Cannot add a product

I would’ve liked to add my Rheem thermostat to RheemEcoNet but first it gives me a module connection error because it failed to ask for my network info and then on each second try it crashes when trying to connect to my Wi-Fi network. Never had such a difficult time. After three times trying I gave up. I may have to install a Honeywell thermostat instead if the company cannot put the right resources behind their products.

glitchy and unreliable

Update: I don’t know if it is RheemEcoNet or the water heater, but the schedule can’t be trusted. Today I noticed that the water heater setting was wrong and when I checked RheemEcoNet the schedule is turned off and everything defaulted back to eco mode and 120 degrees so now I have to reprogram the whole thing again. They really need to sort this thing out!

It’s nice to be able to configure it from your phone, but Often I have to set the schedule settings 3 or 4 times before they actually seem to save. It acts like it saves but if you exit and go back in it reverts to the old settings.

The Alexa integration is extremely weak - only On or off. No mode selection, no temp selection, so basically useless.

RheemEcoNet doesn’t show the current temp of the water, only what it is set to heat to! RheemEcoNet only lets you store 4 entries per day for the schedule which isn’t enough.

When set to heat pump the banner telling you to use eco mode which uses more energy covers the power on/off button in RheemEcoNet . The other icons showing what it is doing and current mode etc have the text cut off instead of wrapping the text.

App is garbage

New Rheem AC and Furnace that were installed work great but I have tried to connect this smart thermostat to this poorly made app over 30 times today and still can’t get it to connect to my Wi-Fi with out RheemEcoNet lagging out the connection. Both econet and the Rheem econet app are both equally poorly made and need major improvements… rather go back to my nest thermostat

App

Horrible app won't connect to thermostat even though I have a jet engine of a internet connection. Rhem produces a great furnace but frustrating I can't utilize all of its services especially when it was a selling feature. I'll need a water heater soon please don't have me look somewhere else.

Thank you

Is this the kids version?

We buy kilowatt hours not bar graphs. Maybe RheemEcoNet could give us a total instead of just a cartoon. Perhaps it doesn’t matter since we are only allowed a 40 degree control range. This is so embarrassing. We’ll just need to work harder to convince Rheem the customers are not idiots.

Water heater will not stay in away mode

I have experienced my water heater failing to stay in away mode switches to home randomly. Called support and was told a new version of RheemEcoNet has been released and will be notified when to update. Came to look and I have the latest version 4 months old no new APP release available. Also told they were unable to troubleshoot when I was no near the unit. Totally unacceptable help.
Very happy with the unit but RheemEcoNet is a PIA.

Good try, but not there yet!!

For the at least 2 months, the Rheem app has not worked correctly, for my Smart Thermostat.
An update was done last week? It seemed to partially fix a few problems in RheemEcoNet . BUT…..
1. The “HOME” screen never updates after a mode change.
2. The “Smart Thermostat” screen “Mode” and “Current” temperature never update after a change.
3. The “Change Mode” screen, the check mark never moves.
So, if you are in another part of the house, you can not rely on RheemEcoNet letting you know it the system mode has changed or not.
A big problem for my home, is my wife is disabled. She was able to control the “Smart Thermostat with “Google Home”. It used to work perfect for her, but for awhile now, “Google Home” cannot log into “EcoNet”. So what ever changes EcoNet has made, have been a big let down on the consumer end here. Being able to use RheemEcoNet , was a big selling point to purchase a Rheem HYVAC system, for my home.
The last few months have been a big letdown using your APP.

Horrible hybrid…. doesn’t work!!

Within one year and one week, this hot water heater, which was double the price of competitors, stopped working. No longer under warranty. Only reason I bought was that the pay back for hybrid would cover the difference (reduced electric bill). Problem with that is that it only made it one year. Now I am overpaying on electric.

Support is horrible. Knowledge of company on issues is horrible. Save yourself time and money and buy a competitors product.

Update broke features

A recent update must’ve broken the schedule feature because it no longer works. The “follow schedule” button doesn’t appear anymore, despite restarting the whole water heater, RheemEcoNet , my internet, login, etc. The schedule feature only has 4 time slots which can’t be removed. The schedule time selection doesn’t properly support 24hr time, as setting PM after choosing a time in the afternoon (which shows up as a morning time <12) will set the time slot to AM instead. Additionally, the heater no longer reports its water level correctly. This is on a new unit that was working fine recently. Please address these issues.

