Not a tool for weight loss

2024-02-23

My doctor prescribed this tool for me to help me get my blood sugar controlled. To reverse my type 2 diabetes. However, this very expensive tool provides no insights to facilitate losing weight. The instructions describe the types of carbs and various calories that impact insulin. But DexcomG7 doesn’t have the capability to input what one ate. Instead it relies on the person to use another company’s app or nutritional information to measure only the carbohydrates and not the type of carbohydrates. Any calorie will trigger insulin production, but Dexcom is quietly advocating a low carb diet. Exercise is another input allowed by dexcom, but it relies on the user to figure out the intensity, and it doesn’t have input for calories burned.
Seeing the blood sugar trending is interesting. But there’s no ability to export the information to report on it or to compare it over time to determine progress or regress.
As a tool for weight management or lifestyle change, it fails miserably.
For a tool that will help one determine how much insulin one needs to take, great.

Latest update

2024-01-28

Let me tell you I love DexcomG7 on my watch, but with the latest update, I don’t even have a reading on my watch anymore. It doesn’t tell me anything. so I hope you guys will get this fixed soon. this is a pain for a lot of us but can be very dangerous or somebody that only monitors it with the watch for instance, young children that have their parents set it up for them and they’re at school. In this day and age, you never know what’s gonna happen, and that could become something deadly for somebody that relies on it way too much!

Unhappy Camper!

2024-05-30

I HATE the G7! I was an abdominal G6 wearer and loved the fact that I, and I alone, knew I was wearing a CGM! The G6 was accurate and was a great help to achieve my blood sugar goals. This G7 announces to the world that I’m a diabetic using a CGM, which is no one else’s business; and needs calibrating all day long if I wear it on my abdomen (which my doctor said I could do!)! I might as well go back to finger sticks, just to maintain my medical privacy! Yes, the G7 is 60% smaller, but 40% on my arm is not acceptable. Having a G7 also means altering my wardrobe and my ward-robe choices —no more sleeveless blouses or shirts. I can’t be the only person using a G7 who dislikes having this thing on their arm. If the G7 is so great, make it work where it can be totally discreet for the patients wearing it! “Bug fix” the G7 so it gives accurate readings on the abdomen for those of us who wish to keep their medical treatment private AND still be able to wear the clothing that they want—not the clothing that hides a device! If the G6 technology worked on the abdomen, certainly you can “bug fix” the G7 to do the same! I loved my G6; however, this G7 is the pits! And yes, simply because it violates my medical privacy by announcing to the world with it’s visibility on my arm that I am a diabetic wearing CGM! I HATE that! Fix it, PLEASE!

Loose control of life-interfering alarms..

2024-05-30

This company struggles to walk the (admittedly) fine-line between customer needs and covering their liability backside. As a result, the iPhone app is life disturbing. Dexcom overrides Apple and chooses its own settings, sounds and times to alarm. They have the weakest support organization in the medical community ever experienced. No second level or senior support to work with on the phone. Front line people are more like order takers that take volumes of information for a benign issue, put you on hold, then come back with the most maddening next question. Then another 8 minutes waiting the the next weak response. I am without a working system, in a foreign country and deleted DexcomG7 so I could shut it up and get some sleep. And help is so close to zero. Nil. Then they offer to mail me a replacement sensor! Again, piling on my frustration. Do not commit to this system without understanding the PROS and CONS.
UPDATE: As a response to this review, they offer to contact me. Of course, they ask volumes of information—most irrelevant—and do not provide the keyboard function for two required fields. Thus, submission is impossible from my iPhone 14Pro with latest iOS.

Unbelievable

2024-05-03

I have received a 90 day supply of sensors for the G7. Been using the 6 fir years. I have had 4 sensors fail in a row. The last one I was wearing was giving me a high reading of 210. Gave myself insulin. Turned out reading was wrong and sugar went into the 40’s. Spoke to DexCom and informed them that all the same sensors from same lot numbers are failing. There exact words to me was I am sorry but there is nothing we can do about that. Just because your present sensors failed does not mean the others will. All we can do is document it. If that does not tell you everything you need to know what will. Proceed with caution.

I was hopeful

2024-05-30

I was hopeful that the G7 would be an improvement on the G6 but when I initially start a new sensor the readings are so inaccurate and DexcomG7 alarms all the time. My readings are usually super high when starting a new sensor and don’t correlate at all with my glucose meter. I lose connection all the time and then the longer it is on my readings start to become critically low and I check on my meter and it is now where close to what my sensor is saying. Once I start getting the low readings within a day my sesor fails. I think out of 7 or 8 sensors I have only had 2 last the entire 10 days. I rarely had this issue with the G6 transmitters and sensors, and I had been using those for close to 5 years. I maybe had 2-3 sensors fail during that time. I prefer the Tconnect app and not only that the adhesive makes my arm itch so bad. I just want to rip the thing off within a couple days. I was excited to get the G7 sensors because of the shorter warm up time and it being all in one but after using them for almost 2 months I am extremely disappointed.

No Signal Bad Connection Always!

2024-07-05

I’m a Product Manager in Tech. So this message is for the Tech and Product Teams. How can you release a product that loses signal and connection 85% of the time? Did you wear it yourselves? My 7 yr old daughter had diabetes using the G6 which works great and before she used it I tested it. I found multiple single losses multiple times a day. It was pretty much rendered absolutely useless. Now insurance is trying to push the G7 and forces a reason to use the G6. I can’t imagine that this at all ready for this type of transition. Especially with the expectation that this should work with a pump in the future. The size is amazing, the warmup time is incredible. You are there if the functionality works.

Country of residence issue

2024-08-05

My mom has been a long time Dexcom user, and we all loved the products. We were super excited to see the launch of G7 since it seems more compact and easier to use.

However, after downloading the G7 app, we were only to face the fact that her account’s “country of residence doesn’t match the phone’s location”. Hence not being able to use G7/DexcomG7 .

We feel extremely sad to see this new feature up and running:( I understand dexcom isn’t officially on the market in certain countries, however we didn’t encounter this location issue with its previous products. I know this location thing won’t affect too many people, but I feel sad to see it happening on us. We loved Dexcom and also recommended it to people around us who have the need for CGM products, guess they’ll face the same problem:( Also, what about people who reside in the US, but is currently traveling abroad? Wouldn’t this feature affect them as well?

Not sure about the whole point of this new location feature, but I truly hope this issue could be fixed for users like us, since we love using dexcom and would hate to have to switch to other brands.

DON’T DO IT

2024-05-30

Sure, I love the 27 minute warm up time for the G7 vs. the 2 hour warm up of the G6. But that is the only thing I like. DexcomG7 is so awful and I hate it so much. I cannot wait until I’m out of G7 sensors and will beg my doctor to go back to the G6.
Pros: quick warm up time
Cons: sensor insertion is harder, it has to be on your arm (I prefer the stomach), you get signal loss all the time, the sensor adhesive is so itchy, they require an additional sticky patch which is annoying, DexcomG7 often doesn’t work, I’ll get a notification saying I’m 147 and then I open DexcomG7 immediately and it says I’m 200, DexcomG7 runs more slowly, the sharing feature doesn’t work and requires a re-login but then gives you a blank screen and won’t let you log in, it alerts you twice for lows and tells you you’re urgent low and that you’re just low, the calibration feature doesn’t always work, sometimes my real numbers are way off from what the Dexcom is saying, and the alerts/notifications are plain WRONG. Just to name a few.

Only Works First 5 Days

2024-05-30

After having a Freestyle Libre 3 for a while, my insurance stopped covering it and made me switch to the g7. Gave it a shot and have been on it for a month now, and every single time it has been the same. The first 4-5 days it works fairly well and the accuracy can sometimes be a little off, but usually isn’t too bad. However, on every single sensor I have used at this point, it stops working after day 4-5. Wildly inaccurate readings that jump all over the place. Caused me to give myself a bunch of correction insulin, only to find out by pricking my finger that I was actually already in range, and had just given myself a big dose of correction. Had to immediately scarf down food to avoid crashing. Will be immediately switching to a new sensor. Do NOT use these sensors. They only work 4-5 days when they are supposed to last 10, and can cause actual health emergencies from the wildly inaccurate readings. Cannot believe these are even on the market.

Cannot dismiss alerts from watch

2024-06-07

DexcomG7 is almost good. It’s missing two features that are standard in every other app in the AppStore. And with those features it would be 4 stars.
1. Most important. Be able to dismiss alerts from the Apple Watch. I get alert, dismiss the alert of the watch, but a minute later it alerts again. Making me have to open DexcomG7 on my phone to dismiss the alert. If I’m in a meeting or somewhere important I can’t be pulling out my phone or having Loud critical alerts going off every couple of minutes for something I’ve taken care of. An even better feature would be to let me get a 1 minute quiet notification on my watch that I could clear before even setting off a critical alert. But as the way it is now, I’m going to have to turn off critical alert notifications, which is not a good thing.
2. This doesn’t seem like a big one, but it is. Dark mode. It exists on Dexcom Follow app, so I know there Devs know how to do it, and they should be using shared libraries, so why am I blinding my self at night to check my Blood Sugars? A device and technology so advanced it can tell me my blood sugar every 5 minutes just by looking at a screen, when just 20 years ago we were peeing on sticks, and not long before that peeing on the ground and watching for ants. But yet my retinas burn when I check my blood sugar. And my I get just as embarrassed as everyone stares at me thinking I didn’t mute my phone for the meeting. Please fix this.

G7 bluetooth is absolute garbage.

2024-12-08

How on earth this product made it past any rounds of testing and or approval is beyond me?! The Bluetooth CONSTANTLY disconnects. I spend more time in Signal Loss than I do checking my actual readings. The range is absolutely pathetic. My phone can be sat right next to me and Dexcom App has no idea where the signal is.

Stop worrying so much about controlling my notifications and forcing me to have DexcomG7 set up the way *you* want and just release a product that works at its most basic level.

Don’t use G7 stay with G6

2025-01-08

The good - size and start time of transmitter. The bad: integration with Apple Watch is glitchy at best and if you don’t check on the phone first misleading. The G6 did not have this issue. In using the G7 over a month, the indicator is not working as accurately as the G6. Not sure if they need to update their AI model or what but I wouldn’t count on the direction it is giving. Alerting is glitchy unlike the G6. Overall, I would tell Dexcom to stop using interns to do the development work on their mobile applications.

Update at your own risk!!!!!!

2025-02-09

So I just recently switched to Dexcom two days ago. The Apple Watch complication doesn’t hardly work. I called tech support twice and both reps told me I have to use another complication instead of the Dexcom one because DexcomG7 is not supported for os10 on Apple Watch. So they mean to tell me I have to decide between my security and software update or having a working complication on my Apple Watch that’s INSANE!!!!!!!! The fact I have to run os9 just to get this to work on my Apple Watch Ultra is crazy. Need to be fixed asap.

Useless app from overseas

2024-06-07

I used the G6 app during my travels, the G7 app cannot be setup from overseas, even if your residence is in the US. To start you are forced to allow access to location services ( setup screen locked until location access is granted), which in itself is an invasion of privacy. Then, contrary to the disclaimer, the location is used for comparison with the account address and the setup Is locked with an error indicating location different from residence as if one has to be locked in one’s residence. An invitation to contact technical support yields no result beside waste of communication fees from abroad ( delete and reload, create new account… ) and confusing explanations about geolocation allegedly not working in every country. It might be time for US developers to realize that the world extends beyond San Diego and Boston ! One thing is sure, on my return to the US, once my nine sensors are used up I will switch to another CGM ( FreeStyle Libre) or no CGM For US companies and software developers to be so dismissive of the rest of the world in 2024 is beyond belief!
Contact suggested by Apple does not yield any result , the only suggestion by Dexcom support is to buy the receiver and basically not use / initialise DexcomG7 while overseas. This is beyond belief in an allegedly global world!!!
The western world view is anyone outside the west is a thief or a fraud and everything must be done to restrict or suppress his access! Pathetic!

Absolute garbage

2024-06-07

Don’t waste your money. Get a Libre 3. I ve been a Libre user wanted to try the g7 mainly because of the Apple Watch difference basically I though you could look at your watch and see your blood sugar. But to my surprise g7 only checks once every 5 minutes and that’s garbage unlike Libre that is constantly updating every second. And when your T1 that’s critical the sensor is extremely hard to apply as the applicator needs a lot to spring then you need to release the sensor from the applicator which itself can cause problems and this is all in the first hour now my phone keeps getting annoying notifications by the way the first sensor was faulty and would not pair with my iphone15pro max I bought six of these out of pocket cause my insurance won’t cover more than 2 a month and since they don’t last as long as the libre3 I’m out of luck I feel completely ripped of since customer service doesn’t care I would only recommend these if you’re eitherT2. Or a lazy parent of a child withT1 cause these are garbage

Critical Alerts Issue Makes App useless

2024-06-07

Do not buy the Dexcom G7 sensor until Dexcom fixes major issue with app. This apps notifications mandate regarding Critical Alerts makes DexcomG7 useless. There is a notification setting called critical alerts that completely overrides one’s ability to use DexcomG7 in environments where complete silence is expected. Even when the phone is set to silence and the main volume is turned all the way down, the critical alert settings overrides all volume settings and sound a loud alert alarm. Within DexcomG7 notification settings, there is a selection to disable the critical alert function BUT when you disable it and try to use DexcomG7 , a message blocking the use of DexcomG7 is displayed stating that DexcomG7 will not function or register any readings unless one re-enables the critical alert setting. So, DexcomG7 is effectively rendered useless because I cannot have this setting overriding my ability to ensure my phone remains silent in settings that require such silence. The question is, why Dexcom has designed DexcomG7 with the ability to disable Critical Alerts but when you do, won’t allow your app to work at all and forces you to turn the critical alerts sound override back on if you want to use DexcomG7 . This is completely unacceptable and must be fixed immediately.

Unreliable — NOT recommended

2024-06-07

UPDATE: Gets worse and worse, 2 of 18 (11%) sensors failed during use and needed to be returned. NOT reliable in my opinion. App continues to crash and drops out without data as well as insulin records nog being recorded.

