Best Astro image app ever

I’ve been using Apple products for 8 years and this is the first review I write as I’m impressed what it offers. The images are stunning and the user interface is clear. It even includes explanation of the picture. The developers thought of everything. I wouldn’t mind to pay a small fee to support the development.

Back to one of my favorite apps

Disappointed with the complete lack of response from the developer after reporting the previous version flat out failed to work with iOS12, but so glad they have now fixed AstronomyPictureoftheDay and are continuing to support the product.

This is the very best APOD app available with the most user friendly interface.

Love it, but lately it takes a while to load

I have the iPhone XR and in the past week it has been taking a while to load each photo and sometimes never loads it. I tried deleting it and re-downloading it, and powering my phone off and on, but nothing seems to work.

Truly amazing!

This is by far the best version of all of the other astronomy picture of the day apps. It has the best formatting, allows you to search through previous day’s pictures easily, and overall is the most enjoyable. Thank you for making AstronomyPictureoftheDay!

Pictures are day behind?

Love AstronomyPictureoftheDay but I notice since I got the update its a day behind on new photo. Only in gallery it shows current photo not today’s?

Finally!

This used to be one of my favorite apps. Now that it works again I look forward to using it every day again

This REALLY IS a "must have" astronomy/space app, BUT...

it's crashing right on startup on my iPad 2 since the latest app update was rolled out.

The complaints are legit. HOWEVER: THIS IS A TOP-NOTCH APP that's just gorgeous and informative! It's my favorite and I'm an astronomer with just about every other astronomy/space-related app available on my iPad 2.

I just want you potential downloaders to know it's NOT a bad app. There's a bug in the latest update that's causing all of the issues and I'm sure the developer is working to fix it. I put it on a friend's iPhone 3GS and it seems to work fine there. Maybe the problem is related to the newer iOS devices and how they process/handle images?

Don't give up on APOD! Just have some patience. Download it and install it. It's only a matter of time before the developer pushes a patch/update that gets it back to normal. TRUST ME ON THIS: You'll fall in love with it!

UPDATE 4/18! I just got word from the developer: a fixed update has been submitted and it's making its way through AstronomyPictureoftheDay approval process.

Great App, But...

Love the pix, but the much hyped new version has a big bug. The photo of the day no longer updates automatically. You have to go to the gallery to select it.

I tried to email the developer but the published email address is no good. Bad form guys!

Maybe an Apple Watch App?

I’ve been an APOD fan forever. AstronomyPictureoftheDay is top notch. An Apple Watch App would be a nice addition. All the best.

Beautiful breath taking pics

Tittle says it all. Each day AstronomyPictureoftheDay gives you a different photo related to Astronomy. The images are spectacular !!! Now, for those complaining that the images may be "too large", quit complaining! It's supposed to be that way! They are high resolution imges. If the were chopped to fit the iPhone screen then you would loose too much detail. Also, the other big plus is that AstronomyPictureoftheDay will allow you to copy the photo to your iPhone pictures folder, which u can later sync with your computer and use the Astronomy pics as wall paper or screen savers.

Have you guys tried that with a mediocre resolution picture? The coputer would stretch the image so that it fits your screen. That's what makes AstronomyPictureoftheDay a 5 star app. Great pictures each day, plus ability to save them in high resolution and ability to transfer to your mac or pc when synching.

Great App! Tons of cool pics!

This is a great app with tons of really cool pics! The pic on the preview page in AstronomyPictureoftheDay store does it no justice. I didn't want to stop looking as nearly every pic had me saying wow and saving to my phone. Pics save in good resolution for making wallpapers too!

Only negative is the annoying ads they placed close to the next buttons. If you click them it closes AstronomyPictureoftheDay . I understand they need to make $, but it is annoying none the less. Ads also take up valuable screen space as well. I would give it a 5 star if it didn't have ads!

Hopefully they will update without ads!

Nice App... However

It has always disappointed me that AstronomyPictureoftheDay loads the lower quality scaled down version of the image off the web site rather than the full sized image you get by clicking on the image in the page.

This doesn't matter so much on older devices like the iPhone 3GS or iPad 2 but is definitely noticeable on devices with retina displays.

Would be nice if there was at least an option to select which image is loaded. Like a quality selection.

It needs a fix, please.

I've been using AstronomyPictureoftheDay for about 5 years or so. I just wanted to write a review to advocate for another update, because there is a major problem for me right now. It crashes on my iPhone 5 (updated iOS) whenever I open it. I have been reading the other reviews about it's new user interface, ads, and inability to view pictures in landscape mode, but having been unable to access the whole app, I guess I have no say yet. Please fix AstronomyPictureoftheDay soon. Just for the record, I would also like to have ads removed without having to pay and to have landscape viewing. Otherwise, AstronomyPictureoftheDay is an excellent utility for viewing APOD.

I love it, but...

I looked at APOD every day, until a couple days ago when I updated my ipod touch. Now it simply returns me to the home screen as soon as it begins "loading image". I have a feeling APOD just needs an update, I see at least one other person having this issue, and since its free I'm not complaining. But I do hope they get it fixed soon because I LOVED it! The image clarity is amazing, subject matter is varied and interesting, and you can easily save any image you want!

APOD won’t open

I used to have APOD and I loved it so much! Sadly I had to delete all my apps. That was a long time ago but I’m just now re-downloading AstronomyPictureoftheDay . They might have made a new app or something but I know it was this version that I had. First of all the icon is the same and secondly (I don’t know what it’s called but) I had the blue cloud with the arrow (I always thought of it as the re-download button because it lets you re-download an app without paying or something). So I knew it was this APOD I had, but when I try to open AstronomyPictureoftheDay it immediately crashes. I open APOD and all I can see is either a black or white screen then it crashes a second later. I don’t know what’s causing this and I’m very disappointed.

Fix the white box!

I have the white box issue on my iPad 4th Gen and iPad Air 2 as mentioned in other reviews, and it's quite annoying. However, the white box is not actually empty, folks: the share/save buttons are still there, they are just also plain white. Tap in the box and you will see... It's just tough to guess where the correct button you are looking for is within the white square... but they do work! Still, this issue needs to be fixed!

Love this app

This is one of my favorite apps! The photographs are amazing and the information about each image is well written. It is technical but not over my head. My only complaint is that the links to further information are in dark blue. I have difficulty seeing them. The non linked text is white and very easy to see / read. Please consider trying other colors for the linked text. Thanks for a wonderful app!
