Great but limited, offer more free activities pleasee

When I first used this it was great. The articles they offered and the activities were insightful and helped me realize a few things that i need to work on myself without making me feel bad about myself. It also let me do reflections on any event and what I can work on. But I feel that the reflections part needs a place that I can add any notes to the event or things that were successful for me. I also feel that Ahead does a great job in recognizing in areas that i need to develop but it doesnt give me clear way on how to do it without having to pay money. Ahead helps in recognizing what you need to develop, but Ahead gives general areas of improvement that seem too general to be useful. They show case other activities but you cant look at them without paying the money for activities or other features (which is understandable). In general once you finish the three(?) free activities, you need to pay for more. The only thing left that you can really do it document events that made you angry and it gives a general list of things to do for future anger.

Pretty cute little app to help teach good behavior

I found Ahead very helpful, I’m working on being less reactive and changing my communication style/identifying my feelings all at once so I thought this would help bc someone not being able to name a feeling leads to frustration and anger. I love the cited quotes and works presented here and the helpful tips being kept in the toolkit. There’s a ton of room to improve though. A simple thing like push notifications that state your calm-down habits would be one. Second quiz me on my toolkit items or even what I just learned in a section or chapter helps to reinforce the learned information, especially for me-types who are very “if I can’t see it it does not exist” to change a behavior I have to practice it but to change it I need to remember it! Also I’d love to see easier ways to plug in “reaction moments” I know it’s there but it’s too many clicks to find and enter how I responded to a specific moment. Small, but dislike how the progress button changes when you’ve filled in a blank and want to move to the next screen. I’ve really enjoyed the sweet ui and characters.

Ahead has made a positive impact on my life

There are very few apps that have made a positive impact on my life. this app is one of them. What surprised me about this app was the significant change I saw in myself just after the first week of exercises and reflections. I saw an immediate decrease in moments of anger. And I was quickly able to understand and identify my trigger emotions, like feeling neglected or unsupported. Ahead has taught me a lot about myself through insightful exercises and reflections, as well as quizzing my partner, sibling, and closest friends. I love how Ahead always opens with a quick breathing exercise, playful and beautiful illustrations, and friendly language. I recently completed my first journey to manage angry emotions better and just started a journey to improve my focus. I would love a journey to help with anxiety and depression. I’ve run into a few bugs along the way, but their support team is the best of the best. If you run into any trouble, reach out to them!

A Step Ahead of Other Apps!

I just started using a free trial of Ahead, but noticed a glitch where I would end up with a blank screen at the end of lesson where a recap should have been. I really wanted to get the most out of Ahead, but I was worried that the bug was going to keep that from happening. I reached out to support to notify them of the bug and see if it was something that could fix before my trial ended. I’m not gonna lie, I was VERY surprised that I received a response—and it didn’t seem like some automated reply, either! They addressed the bug and noted that it would be fixed in the next update. Their customer support alone made me comfortably invest in this app over other behavior modification or mindfulness apps. I’m still exploring all of the resources this app has to offer, but so far it has helped me work through a very stressful and angsty few weeks!

This is the start of a really great app, however...

I have been using Ahead for a couple of days now, so my impression of it might change. The strategies are valid, the works they cite are interesting, and the way activities are set up they let you identify triggers, responses, and consequences. It's nice for acute anger outbursts where you yell at someone for 30 minutes and then feel better after some cooldown, but if your anger is "low and slow" you're pretty much out of luck. Ahead assumes that anger comes with screaming, hitting, or breaking things, but that is often not the case. I don't regret actions that come out of anger for me, I don't even take action! The issue is that I lay in bed and scroll instagram to avoid the angering things in my life, not that I yell at my mother to do the dishes because I lost in fortnite. Please add features that help with chronic anger and resolving the grudges you hold against people who wrong you. Anger as a reaction to things that affect you for years can't be solved with "take a deep breath and think about how your actions now will impact your relationship with this person."

This app is life-changing

Honestly, the reflection tool on Ahead has truly been life-changing for me. It has helped my kids work through anxieties and big emotions. It has helped me better understand the people closest to me and how I can better relate to them and understand their feelings. It has helped me be better at recognizing my own feelings and helping me be kinder to myself. I cannot recommend Ahead enough. There are some distracting elements on Ahead that take away from the benefits. But if you jump in and go right to the reflection tool to assess emotions, it’s almost like you have a therapist or life coach in your pocket. But even better because you’re learning to work through your own emotions rather than relying on someone else to tell you how to work through them.

SO GRATEFUL THIS EXISTS!!!