Buyer beware — app is unreliable and does not properly record insulin entries. There is a bug in software that removes insulin entries. Multiple times after entering and verifying entry, I’ve come back and there is no data. As a medical device, the data is unreliable and I cannot trust it. Additionally, I’ve experienced “blackouts” where software will not load. When calling tech services they were unable to tell me what the committed up time is. Also getting through to support is neatly impossible and requires a yon of personal information which should NOT be required. Can not recommend if this was for a parent wanting to help a child Recommended to NOT use this product in my opinion, have shared with any provider who has asked. Just using up what came with prescription before checking alternative options. Also —> response from developers is disappointing and seems to be the same for every response. Asking us to use an automated response system which seems to make you use a ton if personal info just to submit. As a medical device, if is clear they do not care about end users.

So much potential wasted

2025-07-23

DexcomG7 has so much potential to be useful, what a waste!
First, for every plotted data point you should be able to click on it and see the exact glucose reading and time obtained, the data is already there, let us see it! The graph doesn’t need to be in preset 3,6,12,24 hour windows, though that is nice, it’s not hard to create something that can be pinched to zoom in or out to better visualize your readings.
Second, if someone is using this and not on insulin, then they should not be required to have critical low notifications on as your own body will not kill itself. We put in at the beginning if we’re on insulin or not so that should be an easy one.
Last, allow an export button to pull your data onto an excel spreadsheet, again you’ve got all that data, give the user excess!
I do like that you can calibrate with a point of care glucose reading, that’s a great idea so thank you for that.

Watch connection is still broken

2025-09-02

I constantly get alerts on my watch that the signal has been lost, but the phone app is fine.

Phone app doesn’t always stay updated either. When I open DexcomG7 , there’s several seconds lag time between the chart updating, and the reading flashes through each number until it gets to the current reading.

Readings on a fresh sensor session are always way off, sometimes by more than 100mg/dL. I have to calibrate several times to make sure it’s accurate.

I love having the G7, but DexcomG7 was working better earlier this year and I don’t know what changes have been made for things to be worse like this.

iPhone widget stopped working

2025-08-18

Since this week’s G7 app update on 10/25, the iPhone widget stopped working. At first I noticed the graph was just not updating. I tried removing it and adding it back to my Home Screen. That just made it a blank white square. It works to take me into DexcomG7 , but has no visual information.

Low quality app for something used all the time

2025-09-19

Widget is not found to install on my Lock Screen like the email and notification said it would. Would be very helpful but is not working at all. Lack of control over notifications and alerts. Annoying and frustrating- overall a poor quality app.

Obnoxious alarms

2024-07-12

The alarms on DexcomG7 are the most obnoxious options available. There is no option for high glucose for a simple short beep… but there are chimes, police sirens, twinkling bells, or one that sounds like the doomsday alert just dropped, and they are persistently obnoxious. The silent tones are only available for 6 hours, which means my co workers get to be full stop annoyed with me literally every single 12 hour shift I work at the hospital, as well as my patients. DexcomG7 needs a makeover. There’s not even an option to provide the designers that feedback. On top of that it is so glitchy. I don’t remember ever having this many sensor issues with Bluetooth connectivity to Dexcom g6. Please give us an upgrade and save everyone, their families and their co workers their sanity. When these alarms go off everyone worries about our safety, we can’t sleep at night without waking up our partners, and we are just as frustrated with our diabetes as when we didn’t have continuous glucose monitoring available for ourselves. It makes something that’s already stressful to manage 3 times more stressful, especially if you are someone who is super sensitive to auditory stimulation.

Meh

2025-11-21

DexcomG7 leaves much to be desired. I lose connection with my phone in my pocket. I don’t like having to put my phone on auto rotate to look at my graph, and I HATE that I don’t have the ability to look at individual times and blood sugars on the graph by sliding my finger like I did on the G6. I think I miss that the most. The G7 app really is just disappointing.

Stop annoying sounds

2025-12-23

It rings at work, it rings at home when trying to put baby to sleep, it rings all the time when I don’t want it to ring. I have my phone with me 100% and a freaking “vibrate only” would work just fine. Will review my vote if you implement a “vibrate only” mode, because the rest of DexcomG7 is great.

Left stranded in a foreign country

2026-01-23

My phone broke and I tried to download on my wives phone, but it won’t allow us to use DexcomG7 because we are not in our “country of origin”. Why do they want or need our location to be in the US? Luckily I brought test strips, but this is a major oversight and makes me sad and upset.

Have had nothing but issues

2026-02-24

Continually have issues with lost signal.
Had one sensor the filament was bad it was bent in half.
Had another sensor that had two filaments in it.
Now I have a sensor that won’t pair for it to get a signal.
The only good thing is that they have replaced the bad ones.
Will be glad when Libre 3 comes out with a receiver so I can switch.
Just have to many other things going on I don’t need to keep worrying about my CGM.

Last update broke Apple Watch function

2026-03-28

Apple Watch readings no longer work after last update. Sad.

Crap we’re stuck with

2026-04-26

Dexcom has interoperability with Tandem so it’s my CGM of choice.

Meanwhile. When I open DexcomG7 the graph will be incorrect for seconds, kinda sloppy but whatever. If an alarm goes off, and I’m playing music, my music will be turned up to 11, blasting my ear drums. And, most importantly, no widgets/complications. How can y’all be so far ahead and so far behind at the same time.

Y’all. Come on.

Trying another CGM

2024-07-12

I used G6, then I switched to G7 as soon as it came out. Every month I have had some kind of issue- app freezes causing me to have to delete DexcomG7 , losing all of my stats, & reinstalling; hours of no readings; inaccurate readings; app will not recalibrate; and sensor has just stopped working. Replacing the sensor with a new one makes me one short for the month & my insurance only covers 3 per month. I either have to pay out of pocket ($65 for one sensor) or do finger sticks until my insurance will pay for refill. I try using customer service online chat to get a replacement, but the chat rep acts like I don’t deserve getting a replacement because I had to be doing something wrong or I am too stupid to understand the insertion process. It is now 12:43 am. I have been trying for an hour to calibrate because my readings are 100 points too low & chat hours are only during the work day hours. I can’t find a phone number anywhere. Since I have to now wear the sensor on my arm & not my abdomen, I will contact my doctor for a Rx for Freestyle Libre. I am soooooooooo disappointed with the product issues. I am sooooooooo dissatisfied with Dexcom’s customer service.

Apple Watch Symbol is a joke

2026-06-28

The Apple complications is a joke
Why is it so small this is Ridiculous 😭

IPhone 15

2026-07-30

DexcomG7 will not work with my new iPhone 15

Not good

2026-09-08

Just recently got my Dexcom G7. Took me three different sensors to finally get one that worked. DexcomG7 is awful, there is constantly a signal loss even with my phone never leaving my pocket or my person. Almost 75% of the time I look at my app it says signal loss. This is an issue leading me to still have to do finger sticks. Takes a while for it to regain connection after the connection is lost.

Regret switching

2026-10-10

I used to have the Freestyle Libre system and switched to the Dexcom G7. I constantly get messages that the connection was lost. The first two nights with it I was woke with alarms multiple times. I finally learned how to silence the alarms but what good is a CGM that can’t sent lows and highs alarms because it has to be disabled due to frequent disconnect alarms. I have a few boxes of these G7 and when they are gone I’m going back to the Libre.

Clarity app for Dexcom G7

2026-11-04

Hope to get this resolved ASAP! I’m not new to Dexcom CGM’s. I am a long time user of the G6 CGM, and now I am ATTEMPTING to change over to the G7 CGM.

From my first day using the G6, YOUR Clarity app has NOT worked. Thought that by now you would had turned your attention to correcting DexcomG7 . But guess what; YOU HAVE NOT!!!

Trying to set up Clarity once again for my NEW G7 CGM and it still an impossible task!! Wake Clarity app tech support.

Get your act together, do you not read and pay attention to the reviews for this TOTALLY useless app?

Please reach out to me to solve this problem.

I’m waiting!

Thank you!

Fix audible alarm.

2027-01-18

With latest update phone and watch alarm every few minutes when connection is lost even if alerts are set to vibrate. Just uninstalled from watch due to these alarms going off at work non stop.

Poor customer service!!

2024-04-05

This company is a joke. They call me to reorder supplies, then tell me my insurance is not current (which we know is incorrect), we get the insurance on a 3 way call & she assures them nothing is wrong with the insurance, then he states ok, then he tells me I’m not in the system!!! I told him he’s the one that called me. He stumbled along & said he’d get our supplies but we never got them. We then got a call from a “care specialist” as she called herself. I asked if she was going to fix this problem & she just said she was calling to let me know she cared!!! Every time you talk to someone different. I’m sitting with 5 defective g7 devices and nothing to replace them. I don’t have much hope for that!

Update: This company contacted us asap after this review & to date they have supplied us with all the failed sensors we had. Also, if you put a good waterproof bandaid around two sides you won’t get failed sensor connect reading!!

New G7 is horrible and known issues

2024-04-05

The new G7s are known to have connectivity issues and readings that are way off. My son and I both wear one and his gives the most inaccurate readings where it says critical low around 50 but checking finger pricks with two different machines, his blood sugar is actually over 200. Mine has issues with staying connected to the Dexcom app and four nights now where I have been woke up between 2 and 4 AM because it goes off saying disconnected. I have changed the G7 out for a new one and still happens. My son’s doctor has said Dexcom knows there are issues and are sending out a new version of the G7 to try and correct the issues but are still allowing the faulty ones to be used so as to not lose money. You can tell the difference because the new G7s will have the numbers underlined on the box versus old ones that do not. Ready to try the Libre 3 after all the issues with Dexcom.

Losing Connectivity

2024-02-01

I have both the G6 and G7 apps on my phone since I previously used the G6 sensors. Since changing to the G7 sensor I lose connectivity to my phone repeatedly. The only way to get the readings working again is to shut down my phone and restart it. When the G7 app stops I still have connectivity with other Bluetooth devices such as my Tandem pump, vehicle and Garmin watch. I NEVER had issues with the G6 app unless the phone wasn’t near the sensor. I lose the connection even when the phone is less than a foot away from the sensor and it won’t re-establish the connection.

Very frustrating that it doesn’t work as well as the previous apps.

Unreliable; a huge step backwards

2024-02-23

I switched to the Dexcom G7 immediately upon its release. At first I thought there were errors with the first batches being shipped. However, after several orders and continuous problems (which I’ll detail below) they continued to operate horribly, and I have ultimately switched back to the Dexcom G6.

These sensors continuously lose connectivity. If you rotate wrong in your sleep, move more than 5 feet away from your smartphone, or simply for reason at all. There are constant periods of time in which these sensors lose connectivity.

When they lose connectivity they give false low readings, and seem never to recover to an accurate reading afterwards. I enjoy snowboarding and recently had a near panic attack on a lift because the connectivity was going out, giving false readings. there’s not much more anxiety provoking than a false “LOW” reading on a ski lift suspended 30 feet in the air.

They fail on a regular basis. So many of these sensors failed before the 10 day period that Dexcom customer support informed me I reached a “maximum number of replacements in a 3 month period”. The amount of time I spent replacing these and sending old ones back for diagnostic testing was simply outrageous.

If you’re using a G6, stick with it. If you’re looking for a new sensor, this one is almost as good as no sensor at all. Be very cautious.

No Connection

2024-02-23

I had my medical provider put the device in & I waited to download DexcomG7 once I was home. DexcomG7 will not connect. I was able to login & create an account but cannot go further. I called tech support. The first guy who helped was super sweet & helpful, but he wasn’t sure what the issue was. He transferred me to a higher level of tech. It was a woman just reading a script who ended up hanging up on me in the process of trying to assist me. I never got a call back. I still can’t get DexcomG7 to work & am at a loss for what to do. It keeps telling me internet connection error, but my wifi is working fine. I’m using my wifi on another laptop with no issues. I’ve also logged in to my provider & checked with them and it’s working. I’ve tried just cell data, and I even went to another place to try their wifi. DexcomG7 will not connect. I’m at a loss & still have this stupid thing in my arm.

Unreliable at best

2024-02-23

DexcomG7 has failed to alarm more than it has actually worked. It works as designed about 33% of the time, and misses far more critical lows than it catches. The glucose levels are pretty accurate, but it rarely alarms for critical low levels. Today I dropped to 46 and the alarm didn’t go off for me or any of my designated people. Initially I slept well using this bc I thought it would alert everyone when I dip low, but it doesn’t. My daughter found me confused and sleepy, my sugar was 54 and it didn’t go off. I have my low set at 80, a falling fast alarm, and it comes preset to go off at 55, but it didn’t.

It definitely isn’t reliable enough to be considered safety equipment or medical equipment. Definitely would not use with an insulin pump and trust it overnight.

I use this as directed in the packaging, I do daily finger sticks to make sure it’s accurate, but the alarms just don’t work.

Also, a massive design flaw is that it won’t override your phone. So if you have your alarm set for 70, but your volume is down, the alarm won’t sound. If on the off chance it’s working at all that day. You can’t silence your phone at any time bc if you do, DexcomG7 doesn’t work.

It works well for tracking your numbers and trends, but that’s about it.

G7 is awful on Apple Watch

2024-01-17

I used the G6 paired to my Apple watch for years with no issues. Just recently switched to using G7’s and it is awful. Most of the time it does not display your glucose reading on the home screen of the watch, and it just shows two horizontal lines.
The biggest issue is actually when it does display on the home screen and you push the button for more data, it always shows the same message - CHECK THE G7 APP ON YOUR PHONE.
It displays the same message when you scroll through your Apps and press Dexcom G7.
When using the G6 you could see the graph. Please get this corrected on the G7 App.

Widget doesn’t work

2024-01-17

Amongst a couple of other things, the widget is totally broken in iOS 17.2. Dexcom had plenty of time to iron out any kinks with the developer version of the new iOS update, yet didn’t do it. Extremely disappointing.

Also, there are times where DexcomG7 just simply fails to connect to the sensor for hours at a time despite my phone being on my person. The sensor’s size is great, but considering these issues along with the fact they have only JUST connected an insulin pump to the G7, I think I’m going to have to look elsewhere

Dexcom developers, do your job. Dexcom, do your job.

Not a safe medical device App freezes up a lot

2024-02-23

Not a safe medical device for keeping track of insulin doses or what not. DexcomG7 freezes up a lot.
The essence of it is, Dexcom’s has an inability to keep their app up-to-date with new versions of Apple iOS. (Which I like to do because of security warnings from Apple)
So basically, Dexcom blames the user of their app for the freeze ups, crashes, etc. of their own app, because DexcomG7 user has updated their phone iOS to the newest version for security, which then causes bugs with updated Dexcom app.

Here’s my response from Dexcom after many emails back and forth with them.
Hello customer,

Thank you for your response. We have updated your complaint with the information you provided in your response.