Failure

Last week RheemEcoNet kept switching the water heater to away, even though I was at home, as a consequence of which I had a day without hot water. This week I am away, have Geo fencing turned on, so RheemEcoNet should have turned the water heater off; it’s been on all week. Does it not occur to you people that when you get this number of one star reviews, you’re doing something wrong? something needs to be fixed? If I was the only person having a problem, I’d think maybe this is my fault, but it seems like nine out of 10 people have a problem.

Schedule not working

RheemEcoNet used to work great but with the latest update I can no longer use the schedule function. The follow schedule is set to off and I cannot toggle to follow a achedule. Plus I cannot make changes to the schedule (when I input changes RheemEcoNet loses my changes). I tried signing out, deleting RheemEcoNet and signing in again.

Can you release an update to fix the schedule functionality or let me know how to reset the schedule feature.

Worst setup experience ever

In today’s world setting up an app should be simple but this ream Econ net app is absolutely ridiculous. It keeps complaining my account already exists. My phone number already is attached to some other ID or my email is already set up I have never gotten logged in or have an account set up appropriatelywaste of my time. This is my second attempt in a one year period. Hoping they fix the problem and yet no it hasn’t. Sorry for rambling. I’m a little perturbed.

Useless App Whose Core Function Doesn’t Work

I bought a Rheem electric water heater in large part because they sold me on the ability to turn off my water heater remotely when I wasn’t there with Vacation Mode—a great way to save power when I’m gone in the winter. Guess what—it doesn’t actually work. You click the button or set dates for vacation and it either doesn’t register on their server or it automatically turns back on within 24 hours. I took up the issue with support a month ago and was given a false fix, took it up with them again and informed it was an app issue. That was almost a month ago and there’s still no fix. At what point does this become false advertising?

Terrible app, connectivity, controls

We’ve had this water heater for 9 months and are starting to regret it.

Issue #1: RheemEcoNet is awful. When you set up the schedule for heating water you often have to hit save twice before the schedule sets. Also, it’s not particularly intuitive.

Issue #2: RheemEcoNet kept reverting to “vacation” mode after we got back from vacation and tried to heat water. It would start heating water for 5 minutes then revert back to vacation mode. To fix this we had to delete the WiFi settings from the water heater itself, also delete the water heater from app, and then create a brand new WiFi name to connect the heater to— for some reason it wouldn’t connect to the old WiFi name. This fixed it, but nowhere in the manual did it give any guidance on troubleshooting this. We had to figure out on our own. Reviews say customer support is awful so we opted to fix ourselves than call support.

Issue #3: the heater doesn’t support 26 character passwords. This is the most basic security requirement. Bizarre

App is terrible in actual use

It seems superficially ok, but under the hood and with over a full year’s experience, a fail on important points. I would not buy or recommend a Rheem/Ruud heater in future with app as it now stands as a result. Issues:

1. Even just getting in, it does not sync w Apple’s password manager. So, one of two primary platforms is missed on that basic level.

2. App does not auto update, again on Apple side at least. Found a year later, I was a complete major generation behind. No notices, no in app way to update. And when you do, it loads new app and leaves prior version still there.

3. Almost useless in an owner/renter scenario. Does not even have concept of multiple users of a product in a combined account or other logical means.

4. Has settings for scheduled vacations—sort of buried to start. But, now I find those are separate from Home/Away setting. Why? Again in multiuser context, recipe for confusion.

I expect mediocrity from hole in wall app folk barely getting by as entrepreneurs. But not from a huge industrial co like this, with supposed leading heat pump water heater on market. App is a huge let down when used with some regularity, especially remote from heater and home, and multiuser owner and renter context. It complicates things, not makes them simpler in end.

App Schedule Doesn’t Work look at Recent Reviews!

The schedule never works. I have 2 water heaters and neither works. Always schedules a different temp than schedule. This has been an issue for a long time now but Rheem does not care. EcoNet will post a message below all these reviews pretending they are surprised saying they will pass along the info to their development team and giving you a useless 800 number to call. The only point of RheemEcoNet for the water heater is to set the temp and schedule and it doesn’t work. Super disappointing as the whole point of this water heater is to save electricity and it just doesn’t work and Rheem could care less. Such a simple, easy to execute concept that should have been easy for a moderately skilled team to program 15 years ago. Not sure how RheemEcoNet has over 4 stars. Look at the recent reviews not most helpful.

