Thinly veiled gambling

I thought I was joining a healthy eating challenge and paid $10 for what I believed would be an engaging and motivating experience and upon downloading and opening WayBetter at the beginning of the challenge I was prompted to gamble with my own money by betting $20 against myself for completing the challenge and sharing the pool of money other users gambled with. Since I didn’t opt to gamble, at the end of the challenge I was declared a “winner” but offered no reward. With over 400 participants and a pool of less than $4000, had we all “won” our takeaway would have been less than $10 so you would essentially be at a loss from the $30 you had already paid out of pocket. I found this whole business model tacky and misleading. Not to mention the poor user experience offered. Each time you log into WayBetter , to view the challenge you participated in requires additional clicks to navigate there. You don’t open WayBetter and arrive at your own challenge feed. Instead there is a feed of all the other challenges happening and if you try to click to read more of the posts that appear you are prompted to pay even more money to become a member and ultimately to join and gamble on those challenges too. Unless gambling is your thing, I’d recommend avoiding WayBetter.

Motivation and Community!

WayBetter has helped me so much! Not only are there physical fitness goals, but also mental fitness and healthy well-being goals for you to choose from and participate in. The community is so encouraging and it’s not an app that pushes you to be perfect, it encourages you to be your best self. I love WayBetter for the water intake goals, gratitude games, and fitness goals- there’s always a little bit of something for someone, with the added bonus that you can come away with making a bit more than what you started with- it’s a fabulous investment and I recommend this to anyone willing to try it!

Not RunBet

I loved RunBet to keep me accountable while training for runs. this app has expanded on that to offer other games - fitness, nutrition, mindfulness etc. In doing so, they have also removed the option to submit either a treadmill photo or a fitness tracker readout. There is one treadmill only game and everything else is fitness tracker. I hate that they have left out the option to mix and match throughout the bet. Sometimes the weather or circumstances make you have to use a treadmill for the day.

Most of the bets have relaxed their time limits to 18 minute miles and I did see one game for walking (25 minute miles). While these are good additions, this is not RunBet any longer and I wish they’d go back to allowing either treadmill or tracker runs. I also wish WayBetter was a little easier to weed out the bets you aren’t interested in now that they offer so many.

Also, subscribing just to see the bets is ridiculous. You are already paying to join the bet??

App won’t recognize login

I’ve been a member of DietBet and StepBet and recently joined this app via web browser. I can log in to the DietBet & Stepbet apps, and the this app website (safari) but the iOS app gives a network error every time I attempt to login. I’ve paid to join games that have already started but can’t submit the photos required to participate. They’ve said it’ll take 5 days to respond to my email, by that time I will have lost the bet!

Update- using data instead of WiFi enabled me to login. However, this is the only app that has this issue and it is a big inconvenience to have to switch back and forth from data/WiFi literally every time I want to check in with the game. DietBet, StepBet, RunBet work fine and remember my login information, why does this app require me to 1.) switch WiFi off 2.) sign in 3.) go through MFA (click the photos of the ___) every time.

If you have a limited data plan, WayBetter is not for you. Unless this is fixed, will likely cancel after my free month.

Used to be fun now company seems toxic

I love the push up game but WayBetter glitches occasionally. Sometimes videos don’t upload properly and the way the user face is designed it’s easy to miss. This usually doesn’t cause too much trouble because I’ll catch it before I lose the game. But one time about a year ago I didn’t so i reached out to CS and shared my timestamped video and they’re were happy to fix it. However, the video failed upload again recently and customer service tone’s drastically changed. They fixed it as a “one time exception” but moving forward I would need to let them know by midnight the day the video didn’t post and a screenshot of the error message. There’s never an error message, the video just never shows up so good luck with that. Fix the bugs in your app instead of sending aggressive emails to your users. Combined with the obnoxious membership increase, makes me not want to use WayBetter . From a user standpoint it feels like their company culture has changed.

Thanks for bringing back more tracker games

Previously used stepbet and loved it, and patiently awaited expansion of WayBetter to include other workout-related challenges. I was disheartened when the expanded app required you to submit a photo of yourself for verification of completion of a workout as this is something I’m not comfortable doing, and I don’t think it’s an accurate verification means.

Pleased to see more fitness-tracker verification games on WayBetter now as that is how I measure and track my workouts anyway. That said, a lot of the non-running bets still require photo verification. I hope this app will continue to support more tracker-verification games so that a wide variety of people can play with options that suit them.

Works Great!

I’ve been waiting for WayBetter for a long time now and am so happy to finally play it! I’ve played on DietBet and StepBet for a while and have been waiting for this. I love the selection of games and how it’s not just limited to the core games. I understand there are still a few bugs to sort out but it work great for me!! Keep up the good work.

still charging me after i canceled

i did one game in WayBetter and canceled my subscription right after bc i didn’t like it and wasn’t going to use it anymore. i earned $12 on that game, and it’s been charging me $1.99 monthly even after i canceled and deleted WayBetter . i didn’t notice since it was coming out of that $12 in WayBetter for so long, then it started to charge my card? but it wasn’t charging monthly like every 3 months. very weird and suspicious. i went to cancel my subscription again just to make sure it didn’t auto renew, and I DONT EVEN HAVE ONE anymore but it’s still charging me. and the help section says i have to contact apple? don’t get WayBetter if you aren’t wanting to be charged even after you cancel. luckily it’s only $1.99 but the cancellation process is a nightmare

UNHELPFUL

I love the concept behind the game. However, WayBetter is not intuitive and doesn’t seemlessly connect with your listed approved devices. I completed a workout, using my Apple Watch, Apple Health, Apple Fitness AND Openfit (which is not an approved device as it is a third party app). Low and behold, the this app app would not accept ANY data from ANY of those devices. So, I emailed support- their response was less than helpful. Everyone states that support will help you, and to maintain documentation to send to support in the event that this happens. Well, support won’t help you either.
Good concept, poor support.