Upon checking, the issue causing the "freezing" is the IOS version of the phone. The G7 app at the moment is only tested to work with IPhone 14 Promax that has an IOS version of 15.0.2 up to IOS 17.0. For future reference, we recommend not to update. This is also applicable to Apple watches as well. You can use this link to check compatibility of other devices. If you try to un install DexcomG7 and reinstall it, it may not completely solve the issue because of the compatibility of your phone.

Bad widget since update

2027-11-28

My widget stopped working after this past update.

Do not buy if you used G6 inserted on abdomen

2027-12-30

Very disappointed that after using G6 for many months successfully on my abdomen they introduce an “upgraded” product and don’t even disclose that you can no longer install it on your abdomen. It’s literally nowhere in the paperwork. It doesn’t even say don’t install on abdomen. However, if you do install on your abdomen it voids the warranty and “may not work properly.” This is fine for new customers but completely disregards existing clients that are transitioning from G6 to G7. I don’t like to have a medical device showing on my arm where I have to explain what it is every 5 minutes. Or if I’m at an event and wearing a nice outfit but have this device on my arm. So now I’m stuck with all this product and I either have to use it on my abdomen and void the warranty or I have to have it on my arm.

Update: I just went ahead and used the G7 and I am having the same issue with frequent loss of signal as reported in other reviews. Early this morning I got a lost signal alert while I was still sleeping in bed and my phone was right next to me on my bedside table. I am also getting the alerts multiple times a day even when I am in the same room as my cel phone.

Still awful; app force close

2028-01-30

DexcomG7 not forces closure immediately upon opening.
I wrote a review listing all the problems and I see it is no longer available to add to it. And no one responded to all the problems. 1. The no signal notification alarm goes off while I am talking on the phone, while the phone is in my pocket and while it is on my nightstand at 4 am. 2. The medical tape disk you have to add on top of the tape already attached to the sensor is so thin it curls up as soon as you remove the clear backing and even after you straighten the tape with tweezers so it can be applied to your arm, as soon as you try to use the tape it curls up on your arm and you have to add your own bandages to make sure it is secure. 3. You cannot see your previous key readings such as in the morning before eating because the graft is not interactive. You can only see your current reading. 4. The meals entry only allows you to enter carbs and not your actual meals. You have to use notes if you want to log your meals . 5. I see warning messages that DexcomG7 is not ready and still in testing and that I should take finger stick readings to ensure accurate data. 6. Need a way to turn off the audible alarm without DexcomG7 failing to work. There are times when sound is rude and disruptive to yourself and others.

Extremely unreliable

2028-03-02

While the g7 is much smaller, lighter, and more comfortable to wear than the g6 it’s reliability renders it borderline useless. If you use your phone for business calls or work in a quiet environment the g7 is not for you. DexcomG7 requires you to enable (loud obnoxious) critical alerts to function whatsoever. If you disable critical alerts then DexcomG7 won’t function until you reactivate them. The critical alert alarm will blare on the phone’s speaker over an active phone call you may be in. The worst part about the g7 is actually the connectivity to the sensor is extremely unreliable! 90% of the loud alarms (critical alerts) will be to notify you (and everyone else around you who hears them) that their has been a signal loss. DexcomG7 will
lose signal while the phone is inches from the sensor. The signal loss does not seem to have any correlation between the location of the phone and sensor when it “loses signal”…. except for when you put your phone in the pocket on the opposite side of the g7 sensor or move more than a few feet from your phone. When a signal loss occurs I am lucky if it is only 20-30 minutes of connection loss down time, often it is 2+ hours of signal loss before it finally reconnects.

Poor connectivity and very jumpy graph

2028-04-03

Since I switched to G7 (from G6), my app says ‘lost signal’ frequently even when I’m within 10 feet, let alone their range of 20 feet.
I’m on my third G7 sensor right now, and it seems like my blood glucose response to even the tiniest amount of carb (I mean like 5 grams) will create a very high upward swing. At first I thought something changed in my body and I suddenly got super sensitive to carbs, but now I’m realizing looking at all my previous blood glucose graphs (I’ve been using levels app to maintain BG data for a year now - it takes data from dexcom and maintains it in a MUCH more usable way unlike dexcom apps, but it requires a yearly payment to maintain subscription) that my blood glucose response changed literally the day I switched to the g7 sensor. The graphs now are very jumpy. Even after eating eggs or almonds alone which used to be a super steady graph for me now sees a 15-20 mg/dL frequent jumps. I don’t know if I received a bad 3-pack but I’ll be starting my second 3-pack soon, so hoping it was just a bad batch and the next sensor will perform like the g6 (only assuming it was a bad batch because people on Reddit were saying there were bad batches etc)

Extremely disappointed

2028-05-03

At first I was excited to switch over, I pre-ordered my g7 so it arrived and I was one of the first to try this. I read the reviews that the widget feature is not out yet. However, I decided to continue to use DexcomG7 . When I go low at night it does not alert me like it did with the g6. I have focus modes, all setting are the same as the g7. This is critical and the only reason I woke up in the middle of the night recently while dropping is because clarity alerted a cousin of mine. This is a huge risk for the safety of users. Again, it’s not a user error of app permissions. As a software engineer and someone who develops technology daily, I’ve checked all permissions, notification settings, and focus mode settings on the later iPhone and g7 app but it still fails to alert like the g6 did. I love the warm up times and the readings seem accurate and the notes feature is something I’ve always wanted. But without critical alerts even through my phone I don’t think I can continue to use this without the bare basics.

App Will Not Let Me Calibrate

2024-08-25

It has been over a month, at least 4 G7 sensors. First, lots of incorrect readings with the incessant beeping saying I am low when I'm not, so I have to calibrate way too often, then, out of the blue, DexcomG7 locks up and says it's still 'saving my last calibration' and won't let me calibrate anymore. I have to totally delete DexcomG7 and go through the entire process of watching videos and all that to get it restarted so I can use the calibrate feature again. I've used these since the G5 and can't believe how absolutely terrible my G7 experience has been. I was up all night long with it going off, poking my finger and learning I'm ok, but there's nothing I can do with the sensor. I finally closed DexcomG7 and somehow it turned itself back on because I was awakened by the incessant beeping again. The tech team says call immediately but that means bad sensor. How??? Seems to me it's a problem with DexcomG7 that it keeps locking up after a few calibrations are entered. Even worse if it is the sensors because this will be at least the 5th, if not the 6th, that I have to constantly calibrate because readings are off. It's just been the last 4 sensors where I lost the capability to even calibrate. I am 'this close' to changing to libre after all these years!!!!!

Direct to Watch failure

2024-08-25

The Direct to Watch, removes all previous Watch features. No longer is there any Watch face widgets. Which removes the ability to view glucose’s reading privately. Now for some reason the Software Engineers, think rotating the Watch crown till you come to “Dexcom G7” then press the Watch app while friends and colleagues are watching offers you privacy! The reason I choose the G7 CGM instead of the Libre CGM was because you have to raise your phone to your arm to get a read. With the Dexcom I use be to glance at the widget window on the watch face and see my read in a small ⅛ bubble. This feature was removed. Now DexcomG7 show a full screen the brightly colored. Also the phone app and watch do not have the same limits. The Direct to Watch software goes off with reads at weird times. Not highs or low, just random stuff. I’ve deleted DexcomG7 on my phone and watch. If I can’t have privacy. Then I’ll just go back to using my glucose meter. Sad cause I really enjoy my CGM and the discreetness that it gave. Since DexcomG7 update, I have stopped wearing the G7 and have gone back to glucose meter. Waiting on a fix.

Data data everywhere but not a bit to see

2028-05-22

Lots of reports that you can’t read on your phone. You will never be able to compare two data points from two different days e.g. 9pm Thursday and Friday. Not being able to see more than 24 hours of data points is ridiculous. Why gather all this data and not allow the user to see it. The UI on both the G7 and the Clarity app need to be available for the Mac and all of the data needs to be available as well as be able to be seen clearly. One important use of this could be behavior mod. But not if you can’t see all the data points. I did lots of finger sticks before. But at least I had historical data for as far back as I wanted to see and compare. Not a fan. It looks to me as though once they got Jonas to market it they gave up. And to be honest lots of old eyes are trying to use DexcomG7 and no concern for apaptability has been made. But just get an app for the Mac and that would be solved.

Bugs

2028-06-23

When this sensor works it is great, but I keep having problems with DexcomG7 . It sends me an urgent alert that I need to turn on critical alerts in the settings, but then when I click through to turn on those critical alerts there is no option to do so. I have turned on all the alert options I have for DexcomG7 and still I get the message to allow critical alerts in the settings. It is preventing me from pairing my new sensor right now. I thought that this might be a temporary bug with DexcomG7 , but it has been a recurring issue for the past few weeks. It makes me worry that I will have to waste a sensor because I cannot get DexcomG7 to allow me to pair it. If this issue can be resolved I would give DexcomG7 a very high rating, but with the current issue with being unable to turn on critical alerts and thus being able to get past the notice, DexcomG7 is behaving like a lemon. I have updated DexcomG7 , and I have the latest operating system and security updates. This is very disappointing.

Poor communication

2024-09-24

The software has very poor communication between the iPhone and the watch. You’ve added the watch as a stand alone to the phone but I find it will work well for a few day the then just become unpaired. Talking to dexcom they want to stop and reinstall the software on both the phone and watch. I explain by doing this I loose the last 5 days of this sensor. Then I’m told the software isn’t up to date. The watch is suppose to be at 10.6 but there only works up to 9.5. So why is there a incompatibility? And of course nobody has an answer for that. I’m so fed up with Dexcom and the excuses. They throw sensors at it like that’s gonna correct. The problem. I might get one or two that work for the full 10 days I get them to wear. They’ll quit at nine days eight days, take your pick. I guess if I didn’t need it I wouldn’t be worried. They do have some good parts but lately all I’m finding is a lot of bad things. I’ve tried to get a hold of the supervisor to find out what’s going on and all you do is sit on hold till you finally get disconnected. I’m done.

No Widget! Less customization. Hold off on moving to G7.

2028-06-08

There is no widget and Dexcom says there is no estimate for when a widget will be added. This means you cannot see your glucose with a single swipe on your phone. To see your glucose you need to go to DexcomG7 , which can take multiple clicks and swipes on your phone, and is very bright compared to the Apple widget screen (not great for when at a movie or in the middle of the night). Cannot customize target range. Why??? DexcomG7 is slower to respond to alerts, and the snooze doesn’t always work, resulting in having to acknowledge an alert repeatedly. G7 is nice for the smaller size, but that’s it. DexcomG7 isn’t as intuitive to use as G6. Something as beneficial as the widget should have been figured out before releasing G7. I will be going back to the G6 until bugs are worked out. I shouldn’t have jumped in with all the hype.

My 2 year old on the G7

2028-07-09

It has NO RANGE. There is absolutely no device I can attach to my 2 year old so this awful sensor doesn’t lose signal. My phone is never close enough (even when I’m sitting 2 feet away from him). my phone is the only thing I’m using as a receiver right now, as this is brand new to us. We had the G6 on first, and I had absolutely zero connectivity issues.

At this point, I’ll have to return to the G6. Who on earth could manage their blood glucose when your signal goes in and out so much. Since we got the G7 yesterday, I have actually gotten readings only a handful of times. It literally NEVER has a signal. This is an absolute awful product, especially for young children. What can I possibly keep attached to my two-year-old so the monitor has something to send readings to while also being able to see it on my phone, the person actually doing the monitoring.

Complete garbage.

The G7 is not Convenient…

2028-08-10

I have been using the Dexcom G6 for the past 5 years and it wasn’t until I started using the G7, I realize there are a number of features I have rely on heavily each day. First off all Apple Watch faces should have the Dexcom complication instead of restricted to only a few. The Dexcom widget was so helpful. Always on my phone screen where as now I have to go into DexcomG7 to view my glucose level. I also do not understand why I am now unable to use low power mode nor screen time where as before it wasn’t an issue. I realize I can connect the receiver and just use that, but this now removes the convenience of the apps sharing information I can give to my provider. Dexcom can you please work on these changes ASAP? I was excited to switch to the G7 and now I’m regretting it. P.s. I no longer can use Siri to read my glucose level. Great. Thanks for that… really doing a stellar job.

Signal is always lost and readings are questionable.

2028-09-10

I honestly feel like the guinea pig for trying the G7. I have a lost signal more often than I actually have a valid reading. I can literally be 2 feet from it, and it will lose the signal. While I know there’s a variance between using the G7 and using an Accumeter for example, the difference is so wide, even after calibration. If you go any place where it’s very busy, like a stadium, plan on having no signal for the ENTIRE time you are there. This has happened three times now. I also don’t like having to place it on my arm. I’ve bumped it on doorways, car doors, caught it on shirts, slept on it. I don’t even know how this is supposed to track anything accurately in order to give readings to my doctor. I feel like this wasn’t ready to market, yet I have to pay absorbent prices at the pharmacy to get it. I’m probably going to go back to the fingerstick and sore fingers because this is not reliable, which is a safety issue.

Sensor issue abnormal high reading

2028-05-25

Just starting using the Dexcom G7. The first day it seemed to work ok although I felt like my readings were high. On the third day getting abnormal high readings without eating and then huge spikes up and down since noontime eventually it shutdown with error message “brief sensor issue” do not remove sensor wait three hours. The reading was 275 when it shutdown and it just came back on with a reading of 325 but I feel totally normal. Hope Dexcom figures this out paid a lot of money for this sensor.

Disappointing

2028-06-26

The G7 app lacks the widget feature present with the G6. Additionally, the graph in landscape mode appears to be lacking the scroll feature that the G6 has. Those are just the application issues, the accuracy of the sensors have been a major issue as well.

Very disappointed in phone compatibility

2029-02-05

We are not rich people. It’s bad enough that the only CGM that our insurance will allow is this one, that is the most expensive one. First we find that my husband’s phone, a Samsung A42 5G is not compatible. THEN, after we found an old iPhone SE (2020) to run DexcomG7 on, we find out 20 days into this that we will no longer receive Dexcom G7 app updates (because the iPhone we have cannot be upgraded to the IOS version that you now require (which wasn’t the case 20 days ago). We shouldn’t have to pay for a receiver when we already have to fork out an exorbitant amount of money for each sensor.