No interaction without internet

Love my heat pump water heater, but hate RheemEcoNet. I’m very confused why I can’t talk directly to the water heater from RheemEcoNet . My water heater is used “off grid”, and there’s no internet here without me tethering my phone.

And before anyone says the heater can talk to your phone, here’s what I see. Half the time on the connection step (which I have to do every time), there’s an error in connection. On the times the water heater is talking to my phone, it’s first ask is what wifi to connect to. As the only wifi near are my power inverters, I’m dead in the water using RheemEcoNet.

So unless you’re just mining data, why not just display the settings on the phone without an internet connection. Sure, I lose the ability to adjust the heater remotely, at least it beats cycling though “electric only” with the mode button on the heater itself.

DOES NOT WORK! Bugs! Minimal control of water heater.

App is extremely buggy and lacks basic information.

I cannot disable electrical element, wasting 0.72kW of energy every day (which is like having a small toaster on all the time). I tried every mode I can find, nothing turns it off.
The only function that does work is the water temp, but the lowest setting is 110F, I wish I could set it to 100F.

Also the Wi-Fi constantly drops. Half the time I check on it, its disconnected and takes multiple tried to reconnect. The panel absolutely must have a Ethernet connection.

When loading info screen blinks as if trying to give me an epileptic seizure.

Set it to Vacation, and it does not allow me to set to Home again.

Set it to Disable, and have to go to water heater to take it Off Disable.

The User Interface is very nice, pity it does not function as advertised.

So broken

RheemEcoNet isn’t even close to being sub-par. Latest update disconnected my thermostats and after hours of going thru the set up again, still not working. Yes, I’m very familiar with the process as I’ve had to do it so many times. I have home automation, camera, security systems all completely trouble free. Rheem is the only system with chronic issues. It’s 2023, I think they need to decide if the remote service via RheemEcoNet is a corporate priority or not. Certainly seem like a outdated company trying to do the minimum to say “we got that”, embarrassing.

Water Heater State Changes to Disabled for unknown reason

RheemEcoNet functionality is great except for an incredibly inconvenient bug. When adjusting the schedule or temperature for the heat pump water heater, the settings seems to reset to disabled for an unknown reason some time after the update. This then causes the water heater to be off and not pick up its normal schedule. That means a cold water surprise later. Please fix this bug.

UPDATE: RheemEcoNet seems to have a bug where off treated as the disabled state, when the two are actually different things. When the water heater is disabled it doesn’t run the schedule at all. If it’s off, it’s just not on at the moment, but the system is still enabled and responsive to the schedule.

Please fix!

Geofencing works only for one family member

Geofencing works only for one family member. Other family members that remain at home have to stay with no hot water. The entire concept of RheemEcoNet is ill.

Current usage graphs wrongly display

Current usage data points on graphs don’t align with dates. Previous usage datapoints do.
Obvious application fault.

Requires too much info

Requires you to hand over your entire life info just to create the account. You do not need to know my mobile or addresses, or even first and last name. With the security issues out there, why should I add my own data that’s not technically required to use the product. All you need is a username, password, and email. Nothing else.

Frustrated

RheemEcoNet doesn’t control the hot water heater, it has a mind of its own.

Hybrids in the middle of winter stink! Suppose to save energy. Heating has to work overtime. When I switch it to electric mode, it will switch back to hybrid mode on its own when it feels like it.

App won’t even let me keep on electric mode. Ready to junk it and get back to a normal hot water heater!

Scheduling unusable

I really don’t have an issue with RheemEcoNet , my issue is with the backend services for RheemEcoNet. I have setup a schedule multiple times to help conserve energy, however the water heater randomly chooses when to follow the schedule which leads to multiple cold morning showers. I suspect the schedule is not loaded into the EcoNet hardware on site, but instead are events coming from a cloud service. So when one of these events is missed, cold shower. I suspected perhaps bad WiFi could be a cause, I replaced the whole home WiFi, however the issue still persists even though the EcoNet has perfect WiFi signal. I purchased this water heater with EcoNet just for the scheduling ability. I no longer use this feature due to the lack of reliability. I would not recommend EcoNet.

Very erratic and unreliable

Set a schedule but the thermostat doesn’t respond. I’ve set the temp for 65 only to discover later that it is at 73. If you link with multiple devices nothing works correctly and commands or changes are ignored. I want to switch to Nest but it is not compatible with Raheem.

