be. It’s not that the information isn’t there, it’s that they’re forcing you to click to the next page and that makes hard too read and share.

It used to be possible to forward a chunk of text to people who needed information. But unless you want to make a career out of cut and paste, it’s quite difficult now.

This all gets back to the fundamental questions facing the business of medicine today; should an informed citizenry be a goal, or should profit?.

Having said all this, I do rely on this site, I just wish it had a little bit more accessible structure.

Information Up-To-Date and Easily Accessable

I had no issues while using Medscape and it is up to date on information. Additionally, Medscape is easily accessible and one can focus on specific areas that they are interested in. Medscape is especially helpful for those who do not have a health background because it explains several different areas that one may want to know.

Long Time Invaluable Resource

After 15 years as a Mental Health Clinically Designated Interventionist I returned to 4 years of Nursing school. Now, 10 years later, my professional focus has shifted but not my ‘go to’ resource! this app has remained an invaluable resource for both maintaining CEU as well as cogent and valuable contemporary research articles. Research presentations are so well vetted that they can be shared with colleagues as well as patient/clients. Thanks this app for being a long term friend

The this app App is a very informative and a great way to check and see images of medications to ensure your taking the correct medication and to see different images of medications from other pharmaceutical companies which are the same medications but look different in color, shape and markings on the medications to make sure your taking the exact same medications that are prescribed to you. Overall a great App

Ads make it very annoying!

I first downloaded this app when I was a medical student. I have used it many times in the past, but now I tend to open Medscape as a last resource. Why? Because of the annoying ads! I’m thinking about paying an uptodate subscription and say farewell to this app for good if they don’t remove the ads. We are medical professionals seeking information for the good of our patients, not to pass the time because we are bored. I hope that clarifies my disappointment and reminds you of the purpose of Medscape and any other source of medical information. At least come with a solution like an advertisement-free version that is not free...

Usefulness of the app has suffered greatly

1. Medscape has been valuable because of accurate and extensive information. But Medscape cannot be used efficiently with the presence of excessive and advertising.
2. Medscape presented valuable information quickly to both lay users and medical professionals. With the hands, Medscape seems unprofessional and could easily be taken by Lee persons as a website primarily intended to sell medical products. You have greatly cheapens Medscape .
3. If you need to monetize Medscape , then consider an ad free version that professionals in the interested lake people could pay a reasonable fee for as an in app purchase.

A must-have app; can be better

I am a medical student and I use this app on a daily basis; it’s the quickest and best way to look up or check medical terms. Lots of functionality. Great.
Please update Medscape to have multi-task and split-screen/overlay on iPadOS. It’s very important for me to simultaneously take notes or to have my reference book besides this app and see both. Also being able to have multiple windows is really useful.
Thanks

Recent updates

I have used this app since prior to 1998. I have taken advantage of the Ceu’s for several specialties I am involved with. Always satisfied. The update I was almost forced to to perform turned this site into a chaotic fiasco that prevented me from obtaining infomation by constantly changing the page into a whole page advertisement that blocked out the info I had needed as well as jugling constantly. I took app off my computer. I am attempting to replace app and will give it another try. Over 20 years without problems. Whats happened?

Best days are in the past

this app was once one of my favorite apps, so much information at the touch of a finger. Extremely informative and useful in the clinical setting. Now it has been plagiarized with nonstop adverts worse than any clickbait website online. It is literally impossible to get through one paragraph of an article, use one tool, read one recommendation without an ad appearing an replacing the text. I get the point of adverts, and I understand Medscape is free...but balance is something that so desperately needs to be established between advertisers and consumers. Until then...count me out.

The ADS! Hate it!

Edit: Still can’t deal with the ads, now it’s on the bottom of the green and five times randomly in the text. I don’t use this app as frequently as I used to but it still remains an annoyance. Once again, I’d pay for an ad free experience.

I love this app and I use it daily but I cannot deal with the ads anymore. They are intrusive and so irritating. I'll gladly pay a fee to use Medscape without the ads. It's taking me a lot longer to find the info I need in a hurry because of these adverts. Won't someone think of the healthcare professionals??

Repeat Crashes since recent update

Obviously excellent resource of concise medical information that is useful in my daily clinical practice. However, since the most recent update, Medscape repeatedly crashes when scrolling through an article. Needs prompt fixing.

A bit of bug maintenance overdue

I tapped on developer support instead of writing a review because reviews are sometimes unfair, but the link didn’t work. The reason I am trying to reach the developer is because the notifications are currently worthless. When you click them and it brings you to the this app app, it never brings you to the story/info from the notification. Those notifications are what interest the readers and remind that the this app app exists and they. have been broken for quite a while.

Used to be great

I have used this app for more than 10 years and always loved it. I have free UpToDate through work but kept this app as I preferred it. Past few months the ads have become so intrusive and so frequent that I can’t get the info I need. For example the pink horse of Tecfidera that now takes over the whole app every 5 seconds and makes Medscape crash. Won’t prescribe the med and preparing to dump this app. Annoying to allow any company to hijack your app and my time. SO DISAPPOINTING!!!!

Great resource haunted by ads

I’ve used this app for years as a supplement to UpToDate for quick reference, both as a student and a clinician, and it has been wonderful. Newer updates now have ads that pop up ad nauseam throughout scrolling of pages. Ads are fine generally, but now there are not only more ads than prior, the ‘popping up’ disrupts the scroll making referencing materials a legitimate pain. I don’t use Medscape much anymore for that reason.

Wonderful app...destroyed by ad barrage

I love Medscape, i have used it almost every day in clinical and hospital situations. It is updated daily and provides accurate information.

The only con to Medscape is the near constant barrage of ads when you are trying to actually read the wonderful information contained within.

Every time you scroll to read the next paragraph blam you are hit with another bit of advertisement for some medication...

Informative and easy to use

Has pretty much everything I need, from drug information, formulary (although seems incomplete for some drugs), to disease overview/treatment. Also very impressed that you can connect to dose calculator directly from drug dosing. I’m very glad that I found Medscape now that I don’t have free access to lexicomp or uptodate as a student.

Updated - fixed (Keeps crashing)

Normally I love Medscape, but since the last update it crashes every single time I try to open it. Even tried deleting and reinstalling but not change. They need to fix this update big.

Update: they fixed the bug! My #1 medical reference app again!

One suggestion

Great resource but I would like to make one suggestion: make the “save” feature available whenever you view an article. As it stands now if there is an article I’d like to save (after clicking on the link on the homepage for example) I have to go to search then News filter, type in the article name, then click on the article, and then the share icon in the top right hand corner is available to save to favorites. And if there’s a link in the article itself you have to repeat the whole process. It’s very time consuming so please change this feature. Thank you!

Our goto medical reference; prescribed and preferred by docs

Our doctor friend referred us to it many years ago. Then I set up an account. Since then I haven’t met a doc who doesn’t frequently refer to it and approve of it—not only for authoritative information but also (for docs, anyway) entertaining news. (I’m not sophisticated enough to get entertainment from obtuse medical journals. 🤓)

Anyway, it’s handy to be able to find anything and everything medical in one easy place. Now I can often know not only what but why.

People should stop whining!

I have used MANY apps and this is one of the best.
If there is subscription, people complaint. If there is Ad, people complaint. So how do they make money while you are making money by using Medscape ? C’mon people, nothing is free.
this app is great in a way to keep it free and accessible for all of you “health care professionals”. If you want subscriptions, buy lexicomp.
Message to the developers, thanks for making it an helpful app and Free. I am pretty sure alot of people dont mind the ads as long as it not too distracting.