DANGEROUS INCORRECT READINGS

2029-03-09

This product started out ok when I first started using it and now I’m the last month or so it is constantly telling me my blood sugar is almost 200+ and at night I get critically low readings and I’m constantly having to poke my finger and my glucose is nowhere near the readings the Dexcom gives my blood sugars can go from 110 to 188 in 5min the 5min later it’s back down to 88 what’s the point of this device if I’m having to poke my finger constantly and the calibrate the Dexcom and more than half my calibrations are not used I would not recommend this device until these problems are fixed I’ll be reverting back to the libre 3

Please fix it

2029-04-15

I am on my 6th g7 sensor. First one went 10 days not a single issue. Since then I have had 4 failures within 7 days after battling "brief sensor issue" of insertion and just removed the 6th because it has been reading critcal low all day with perfect glucose levels and will not accept calibration. They cost to much money to be this defective. Considering going back to g6 as I am not sure if they will keep replacing them. Love every upgrade on the sensor but it has to work. I pay $110 dollars for every one so a little but of a head scratcher that they are having so many issues. I never write reviews on anything but this is ridiculous.

Alerts are way too obnoxious

2029-05-14

DexcomG7 causes too much hair pulling stress in the middle of the night. For some, it may be necessary to be rudely and suddenly awakened by some obnoxiously loud sound with no obvious control of volume. All the alert tones are annoyingly stressful and loud, even the “soft” tones. And, the “silence all” option only lasts for six hours. This apps alerts causes me more headaches than using a vice for a pillow. The icing on the cake is that turning off the alerts in the iPhone settings threatens to cripple DexcomG7 with the “Immediate Action Required” pop-up. So, there is no relief from these horribly annoying alerts that often occur when installing a new sensor. Several nights, I’m up all night being woken and “ALERTED” of a urgent low ‼️ when my levels are just fine; it’s just the sensor adjusting itself. It kinda make me not want to use this system, at all. I should have direct control on how much drama these alerts cause myself or others. These alerts will certainly turn heads, so forget about any medical privacy.

Never is connected… worse the the G6

2029-07-26

I was unimpressed with the G6 app and it’s connectivity issues. When I called support services I was told it wasn’t able to keep up with apples updates and therefore had a hard time supporting the software of the newer phones.
So when the G7 came out I was excited to get is… assuming this would be fixed. It was not.
Literally 80 percent of the time I have a signal loss. It’s useless for my phone and watch.
I have to report to keeping the receiver with me all the time. It does update the stored info once it reconnects but that’s a little useless after the fact.
Not to mention in the last 6months of using this I have had 6 sensor failures.
The only upside is if u contact Dexcom the send you a replacement sensor and a box x to return the malfunctioned sensor.
It is not discreet by any means. It is smaller then the G6 in size but you have to wear a huge over patch (provided) so it becomes just as noticeable as the G6 if not more so. It takes up more arm space then the G6.
It’s also not approved to be used with a pump if your are a type 1 and use a pump(I do not).
It does have a 12 hour grace period so u don’t need to lose sensor (by changing it early) time if it will end at an inconvenient time.
It also keeps you average glucose time but that’s nothing you don’t get at your three month A1c so it’s not a real plus for most.
So many down sides… I will be switching back to the G6

Unacceptable sound options

2024-05-23

This is a pretty decent app, but it’s extremely difficult to live with. It completely takes away your ability to have a silent phone. You can set alerts to vibrate, and turn off your sound, but it will still sometimes override and blare alerts. You MAY NOT disable critical alerts, and you can’t use ‘silence all’ for more than 6 hours at a time - not even enough for single nights sleep (also, when silence all elapses it won’t revert to vibrate). One of two things are mandatory changes:
- allow a true silent mode, indefinitely
- disable critical alerts

Put the user in charge, not beholden to some developers/product-managers/lawyers view of what should happen. Make me click through scary warnings, fine. But ultimately this is a currently a user-hostile app, only possible due to a desperate need for CGM data and people being locked into an option

Partially Functional

2024-04-05

Generally the interface of DexcomG7 is good, clear and straightforward, like the G6 app. My main concerns are:

1. The ability to dismiss the reminders that notifications are turned off. I use the Tandem X2 pump’s notification system as I prefer their sounds and options and I don’t want multiple instances of the same notification. The constant reminder every time I open the G7 app is annoying at best. I use the G7 app primarily for the watch complication, and I would prefer the option to disable these reminders if they’re enabled on another partner app.

2. DexcomG7 freezes on the Connections page, so I cannot connect it to Apple Health or any other monitoring partner functionality. Currently it’s throwing a “Server Error” pop up when it feeezes, but even that can’t be dismissed or interacted with. This is a new development, but this desperately needs a fix.

Feels a little like a downgrade

2024-09-21

I used the g6 for years and after “upgrading” I feel like I’ve been downgraded on a lot of features. While I love the actual g7’s device size, painless insertion and included transmitter and tape, the actual readings are spotty and not as uniform as the g6. I also don’t like that there’s not a widget option for the Lock Screen like before. That was an easy way for me, or someone who doesn’t have my phone password, to quickly see what my readings were without completely opening my phone. DexcomG7 never uses my calibrations, even when the readings are anywhere from 10-30 points off. The calibration sometimes gets stuck saying “still processing” days after entering it, preventing me from calibrating again. I find myself checking my blood with a meter way more than the first day calibration needs of the g6. I’m hoping Dexcom figures this out soon because I’d hate to go back to the huge and sometimes painful g6 to have good readings again, or to have a practically designed sensor that doesn’t give consistently accurate readings.

A significant downgrade in quality from the G6 app

2024-06-28

I get it, developing medical tech is hard and the UI/interfaces for the device itself comes secondary. But these are pricy devices and the software is lacking
The G6 app was much, much better (but far from flawless itself).

G7 sensor is great and I love it but there is no reason why the sensor improves generation by generation, while DexcomG7 gets worse.

Actionable feedback for the devs

Feature requests:
- [!!!] Bring back the widgets. Hate having to unlock my phone just to check my glucose levels.
- [!!] can we have oauth or some better way to use Dexcom share? I get logged out randomly which is whatever but I hate having to a separate account. I’d understand if this is for compliance reasons though.
- [!] Clarity should be merged into the sensor application or be coupled more tightly.
- [?] A public & documented API would be nice. I don’t want to reverse engineer endpoints or hook up share in some hacky way for writing integrations with other services or my own programs.

Bugs:
- app initialization is flaky. It will take ages at times and be instant at others. This could be caused by low power w/ no background refresh but I’d still like a way to have it be fast regardless
- random crashing during initialization. Not sure why, didn’t even ask me to file a report. I assume the telemetry already collects that but it’s somewhat frequent of an issue

Disappointed in Safety

2024-04-11

I fully understand how to use DexcomG7 , and how to make sure that alarms are not silenced. However, one of the key differences in this version of dexcom is that there is still no widget available to quickly view and display the blood sugar reading. Previously, there were more guidelines put in either via the FDA or dexcom itself, that you would not be silencing alarms, or able to quickly view blood sugar data unimpeded. In future updates it would GREATLY, improve the lifestyle and freedom of other diabetics to be able to quickly view their blood sugar without needing to unlock their device and separately open the Dexcom G7 app. This sounds minor, but it’s some thing that would greatly improve just the ability to access and peace of mind of the user. Just some thing that I have noticed in the few months that I’ve been using this system that would help tremendously as it is reductive.

Initially good, then problematic and inaccurate

2024-06-28

I’m currently on day 8 of my first G7 sensor, which is my first foray into CGM. The first 4 or 5 days were pretty good. Didn’t have much in the way of signal dropout on my iPhone 15 Pro on iOS 17.1.1. My Apple Watch Series 9 showed two bars about as often as it showed a number, however.

Accuracy was good initially, usually within 10% of my calibrated finger stick readings, more importantly, the trends were reliable. Starting around day 5 or 6, however, readings became increasingly sporadic, with multiple instances of signal dropout. More concerning, the accuracy of both the readings, and the trends, are becoming increasingly inaccurate.

My latest finger stick was 90, at a time the Dexcom G7 showed a reading of 180. Hopefully this is just an issue with this one sensor aging prematurely.

The software is rudimentary at best. You can’t scan back more than 24 hours. One should be able to scroll through at least all the data from the current sensor, preferably 30 to 90 days. Meals can’t be named, they are just saved as “Meal” with total carbs input. They don’t show up on the graph, only on a separate tab.

Yes, there are third party apps that can do a lot of this, but it would seem that these basic functions should be available in the native app.

If my second and third sensors perform better, I’ll add an additional star, bringing it up to three. The software needs a lot of work to deserve more than that.

Widget doesn’t work since 17.3.1

2024-04-05

The widget on the lock or home screen no longer works. This started occurring after upgrading from 17.3 to 17.3.1.

I called Dexcom support and they only support 17.1.2 as the most recent supported iOS

Since rolling back to an update, that is over three months, old is not practical, I guess I have to unlock my phone, and open DexcomG7 anytime I want to check my glucose

Also, I’m on month seven of using Dexcom G7, I find the software lackluster and the alert very annoying. I’ve had multiple bad sensors, if I had been hooked to an insulin pump without some sort of intelligence, I would probably would’ve died as sometimes the unit would bounce back and forth between low and high readings. The “pressure lows” are really annoying when trying to sleep.

I used to have the Eversense 3month sensor, and then the 6month (E3) sensor. I really preferred that technology, much better, because it was far more accurate, less erratic readings, and the software alerting was far superior to the Dexcom system.
Don’t get me wrong, there are drawbacks to the Eversense system, and many people it would not be a good fit. But I liked it, I liked it much better than Dexcom, but my insurance does not cover it, so I must stay with Dexcom for now.

Buggy and unreliable

2024-04-05

While the G7 system has some user experience improvements like a faster start time and easier infusion, both DexcomG7 and the sensor/receiver interface is horrible. I never once had issues with the g6 application, and the slight improvements in hardware do not make up for the poor software performance.

DexcomG7 works less than 1/2 the times I go to open it - most of the time it simply refuses to launch and I have to manually close then reopen the application several times before it ‘catches’. When I do get it open it takes up to 30 seconds for it to ‘update’ and show my current readings. Beyond this, my phone/receiver is constantly losing connection to the sensor despite being less than 20 inches away, while other Bluetooth devices run fine at 50ft+

Multiple issues need to be resolved for this system to be with continued use

Sensors fall off; hate the activity tracker in app

2024-09-24

I have been using the g7 for about three months, so I feel like I’ve given it adequate time. I “upgraded” from the g6 for the benefits many did - shorter warm up period, longer wear, and smaller sensor. In only 3 months, I’ve had to have 3 sensors replaced; 2 fell off within a few days and 1 failed during the warm up. Because the sensors are smaller, there’s less surface area to stick to your body. HATE that, especially in the summer. Calling Dexcom for a replacement, or using their online form, has also gotten progressively more inconvenient and annoying over the many years I’ve been a Dexcom customer.

Also with the g7 app, it freezes on me. And my LEAST favorite thing about it, though it seems minor, it’s still a nuisance. The activity button makes you slide for “duration” using increments of 5 min, but it’s SO ANNOYING to get it on the amount of time you want. Why did they make this unnecessarily frustrating? Just leave the sliding numeric option like the start time.

I’m strongly considering switching back to g6 when my stock is out.

Ugh

2024-09-21

The most recent update broke the widget... the widget is completely blank now and I have to click into DexcomG7 to see what my numbers are.

The widget chart over the past few weeks prior to this update was also incorrect. The line on the chart would be 3 hours in the past rather than the current line. For example, it would appear that I was dipping low, but if I looked at DexcomG7 , it would show that I was dipping low 3 hours ago and was currently 145 and steady.

Also, every single time I get a low alert, double alerts come through in slightly different sounding tones. It will make the noise and say I'm 66 ↘️, then .5 seconds later it will make the noise again and say I'm 66↘️...both alerts wanting me to acknowledge them on the screen.

It's extremely difficult to log the amount of time you're doing a workout. It requires a lot of precision to get to the right number. Also, it really annoys me that it won't let you move the time to the future. I would like to log things accurately, but if it's 4:20 and I'm at a yoga class that starts at 4:30, it won't let me say my activity starts at 4:30. It will only let me put 4:20 as the start time. The odds of me remembering to go back and input it after the workout is over are slim.

I like that they've attempted to add clarity info into DexcomG7 , but it's very buggy. It takes ages to load, and often refuses to load anything for certain time periods, like 90 days, even though I've worn g7 since May 2023.

Server crashed and erased all of my data

2024-05-23

Why, why would you make an app for a device tied to closed loop insulin delivery system that can just crash and then erase not only all of my data from last 5 months since I upgraded to the G7, but also the peace of mind I’m supposed to have having it tied to my Tandem pump. DexcomG7 just stopped working. Then it forced me to sign in. Then it said I didn’t have an account which I have had for years. So I had to create a new account with the same info. Only to have to put a new sensor in (after just putting one in the day before). Again, this is tied to my insulin delivery system.
I’m traveling. My wife can no longer get notifications. I have no alarms that I’m use to while sleeping in a hotel alone. Not to mention I have to have an additional sensor overnighted to a hotel now.
Why would you just restart an app like that without warning people? What is wrong with you?

Glitches upon glitches

2024-05-23

As someone who works in wireless sales, I know my way around hardware and software. The Dexcom G7 app falls short in multiple ways, specifically connection issues and app glitches. I am sporadically losing signal on my iPhone 15 Pro and have called tech support at least 3 times to file tickets regarding my poor experiences. A new issue I have with G7 that just started today is DexcomG7 immediately prompting me to log in (I never logged out) and then taking me to a dead link web page when I click log in. This is after todays sensor change and a network settings reset just for safe measure. I’m not sure why the Dexcom team can’t get it right after 7 iterations of CGM technology. I never had these issues with Freestyle Libre and if it wasn’t for American insurance and pharmaceutical companies jerking everyone around, I would still happily be using that system. Hopefully Dexcom gets it together.

Dexcom doesn’t care about their end users

2024-10-11

Dexcom is such a great example of a company whose employees clearly don’t actually use their product and that doesn’t care customer feedback. They should have raving fans with a product that is a game changer, but they can’t do the simple things to make customers like their product. I love having a GCM and it’s changed my life, but somehow every day I’m frustrated by your products be delighted. It’s frustrating because they’re small things that every other tech company can do easily- ex. dark mode is not hard. Launching direct to watch is great, but after over a year they only have a complication on one type of watch face. Much smaller apps and developers get this right immediately or soon after. Dexcom, I promise you if you create and actual product that customer like, you will sell more of your product as more people ask for it from their doctor. Only utilities ignore the fact that customer experience matters and impacts revenue. Do better please. You should be embarrassed by your consistently low app score. Woof.