I’m diagnosed bipolar and today our couples therapist told me to work on regulating my emotions this week by identifying triggers and saying out loud when I’m disregulated. Finding Ahead is an absolute goldmine! Can’t believe something like this exists I’m SO GRATEFUL!!! 😭😭😭 Love the cute style of it and the simplified tools that also reward taking action! I’m a huge mental health advocate and a certified life coach, and so much of what Ahead suggests is in line with what I’ve learned from therapy and various self development groups over the years in a great little package! Thank you so much for making this, definitely committed to keep up with it to see the results of taking small actionable steps each day toward increased self awareness and inner peace!! 😎🦋✌️

Great App

I have been using Ahead for a little over a week now and I absolutely love it! Usually I struggle with keeping the momentum on apps like this because they are time consuming and boring, but Ahead makes things super quick and easy. Within 5 minutes I can learn new strategies, plus it incorporates fun little elements to keep your attention! They reward those who use Ahead regularly with perks as well, a reward system that in turn motivates me to use Ahead more. I highly recommend trying Ahead out if you’re looking for something to help you manage your frustrations!

Not awesome

Reason number one why I gave it a three star is because it was mini reading and no one likes his reading reading reading for about 30 minutes a day or even an hour second reason is because when I do read it just tell me oh you have to say that oh you have to know what to do oh you need to have something to calm yourself down earth like something to hope you realize that you’re doing something when you might not even know it so that’s my second reason in my third reason is because it’s not even like that fun you would think it be like old pictures and blah blah blah but it’s not it’s just reading and telling you what to do when if you’re upset you don’t just want someone telling you all you have to do this and you have to do that or else something.

Taurus with traumas

Wow. This tool gives you so many useful tools. I’ve struggled with anger my WHOLE LIFE! I’m 35 and I can say without a doubt Ahead is worth every cent. Please consider giving it a try if you have rage issues that just come on or anger issues you know you need help managing. Ahead is a game changer. It’s unfortunate that there’s not a cheaper plan for those who can’t afford the subscription costs. This could really help so many like myself!!! Trust the process *open Ahead daily* or when you’re feeling triggered. ♥️ sending healing. We got this🤬😆☺️☺️

Emotion Management at your fingertips

I’m happy with Ahead and finished their first path on anger.

In my twenties, I experienced episodes of rage and wish I could apply the wisdom I’ve learned from Ahead to those situations. I’m grateful to the developers and support team for their work.

The snapping out techniques - namely taking a breath and imagining a stop sign - and the staring down technique of spotting thoughts and behaviors have all proven useful in helping me identify and calm the rise of anger, which has led me to respond to situations with clear and rational thought. I would say that the refocusing technique of exercise is most useful, but it has constraints (i.e. I can’t exercise when I’m working, although I can modify the technique by stretching or going for a walk).

I revisit the exercises daily and look forward to seeing updates and new paths on other core emotions such as fear, shame, contempt, and joy.

yes!

I just happened to stumble across Ahead and its really been a great experience. There is a pro option where you pay for it, however Ahead is still usable and helpful if you continue down the free path. It’s cute, easy to use, and perfectly allows for mindfulness when it comes to managing anger and other emotions of that variety. Totally recommend to anyone— you don’t just need to have “anger issues” because it can be good and helpful for everyone.

Game changer

I tried for years to find something to help my teen understand her emotions and reduce angry outbursts, particularly during high pressure athletic competitions. With this app we’re finally finding success. She enjoys Ahead and is amazed at how accurately it describes her triggers, and the tools are working! By using this app myself we’re able to talk about it together, and I find it’s helping me with my own anger issues. I’m so grateful for Ahead!

By

It deserves ZERO

I wanted this to work so badly. I emailed twice regarding the glitches I had, responded TWICE with “yes” to the email “Duncan” sent me twice with no response, no introductory video, nothing. To be honest, my triggers for my anger lie within technology, so the fact Ahead supposed to work with my anger or whatever doesn’t even work just makes my life worse. Save your money these people do not care at all.

By

Better than any therapy I could imagine

You are helping me at a time in my life when the pressure is on and the stakes are high. I needed Ahead more than you could ever imagine. For once in my life, I have hope that I can control my reactions. It is due to this daily practice. It comes back! I adjusted tense muscles in a meeting the other day, which kept it on a level. Thank you.

By

Fantastic App!

Ahead has been very helpful and insightful for me. It makes the topic fun and has small doable lessens to teach you usable tips and tricks. I also appreciate the company behind Ahead . I was having some random glitches and they were extremely responsive in helping me fix them and followed through to make sure the issues were resolved.

Such an amazing resource!

I’m fairly new to Ahead and exploring my anger but in the past few days I have learned so much useful and practical information that’s very manageable and easy to implement! I recommend Ahead to 2 friends already and I will continue to do so. And as a mental health professional myself, I will also recommend Ahead to my clients as well!

By

Love this

I have been struggling with anger and negativity for a few years (possibly longer without realizing it). this app is really bringing things to light and it’s so nice that it’s all in bite size pieces, making the information easy to digest. It’s only been three days and I’ve already learned so much about myself and some tools to help me.

