Great content. Still needs work

Douglas Wilson and the people at this app are giving great content and access to wonderful resources. I’m thankful for it and happy to pay for it. However Canon is consistently buggy. Doesn’t save where you are at in sermons, and books.
Could use better descriptions of content and landing pages for each individual content piece.
And if audio books had better reference options to be able to find chapters and sections. When you lose your spot half way through a book and then just have to guess your way to find the spot is difficult.

Great content, but app needs work.

Every bit of content I've checked out has been phenomenal. So far, "Notes From the Tilt-a-Whirl" audio book has been my favorite. If I could rate separate categories, content would get five stars.

Unfortunately, Canon leaves a bit to be desired. The biggest drawback is that your place in videos and audiobooks is not saved when you leave Canon . That means you have to remember about where you were and manually search for your place. It's particularly difficult for the audiobooks because they aren't broken up into chapters in the conventional way. Each chapter is not it's own track. There is one continuous track but the timer resets to zero at each chapter break.

Unless this bug is fixed, I wouldn't pay a subscription for access to this content.

Awesome! But please make some changes...

Content is spectacular. Supporting this ministry directly by supporting this app Press’s own platform is very smart in our day and age.
Content I give 5 stars.

Critiques: The layout is a bit confusing. It is hard to navigate and find the content I want. Also a HUGE issue is not being able to save my progress when listening to an item (lecture or book). I have to manually write down the time stamp of where I left off and even then, scrubbing precisely through something on Canon is very sloppy.
Please understand these issues are a BIG problem that are significant barriers to users being able to enjoy the content. For these reasons only I am giving it 3 stars.

Love the content, frustrated with the functionality

I love the content on Canon! However, it is extremely frustrating that I can’t use my downloaded content offline. I work in a place where I get no cell service or wifi connection, so I have to download everything I listen to. When I select something I’ve downloaded on the this app App to listen to, nothing will play and it acts like it is not downloaded. It is extremely frustrating especially since I pay for a service that I can’t really use much. Please try and fix this issue soon, or I’m afraid I might have to cancel my subscription until it is fixed.

Content:great, App:meh

Just as the other reviewers say, you’re downloading this because the content is really encouraging and Biblical, but you may find Canon dissatisfying. I am a subscriber, and wish I could recommend Canon more than 3-stars worth. I’ve emailed the developer multiple times to try and solve the doesn’t-keep-it’s-place-in-books issues, reinstalled Canon , etc. If you are considering this as an audiobook source you need to know that you will be frustrated. Videos, podcasts and other non-book stuff will work, it just will not keep your place in a book so you can pick up where you left off. I’m a little surprised that this app Press isn’t addressing the issue, or at least telling subscribers that they’re working on it. Please, this app, if you read the reviews just give us a crumb of hope that it might be fixed someday?

Superb content... lacking in standard features

Content is amazing. But accessing that content is sub standard. Navigating to resources is clunky, and the “save progress” feature is decent but not totally dialed in. I have been using app since it was released and, while there was improvement with the save progress feature, I still find myself losing several minutes here or there.

Hoping this app continues to develop Canon’s infrastructure/UX. I would prioritize this development over loading new content.

Also, it would be tremendously helpful for the books to be navigable by chapter.

Needs some tweaking

The content is such a blessing, but Canon needs some work. Here are some suggestions

1. Please subdivide the categories further. I would like a book category, a lecture category, podcasts, etc.. for each of the main categories that now are present. Right now, it is very difficult to find the books amongst the other content. So yea, a main category of books and then subcategories of types of books would be lovey.

2. A better bookmarking ability would be nice. I have to remember my time stamp often when listening to a book.

3. Please add more books! I would love more of Doug’s books. I am running out of books and would rather pay this app press than audible.

Thanks for such great content! The Lord has used you guys to change my life, and I won’t soon forget that.

App management

Dear, Grandpa Doug
I really enjoy Canon and how everything is easy to find through genres and categories. However, when I’m searching for a topic through the search bar I am given a list of options or best matches. If I select one of the options, but I want to go back and look at the others on the suggested list. I have to go back to the home page and retype my topic in the search bar. There is not a “back arrow/button” to the previous page. Please put a “back to previous page” option in the search engine suggestions.

Family options

I’m loving Canon . Two problems I’ve found

1) when listening to books Canon has a hard time remembering where you were when you last listened. My books keep starting back at the beginning. Which leads to me spending several minutes trying to find where I was.

2) no family sharing options. My husband and I both want to listen on our phones, but can’t pay for two subscriptions. I wish there was a way to share the subscription with your immediate family members so that we dont have to pay for two separate accounts.