Water heater away function

Well I’m 8000 miles away from my home. In the last week my away status keeps getting flipped back to I’m home! Did you guys even test this? I had to disable the unit. I’m away 3 more weeks and can’t rely that the server maintains my settings. Extremely disappointing. So away and scheduling don’t work…why is this part of RheemEcoNet ? Consumer buy products based upon reliability of the product…this is false advertising and misleading to the consumers. Fix the functions or remove them! Oh…telling me to call support is meaningless when you are 8000 miles away! The canned replies you put in postings is a joke…one fits all doesn’t work in today’s world. Many of us travel..why do you think we bought a smart water heater? It’s just a dumb unit if the advertised functionality is non existent! Fix what you promised!

Can’t create account

Can’t create account because it won’t accept the REQUIRED input method for phone number. Tried to make an account online instead of through RheemEcoNet but couldn’t find anywhere that was possible.

Basic failure

The password for my wifi is longer than RheemEcoNet will accept. As such, I can’t even set my device up. At least not without making adjustments to a less secure and memorable password on every device my family owns. Great.

Why?

This release is as useless as the last one. Maybe more so because it won’t even let you login now. Just says there is an error in Cloud 2? And that’s it DOA.

Not much data, not much control.

Would be nice to see current and historical water temperatures/levels of available hot water.
The closest i’ve found to current temperature is to change the requested temperature and see if the result changes from ‘empty’ to 1/3, 2/3 or ‘full’.
Trying to be simple just makes it frustrating.

Language messaging around demand-response is also lacking—my utility did something preventing me from scheduling right now, but it’s unclear when or if I will be able to schedule: “ Your water heater schedule has been set by your utility for best energy savings. Any changes will be effective for 72 hours.”

As much marketing as functionality.

It is ridiculous to watch the bouncing red ball every time you open RheemEcoNet . It is aggravating to see “Add product” as the most prominent feature on the main display.

For a water heater product, the main display is a large dial of current temperature setting, with buttons for adjustment, and three boxes showing available hot water, status, and mode. The first is fairly meaningless, showing only three levels. I would much rather see the aggregate tank temperature. This screen uses way too much area for the dial. Similarly the status and mode could be shown in less space. I suggest that more meaningful metrics could be displayed here, such as estimate of run time.

At the main menu, I find the geofencing feature, that determines home/away status, difficult to set. I have doubts whether this functionality really works as suggested.

Overall RheemEcoNet is much easier to use that the control panel on the device, but there is abundant opportunity for improvement.

Stopped connecting after last update

I’ve been using RheemEcoNet for a few years and have you experienced its ups and downs. While it had been working well for a while, the most recent update seems to have killed the units connection to my WiFi and is not allowing the unit to re-connect, even though I have a strong signal. I even tried replacing the Econet unit with a new unit but am still unable to connect it to the WiFi.

As I said, RheemEcoNet has had its ups and downs over the years so I hope they get this issue resolved soon

Please fix. Update ruined app functionality.

It used to be that the mode selection feature had an “off” mode that kept the schedule running. At some point this changed and now when you use mode selection to select “off” it instead disables the water heater, which then disables any scheduled mode changes. This is a terrible mistake and eliminates needed functionality. If I want to shut off the water heater I now have to set an alarm to remember to enable the device again so that the schedule resumes.

Please fix ASAP. I need to be able to temporarily turn the water heater off without disabling future scheduled actions.

App worked until update. Water heater is also junk

I moved into a 3 year old home with an Rheem condenser/electric water heater. I connected RheemEcoNet and after 2 weeks began having issues with the water heater. First it was overheating errors then a frozen condenser. Fine, whatever I’ll use electric. EXCEPT the water heater doesn’t follow schedule and always switches back to condenser or the eco mode. Went out to my garage tonight and saw it was running on the condenser again, went to change it through RheemEcoNet and now I have no control over the water heater. Can’t change the modes, temperature shows it’s set at 0°. Luckily I was able to manually switch it to electric. I don’t know what to do with this thing anymore. I have a water heater that automatically switches to a mode that doesn’t work and an app that can’t control it. My final grievance with RheemEcoNet and hardware is that to even control it through RheemEcoNet requires the water heater to phone home to whatever servers are controlling it. I can’t just control it on my local network so now I have a smart device that has to be facing the internet rather than being able to block the internet/server connection on my end and connect to it through my VPN like all the rest of my devices.