This is copy and paste of their email AFTER sending documentation.
“ Hi Kim,

Thank you for reaching out and we're sorry for the trouble.

Unfortunately, as our rules state, we are unable to honor third-party tracking devices. We can only honor activities performed on approved tracking devices.

You can track your runs with Fitbit, Apple Watch, Garmin, RunKeeper, or Strava. You can also sync indoor treadmill runs with Fitbit, Apple, and Garmin.

We apologize for the trouble. Please let us know if you have additional questions.

Thank you,”

Great motivation

I love WayBetter, it really gives me the motivation to complete all my tasks. Other apps may provide you with the material to get to success but WayBetter actually gets you to complete all your goals. Competing against others gives you the desire to achieve what you put your mind to. Definitely recommended WayBetter!

WayBetter

At first I thought it wasn’t going to be as good as runbet but it is way better! Instead of taking a picture of treadmill and sweaty self, I set my Fitbit on treadmill andirons syncs to the this app app including your heart rate! Less chances of any cheating, I thinks it makes us more accountable! I think it is a huge improvement!

Good incentives to be healthy

I stared as a StepBet user and enjoy how this app games add a level of challenge— heart rate or speed during exercising. I’ve had very few technical issues and their customer service has been helpful.

I wish they would add a badge notification for how many activities I still have to complete that day.

motivating, great customer service

Changing my review because the customer service was super responsive and worked with me when my phone broke mid challenge. The games are fun and effective, but you’re obviously not going to be making bank on them.

Love the new games

I am LOVING the new games! I’ve played a bunch of dietbets and stepbets in the past, so this is a nice change. So far I’ve played in a workout game and a cooking game. It’s super helpful having some kind of accountability while being quarantined, especially when it comes to eating and working out.

Difficult to cancel, uninteresting, slow service

They promise a free trial, but then you can’t cancel easily in WayBetter or on a website. You have to wait fir an extremely slow email support desk to respond. Waited 3 days for my first response; they couldn’t find my account. Replied with info and have been waiting another 4 days with no response. Oh, and the ‘challenges’ are pretty uninteresting and the verification can be easily faked (post a selfie to verify you worked out), so it’s not as good an app as hoped either.

Great App and Games

I love participating in the games on WayBetter. I usually when an extra $1-3 per game. It’s fun and I like having the accountability and starting new good habits.

I had an issue with WayBetter not working on my iPhone. After posting here, the developers fixed it. Thank you!

Beware of admission fee

I joined a challenge from a share link, and when I signed up, it wasn’t clear that my payment was going towards an “admission fee” instead of my bet. I get they charge the fee so they can split the pot without fees, but the messaging on sign up was misleading and I feel kinda scammed. Plus, the fee was pretty steep (75% of the bet price) so I feel like a lot of people in the challenge have to lose just for me to break even. This will probably be the only challenge I do on WayBetter.

Great app, good motivation/habit building

Great app, good motivation/habit building. For games that require syncing with another device (e.g. Fitbit) make sure you know how to have back up documentation in case they sync doesn’t happen as it should.

Lots of games on fitness, weight loss, finishing what you start, etc. even games to do with whole family.

Disappointed in required subscription

I loved Runbet— been participating for nearly 2 years. I love the idea of being able to do multiple bets at the same time but I am not a fan of subscription based anything. I liked the “rake” version and would even be good with advertisements. The company made money off the rake, and even off the interest for the money deposited. The profit isn’t really a motivator, losing my money was. I will be requesting my payout now and saying goodbye. Sad day.

Variety has become non-existent.

Why?! WHY are there 3 “Let’s Work Out” challenges starting on April 19th?!?! Seriously, I love WayBetter, but the variety of late stinks. 😒 There has become too much focus on influencers and to little focus on variety in challenges.

By

Lots of motivation!

Loving all of the new challenges! I’ve played in workout games, food tracking games and tried the self care game, too. They have helped keep me on track during quarantine.

By

Used to love it

I was loving WayBetter when they had a variety of games to choose from. I don’t know what happened a month of so ago but now almost everything is workout related. There are plenty of apps for that. I loved the home, craft and cooking challenges that are now nonexistent. Those were the entire reason I bought WayBetter .

Winning by losing weight

This is really helping me get back on track. I always track in the daytime but tend to stop before dinner and evening snacks. I've lost 4 lbs this week and plan! I'm so happy!!!

We are their guinea pigs and can lose our real money

Cute idea , but the team is disorganized and basic guidelines and rules are not worked out clearly and forthrightly. This is pretty critical in a “bet” based game.

As an app that asks you to put in cash, you can end up losing your money not just due to your own shortcomings but theirs as well which they do not take accountability for.

By

Fun and easy way to build a habit

Got me back into ab workouts and it was fun to get cheered on by the community of people doing the bet with me!

So inspiring!

Love these games! So fun and I’m loving the accountability! I’m definitely making way better choices!