Frustrated - Widget

2024-04-23

I just switched from G6 to G7 and was looking forward to a more stable improved experience. Overall the G7 app is sleeker and nicer than the G6, but the widget, which was HUGE part of my life for G6 is barely usable with G7 (doesn’t auto-update). G6 had 2 widgets - an older one that was excellent, and a newer one that did not work (same updating issue). G7 has continued with the newer widget only that doesn’t work…. Which means that every time I want to check my BG, I need to grab the phone, login, pull up DexcomG7 for everything to refresh. Why 2 out of 5 stars? Because while the hardware for Dexcom has been A+ over my years of using it, Dexcom continues to let their app experience lag, evident by average user rating for both G6 and G7. I expected my experience with G7 app to be better than G6, or at least the same, but we’ve lost a significant feature… sigh.

Home Screen seems cluttered

2024-06-07

Coming from the G6 app, the G7 Home Screen seems messy. Keep in mind: I check this 30x per day. The only info I want from it when I’m checking my blood sugar IS my blood sugar. So when there’s all kinds of additional info for my 14 day average and other things on there, it only gets in the way. Please, simplify the Home Screen. Additional info is cool and all, but put it on a second screen.

Secondly, if I’m going low AND it’s at a fast pace, it’s wildly obnoxious to get a “low alert” and a “low glucose soon” alert to tell me I’ll be at 55 or less in a few minutes. Please don’t make me hit “ok” twice for anything. I cannot stress that enough. Give me the option to say “ok” to 2 warnings at the same time.

Low blood sugars are frustrating, and I know when they’re happening. When I have to hit ok twice in DexcomG7 the acknowledge that my blood sugar is low, and it makes a lot alarm both times, it drives me off the wall.

iPhone 15 Pro Max upgrade and Dexcom 7 not working

2030-12-20

I lived this all before upgrading to the new iPhone 15 Pro Max. It was working beautifully until the ios 17 update. It keeps reeling me to update the options to critical. It keeps going to the screen telling me to open iPhone settings and turn on critical alerts.
How can this be fixed on my end? Do I uninstall and reinstall DexcomG7 ? Please advise !!!

App not working properly/bad sensor

2024-06-23

I got my first bad sensor my first three were fine but my current problem is DexcomG7 , must be a new bug from the most recent update because i now can’t calibrate it and haven’t been able to for five days which is a problem because I’m pregnant. It’s bad because i need accurate readings so i can take my rapid insulin, if my blood sugar is low and DexcomG7 is telling me it’s high that’s not good for a normal diabetic. What makes it worse is I’m pregnant doing that doesn’t just have the chance to harm me but my unborn baby if my blood sugar is actually high and is above 200 my baby is also having high blood sugar if it’s low like 56 than she is also have low blood sugar so if I take my insulin at the wrong time because DexcomG7 is not telling me correctly that’s a serious problem. PS:And I can’t use my glucose meter because my insurance is covering for the Dexcom they are only covering one strip a day and my strips are expensive.

Missing widget feature

2030-06-18

Old Dexcom G6 widget feature on the Home Screen as well as the complication on the Apple Watch are non functional. Please get these fixed! They mean a lot to us diabetics and are part of our everyday lives.

App has issues staying connected

2031-03-26

App will disconnect even when phone is less the 2 feet from transmitter. It goes off all night long, every 15-30 minutes then stops and works correctly for a few hours then disconnects again and starts beeping again.

Very difficult to get any sleep.

Update broke Apple Watch app

2031-05-24

The most recent update broke the watch app. It often does not show readings or shows large gaps in readings. Also, the watch app now is able to scroll, which makes it less easy to use. It should just be one non-scrolling screen. One tap now changes the graph (used to be two).

The iPhone application is the same as usual. A few things: changing alert settings while low triggers an alert which kicks you out of the settings pages. I get low alerts when crossing back into range (e.g. low -> in range). Often, notifications for low alerts show the previous reading.

The G6 app is much better designed

2031-06-14

The graph has fewer tick marks and is less readable. The widget is tiny - with the G6 I was able to get a larger one that could expand to show the graph as big as it is in DexcomG7 . And it no longer has the “always sound” setting and says that low power mode might somehow interfere with the function of DexcomG7 , when G6 never had that problem. I’d honestly rather switch back to G6.

Always loses connection during exercise

2031-07-16

BEWARE. The G7 app loses connection during any moderate exercise including walking, running, and biking even with the iPhone on your person. No problems during sleep but exercise is the other key event where this needs to work and diabetics are at risk for low blood sugar events. How was this approved?

Going back to the G6 instead. While the G6 is larger, has more warmup time and worse day 1 and day 10 inaccuracies, it worked during exercise and at longer ranges from your phone.

No signal & watch problem

2031-08-04

I have just switched from g6 to g7 very disappointed device will show no signal even when the phone in my hand and DexcomG7 on the watch is awful none of that was happening with the g6.
14 proMax & Apple Watch Ultra

App update broke connection with my Apple Watch

2031-08-29

This update broke the connection with my Apple Watch 8, making that part useless.

It worked before (well, kind of, in the most-basic manner since you MUST also have my phone next to me within range of the Dexcom sensor, instead of it being self-sufficient and able to run on its own, which would be amazing to have versus having to have my phone as well at ALL times of…*everything*, but I will save that for another day).

Now, after doing this iOS app update to your app, my Dexcom app on the watch is just blank and won’t update anymore (have tried restarting it and phone and no luck).

Dexcom G7

2031-09-28

After the latest bug fix I am unable to pair my new sensor.

Watch as a receiver

2031-10-29

Still waiting on the Apple Watch as a receiver. You guys have been promising this all year…

Dark mode

2031-11-30

It would be nice to not go blind when checking DexcomG7 in the middle of the night

Decent App for CGM

2032-01-01

This is not my first CGM as I’ve used other manufacturers for quite some time now. I’ve been using DexcomG7 and CGM for about 3 weeks now and am on my 4th sensor. The first one I used worked but was horribly inaccurate and it eventually lost connection and failed. The second was DOA. The third lasted a few days, had to be constantly calibrated and also started failing to connect. I’ve submitted for replacements and they have been approved. The fourth, which I have on has had to be calibrated twice. Typically the morning readings are off by 10-20 points which makes no sense because it should be a steady reading.

App usage - this is a well thought out app. The sensor reports to your phone and watch via Bluetooth. It connects and reconnects every 5 mins or so per the instructions. Some nice additional features: 1. time stamp on when it connected last. 2. data sheet that will show the history of all the connections and readings that can be exported. 3. Change the color of the grey band on the graph to green so it matches the “range” colors in the bottom. 4. Delete previous Bluetooth sensor connections when new ones are added.

Frequent loss of signal

2032-01-31

I lose signal at least 5 times a day when it is within 2 feet of my iPhone. It also have lost signal permanently twice in the last month. The message about how to reestablish the signal is flawed. The only way that I could reestablish the BT signal after several hours was to delete DexcomG7 and download it again. This meant going through all of the training again. What a hassle.

I am still waiting for the loss of signal issue with my IPhone to get resolved. I have now resorted to keeping the Dexcom receiver device with me at night and charging my IPhone in a distant room. This keeps me from being awakened from the disconnect alarm on the phone while still being able to get an alert in case of a low glucose situation. It is not an elegant workaround, but it lowered my frustration level. I just hope no one needs to reach me at night.

The downside is that I may not know when or if the alert problem is resolved.

Unreliable

2032-04-19

1. Signal loss every day despite always having phone with me and carrying phone on same side as monitor

2. Hate that you cannot get a list of glucose numbers for a given period. All you can see is current number and graph which doesn’t seem very precise. I would like a list of readings.

3. Alarms are inconsistent. Luckily I am not insulin-dependent.

Signal always lost!

2032-05-31

I hate this… half the time I’m checking DexcomG7 to make sure it’s actually working … I could go for hours and not get a notification and once I check it it’s no signal being stuck with my phone all day I don’t understand why it’s constantly loosing signal. I don’t always have pockets to be carrying the other device reader and carrying it in my hand like my phone tends to get bulky in one hand and have seem to misplace it many times thank god never officially lost but why offer an app if it’s constantly off line.. been using it for 2 months already replaced about 5 of them through customer service … FYI you only get 3 every 90 days

Horrible

2032-06-30

I have used a G6 for years and was looking forward to the G7 upgrade. Imagine my shock when I discovered that I needed to upgrade to a different app that does not have all the features of the G6 app.

This latest update has broken the widget AGAIN. Please fix this as soon as possible, because the widget and the watch apps are invaluable to me

G7 Bluetooth Technology Is Useless

2032-08-01

Switched from G6 to G7 2 months ago. I get numerous ‘loss of signal’ notifications daily in spite of the fact my phone is within 2 feet of my sensor. One night I was kept awake by notifications every 5 minutes. My phone was on the nightstand 2 feet away.
Either improve your technology or I quit. Tired of messing with this.
G6 was much better.

I agree with others - it’s bad.

2032-09-01

The interface between the iPhone and Apple Watch is bad at best. The information on my watch is almost never current and often non existent. I thought it might be that I set up the interface wrong or missed something but I can’t find what I did wrong. Instructions are sketchy at best and when I call dexcom they tell me it is apples problem.
This morning the dexcom app had disappeared completely from my Apple Watch.

Bad app

2032-10-03

I have had this only 24 hours and have received 5 alerts stating my phone and Dexcom are not connected. My phone is literally in my hand and the Dexcom’s is in my arm. They are less than three feet apart. I also do not like I can’t print out a report which I can do if I use my glucose meter. When I walk up there isn’t a way to see the actual
Numbers of what happened in the middle of the night. Also the alarm was going off at night even those I was 2 feet away from my phone. This woke me up. You can only silence DexcomG7 for 6 hours yet most people sleep for 8. 👎🏼

Oct 2023 update broke Apple Watch app

2032-10-24

I have loved the move to the g7. Incredible upgrade to my cgm experience from g6. I am rating this two stars for now only because the primary way I like to check my blood sugar is via the Apple Watch app and that has been broken since the most recent app upgrade in October. It will sometimes show the number in the face complication but rarely. If I open DexcomG7 it always says “check Dexcom mobile app on your iPhone” since the update. I’ve tried the usual suspects of rebooting everything and nothing has worked. Very frustrated with it being broken on my watch as my watch is the primary way I check my readings during 5K and longer races where pulling out my phone is much more of a struggle. Please please fix this issue and I’d gladly call this more like 4.5 stars. Still love the product overall. Just fix the Apple Watch issue please! Thank you!

Please fix the critical alarms

2032-11-25

The inability to control the alarm settings so that they don’t go off after acknowledging a low blood glucose reading is a huge drawback. At least with the G6 app I was able to turn off my Bluetooth to stop the critical alarms, but that doesn’t seem to work for the G7 app.
Please fix this!!! Bad user experience :(

Fine, but room for improvement

2032-12-18

The G7 product itself is great, but DexcomG7 needs a LOT of work. Before I delve into any of the issues: yes, I’ve done everything to trouble shoot these problems. Rest assured that this is not user error. - When using the widget (phone locked, swipe over to the left to reveal a drawer of widgets), the G6 would show my blood sugar reading and the G7 does not, so I have to unlock my phone every time - The reading on the widget rarely matches the actual reading. It’s usually 5-10 minutes behind - Alerts are all over the place. Sometimes I won’t get an alert on my phone, but my wife (using the Follow app) will. Sometimes I’ll get an alert, but when I open DexcomG7 , my blood sugar is within range I understand there’s going to be some issues to start, but this is really basic functionality that should’ve been ironed out prior to public rollout.

Frustratingly Fickle

2032-10-23

The good:
-When DexcomG7 and the sensors work, they are great.
-After changing from the g6 to the g7, I love having the sensor on my arm.
-The shorter warmup is great.
-The sensors seem to be much more consistent and accurate than the g6 (using finger stick for baseline).
- Tech support is very responsive and helpful.

The bad:
-In one month, I’ve had a 50% fail rate on the sensors. (Dexcom has promptly replaced them)
-There is no way to add comments to the log events
-There is no way to log other meds such as Ozympic or Manjarou.
- I have multiple connect alerts a day.
--It doesn’t matter if the phone is in my hand, my pocket or the desk in front of me.
— it occurs at home, in the car, at the office, and outside. So it isn’t interference from other devices.
—it happens so frequently, I tend to ignore real alarms
—there is no way to provide feedback outside of the carefully scripted options in DexcomG7 . Devs can’t respond to bugs they don’t get feedback on
- charts should be in app by default. Requiring a user to download them is a bit of a hassle.

Still full of problems

2032-12-10

The sensor is bulky, so is prone to falling off or accidental removal if you bump it or snag it on clothing. It requires a difficult-to-apply, adhesive over-patch to stay on. These patches are difficult to apply with one hand. They easily get folded and stuck together, being ruined. Dexcom only provides one patch with each sensor and will not send you extras. The sensors frequently lose the signal even though it’s only 1-3 feet from my iPhone. The sensors only last 10 days, even if they haven’t failed or fallen off. Dexcom does not update its software regularly, so is uncertain if it is compatible with Apple’s iOS updates. The Dexcom software uses a small, low contrast, gray font that is difficult to read.

Loss of signal

2033-01-11

The g7 app loses signal easily and frequently. Occasionally when I have the iPhone on my nite stand it will crash. It doesn’t show up on my Apple Watch and I have upgraded it to current version. When I tap on it because nothing is showing nothing happens. The initial accuracy is questionable. I’ve had over 100 pt differences in the g7 over the meter. If I am gonna have to double check every reading for 1 to 2 days after installing it kind of defeats the purpose of the thing. I have numerous alerts in the wee wee hours of the morning and when checked with glucose meter found be wrong > 20% difference and calibrated the unit. While the ease of installation is a benefit, the loss of accuracy from the G6 to the G7 is too. I have gone from a relatively straight line glucose readings to an extended period of big peaks and valleys which correspond to my change to the G7.

Fails CONSTANTLY!

2033-01-26

It was a great device and fairly reliable when compared to finger stick readings BUT this device fails constantly. I just out on a new sensor and less than 5 minutes it failed and now I have to use another one. Thank goodness I’m covered by insurance so I pay minimal amount but for those that don’t have that luxury- the product is too expensive to waste sensors because they fail and become unusable!!! Not only that, the sensor will frequently read that it’s none detectable because you’re too far from your phone….when the phone is literally on my hand! This is super annoying! This should be better…

Still needs work.