Kludgy and not at all inuitive

To no small extent we bought the Rheem water heater because we like to travel and we thought Rheem’s app would provide us the means to manage the water heater remotely. It is hardly intuitive. Set to “I’m away” and the next day the WH is back on it’s schedule. Setting to vacation mode appears to be equally problematic. First of there is no clear indication what time zone to use when setting up a vacation, water heater’s, iOS’s or GMT? Let’s try the WH’s… well that didn’t work it’s back on schedule the next day. Also begin time and end time MUST be in the future! Why? If start time is already in the past who cares? Oh but RheemEcoNet does! And you have to convert to the WH’s time.

It might be useful to allow user’s to set the WH’s time zone.

Needs A LOT more time in the oven and some real world testing.

A poor mgmt app can make the user regret purchasing Rheem’s WH instead of the alternatives.

Meh

It can be handy but yet a pain. I don’t know if it was a software update or what but my entire schedule for heating was reset. So I had to set schedule all over again and now I cannot get the Follow Schedule to actually work. I select it and hit Save Schedule and then close app- come back later and Follow Schedule is unchecked again. I’ve tried multiple times and ways to no avail.

Wireless cell service not allowed

When trying to add hot water heater to RheemEcoNet it will not allow use of iPhone if you use wireless internet calling on your phone. V5 had no issues with this. My home has poor cell service and depends on internet calling so had to use the 192 method

Massively bugged out

Since the recent update, I was signed out of RheemEcoNet . I’ve tried signing in but it tells me my sign in info is incorrect, and when I try to change my password it tells me that both my email and phone number aren’t associated with an account, despite having both emails and text messages from Rheem as, yes, my phone number and email are both associated with the account as I was the one to set it up. I even tried to create a new account and it tells me when I write in my phone number to verify that “This phone number is already associated with an account.” So which is it? I don’t know what happened because RheemEcoNet was working just fine before the update, and it signed me out when I updated it the other day

Annoying to use

The opening animation is completely unnecessary, is too bright, and makes you wait to open the thermostat. There is no night/dark mode setting. The sync to the thermostat is laggy. Dont try to make the UI so fancy, keep it simple smooth and fast. Overall RheemEcoNet is functional, but is annoying to use for these reasons.

Why does Rheem create so many useless apps

Rheem’s new app functions same as the old one, only different is the UI. Instead of making a better app, it listed another app, Econet, which is exactly same as this one. The new one is still slow. It does not always work. I often have to try multiple time to make a change. Rheem makes good water heaters but RheemEcoNet is not so much.

Updated software and now doesn’t follow schedule

Updates have made changes so the schedule isn’t followed. There is STILL no ability to see what the current temperature is of the heater. Only what you set it to. Also I cannot see what I’m trying because it’s white and completely blank but I can see I’m trying something.

Home/away doesn’t work.

App UI has improved over the years but the “away” function doesn’t stick for more than a day.

Also after 5 years it hasn’t reminded me to replace the water heater anode. Maybe it’s still working and doesn’t need to be replaced.

Lastly, support is by phone only. No one has time for that.

Please Update This!

I like the heater but RheemEcoNet needs a rewrite. Needs 1) delete time wasting intro animation, 2) make it difficult to accidentally turn off the heater, 3) provide more accurate hot water levels (percentages), more detailed usage info/expert mode, 4) ability to import local kWh cost to calculate costs, 5) ability to export xml data.

A $1600 heater should have a good app!!!

NOT there yet.

I was recently on vacation and tried to set my new water heater to away mode several ways to find that NONE actually worked. Setting the vacation schedule did nothing. I tried to set the system to away and every morning the system went back to home.
I tried to use the geo and got the same results. 2000 miles from home and the water heater is switched back to home. One of the major reasons I purchased this water heater does not work as advertised.
So I guess I can be thankful that Rheem does not make security cameras. And that it does heat the water but I paid a high price for a system that just heats water!

Away settings don’t seem to do anything

Super odd. You would think you should be able To set the temperature when you put the water heater into away mode. It doesn’t seem to do anything. Also, there seems to be 3 or 4 versions of RheemEcoNet , but not sure they do anything differently.

Home / Away

Had the Geofence set to 2 miles to go to Away setting. And when I am 700 miles away it constantly changes back to Home, even when I tell it away. The purpose of this water heater was to not waste electricity when I am not there!!!!!!

Unable to create account

Account verification feature does not work via phone or email. Unable to use RheemEcoNet at all until this is fixed.