By

BUYER BEWARE!

I downloaded the free trial of Ahead and was told Ahead would notify me before they charged my account. I set the notifications to on to make sure I wouldn’t get charged if I didn’t love Ahead , as it’s an $80 charge. Ahead didn’t notify me once, instead emails were sent that all ended up in my spam folder and i was charged the $80. I’m aware this is partially my fault for not setting my own reminder, but I trusted Ahead when it said it would notify me. Be careful. They cannot refund so you’ll have to go through Apple/your bank if this happens.

By

Glitchy

I really wanted this to work, because when it was working, it was great. But techniques would not save to my tool kit even after doing the same exercise multiple times, and more than once I was unable to do anything because Ahead would not load activities and I would get an error message. Or it would just lock up on my screen. I hope the developers can work out the bugs; maybe I’ll come back in a few months to try again.

By

Very effective

In my years of trying to control my reaction to anger, using Ahead has been the most effective tool I’ve come across. I can’t say for certain why, but I assume that the daily commitment (which Ahead makes easy to do) keeps my goals always on my mind. Ahead also provides a good balance of understandable scientific reasons for my anger and effective techniques to address my reactions in the moment.

By

Worth the money for the tool

It’s been helping me to better recognize my when I get upset and angry. It offers good advice on how to deal with different aspects of anger. I think I’m doing a little better. I don’t think it’s an over night solution thing. You need to practice. If you commit to using the tool, you can help find trends in your day to understand the feelings of getting angry. It helps me not go into autopilot and to decide if it’s worth getting upset over. I am learning that most things aren’t worth the energy.

By

Hard to believe mental health professionals made this

It helped at first, and I’m still going to use it as $70 is an outrageous amount of money, especially for modules that are a couple of minutes long. Besides counting and breathing the main technique it gets you to use is to think about how absurd your emotions are and how “silly” it would be to be upset. Every therapist I’ve had speaks on how invalidating your emotions gets you know where. They also use a lot of humor which I usually love but their’s doesn’t read well at all and is hella awkward. I really like the module on procrastination. But the anger one is eh. Some more techniques and assessments would be helpful. And I like the blob guy that helps you along with it!

By

A bit money-grubby

Seems like you’re just trying to make money, rather than help people be better. The plan it tries to set you for (you have to purposefully choose a different one) is a 7 day free trial, followed by a $60 yearly charge. I can’t afford any sort of mental help. So to see this listed as free, then just to see that they actually would try to sneak a 60 dollar charge, made me really sad. It confirmed for me that most times when people say they wanna help, they’re thinking of themselves. Shame. Still rated three stars, it seems people like the program, but I can’t afford it.

What is Ahead

this app is an app that helps keep me mentally focused on conflict resolution. It breaks down anger and where it originates from, it helps me identify where this anger comes from, and it helps me with each type of stressor I identify as acknowledging being present in each of my own situations. this app also tells me how to think differently about the feelings I’ve marked as present and might give me tips on how to overcome the feelings I get when I feel stressed.

By

Better than I thought

The this app app has been a reassuring companion. Its user-friendly design and Duolingo-inspired approach gently guide you. Ahead is like a Swiss Army knife for emotions, offering validating, empathetic, and encouraging lesson prompts.

The Toolkit adapts these lessons to your needs, while the community section lets you connect with others. It's a supportive tool for navigating emotional challenges and building better relationships.

Understanding your feelings is the first step forward getting this app of difficult feelings, conversations and relationships.

A+ I really enjoy it

I’ve been using this app for 3 weeks now and almost immediately noticed a lot of changes in my behavior, I’ve been a lot more aware of myself and why i get angry like i was, as I progress though these lessons all questions I’ve had have been answered as I was going though them, very through and they make the lessons short and fun. I’ve recommended this app to quite a few people already and will continue to. A+ thanks for helping me regain control of myself.

Life changing

Ahead has changed my life. I’ve had such a problem with unhealthy expressions of anger and just being overall angry all the time—secondary to feeling stressed, anxious and overwhelmed. I had gotten myself to a very low place, came upon Ahead and made the full purchase—praying anything could help me. The tools, daily programs and reminders have been life changing and mind altering. If you’re even remotely considering it—do it!

Make your punches count!

I often am reminded I still fall short. And yelling is a downfall of mine. However Ahead is tremendously helpful at giving my daily tools-spend 5-15 minutes a day in organized classes and levels-take quizzes it’s all off your phone and type in what you did wrong while Ahead generates helping you pinpoint practical tools to apply next go around. I really really love Ahead. I’m way more aware of what my response ought to be and I’m noticing it before it’s to late. My turn around times are much quicker now too. The word needs to spread about Ahead because it helps…

Good App, some improvements would make it even better

Hi, I love your app, it’s very helpful. I have only one question - if you to consider to make check-in procedure maximally simple. I mean two things: 1) Add one direct button to add checkin, in one click, instead of two as of now 2) customize these daily questions, because know i want to add the reflection instantly, right now, and instead of that i must to click 10 times to get rid of offer to answer some completely not actual daily or whatever question. and it makes me 2x more angry. in the rest, i love your app. thank you!