2033-02-27

The first irritant on this software is the inability to completely turn off notifications. Second is a screen that comes up on a regular basis warning of not using the software for what it’s exactly designed for. You have to clear the screen multiple times and it still keeps coming up. It’s sort of like the screens that you get, when is the new version of a software package. biggest thing is that you can’t really look at your history you can look at the chart you can try to extrapolate what the number is but you can’t actually see what the numbers are. Maybe someday they’ll be ready for prime time.

Poor app design and non-working features make the G7 a no-go right now.

2033-01-31

I’m simply going to have to go back to G6 until these issues get fixed:

1. No home screen widget. This is a significant oversight and makes DexcomG7 unusable as I use it during flight as a pilot. 👎🏻
2. Alert scheduling does not work correctly. I set 11:00pm to 7:00am and every day the schedule starts at 11pm, but ends at midnight and goes back to the normal schedule. 👎🏻
3. App is painfully slow and graph is tiny in landscape mode. 👎🏻
4. Can’t fully mute the alerts even with headphones plugged in. I use it in a broadcast news live on-air situation and the alerts can’t be silent now. G6 was able to be muted by plugging in a headphone so alarms can’t be heard on-air. It’s also humiliating to have alarms going off in meetings and being asked to silence you phone, when you can’t. 👎🏻👎🏻

The good stuff:
30 minute warm-up, smaller size, including the over-patch with each sensor……. All great steps forward. Too bad DexcomG7 makes this new sensor a no-go because of major glitches and oversights. I would be happy to beta test for Dexcom prior to product launch because we could have caught all of this within the first 24 hours of use in a beta.

Not getting notifications for highs or lows

2033-03-04

Love how smaller it is than the G6. Warm up time is way better at 30 min than the G6’s 2 hours. Reading can be off at times for the first two days but seem to settle in 5-10 units off from taking my glucose the old school way. Now I do not get any notifications on my phone when highs or lows are happening. I might have to turn the receiver back on just to verify if it gets any high/low alerts.

Upon further testing, it seems it you deviate from the stock alerts my phone will jot receive alerts. The Dexcom receiver still dead after making changes to alerts. Resetting alerts to stock it works again but I would like to receive vibrating alerts than my phone making noise all the time.

I am not having disconnect problems like others have. I’m on a iPhone 14 Pro Max with the latest update

Dissapppinting

2033-04-04

1) Who decided to attach sensor to back of arm??? Can be difficult/very awkward to place. Directions are very explicit: device must be placed on back of arm. People “2-6 yrs old” may place on buttocks”. No longer an option to place on abdomen. 2) I guess the cost of over patches has skyrocketed! You get one (1) in the box with the sensor/transmitter. They are much more difficult to apply than the G6 patch, particularly on the back of my arm using mirror! When I called DexCom to ask for additional G7 patches I was told that they were “not available”, that I got one with the sensor/transmitter and extras were no longer available as they were with G6. DexCom suggested I “get some medical tape” and use that!!!

Part 2: 😖 There is NO widget on my Apple Watch 8! In checking this out I found that the issue is with DexCom!! Apple Watch 8 has been out since Sept. 2022! Time to “up your game” DexCom. We’re NOT happy!

Not worth it yet

2033-05-06

I switched from g6 to g7 even though I’m an pod 5 user since I always use manual mode anyways. I was excited about the short warmup time and increased accuracy, however my first g7 sensor, which warmed up quicker than the time it said it would take, was so inaccurate for the first 24 hours. All night told me I was LOW and despite entering fingerstick calibrations multiple times, it never adjusted. I was actually in the 120 range and getting all the urgent low alarms overnight was annoying. I’ve been wearing it for 4 days and the accuracy is still not as good as my g6 sensors were. And being pregnant, it’s been frustrating to say the least.

I DIDNT REALIZE THERE WAS NO WIDGET. this is by far the worst thing about changing over and if I would have known in advance (my fault for not doing research I suppose) I would have stayed with g6. My DME provider told me I was eligible for g7 and I figured newer is better. But I was wrong.

Probably the most minor issue: I do not like the new app. I’ve set the alarms to be how my g6 was, and for whatever reason I don’t get the alerts consistently if I just have them on vibrate.

The only pro so far was literally felt nothing on insertion, but the g6 wasn’t painful so that’s not enough of a reason to change. Disappointing and hopefully I can go back to g6 🤪

Useless

2033-06-07

Update from my previous review!! Still USELESS! Get it together developer DexcomG7 is terrible!!! Constant connectivity loss!! I don’t get it???? If you know the biggest issue is connectivity then why not work on that??? Too much twatwaffling going on in regards to this!! You do realize CGM purpose is too constantly monitor???? It’s absolutely ridiculous that the connectivity issue hasn’t been fixed when that’s the major complaint we ALL have! We rely on the CGM! This is our health, our life!! STOP PLAYING GAMES!!! FIX IT ALREADY!!

The g7 app is useless!! I literally have my phone close by and loses connectivity all the time. I’m currently using the rest of what I have left of my g6! I can’t rely on this using g7 because of the constant connection issues! It is absolutely ridiculous! And please don’t respond with “we would like to follow up with you” I don’t need a follow up I need for you to fix the issue!

Alarms don’t sound on time , or at all .

2033-10-09

I have used the G6 ever since in was released. I thought it was one of the best things that has ever happened for diabetics. My A1C has been lower ever since ! But I’m having trouble with the G7 ever since I got it . My very first sensor failed to read, and had Dexcom send me a new one . Then I’ve noticed that it seems the alarms sometimes dose not alert at all as it’s passing the high threshold that I have selected . Not sure if it’s a software or hardware problem, . As of right now the G6 setup in my opinion was functioning better . I only was noticing my sugar was high because it alerted me BECAUSE it lost signal , God I hope it’s a user error . I don’t usually write reviews, I hope this gets straightened out . Thanks .

Calibration issues

2024-02-01

Dexcom G7 works well, when it works. I am having constant issues where I start a new sensor and the new sensor does not start reading properly until day 2 or 3 of the sensor being inserted. Also I am having constant issues with calibration. I add a calibration and later I will need to add another one and it won’t let me because the previous calibration hasn’t “processed” yet. It says to wait 5 minutes for the calibration to “process” at the time of this review it has said to wait 5 minutes for calibration to process for over 24 hours. What’s the point of a glucose monitor if it is inaccurate and cannot be calibrated to be accurate?

Horrible on IPhone 15

2034-02-25

I had this on my iPhone 13 and everything worked perfectly. I Just recently got the iPhone 15 pro max and I have had nothing but issues with DexcomG7 now. First the sensors would not pair. It would take at least 3-4 tries for them to pair. After the recent update, I keep getting “brief sensor issue” constantly. Please fix this.

Pros and Cons

2034-03-29

Well there’s not much good about the Dexcom g7 I feel it’s the same as g6 just smaller and you can’t lose your sencer because you always have to change it. The Dexcom falls off so easily and is barely sticky but not only that the Dexcom g7 is very inaccurate. The g7 showed that my blood was 307 and my pricer showed my blood sugar was 256 and I ever redid the finger print to make sure it was accurate and it was. So in other words the g6 is better and you should stick to g6 until the Dexcom company has fixed these problems with the g7

App Performance is Awful!

2024-02-01

I have been using DexcomG7 since June 23 and initially it was great. The connectivity to my Apple Watch was in sync with minimal disruptions. The data loaded pretty quickly; current values and the various glucose summaries. Then as of the last few weeks DexcomG7 has gone down expeditiously! The amount of times I have a sensor issue with the phone and receiver right by my side is mind boggling. Then the data takes forever (ok more like 10 plus secs) if it even loads at all. What gives?! People are dependent on accurate and timely readings with little to no interruptions to live, literally. Also, why must DexcomG7 remain open? I should be able to still receive readings with DexcomG7 running in the background. If these things are addressed then DexcomG7 will be 5 star!!!

Not comfortable with iPhoneX and new feature is needed

2024-02-01

DexcomG7 (even the current version v1.9.2) is not compatible with iPhoneX with iOS 16.7.4 which is current. Very often user will receive “Signal lost” alert even the phone never be away from the user. It is so annoying. The monitor might have a weak Bluetooth connection. Wondering how this passed the IOT test in SQA. Feature request: Dexcom should add a feature to DexcomG7 to allow user draw the entire monitoring history on the account but not just limited to the data in past 24hrs - Might be I didn’t look into the right place? At least I didn’t see that feature in current design. Since all the data was stored in Dexcom portal I see no reason DexcomG7 can’t retrieve the data unless someone wants to charge a fee for that service.

Clarity issues

2024-01-17

When I first started the clarity portion of DexcomG7 was working good. The data was coming in clear. However, for about 2 months now the data doesn’t come right up when I open DexcomG7 , sometimes it tells me data is not available even though I’ve been using the sensors for well over 6 months now. It’s been terrible recently. I would be using the other sensor on the market if my insurance allowed me to.

Useful but in need of a couple updates

2024-02-01

First off, I wanna say that overall I like the g7 monitor for ease of comfort over the g6.

That being said, there a couple things that would make DexcomG7 a lot better.

Signal loss seems to be a constant, especially after a few days of use. I had to turn off the alert for signal loss at one point because it was going off countless times and waking myself, my wife, and our 6 month old all hours of the night. I’m not sure how to fix that but it can be very frustrating.

I have an Apple Watch and I sorely wish to at the very least, have the ability to see my blood sugar on the watch but all it does is tell me to check my phone for readings so I’m not sure why it even shows up on my watch as an app at all. The g6 app would occasionally show my readings which was great. Also, would be great to be able to customize your watch faces with current readings like you can with the weather/heart rate/etc.

Besides that, I think the device and app are good and I’m grateful for the ability to have a constant reading instead of poking myself.

Pros and Cons

2024-10-11

Recently switched to the g7, and I had high hopes. Certain things are much improved, like the urgent low alarm sound (the g6 urgent low sounded like an air raid siren, so this g7 chime sound is much less jarring). I use the Tandem pump and t:connect app, and I don’t want to have alerts/notifications for the same thing (highs or lows) on two different apps. For the most part I’m able to disable the notifications here since I prefer the tandem notifications, but the constant pop-ups that notifications are disabled when opening the g7 app are quite annoying.

One bug I’ve not been able to deal with that urgently needs a fix is that DexcomG7 freezes when I go into the Connections menu, and it doesn’t respond to any of the options on that screen or clicking into any of the other sections of DexcomG7 either. So in my experience this part of DexcomG7 is useless, and I have to close DexcomG7 and restart to regain functionality. I’m not able to end a sensor when it starts losing accuracy near the end of the sensor life, and I’m forced to wait for the sensor to expire so I can start a new one.

Other than those things, I like the interface and having the Clarity integration into the main Glucose screen of DexcomG7 .

Useful but frustrating

2024-10-11

DexcomG7 itself is works well for me and I like the features it does have. My issues with it are the features it lacks, starting with dark mode. Why, after all these years, is there no support for dark mode?! When I wake up in the middle of the night to deal with an alert it makes it that much harder to see, process, and understand what DexcomG7 is trying to tell me when I'm being blinded by the glaring brightness of this solid white screen. I already set my screen brightness at its lowest level at night and it's still not enough. I don't have this issue with the Tandem t:connect app when I need to use my pump, because they actually implemented a dark mode.

My next issue is with the watch app and how few watch faces the G7 complication even supports. I just updated my watch to watchOS 11 and the photo watch face, which I had previously been using the G7 complication with just fine, no longer shows the G7 as an option. Why????? Why does there seem to be so little support for developing DexcomG7? Why does it take so long to get anything updated in DexcomG7 or to add any features? If the issue isn't Dexcom and instead it's healthcare regulations that are slowing everything down, why can't Dexcom be more transparent and open about it?

Issues

2034-08-24

Like another user I occasionally get an error message that app stopped working because I changed the time when I did nothing of the sort! Very annoying. My main issue is with entering amounts of insulin I take. Normally I exceed the allowable amount for one entry. For fast acting insulin DexcomG7 has a max of 50 units and for long acting insulin the max is 100 units. My normal amounts are 80 and 120 so I must always make 2 entries each time I take either insulin. I would think this issue somewhat easy to fix. There must be a lot of other people with the same issue.

Update:
Talked with customer service. Nice person tried to help. But, data entry problems are up to programmers to fix. So until it gets done I will continue to do multiple entries for one injection of insulin.
Did not bring up the annoying occasional error of claiming I changed the time on my device when I didn’t. That’s for another time.

WHEN it works it’s great !

2034-09-24

I am so torn I am out of stars to give DexcomG7 in the G7 center. As I mentioned above, when it works, it is great. It has helped me change my lifestyle around a lot by being able to monitor my glucose. On the other hand, I can’t tell you how many times my phone can be literally inches away from the sensor and it loses the signal! This happens every single day, and multiple times per day! I have been using the sensors for about four months now. I have already had two DOS sensors , that the company needed to replace for me.

Someone else mentioned how DexcomG7 is a serious pain sometimes! When it loses the signal, as mentioned above, it is a major PIT!!! it has constant loss of signal notifications to both me and my girlfriend. At nighttime, I can temporarily turn this off. It’s sort of defeats the purpose in case something major happens during the time I am sleeping though. Most of the warnings are related to the constant loss of signal alerts. The other warnings with my glucose either being very, high or low, is definitely worth having!

I am torn on how to rate DexcomG7. If I had to deal with the potential, I would give it a five. If I had to do with the reality of what I have been dealing with, I would give it a zero. They are definite benefits to having us. So I gave her three stars.

Good luck to everyone that is trying to control your glucose levels!

Okay When it Works

2024-08-07

I had to switch to the G7 about a month and a half ago after becoming pregnant due to the G6 not being approved for pregnancy. I have used the Dexcom G6 for over 3 years.
I don’t have many signal or connectivity issues, but I feel like the notifications are all over the place. I’ll get a push notification that I’m 61 and dropping but when I open DexcomG7 it’s saying 45, so it seems to be behind sometimes with the notifications. Sometimes they’re loud and sometimes they’re quiet and sometimes I don’t get notified at all. The widget doesn’t display a number most of the time which defeats the purpose.
I enjoy having the clarity summary at the bottom and also like that there’s an option for notes now.
This is about the product, not DexcomG7 . The sensor patch and overpatch are very flimsy and not as secure as the G6. I find the G7 is peeling much quicker, and when I go to remove it the overpatch is very stretchy/thin and difficult to remove in one piece and rips into little pieces.
I really want to like the G7, but I miss the physical structure of the G6 and the consistent notifications.