Smart water heater missing key features

Overall great heater, however missing smart features. I should be able to shut the water off remotely with the provided electronic water shut off. For example, if the kids run the water longer than 10 minutes, I should be able to shut it off or set a timer to shut off. It should be able to get a notification. This would add to the energy saving features while creating good habits.

Best UI to date; needs one fix

Love the massive overhaul of RheemEcoNet . With the previous UI, there was always a lot of room for improvement with every setting that was available. I no longer think that.

The only thing I’m noticing in this current version, is that the thermostat section in RheemEcoNet does not show the temperature of the house when the thermostat is off. It will show the humidity of the house, but not the temperature. This is very strange, and a bit annoying. Please change this.

Failure to function after power failure

I had RheemEcoNet set for vacation mode while gone from home. A power outage while I was gone knocked the heater off the vacation mode and I had to reset. There was no warning from RheemEcoNet this setting had changed prematurely. When I reset to vacation mode the time expired but the water heater did not come back on. I was unable to start from RheemEcoNet and had to manually start from the water heater.

There are definitely some issues with RheemEcoNet communication with the water heater. I not sure what good RheemEcoNet is if it can control the on and on via the web.

Clunky App

It took a while to get is setup. It kept saying it was disconnected despite connecting it multiple times. For some reason it takes a few minutes to show the connection. The schedule page is clunky. I set the day schedule and hit all the saves and when I go back and check,, the new schedule isn’t there. The energy saving mode warning banner is there all the time when you are in another mode. The only way to get rid of it is to go into energy saver mode. The compressor running status is cutoff in the status page. When displaying your usage, it Always defaults to show the previous. It should only go back when you toggle the switch. Overall it’s a decent app, but definitely could be better.

Need schedule improvements

Pretty good overall. Could you please add an ability to change the heat pump water heater operating mode in the schedule without changing the temperature? I have it running at 150F, and you can set it only through the control panel. If I use the schedule I’d be limited to 140F.

Heater Stuck in Vacation Mode

Prior to about a week ago, this was a very useful app for monitoring and adjusting my electric water heater while away from home. It properly tracked my location and ran the schedule. There were no issues with keeping a decent supply of hot water. In the last week, I have noticed a very specific issue that kept my water heater from heating water. Problem: The water heater is consistently set to vacation mode by the application. In the application it says I am away from the house even when I am in front of the Rheem unit. I will manually set the the unit to any available mode only for the unit to eventually send a command saying I am away and that the heater should transition to Vacation mode. Using the EcoNet app to turn on the unit using a mode change has the same effect. After about 5 minutes, RheemEcoNet defines my location as away and the heater goes into vacation/away mode. I believe that either your latest update has a bug regarding home/location tracking or iOS 17.4 and your app do not pass precise location correctly. To prevent this issue, I signed out of RheemEcoNet to stop all interaction between my phone and the Rheem unit. I have not seen issues as of yet but I also no longer have the “smart” features touted by Rheem and EcoNet.

Works but needs help

I like that I can create schedule for each day, but getting it to show up correctly after an update is a different story. Did the auto update on RheemEcoNet , and went to check the water temp and was disconnected from my WiFi. After a few attempts to connect it finally went through. Then my saved schedules were not saved anymore. Then I put the schedule back in and hit Save for it to not save. After 10 tries I gave up and just turned up the heat on the unit itself. After a few days it was actually running my schedule and let me save my schedule.

Ok app

I use this to turn off the loud compressor at night. For this reason it works fine. In the rewrite, please get rid of that super annoying red ball animation when RheemEcoNet opens. Aargh. The rest of RheemEcoNet is ok, not super intuitive in how to connect to home WiFi.

Suggestion for update

Love RheemEcoNet and for the most part the machine follows the schedule properly but I was wondering if you can make it so on the water heater dashboard screen we can see the entire words of the compressor status and mode of the water heater as well as whether or not the schedule is being followed. As of now the words get truncated with ellipses on my iphone 15. I would be happy to provide a screenshot. Thanks

good but could be better

love the usage graphs but the hourly graph sometimes appears to be inaccurate. This however is the most important one for people with a time-of-use rate.
also would like to to see tank temperature in RheemEcoNet .

Works reasonably well

I just set up a Rheem Hybrid Hot Water Heater on the Rheem EcoNet App. I like the layout and functionality of RheemEcoNet . However one key metric is missing. I can’t seem to find a current temperature of the the hot water tank. The temperature displayed is what the target temperature is. It would be nice to see the current temperature as well. Thanks for reading.