Trial period mishap with no refund

I wish I could rate Ahead higher. Ahead itself is great - but the company policies really turned me off of it. I tried to update my trial to a monthly trial on Ahead - and on my iPhone it showed that it went through. It came the day of the end of the trial and company billed me for the year trial, even though I had been told that my trial had changed to the monthly. I contacted them the moment I was charged and I was denied a refund. These predatory practices in companies really frustrate me 😕. Therefore I would not recommend Ahead for those reasons - know that customer service will not have your back.

Response to developer: No, that is totally false. The Apple Store refunded me - it was the this app website that refused to refund me and stopped responding to my emails. Do not say that the Apple Store handles all of that.

Disappointing--and Invalidating...

You will notice right away if you work on the anxiety modules that some of the phrasing is not great. Additionally, a lot of the lessons are just gross marketing tactics (e.g., "reach out to your friends to tell them how cool our app is, oh yeah, and get them to say something positive about you"), lol. Lastly, be so careful that you watch out for the end of your trial~ Ahead said I would be notified when the trial was ending, but I was not and missed it by a few hours. Now I'm stuck with a year, but going to try to push through it to get my money's worth.

Update: the email in th developer response I received wasn't even a valid address. 🤦‍♀️

Sleek and Beautiful with the Nuance

Ahead is really sleek - it’s exactly like Duolingo but for emotions, specifically anger. However, I’m a bit disappointed in the level it’s meeting me at. It phrases anger as a bad visitor, a shame or guilt people feel. Much in the way bingeing causes guilt or shame, anger can as well. But at the root, we still have to eat, and we still have to get angry sometimes. Specially it uses the phrase “prevent anger.” I’m not convinced this an appropriate tactic, especially for the simmer and spew style of anger. I’m skeptical that it will equip me with tools to deal with others’ anger, which, if it had measured my profile with a bit more nuance, would see that it’s my primary concern.

Lovely concept, but ignores a key element

I love the concept of Ahead, I find it useful for some parts of how I’m feeling.

However, there seems to be a glaring omission here. Sadness. So many of my anxiety triggers stem from sadness and grief. Yet, when I look through all the feelings/triggers, none of them are related to that. Is sad-mad really not a concept in anger and anxiety management? Most of the time when I am angry, if I really look back and reflect, I can point to a moment that my sadness and grief overtook everything, where I realized there was nothing I could do about the sadness/grief and it spiraled into anxiety and mild anger.

As I’m using Ahead , it’s causing me more and more frustration because I can’t drill down on any of the choices to get to that feeling. It will be really hard to convince myself to pay $80 all at once for an app that’s only useful *maybe* 50% of the time.

By

Treats you like a child

Ahead expresses simple thoughts and then a click later immediately reframes them with “blank” in the sentence and you’re given a multiple choice quiz of which word to fill the blank in with. It will say “understand our triggers is important” you click to the next page and it’s “Understanding our triggers is (blank space with three options like a)bad b)applesauce c)important. This happens constantly and left me feeling like I was reading a Highlights for children magazine. Once you’ve read about two fairly simple concepts Ahead “cuts you off” for the day. They say “that’s all you can process mentally for today” and then you can’t do anything else with it. And they want people to pay for this.

By

Good so far

Ahead has been good so far, I enjoy the exact that they ask for friends and family input as well as your own. Although, when I sent this to one family member, they said, “Looks like it may be kind of cheesy in regards to accurate results. Kinda like an astrological forecast. The questions are to broad with answers that really need to be answered more specifically.” This is only day three for me and I haven’t needed to put it to the test yet. So I’ll update when I am further into it

By

Appreciate the concept but why make me feel like I was back in grade school?

Some of the techniques have been really helpful, but the modules consist of a LOT of fill in the blank type of questions, and picking whether a particular reaction is a sign of anger or not. It feels strange to have there be only ONE correct explanation of certain emotions, and it is particularly perplexing why I have to go under the stress of possibly picking the wrong answer when I’m just trying to work on myself. Why are users treated like grade school students at the mercy of some arbitrary determination of whether an action is motivated by anger or not, just so they can be subject to unnecessary judgment? For example, I thought “trying to make eye contact” wasn’t a sign because I would make eye contact with people out of respect or to show that I’m listening to them, but Ahead told me that it could be a sign of anger from “feeling left out.” It might make sense with 20/20 hindsight but I often struggle to wrap my head around these questions/answers. Alternatively, supposing that Ahead has all the correct answers, at least show me a good number examples of signs of anger before throwing me in the middle of multiple choice questions please.