Product is nice

2034-11-21

OK so the only problem I have with DexcomG7 is I don’t like running it on the background on my iPhone just because it kills my data. You guys need to update it. I don’t want to be running DexcomG7 on the background. I want to be able to close it in re-opening and nothing happens like my sensor being lost just because of that. and another thing I hate when I’m trying to sleep and my sugar is either super low or super high the meter or the phone constantly notifies me which is that it’s pretty annoying when you’re trying to sleep I mean I know my sugar is either low or high but I don’t want for my receiver for my phone to constantly be ringing

Notifications

2034-11-11

I very recently started using the Dexcom G7 and the G7 app (previously used G6). It does lose its signal a lot, but another very annoying issue is the “Phone setting conflict” re:Notifications, that constantly pops up!
I have my settings the way I want them, so I wish I could disable this annoying feature. Otherwise, I am happy to have an app that I can just glance at my phone or watch to check my glucose.

Inserted sensors can vary greatly

2035-01-24

I have had sensors that work with DexcomG7 beautifully. Upon changing to a new sensor, I too often have very unreliable readings for quite some time. I was blaming myself for this but I really don’t think it is anything I am doing. Currently I have a sensor that I have waited 48 hours to attain anything close to accuracy. I’m using as many blood tests as I used without the sensor. This is an important issue for all, but it is literally life and death for me since my sugars fall drastically in very short time intervals. I am so grateful when sensors work, and I dread when I have to replace (which is an easy process) because I can’t count on every sensor to work on a reasonable time frame.
(I have had Type I diabetes for 62 years.)

Lock Screen Widget - Fail

2035-03-05

Have an iPhone 13 Pro on iOS 17 and there is no widget to add to the always on Lock Screen. Dexcom instructions has a process for adding but there isn't a widget to add.

No problem adding to home screen, Lock Screen no go.

Wish I could have stayed with the G6

2024-09-24

First what I like: it’s much smaller than the G6, which is really nice. It also warms up way faster with only 30 minute warm-ups. So you’re not missing as much time. The graph is much easier to read and I really like the summaries of the week; you can change it from 3 hours, 6 hours, and 12 hours. It’s really convenient and not as much fiddling with my phone.

Outside of that, the main purpose for the monitor, is really frustrating. For some reason, it disconnects all the time and takes 30 minutes to reconnect. It’ll tell me it’s because my phone is my than 20 feet away even if it’s literally on me. There’s also more times than not that it doesn’t connect to my watch. When I’m at work, I try to keep my phone in my desk (still right next to it) and it doesn’t connect to my watch. That part is more inconvenience than anything. But the disconnection is very frustrating, especially as I’m trying to track for pregnancy.

Constant connectivity issues

2035-04-28

I was excited to start using CGM to better manage my diabetes. However, DexcomG7 is so frustrating to use! DexcomG7 requires you to be within 20 feet of your sensor to avoid losing signal. Now I’m pretty sure my right arm is NOT 20 feet apart from my left arm where my sensor is attached so I don’t understand why I constantly lose signal. DexcomG7 also does not sync with my apple watch at times. Got the watch in the first place so I can see my sugar levels without whipping out my phone but I end up having to do so 40% of the time. And no, there is nothing wrong with my phone’s bluetooth since I never have connectivity issues with every other bluetooth device connected to my phone. Please fix your app!

Signal loss issues.

2035-08-05

I keep my phone on the same side as the sensor often with in inches of each other and will get signal loss. Or I’m playing a game and it will not have connection to the sensor. I like the quick warmup time. I’d love to see it be able to be like something that can be on the standby. So you can see glucose level when phones charging band in standby mode.

Dark mode?

2035-07-10

Why can’t we get a dark mode on DexcomG7 ?

Signal Loss on iPhone

2035-04-28

Love the accuracy and actually like a lot of the new features in DexcomG7 BUT like others I get signal loss off and on with the iPhone. I am on my second sensor and what I have noticed is that the signal loss issue for me happens when there is a part of the body blocking too much of the path to the iPhone. I sleep on my side so I put the sensor on the stomach. If my phone is on the nightstand at night and my back is to the phone, I get signal loss. If I face the phone when sleeping I don’t. To help reduce the issue I now keep the phone above my head at night on the headboard.

If phone is in my left pocket and sensor is on right side of stomach I get signal loss if phone slides to far to the side of my leg and too much of my leg is between phone and sensor. Move phone to pocket on sane side as sensor and no signal loss. Never had this issue on G6.

Would love to discuss with developers if they reach out to me

Adding events

2035-09-12

I am a new user & sed you can add events. There appears to be an option to add a note but DexcomG7 doesn’t allow me scroll down and click on the + sign to add a note. Would like to see this feature enabled

Just ok right now

2035-07-01

Obviously removing the transmitter allowed them to make the sensor smaller & more convenient, but without a dedicated transmitter signal loss has become a huge problem as 90% of these reviews will attest. I’m typing this review and I haven’t had signal the entire time. Also, if you do lose signal it shouldn’t take up to 30 minutes to restore especially since Bluetooth is instant. I understand they’re working the bugs out, but the connectivity issues likely won’t be remedied unless they substantially improve the internal transmitter. Other parts are better like being able to silence all alerts or having the first alert be a vibrate, that’s all good stuff, but if you don’t receive consistent readings then all the good stuff is for nothing. Thank you.

Smaller sensor is a plus but the app feels like it regressed

2035-07-30

I love the smaller sensor. It has been less noticeable for me over the last couple of weeks than my g6.

That being said, DexcomG7 has lost a feature that has been really helpful for me in managing my diabetes. The lack of the widget in the g7 app means that I cannot readily or as easily glance down to just check my sugar. I now need to pull my phone out and cycle to DexcomG7 in order to check. This can appear very disruptive and disrespectful when at work or not when out as opposed to just looking at your phone as though you were checking a notification.

I’m going to finish out my first 3 months on the g7 but as of right now, I will probably look at going back to the g6 when the script is up.

Not the best but works fine

2035-11-13

Connection issues are a major issue. Being in public , say in a stadium full of people, the connection always drops and won’t come back on unless I relocate.

You still also do not have the option to turn off critical alerts, which is very annoying, considering I know when my blood sugar gets low. I hate the loud beep it has to make, especially when around other people. Living with this every day we should have the option to turn it off and still use DexcomG7 . Just give us a “warning” when turning it off.

Also I noticed DexcomG7 doesn’t update its GUI in the background, or at least it doesn’t display. When you open DexcomG7 , you need to wait 1-2 seconds for the chart to refresh, unlike Dexcom g6. Not a big deal but just a quality of life bug.

Overall DexcomG7 is better than g6, but the things I mentioned above can get very frustrating when you have to wear it every day of your life.

Lacking features that are needed

2024-02-01

First DexcomG7 needs an iPhone widget to let you see the last reading without opening the phone. The have the widget in the watch app. So not having a widget is just unforgivably bad engineering on the part of the coders, pretending to be engineers.

Second, what happened to the ability to turn the phone sideways and run your finger above the graph, to get the glucose level and times of the individual readings. Important information which is now unavailable.

Alarms are annoying

2036-04-14

I hate that DexcomG7 thinks it knows better than me and audibly alarms even though I’ve silenced the phone and turned the alarms off in DexcomG7 . This means I have to exit DexcomG7 to avoid alarms during work meetings and video conference. The alarm also shuts down my video conference calls when they go off. Terrible user experience.

Dexcom 7 Woes

2036-03-20

I!I’ve only had G7 for a couple of weeks. I had two straight sensor failures, false readings, etc

Latest update broke watch

2036-05-27

I recently upgraded from the G6 to the G7. Everything have been working great until this last update. Now if I want to see my readings on my Apple Watch Ultra I have to go to my phone and open the phone and bring DexcomG7 up even if it is open but in background. Please come up w ith a fix for this. I have tried other settings making sure the apps background refresh is active but it doesn’t make a difference.

Great Product, but...

2036-06-28

The Dexcom G7 serves as a valuable tool for diabetes management by regularly monitoring your glucose levels, providing insightful trend alerts to guide dietary choices. I've been a user of the G7 since its launch, and while it's commendable, a couple of issues have arisen. Firstly, the sensor occasionally disconnects, causing frustration as it may take up to 15 minutes to re-establish the connection. Additionally, the widget fails to update automatically, necessitating manual app opening, which undermines its purpose. A more recent concern involves a "Phone Setting Conflict" notification, erroneously suggesting a jailbroken phone, which is not the case. These issues aside, this product would earn a perfect 5/5 rating.

Better than the G6

2036-07-28

DexcomG7 is certainly better than the G6’s, and the device itself is great. My biggest pet peeve with DexcomG7 is that when you have a high blood sugar and get the notification, if you go on DexcomG7 there’s a 1-2 second delay before there’s a pop up with your blood sugar that you have to tap out of. I’ve already read the notification and can read the number on the screen, so it is a little inconvenient, especially when you’re trying to look at the connections or settings tabs and the pop up blocks you from accessing them, only after you’ve tapped on them. DexcomG7 will also occasionally ignore the fact that it’s on silent mode, which can be frustrating during work/school, especially when I’ve already corrected and I’m just waiting to come up/down. Still, it’s significantly more convenient than manually checking, so I’m grateful DexcomG7 exists.

Alert issues

2036-09-25

Prior to the last update did not have any real issues with DexcomG7 .

After the last update am getting signal lost alerts repeatedly. However when I check DexcomG7 it is still reporting my sugar levels. I have even turned on the receiver that I got from Dexcom and compared the sugars on it versus DexcomG7 and yes the sugars are correct in DexcomG7 . This makes me think something within the last update is causing the signal lost alerts to be sent in error.

Also the last update has caused the high and low alerts to not be sent.

I prefer to only use DexcomG7 for tracking my sugars but with it being so unreliable right now and having to begin to use the Dexcom receiver. Would delete DexcomG7 but need to keep it so my wife can follow my sugars.

Reporting Details In Notes

2036-09-24

I wish you could type in more than 140 characters. When writing a note in DexcomG7 . I need to communicate to my Dr more info. Which requires more characters.

DexcomG7 itself has been improved alongside the firmware in the patches. I just wish I didn’t have to disable iOS features. Just so DexcomG7 can “work”. It’s important to be able to use at least the low power mode. Screen time should work too and I shouldn’t have to disable phone features. Just so DexcomG7 doesn’t get confused at all.

Was good..

2036-11-20

Usually works well but just in the last week it is constantly telling me signal lost even though I’m holding my phone in the same hand as the arm my sensor is on. It’s also giving me inaccurate low readings which is unfortunate since I’m tracking my hypoglycemia

Needs a dark screen!

2036-12-21

DexcomG7 badly needs a dark mode. It’s almost dangerous having to open DexcomG7 while driving on the freeway at night to see what my glucose level is at. It’s also pretty bright in the middle of the night opening DexcomG7 to see where my glucose is at.

Not able to add a follower

2037-01-22

I go to add a follower who I removed due to an update now every time I go to add my friend it says server busy try again later this has been the issue for over two months, I try to go to website and no answers. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Still needs a lot of work

2037-02-23

Most of the time y says sensor lost. And it’s in my hand. Just recently inserted a new sensor and it hasn’t found it. This is upsetting because I just can’t replace this if it’s covered by insurance. Bleed a couple times inserting the sensor. Which is new for me coming from the competitor.

Love the product, app still is lacking

2037-03-26

Love the G7!
However DexcomG7 was missing the widget and now with the latest update the widget is there but doesn’t show readings unless you click on it. App could be tested more before the rollout.

Okay app, could be better.

2037-04-27

DexcomG7 is okay, but it could be better. I like that I can add notes and and meter numbers. However, I'm not sure who to talk to, but DexcomG7 is notifying me of a number that isn't the current number. Also I think one should be able to calibrate more than once per hour, especially if the previous one wasn't accepted or the wrong number was put for calibration.

Over patches are a problem.

2037-06-04

It works OK I guess, you could’ve done a better job with the over patch that is required. Very confusing. You can’t tell which side to peel off when you first put it on. You should have markers saying the side down or at least arrows. You make the part you peel off after you put it on sticky so you don’t know if the over patch actually is on or not because when you put it off the remaining part is still sticky. do you know the overpass part that is removed after you put it on it stay sticky so when you feel it with your finger you don’t know if the overpack actually went on or not. the part you remove after it’s been placed over the sensor should not be sticky.

Works sometimes

2037-05-12

Apple Watch Series 6. I always have to tap on my designated Dexcom widget to see my glucose, never just displays on the face. Half the time it doesn’t even show when I go into the watch app.
Still use it, but I wish it worked better.

Everything was good until last week.

2037-06-04

Had a sensor go offline and would not go back. Left it on for a day or so, no reconnection.
Just put on a new one and it failed again while warming up. This was my last sensor.
I had a support tkt ending in #3180 for the last sensor but now will need a refill and wonder how many will fail until this gets sorted out.

Needs to enable force scan

2024-01-17

Came over from Libre and it has a couple more features than what the Libre offers like calibration and insulin tracking. Don’t know if tracking your insulin and carbs does anything to help with the readings. But I wish they had an option to force scan for a more real time reading. With the Libre I could tell it to scan for a current reading. Seems like Dexcom reading is like 5-10mins on delay. So it’s a bit frustrating having to either wait for it to scan again on its own or do a blood strip test for real time reading. Sometimes I forgot I have it on because I don’t have to grab my phone or reader to scan. Also would be helpful if you could get readings past 400. I know if it’s get to 400 you should be doing other stuff asap. But still be nice to read above 400 to track and show my Endo. But over all their development team has been more productive on updates. Libre is always one or two iOS versions behind.

Update! Update ! Update!

2037-06-18

Coming from the Libre 3 device your software is light years ahead of your competitors. However, you both suffer from the same fundamental and crucial issue, app updates! I can’t stress how inconvenient and burdensome that your app is always lagging behind the most recent iOS release. I understand that the new version has to be tested before released out in the wild but there has/need to be more urgency in getting these app updates out to users. We shouldn’t have to make a choice between phone security and managing diabetes. There are major Banks who get there apps out the door on day 1 of release of software updates. I am forced to carry a second phone ( Iphone ) because DexcomG7 doesn’t support the most recent iOS version.