Needs temperature data

I like how RheemEcoNet allows me to define schedules. I’m also glad the graph display problem was finally fixed, although I’m not sure why it needed to be a new app instead of an update.

The biggest capability missing from RheemEcoNet is access to sensor data, which is essential to creating good schedules. The energy saving modes are not great about maintaining temp (I set at 125 and sometimes find the tank at 105!). I’d like to see the current sensor data plus graphs that track tank temperature over time (like with energy use). I hope to see that in the next update!

It’s ok

Very glitchy, I find that it will stop running the “schedule” that I have set it and I will have to redo that schedule to get it going again. I like being able to control it from a app but wish Rheem would put $ into RheemEcoNet to make it run better so it’s users can rely on it more.

Historical data issues

When I looked up data a few months ago, it only shows the first couple of weeks in any given month. It displays the previous months usage as dot graph OK, but the bar graph data for the current month only covers the 1st day thru about the 15th day, and is blank after that? Alan

Initially Wouldn’t Connect; Won’t Stay Connected

App connects iPhone to water heater, selects 2.4GHz network, allow as me to copy & paste the password, then times out while attempting to set up the connection. 2 days running, now.

Finally installed a bridge router with a dedicated 2.4 GHz network for this heater. It will connect now, but it keeps falling off the network.

Really Useful, But I Have a Suggestion

RheemEcoNet is really useful, and I find myself checking it more often than I probably should. With that said, it would be cool if there was an option to enter your per kWh rate so you could see cost on the fly instead of having to do math in your head/on a calculator.

Not bad

Yes, I hate the bouncing ball too, and in my HWH view, I have to scroll down to see the bottom icons. Here are my suggestions:
- I’d like to set my Home Screen so RheemEcoNet opens to the HWH page with the dial.
- I’d like to know how often the resistance heaters come on while in energy saver mode. I’d like to dial back my set temp until I start triggering the resistance heaters. If I can go from 140 to 130 always using the heat pump, it would be better
- I’d like to be able to download the usage data so I could see it better and do some meaningful analysis

UI update great (Not working as of 6/7/23)

I love the updated app. I was finally able to implement a schedule for my water heater. However, as of 6/7/23, RheemEcoNet has become unresponsive. It is still connected to my water heater, but any temperature change hangs RheemEcoNet , then returns to the current temperature. It also no longer follows the schedule and it does not respond to the enable/disable command. Again, app worked perfectly up until 6/7/23.

Did not know how or where else to submit a big report.

Total amount of problems.

This is very hard to connect to the WiFi. One can try for an hour and never get anywhere. The programming is just childish.

Not bad but still needs improvement

I’m using RheemEcoNet with an econet 800 thermostat and a rheem furnace with a heat pump. It has been decent but I’d like to see the following changes: (1) When specifying the schedule, there should be an option for minimum fan along with auto cool/heat. For example, it’s stuffy in the morning but the temp is ok. I want the fan to run from 6-8 am. If it’s too hot, I want the minimum fan setting to be overridden so the right amount of cooling can happen. This should be very easy to implement. (2) Vacation mode control from RheemEcoNet is broken. I set vacation from the thermostat and we left. I wanted to reduce the target cool temperature when a heat wave hit but I could change the settings from my phone. There should be complete control of vacation mode from the phone. (3) The weather data is not very useful. Display with expected temperatures throughout the day and evening. A couple of easy tweaks and this can start to rival the ecobee software.

Rheem EcoNet Thermostat

RheemEcoNet work well but the thermostat rarely has the correct temperature. It does about twice a week. Spoke to Rheem support. Had me try a bunch of things that did not help. Spoke to supervisor. That’s all they can do! I have to call my HVAC installer and have them contact the distributor.. Rheem simply does not support this thermostat! They want you to pay an HVAC Contractor to do what they should do AT NO COST. Rheem rating F minus!

Econet update February 2024

I received an email from Rheem about a new version of Econet (Feb 24,2023). As the previous version was so very very bad, I wanted the update. The previous version would no longer connect to the internet for probably the last year, no matter how many times attempted. I was disgusted that I had paid a premium price for the water heater but the connected features were non-functional.

I went through the recommended removal of the old app and loaded the new. The internet connected the first time, and has been flawless since. My only reservation is that the original app worked at installation, but seemed to deteriorate over time (faulty bug fixes?)

In any event, this has been an improvement, but I won’t be completely satisfied until I see good operation over an extended period of time.