By

“Free” and “Paid”

Like many people that have left one star reviews, I downloaded Ahead to try, went through the initial questionnaire and then hit a “subscription wall” where the only option is to sign up for a 7 day trial and then pay, after reading reviews and responses from the developer, I see that the reason Ahead is considered “free” is because of that 7day trial offer but no where in Ahead Store pictures or description does it tell you this and only when you go to reviews do you find the reason, even though the developers responses to reviews leads me to believe it’s spelled out somewhere in the fine print before you install (it’s not). Like many that struggle with anger I have other mental health problems going on that prevent me from remembering to cancel a subscription even with a notification, so like all those others, I decided to uninstall as soon as I couldn’t use Ahead without setting up a payment plan. There are many ways to introduce a free version of your app without creating a pay wall and telling prospective customers that “we can’t do this for free” sets a bad taste in my mouth when it’s advertised as free to begin with and no mention of the details I’ve laid out.

False advertising

Don’t say you like the Duolingo of emotional learning if I can’t sign up for free. (…and no a free trial to be billed after 7 days doesn’t count as free)
Edit (response):
I think most of us are aware of apple’s AppStore’s questionable policy on “free” apps that have in app purchases.
It’s your advertisement I saw on facebook that says ‘the duolingo of emotional learning’ to be not in good faith. Of course you and your team deserve to earn a fair and livable wage. And the ethics of third party advertisers connected to this particular app since it deals with personal data/information I understand could be very difficult to navigate and probably best to avoid altogether. But the comparison to duolingo, a company which has repeatedly tried to find new revenue streams but always keeping its commitment to having a genuinely free (freely accessible to the masses—via advertising) option for consumers, feels disingenuous.

By

Beautiful Start

I just started using this last night am am enjoying the mini lesson formats. I like that I am taught and asked follow up questions. I also like that Ahead asks personal questions then gives options for strategies, not just one size fits all strategies for the thing you’re working on. I like that you can share a short quiz with your friends who can help Ahead learn more about you-anonymously.
I like the Duolingo -esq interface.
I like that the lessons show how long they will take.
It is attractive.
You get one week free trial and it doesn’t cost much per month after that.

By

Makes you commit to see the progress

Self improvement books might break things down to you but they do not teach you or give you tools to commit to see improvements. Reminders and check ins for self awareness are very helpful techniques that book cannot offer. Also I like that it picks best practices and main points from different books into a concise message and exercise. My personal addition that I wanted to share is that when I do breathing technique I imagine and say to myself that I am breathing in peace and breathing out all of my anger from my body and mind. Give it a try.

For those only at the beginning of their journey

There was another review that mentioned how there is a sadness connected to some of these emotions that is a big “miss” in Ahead , and I would have to agree.

For example, I chose the anxiety and overthinking/ruminating, which I definitely agree with.
However, my anxiety is rooted in things…it is not just generalized “anxiety” which is what Ahead aims to classify it as.

Some of the advice just seems silly, like if you were worrying do something you enjoy instead.… that is such topical advice.
People that suffer from anxiety struggle to do things they enjoy because they have trouble getting out of their worry cycle.

What would benefit people greatly is Ahead being able to “relate “to its audience.

“At times, anxiety can stem from different emotions. Sometimes we can find it difficult to get out of our anxiety because we have inadvertently made it our comfort zone.”

This would be an example of how we can relate anxiety to humans and also tie to our evolution.… and relay to the user, that worry and anxiety can be a season and not a way life.

Like watching Sesame Street, if Sesame Street was mostly just a blank screen

Ahead talks to you like you’re a five-year-old, and then spreads smarmy, entirely empty “advice” across dozens of screens that you slowly, slooooooooowly have to tap through. That is, when it doesn’t take 10 minutes to load and/or constantly time out and return a blank screen because of an internal server error. This is so laughably far from being ready for the big time, and rather than using this as an opportunity to offer this half-cocked collection of nonsense for a reduced price so they can actually collect data and improve it so it’s worth your while, this company wants to dig its hooks into you as fast as possible and lock you in so it can drain your wallet.

Need for Enhancing Accessibility: A Vision for Inclusive Learning

Ahead seems REALLY cool , but it’s a huge reading-focused app with a lack of accessibility—primarily in the text format, which makes it more difficult and frustrating for me. As someone who took the ACT with accommodations for the blind and dyslexic, which included having a person read the test to me, I find Ahead 's lack of an audible feature to be a significant barrier. I can’t use the tools on my iPhone that I usually rely on to have the text read or "spoken" out loud. This limitation requires me to push myself even more to use Ahead , which is something I really want to do. Overall, I feel that, without an audible feature, it's not the most realistic use of my time. However, if that changes, I would definitely like to take part in Ahead!!! Additionally, I suggest adding a definition feature so that every user can have the freedom to not have to feel like an idiot constantly looking it up on Google. It's worth noting that apps like Speechify demonstrate how adding accommodations can benefit a wide range of people, and platforms like Quizlet already offer an audible feature, making learning more accessible to all. And perhaps a question tool, if one of ur stamens is confusing and in need of further explanation.