OK so far, but…

2037-07-20

I find it really frustrating how limited DexcomG7 is. It keeps track of my blood sugar readings and lets me enter how many carbs I’ve eaten. Nice, but really insufficient. Being able to note what those carbs were, or how I’m feeling at any given point, would be really useful. If I’m feeling lightheaded, there’s no way to note that, or to track at what levels I get that way. And there’s no way to note if, say, I ate a poke bowl with next to no carbs or a couple of Canada mints. Same carb load, probably different reactions. I’d really like to be able to manage my diabetes in one place, rather than needing to keep track of a bunch of different apps. I found mySugr much more helpful while I was using it.

Have to keep app open…

2024-04-23

I have read through many of the reviews. And while I have had the alarms go off for “disconnected” a handful of times, that isn’t my biggest complaint.

Having to keep DexcomG7 open/minimized so it can continuously update with readings from the sensor is my complaint. Why can’t you close DexcomG7 entirely, and still have it update readings/send notifications like I don’t know - just about every other health app in DexcomG7 Store? The ones I use for my watch will update with exercise etc. Yet DexcomG7 for the G7 can’t? I thought if I had the widget on my Home Screen that would solve that. But no. When I close DexcomG7 by swiping I get notified that DexcomG7 won’t continuously get readings and that I should keep it open and just minimize it while I’m not using it.

Great but could be better

2037-09-19

I love the new app and start up speed. But the lock Screen widget never shows up on the widget list for me to install. Only the Home Screen widget which I don’t find very useful since it’s just as easy to click on DexcomG7 .

I do wish they’d add my score to DexcomG7 icon so I don’t have to click on it to see it just like weather or mail app’s display the date, temp, email count etc without opening them.

Also DexcomG7 does not stay in communication with my iwatch very well. I always have to open my phone, launch DexcomG7 and then it updates my watch. That defeats the whole point of being able to discreetly check my iwatch. By the way I’m in an iPhone pro max 12

New update

2037-12-17

I am no longer able to use DexcomG7 on my watch with the most recent update. Please patch/fix ASAP. Being able to see my readings on my watch is huge for me. I have an iPhone 14 and last years ultra Apple Watch. Thank you.

New user

I just started checking my sugar information and its a Plus. The only thing I would like to see is a dark mode feature for us who have vision issues and can’t see the screen effectively. I hope you can consider the feature Thank you.

G6vs G7

2038-01-11

I’m relatively new to the D2 game so I’m still learning how to manage the glucose level and insulin injections. I’ve found it harder to figure out my bodies reactions to my fast acting and long acting insulin on this graph. On the g6 app I was able to pinpoint when each particular insulin is administered , how long it takes to react to each dose and if I should have increased the dose , and I miss it, it’s not available on the g7 app . That little view was helpful to me. I also preferred the availability of expanding the view of a 24hr view of my glucose levels. I’m older and this tiny screen graph annoys me every time I’m trying to figure out what my body is doing. The ability to add carb data is a nice addition but yeah, I’m not going to do that. I have enough of a problem trying to remember I HAVE to eat. I agree with the majority that the alerts rank up there with Tornado warnings and amber alerts. I would prefer to not have the entire Walmart know my glucose levels are quickly tanking. I try to laugh at life but still prefer to keep some things a little more private than these alerts allow.
You’re getting there on setting up DexcomG7, thanks for trying so hard . These are just my opinions and remember that you probably know more about what I need than I do , try to keep the majority of your users happy- you can’t make everyone happy. I do appreciate that “you” are listening. Have a great day.

Multiple improvements, one minor bug

2024-05-29

I just switched to the G7 two weeks ago after using the G6 for 4+ years. I like the integration of Clarity, being able to get details of my history without having to rotate my phone, and the more complete log entries. And my watch is useful again - unlike the G6 app, the font displaying my blood glucose in the complication is big enough to actually read!

The one bug I’ve noticed is that when I get alerts for low and high blood glucose values, the alert displays the old blood glucose value, not the value just received from the sensor. For example, I set the low alert threshold to 90 so I can respond before I drop below 80 and I routinely get alerts telling me something like “low blood glucose 91”. But when I open DexcomG7 and it says I’m at 87. The same happens on the high side.

I also like the amusing “about” page. Apparently DexcomG7 (and the iWatch app) was “manufactured” on October 17, 1697 (yes, more than 325 years ago). Dexcom has been working on this stuff a lot longer than I thought.

Great but could be better.

2038-05-21

I love my G7 as much as my old G6. With that said, I would like to see one change. Under the section where it says meals/event DexcomG7 wants you to enter the number of carbs that I ate at a meal. That is way to time consuming to add all of the carbs that I just ate especially if I’m eating at a restaurant. I would like the ability to enter what I ate instead of the number of carbs. It is easier for me look at past meals and see how what I ate and how much. It would be nice to be able to look back and see that on a certain date I went to a Mexican restaurant and had three tacos some chips and salsa and black beans. Then correlate that to how it affected my glucose level. That way I can adjust my eating habits for a better outcome.

Improved results over G 6

2038-04-12

I’ve been using the G 7 system for 4• months after using the. G6 system for several years.

I’m very happy with the improvements in this system over the G 6 system. With the G 6 I was frequently be awakened at night with a low or urgent low BG alarm . It would wake me and my wife . I would get up test wit my meter only to find my BG was in normal range. This has been eliminated with the G7. We love it. I’m using my iPhone and have learned about the boothtoith conductivity problem and had some early concerns about this. It had never happened while I’m sleeping. I am a side skeeper and was concerned that shifting the side I was sleeping on my cause this problem but so far no problem. Sometimes I loose conductivity during the day but it generally due to where I have left my phone. So I go through the drill of turning my phones blueetooth off then on and everything worked again. I also found that when I get close to 50 apos open on my phone I can lose BT. Thursday are minor compared to the false lies I used to get. I’m very happy and look forward to further improvements.

The G7 app has improved a lot.

2024-09-18

Update after wearing 3 sensors with the Direct to Watch feature: with first two sensors I had to attempt the watch pairing 3 and 4 times. Worked after last attempt. Seems to work better and pair faster when sensor and watch are on the same arm. The third sensor … I have given up and turned off the feature as I have attempted at least 8 times with no success. Apple Watch Series 6 with cellular. And since trying the Direct to Watch feature Dexcom has had to send me 2 sensors as they seem to fail before the 10-day session ends.

DexcomG7 has improved over the past 2 updates. Readings now match or are a lot closer to those of my glucose meter’s readings. This has been true for mine and my sisters’ readings. The G6 and now the G7 have helped me to become a controlled diabetic with my lab tested A1c being between 6.2 and 6.6 for the past 3 years. For years before that my A1c was between 9.0 and 13. The Dexcom CGMs have been the best thing for my diabetes since I was diagnosed. Looking forward to further improvements.

Critical Alerts Requirements create issues

2038-06-14

I get the need for critical alerts. I really do. But having those alerts going off in an important meeting because my sensor has expired is kind of a pain, especially when pharmacies are often unable to fill new prescriptions in time to prevent interruption. Since the only option in that situation is to turn off critical alerts, the next big pain is that when I have critical alerts turned off I lose access to data from DexcomG7 until I’ve procured and activated a new sensor.

Overall, this device has helped me make huge improvements to my glucose management. The historic data is a bit limited, but integration with Apple Health helps with that. Having to track that data through an outside app is a little frustrating, but overall, it does what it needs to do.

Again, I understand the need for critical alerts. Not all of us have issues with dangerously low glucose levels, though. Some of us just need good data so we can have successful ongoing glucose management. Give us a little more control over what constitutes a critical alert, and at least give us access to data when we don’t have a sensor active.

What do I think?

2038-10-12

I love the dexcom g7 a lot! It has helped with a lot of my diabetes stuff! But I think all we need now is the dexcom g7 to pair to the Omni pod pump! Then it would definitely be better! Also it is a little annoying that it is constantly loosing connection I mean all the time!

Too much hate

2038-06-03

People like to complain a lot about this but it really isn’t bad. It works just like the g6 but has slightly less range and no widgets (it’s a new app why would it). It’s significantly smaller than the last version and I rarely notice that it’s there. Warmup only takes 30 minutes which is nice and it feels secure even without skin tac. I also like how they added clarity to the home page, that was helpful. Overall it works great so far but you should use a glucose meter just like the g6 when dosing and correcting.

Overall happy but…

2038-08-25

I’m a new patient on the G7, and I’m very pleased with the performance so far on my iPhone. My only concern is that DexcomG7 does not work on my Apple Watch. It keeps telling me to consult DexcomG7 on my phone. This isn’t always practical, especially in some states (like mine) where it’s illegal to be on your phone while driving. I need for my sugars to appear on my watch to avoid this problem, especially if I get an alert. Please correct this problem. Thanks!

Why so much negative reviews?

2038-11-11

I find the G7 extremely better than the Libre 2 system. I made the switch 6 weeks ago.

1: much more accurate than the Libre 2. I can’t tell you how many sensors I had to send back to abbot. It simply got ridiculous. So far every G7 sensor has been spot on. In one case I needed to do a calibration and the dexcom app allows you to do this. Fantastic.

2: DexcomG7 allows pairing to iPhone as well as the reader at the same time. This is very handy if my phone is not in the same room

3: Apple Watch complication. This is very handy at the gym and locker room.

4: so far no false alarms, and the ability to adjust alarm sounds and even have a silence mode is great.

The Libre 2 app has terrible alarm adjustment. It woke me up so many times with false alarms due to “pinching the sensor” but you have no ability to shut alarms off other than to close DexcomG7 - which gives you another critical alert, or to shut off your phone.

4: I don’t miss the widget. Yes it will be nice to have that on the Lock Screen but it is not a show stopper for me. At least I don’t have to do gyrations to scan the sensor 6 times and get “retry in 10 minutes” or “please try again” messages like the Libre 2 system.

The relationship between Apple and The G7.

2024-06-23

So many people are quick to criticize and don’t see the real benefit of the G7. Along with Apple Watches and IPhones you can really control your cgm and make your life better and control your diabetes. If you want to track everything down to your last step a paper journal is your best friend. You can find the information much faster and it’s permanently available unlike a phone that can be broken and lost. My Apple Watch alerts me way faster than my iPhone and my doctor monitors my progress and activity so adjusting my needs is a snap. My journal contains my sticks and meals for comparison. You are a diabetic and it requires work to slow or stop the progression of diabetes no one is going to do that for you. The G7 is an excellent tool to do this.

Looses signal all the time

2038-10-06

I was using the competitor b/s reader. It worked fine but due to insurance not covering the cost I had to switch. Have not been happy with dexcom 7. Looses signal all the time and makes a loud noise to alert me. Thats all fine and dandy, but I work in a court room and this constantly go off, the sound interrupts the court room proceedings. DexcomG7 also goes off at all times if night. It got bad enough that I had to turn off my phone to get sleep. The funniest thing is, the receiver does not loose signal, so the problem could very well be DexcomG7 . I am hoping that uninstalling and reinstalling will help, we shall see.

Works good keep it close

2039-03-25

Works great but keep the iPhone close to the sensor. Since it will lose Bluetooth connection and you want to avoid that as much as possible. Great to have 30 min warm up time compared to 2 on the g6.

Fantastic Product

2039-04-03

I’ve had T1D for 20+ years and was a user of the Medtronic CGM system since its inception. There’s no comparison between G7 and Guardian system; Dexcom is a clear leader. The physical device is smaller, easier to insert, longer wear time, and comes with adhesive tape that actually works well. My personal experience is that only a single calibration reading is needed after ~36 hours of wear - far better than a need for constant calibration with other systems. The iOS interface is clean, intuitive, technically resilient. As long as the product is used as designed (read the iPhone safety guide, etc.), it works perfectly. I have an A1C of under 6.0 thanks to this system.

I’d like to see support for new iOS versions come out faster, but I’m guessing thats less of a Dexcom issue and more of a federal government issue. Having the G7 receiver is good fallback for cases when I need to update my phone.

Great! Needs widget

2038-08-24

I love the new look! Everything has worked great for me. I look forward to them adding a widget similar to the g6 app

Best CGM ever

2039-02-09

When I read the reviews, I was reluctant to try the G7. I was most recently using the G6 and prior to that the Freestyle Libre 2. My pharmacy had already filled my and my husband’s G7 so I went for it and put the G7 on my arm then my husband put his on. Within 25 minutes or less it was ready. My sensor was off by about 10ml from the blood testing and my husband’s was SPOT on. You can’t even feel the sensor on your arm. I changed my sensor today and the process was just as easy. I put the sensor on and by the time I finished drying my hair the sensor was ready. I very rarely lose signal and my husband who frequently lost signal on the G6 from just walking into the kitchen now has a signal almost all of the time. We both love the new G7. My brother in law is waiting for it to be compatible with an insulin pump. Thanks Dexcom

Easy switch from G6

2024-01-17

Painless switch. I’m not used to the new interface, but I might get to like the combination of current reading, graph and Clarity on one page.

One MAJOR improvement is the Watch interface. During some prior release, the G6 Watch complication started displaying the glucose reading in microscopic font with no apparent way to show the previous larger font. The G7 complication gave me the bigger font back.

G7 Excellent CGM

2024-01-17

I recently switched from the G6 to the G7 due to an allergic reaction created by the adhesive on the G6, this CGM is extremely accurate , easy to use and with a seamless integration with the Clarity App. The customizable settings , accuracy, small size and a short 30 minutes warm up time makes this sensor a winner .
Make sure your phone is nearby and with enough battery power or you might lose signal for a few minutes.

This app is a lifesaver!

2024-06-07

I don’t get all the negative reviews. I’ve been using Dexcom 7 and DexcomG7 for 5 months after getting diagnosed for type II. It is so easy and straightforward to use, the interface is very user friendly and I am constantly learning how things affect my glucose. It is a powerful, amazing, tool!

With its help I have dropped my A1C from 7 to 6.4, but the really great data is the Time in Range and the GMI, which is basically A1C but over the previous 14 days. These are really helping me see the changes I’m making over time. No lab or home A1C test to wait for, I can just look at my phone and see!

And the new update with direct connection to my Apple Watch is a game changer. Not having to stay with 20’ of my phone makes it so much easier to stay on top of.

The Dexcom G7 app has Issue with server connection loss on Samsung A53. The Dexcom G6 had no issues on Samsung phone.