The original app was so bad. The new app seems to indicate substantially improved product verification. Please keep this in mind for all future updates.

2 versions of the app…

Apparently there are 2 versions of RheemEcoNet available in the Apple marketplace? I started with the one that had the most recent reviews, which was the wrong choice… no wonder I couldn’t get it to connect! Make sure you select the one with the Rheem logo, not the tri-color circle… Minus 1 star for wasting a day with an obsolete version.

Overall, the UI seems to work well, but some things are unintuitive- I.e. hitting the left arrow in one of the hamburger menus takes you back to the main screen, rather than the previous submenu.

Suggestion for upgrade

I really like the upgraded app. I agree the bouncy splash screen is not essential. My suggestion is this: I find that the server sometimes loses communication briefly with RheemEcoNet and my water heater. The only way I learn that there has been an “error” is to open RheemEcoNet and see the little warning icon in the corner. Despite having RheemEcoNet on my Home Screen, I have no visual way of knowing that something needs attention. My suggestion would be that maybe you could add a little red “pip” on RheemEcoNet icon when something needs to be reviewed (similar to when you gets text message alert). If RheemEcoNet icon would alert me, I could refresh the communication link or whatever needs attention. Otherwise, it is just luck if I see the issue or if I happen to walk by the water heater and see the communication module flashing. Please consider some type of visual or notification alert when RheemEcoNet has something to tell us. Thanks for listening.

Great way to watch over water heater when away

I like being able to keep an eye on things when I can’t be there and just have a little piece of mind that everything is good.

Doesn’t follow schedule

First - there was no notification that we needed to switch from the old app to this one. Googled why the old one stopped working & downloaded this newer version. After setting it up & connecting to my hot water heater it won’t follow the schedule. I keep clicking the button to turn schedule on & save. Exit & go back in. Schedule is turned off. RheemEcoNet is basically useless.

Update: I am very impressed with Rheem’s customer service and that they responded to my complaint. RheemEcoNet is now working properly & I have changed my rating on this review.

More data / remote diagnostics please

For diagnostics, and technical curiosity, It would be handy if the other telemetry available on the water heater display would come across on RheemEcoNet .

Perhaps a separate telemetry page? With history trends by hour etc?

I have a geothermal HVAC system w “desuperheater,” and hot water recirculating system.

It has taken some time to figure out how the various systems (and their software) were fighting each other.

Truly a first world problem!

Better than previous app

Like others I find RheemEcoNet better than the previous app. It is more reliable keeping connected, particularly after power outages, which we experience several times a year. The interface is clean and clear though the bouncing red ball splash screen is super annoying. I agree that knowing the temp of each sensor would be useful. I too find that actual temp when I lower the temp at night is much lower than the setting. My hot water circulating system has two temp sensors, one at exit from the tank, one at entry. It circulates on a schedule until the two temperatures are within set range. So I know precisely how hot the water is coming out of the tank.

My only other beef isn’t with RheemEcoNet but the Rheem heat pump water heater itself. If RheemEcoNet could much it quieter I’d be a happy camper.

Is it possible to have water heater top sensor temperature.

Sorry to say RheemEcoNet is a little wonky. I don’t have many problems and actually it saved me a lot of money last year while I was on vacation, a water pipe froze and flooded my house. I saw on RheemEcoNet that electric usage had skyrocketed to 20 times normal and I had someone shut off the water. I too have the graph problem. Is it possible to have the current hot water temperature displayed on RheemEcoNet . The water heater has upper and lower sensor temps, it would be nice to get up in the morning while still in bed and know there is hot water. I could go to my basement and check, but why have technology.

Latest version changes Celsius to Fahrenheit

I have our water heater set to Celsius, 49C

This latest version of RheemEcoNet , twice now, has changed the reading to 120F.

Schedule not working

I was pretty happy at first but after a few weeks it stopped following my schedule. Now I have to manually adjust the settings instead of it following an automated, programmed schedule.

Update: the issue was quickly resolved after my initial review. I’m back to being happy again :)

Removal of control

Thank you, RheemEcoNet has been fixed, it looks and works better than the previous version. Sorry you had such a messed up rollout. Glade it got resolved

(Why on the new app can i not select and change water temp and method of heating? Now i need to make all changes on the heater directly effectively this means the hear pump is defunt and i have a full electric heater only that generally will be heated higher than needs be. Sigh. Rheem fail)