Helped me before the free trial ended

I had an episode where I was really anxious about returning to work from maternity leave, so I went on Ahead and was able to address the issue and this app provided some techniques to help me navigate that uncertainty, and it really helped me. The same with an episode where I got angry—as I’m the type to dwell on things. I can’t help it, I’ve always been that way. this app allowed me to reflect on the incident and see it in a different light, and truly provided the guidance needed for me to weather that mental storm in a healthy way. This journey is important for me because I want to improve myself, but I also want to be able to help coach my children through different emotions and introduce them to healthy outlets and/or coping mechanisms. I’m really impressed with how everything is laid out in Ahead , the ease of navigation, and the learning that’s delivered in micro-doses with activities sprinkled in to allow for a more personalized experience. I’m so excited for my journey!

Just what I needed.

Ive been using Ahead for over a week now. It’s easy to use, and very informative. I look forward to loading it up each day and learning more ways to better cope with my anger. It offers tons of techniques to help destress yourself in times of anger, and is basically just a little anger buddy, there to help when things get heated. Ahead has been very effective for me and managing my own personal angers and honestly just what I was looking for. I recommend 100% to anyone who knows their anger is an issue, and would like to take steps to better it. Dont keep wasting the good days being mad.

Glorified E-Book on Managing Emotions

I downloaded Ahead after seeing an advertisement calling it Duolingo for emotions. After a few days of use, I’ve found that Ahead is more akin to a glorified e-book. Each lesson is several slides you can swipe through of written text, with one or two very obvious multiple choice fill-in-the-blank questions. While the information is good, there is no gamification or practice element that helps you absorb the information and learn the described techniques. When they do have you practice techniques, it is just freely writing a response to a prompt. It would be better to create a mad-libs style response where Ahead is providing ways anger, anxiety, etc can be addressed with blank spaces to add specific details. While this is a great concept for an app, it falls short when it comes to actually teaching the techniques it describes. It could use updating to improve the gamification of Ahead with interactive elements that guide the user in their learning.

After having used this app for several weeks…

I have been impressed by Ahead since I started using it. After having used Ahead for several weeks , I can say it has been a great investment and I know that the value I’m getting from Ahead is worth waaayy more than what I payed for it. The price is very reasonable as well, which I appreciate. Everyone deserves the opportunity to invest in themselves 🩵 thank you, this app Team!

Also, I can say for certain that my consistency is paying off and I have noticed a positive shift in the way I handle moments when I experience anger 🥰 it works!

Worth the price

So I downloaded this with low expectations, and got the five day free trial. I forgot about cancelling…and got SO MAD when I realized it automatically charged me the annual rate because I forgot to cancel. Realizing this is an app for anger management, I just did a couple of the exercises, and felt better right then and there. Well, it works. Figured I paid for it so I might as well use it. It’s been about 3 weeks now and it’s been super helpful. I’m also working on overcoming being a chronic procrastinator, and Ahead has been giving me practical strategies to form new (non procrastination) habits.

It’s like therapy, you get out of it what you put into it. So it’s not a “quick fix,” but if you’re really committed to becoming a better version of yourself, you’ll put the strategies that work for you into practice and likely see great results over time. Don’t give up on yourself.

Thanks to the developers for creating such a cool, science-backed app.

Feeling Calm and At Peace.

Ahead is extraordinary - I have never been more motivated to combat my anxiety. Doing the lessons every day (so short, only 5 minutes max!) has brought me new ways to cope and view my anxiety. With how much I overthink, I thought I had thought of every way to feel better and nothing was working! this app uses real studies and sites their sources, which makes me feel all the more comfortable. I have been off of my anxiety medication and I thought I’d never find peace without it - but with Ahead I have found productive ways to process my feelings, thank my mind for protecting me, and move forward from the scary thoughts. Day and night difference after using consistently.