Edit: third problem I found: why do I have to log in every time I close Canon ?? Very frustrating. And losing my place in the audio book every time has made me cancel my subscription. Which really stinks because I love the content. If these things get fixed I’ll re-subscribe.

HUGE blessing!

I cannot say enough about Canon. The content is scripturally accurate, challenging, and even entertaining. They constantly add to their catalog, and there is something for the entire family in its listing. This has been such a blessing in my life. I listen to audiobooks and videos while I go about my work at home. I never close Canon without feeling spurred on in the good works God has given me. Depending on what I’m listening too, I also let out a chuckle or an, “Oh my…they just said it!” The content is truly a lifeline in this sinful, fallen world. Canon is worth every penny and is my favorite service to support. If you want true biblical teaching and encouragement, then Canon is for you. You will not be disappointed.

A feast

Canon works well, but my review really is on the content. I have spent the last few years looking for a Christian content app that had depth and breadth, to no avail. All I found was watered-down fat-free milk discussions that were weak on theological depth and analysis and high-sugar high-caffeine energy drink talks that pump you up for a short while but lead to nowhere. The content at this app+ is salt-cured smoked meat, marrow, cave-aged cheese and oven-fresh mill stone-ground whole grain bread. Did I mention wine? Get it and feast.

Love this app

Love Canon and the people involved.
My one gripe is that it’s terrible to use on a smart tv. It gets stuck loading every one or two videos and I have to restart my tv over and over again to continue watching things. I understand they don’t have as much money for stuff like this as big brands, but man using this on a smart tv is a headache. On a mobile phone it works great though

Sooo many great books.

I’ve read over 70 of the books on this app+ and I still feel like there is much left to read! They are constantly releasing new content and books. They just added a bunch of the commentaries from RC Sproul which I am excited to get into, and there’s plenty of older stuff I still haven’t read. So much content from a ministry I have been so thankful for, all in one place. Canon functions great, I prefer it over audible.

The App you didn’t know you needed

The content produced by this app Press is life changing. I and my family have grown closer together because of their work. And now! You can access their books and material with a subscription here. It’s cheaper than buying a book a month (or close to a nice cup of coffee a month if you do the annual subscription) and you get an immense amount of goodness right here. I’m eager to get started. I can’t recommend this app Press enough.

Oh so wonderful!

And getting better all the time. Just finished The Winter King a couple weeks ago and it was amazing. All of the content is a treasure trove of goodness and they keep adding more!
Every time I open Canon it adds value to my family. I really don’t know how we made it this far without having the this app app all those many years.
I’m hopeful that at some point in the future the content quantity will reach critical mass sufficient to cut the cord to other entertainment media apps.

You won’t be disappointed you will be happy.

Some of my crazy, or so I thought, friends recommended I get this and I delved into the world of these amazing humans. Such a huge blessing all the content that you get on Canon. You don’t even have to be a Presbyterian to get a lot out of it. The amount of wisdom I have learned I must say was life changing for me. Thanks Doug, Nate, and all you awesome people in Idaho who work so hard to bring this to the world. May all Christendom be blessed by Canon.

Sharing content via the app?

The ever-expanding library of content makes Canon well worth the cost.

I would love to share a link to impactful content In Canon with others. For example, I’d like to share a quote from an audio book. The recipient can then click the link, which will open Canon and play the clip in context (~ 30 seconds). If the recipient doesn’t have Canon they are invited to download and listen. If they do but don’t have a subscription then they can still hear the clip and will be invited to subscribe.

Great biblical sound resource

This is a great app to invest in. Think about all the things we could spend money on that distracts us from what we really need to be doing: Learning from the word of God and biblical sound resources. I totally recommend Canon. I would like to know (if there is a way) how I can go straight to my book I’m listening without having to start from 0 and having to forward it :). Maybe I am super blind and don’t see where something like “my downloads” or “my library” is. I thank God for the Wilson family and their children. May the Lord keep using them for a faithful biblical sound ministry.

Relevant for our time

I have found more relevant content from cannon press and Doug Wilson than any other Christian ministry at the moment. The topics
Being discussed on Canon, and the clear preaching of Doug Wilson have settled issues of eschatology, Baptism, and given me tools, and a clear and motivated realization of my responsibilities and duties as a man. I wish I would of known these things ten years ago. I have to repent often listening to they're content.
If your serious about growing your understanding this apps for you. Sadly all the Taboo issues that I could never get a clear answer from the men at church seem to be getting addressed here.
Highly recommend.

Worth 1000 times the cost!

Tons of valuable new content added weekly and my saved list grows way faster than I can listen. Everything from classic childrens novels, to Christian biographies, to poignant sermons and podcasts. Incredible content for for our homeschool curriculum as well. I highly HIGHLY recommend!!! Paid for itself our first week! Thank you to everyone at this app. This is such a gift!!!