PLUS. The animations, awards, community discussion, and lessons keep me excited to come back! Ahead was everything I had hoped for when searching for an all-encompassing self care app, I couldn’t ask for more :)

Great app but cost prohibitive for many

I like Ahead thus far but I think the pricing makes it prohibitive for many people. I wish more mental health companies/apps would take note of Balance Meditations dealing with this. They let users have full access for 1 year during the pandemic and now their annual cost is also more reasonable than other meditation apps. To help the most people, the cost needs to be accessible. Many of those struggling most are struggling financially and having to pay this much for an app doesn’t seem very helpful. Even the option to pay less would be better. I can afford it and dont mind paying full price (even a higher price if it means there’s an affordable option for others) but what I don’t like is a standard prohibitive cost. Balance has a lifelong customer after their behavior. Would love to see this app act in the same light

Regret Purchase

I had high hopes for Ahead, but it’s just not for me. I learned nothing so far that I already did not know from doing research. I have inattentive ADHD and I lost interest in Ahead so often throughout my trial period. The design is cute but there’s just too much going on for me and techniques toolkit is annoying to get to because I get distracted by the Community Questions and it is difficult to determine what tasks I have remaining to do for the day just by glancing at it because the purple checkmark kind of blends in with Ahead color theme. And yes it is glitchy at times. I also dislike that I had to send surveys to friends/family at one point. Pretty awkward to do when you’re just beginning this journey. Unfortunately, I forgot to cancel my subscription before the free trial so now I am stuck with a year of this. I wish it would send a reminder before charging. I will continue to try this out since it’s paid for, and will update this review if it gets better but I’m still pretty salty about the charge.

Bugs and fundamental problems

Ahead continually locks up when you use a widget to open it. It lags quite a bit when switching Journeys. Sometimes it lags when tapping a button during a lesson, so you end up double tapping a button somehow and it displays the next card twice over. Generally speaking it works.

However, the other problem is that it seems to treat the symptoms of anger rather than their root causes. Sometimes anger comes from real problems at home and at work, but Ahead seems to ignore the problems altogether and just focus on circumventing the anger. This tends to overshadow and displace the real problem, leaving the anger to simply become an issue as a result of the same problem. Ahead should focus more on resolving our problems with our situations and with others in our lives with empathy rather than simply patch over it with redirection.

Actually working for me

I have trouble committing and sticking with things for a long period of time. I’ve downloaded tons of CBT/DBT/planning/organizing/self-help apps - the only thing I’ve ever been consistent with is DuoLingo (almost 2 years!), and so when I saw this advertised as “the Duolingo of emotions”, I was very interested and downloaded right away. It really does hit those same “accomplishment” activators and I actually plan on investing in this one once the free trial ends. The topics are useful, positive, and super interesting/engaging. There are tips and techniques I’ve never heard of and I also love the informal tone of the lessons and personality assessments. It’s really fun for me, and I’ve had a better time working from home since using it.

So helpful and convenient, love!

I’ve been really struggling with controlling my anger. I would say over the last little bit, but I think my it’s something I’ve always struggled with. I’ve been thinking a lot about meeting with a therapist for some counseling but that just isn’t something we have the time or resources right now. Ahead has really been perfect for me because I’ve been able to fit it into my day when I need it most and been able to take the time and go as slow as I want to soak in the information on it. So far I have learned a lot about myself and how my brain functions, and felt empowered on how I can change the way that I think.

Disappointed

I’m a new mom and was looking forward to mess around with this little app to maybe help my frustration and stress, and now I’m just more frustrated and stressed. Open Ahead and immediately am annoyed that it’s not actually free, but whatever, it makes sense. It tells you that they will NOTIFY you when your free trial is up, so I took the offer. Ahead is nothing to write home about. Immediately forgot about it because you are only allowed to use Ahead for 5 minutes a day before you are essentially locked out from doing anything. So how fun do you think it was to wake up to a notification not from Ahead, but to my bank telling me I’ve purchased AN ENTIRE YEAR for Ahead 🤪 Why their subscription default is for an entire year is beyond me, and SO sketchy. Really wish I could’ve bought stuff for my baby. But now I’m stuck without $60 for an app that gives me information I could’ve gotten for free on google <3 it’s definitely on me for not remembering to cancel it, but VERY annoyed that I didn’t get the reminder that I was told I would get. Smh

Interesting concept, a little buggy

Ahead interface is visually engaging and fun, but the excessive clicking required isn’t my favorite (I don’t love this in duo lingo either, so maybe I’m not their target audience!). There seems to be a lot of loading between screens, and the assessment was confusing. They first had me do it in the browser, but then after I downloaded Ahead it didn’t translate. Then it didn’t seem to recognize my trial, even though I had put in my payment info when I downloaded Ahead , and I got an error message when trying to restore purchases. So I was confused when I kept getting popups about the trial I couldn’t get passed.

Anyway, it seems like well researched info, and the concept it very intriguing, but I definitely haven’t seen enough to justify $100/year right out the gate.

Great app, few glitches

I did the 7 day trial. Ahead has great content that is scientifically proven and studied. I really enjoyed the content and felt it was helpful to me and relevant. Definitely worth a trial if you need guided sessions to manage your emotions. It will get to know you based on your answers to questions and then tailor sessions to target your problem areas. Then it will give you techniques to work on that.

I wasn’t convinced to pay $59/yr. The reason is because I’m not sure Ahead has content for me to commit to 1 yr subscription. Ahead glitches sometimes and can be frustrating to manage. There’s also a few typos but those can be easily overlooked. I didn’t like that when I canceled it sent me a notification that I’d regret it lol, the shaming of cancelling isn’t necessary. It’s marketed so that you somewhat rely on Ahead . I get it, but I don’t appreciate preying on people’s emotions, being that this is an emotion coach app! Anyway, if they ever do a month to month plan I may try again, but a year is questionable.

Ahead is great!

I started using this app because I’d noticed I spent too much time being angry and overreacting to very minor things. I’d always wanted to change that, and this app could not have come at a better time. I started using it and felt immediately empowered. It’s good to know that there’s something you can do everyday to work on yourself. Since then, I’ve learned a lot about how anger works, how to identify signs of anger in myself, and what to do with that information to do better next time. In just a month I’ve already been told that they see a difference! Things that would normally trigger me in unhealthy ways no longer have that much control over me. I plan to continue using this app and highly recommend this for anyone who wants to work on themselves.

Some bugs, great nonetheless

Yes, there are some bugs. Sometimes, as I have come to learn, there are things that I cannot control in life. I am confident that the developer is working on the bugs.
One of the reasons I like this application, is that through its use, I not only have come to recognize my anger moments, as well as when my friends and counterparts also are in their anger moments. I don’t comment on this to them, as that is not my place to do so. I become quiet and reflect that my buddy needs some time to calm down. I am not here to fix him.
I’ve come across some bugs and while my initial reaction is to respond with an annoying stance I find myself laughing at myself, it’s almost as if it was planned by the developer as another way to recognize my anger and blaming others.

In closing, I like the application, I believe with time the bugs will be ironed out and I am confident with continued usage I will become a better manager of my emotions. Kudos to the development team. Well done! Keep up the amazing work.

Incredible for brain and emotions awareness

Although Ahead isn’t as user friendly Duolingo yet, it is like having a CBT or DBT coach at your fingertips. I have been using it almost every day since getting it. A note for the developers: When I interact with Ahead , it’s not clear what is required in order to keep a daily streak going. I have been using Ahead every day for over a week, yet it only shows a 4-day streak. Another issue I imagine you’re working on is the words on the screen aren’t often completely visible. They aren’t always centered. Paragraph’s sometimes are positioned at the bottom of the screen. Certain single sentences in list form aren’t completely visible, so it is a challenge to know which choice to make since I don’t know the context. Aside from those technical issues, bravo a hundred times over for creating such a meaningful app.

Game changer

Ahead has been a game changer for me. I use it for anxiety. At the end of each mini-module is says something like “Congrats you just re-wired your brain!” During the first several days I thought “sure whatever”. But shortly after I gradually started to feel it working as I incorporated some of the strategies into my real-life stressful situations. Everyone responds differently to different tools - this one just happens to work for me.

One suggestion I have to make it even better: after I completed all the modules I wanted to start over and go through all of them again. But by then they were all checked off as completed so there’s no way to “bookmark” my progress the 2nd time around. This would be a big help as repetition is key for me.

But overall this app has been a really valuable part of my anxiety management toolbox!

Best app for anger management

I've only had Ahead for a week, and usually I don't write app reviews, but I feel like this has to be an exception because it could really benefit those who can't afford therapy. I needed help with my anger management and anxiety, as I found myself constantly yelling at people over small things or arguing with them constantly, but it feels like I have no control over it when it happens. Ahead has been helpful in recognizing my anger and taking a moment before reacting. I have a whole tool kit of calming activities that I can do to help calm down. It has improved my relationships with my partner and my mom. I have a long way to go, but so far Ahead has been more effective than traditional anger management classes. It will help so much more. My anger seems to be the main issue, but I also use it for anxiety and self-confidence, but you can choose your journeys if anger management does not apply to you. It will help so much more.

Surprisingly helpful

My one critique about Ahead is that it only lets you do a few lessons per day. I understand the idea behind forcing you to pace yourself so you can reflect on lessons and not just plow through the whole thing as you’re triggered, but I wish it would allow just a couple more lessons before asking you to take time to process what you’ve done.
I’ve been in therapy for a long time but have always struggled with applying what I’ve learned from it “in the moment.” Ahead really helps with that. Like, if I’m anxious and trying to avoid something, I’m grabbing my phone anyway to scroll through social media. But, Ahead is there now too. So I’m more likely to recognize that I’m anxious, open Ahead , log an anxious moment, and use a technique to actually address it. I’ve only been using Ahead for a week but I can already tell a difference with how I’m processing stuff. I can tell it’s a great supplement to the therapy I’m doing.
