Underwhelming...

Specialized... with all their R&D and resources has grossly under delivered with SpecializedRide and aNgi technology. The aNgi device is now 4 years old, and we still don’t have Apple Watch integration, still have to shake our head, or helmet violently to get the device to wake up, and still have to open SpecializedRide ... and ride with our phones. With Apple Watch fall detection, and Strava Beacon... this ANgi technology is completely useless. What’s more, Specialized now charges more for their aNgi equipped helmets, adding insult to the overpriced, useless device. Much like the new Aethos, I’m struggling to understand why the cycling industry needs these products from the Big S. Specialized is attempting to fill a void, that never existed to begin with. No frills bikes already existed, albeit at an affordable price... and crash detection apps/devices already existed, and worked exponentially better than ANgi. These products are fails... highly suggest researching their “need” before purchasing.

I wanted to like it...

But it is just too clunky. Pages not loading, the weird community ride feature that goes pretty much unused, it just doesn’t work very well. And that’s a bummer because I have a lot of good aspects. I just loved and would love to go on some community rides. But sadly SpecializedRide just doesn’t deliver. I gave it 2 stars because the Angi is nice to have and I think if they put more effort and money into it, it could be a good secondary app. It won’t replace Strava but there could be something there.

Decent start but needs revision

Wish there was an option for ride start and finish notifications to be sent via text. My wife loves the notifications but doesn’t check her email often enough for them to be relevant. By the time she notices that I’ve started a ride I’ve already put in 50 miles and done. If the notifications were text she would know within minutes.

Too easy to end ride accidentally

New user here. I find it’s great app, and amazingly accurate. One problem: The “End Ride” button is in a bad spot along on the bottom edge of your screen. On newer iPhones this means you have to touch the end ride button and then swipe up to see the home screen. It’s way too easy to accidentally end your ride at a water stop part way through (especially if you’re in sunlight). Can you move the end/resume controls to somewhere else?

Not working

I am having the same issues others have. I states there is an account error and to check if I’m connected to the internet...I am. Super frustrating. I emailed specialized, got an automated reply 3 weeks ago and nothing since. So basically have 4 helmets in my household equipped with Angi technology and cant use it. Super disappointed. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling nothing works. Tried on my phone and I pad, nothing. Have this for a month and can’t use the technology.

Very poor implementation of the safety function

I agree with the last review - the Ride app is a serious downgrade from ICEdot. I’m not interested in joining the Specialized “community”, I just want my family to find me if I crash. Unfortunately SpecializedRide doesn’t seem to maintain connection to my phone’s GPS (even while Google Maps and Waze locate me perfectly), so that function is essentially useless.

I can’t fault the ICEdot owners for wanting to cash out their innovation, but by selling to Specialized they really ended up doing a disservice to the cycling community.

No internet connection

When I’m trying to create an account...after I enter my personal info I get a pop-up alert that says I’m not connected to the internet. When I’m in fact connected. That’s how I’m writing this review....

I read other reviews that said to log in using my info from another specialized app. Tried that. I get the spinning wheel of foreverness.

If we were playing dodgeball and it was picking a dead body or whoever created SpecializedRide. The dead body would be more useful.

Log in attempts

SpecializedRide does work great, when it allows me to log in. It seems to have a glitch at log in. I also lost half my ride but think it’s because my phone went to sleep mode. I didn’t think that would effect how SpecializedRide tracked. I guess I’m used to Apple Maps still running while my phone sleeps.

Meh…if there was a Apple Watch version it’d be rad

Part of heading out on the bike is escape…the fact SpecializedRide is phone based at this stage in the game makes it just OK. Seems like I’m not in a obscure minority on the desire of an Apple Watch version so hopefully you all with get this launched soon. Dig my Specialized Diverge Evo Expert though - a ton!

Keeps stopping during ride

I have used SpecializedRide for two rides now and both rides SpecializedRide has cut off during the ride without any indication or warning. I am using this to connect to the angi due to personally having three heart conditions and being told at some point I will pass out while riding. Something needs to be done about this especially since I spent quite a bit investing in the angi and buying a compatible helmet.

Can’t sign in.

So Specialized decided to make you sign in the SpecializedRide which is connected to my helmet. Unfortunately their app doesn’t work when I try to sign in. It says that it doesn’t have me listed. But when I go to set up a new account using my email address it says there is someone already using that email address. Yup it’s me using the email address that Specialized recognize when I try to log in.

Amazing!!!

I have a specialized rockhopper hints why I have the specialized app and SpecializedRide is amazing it’s bassicly strava but for free you can track rides and that kind of stuff find local rides and start local rides it’s ridiculously simple and astonishing bangin

Watch app?

I’m just setting SpecializedRide up and realized that there is not any iWatch connectivity. Many of us who use the iWatch have our cell phone in a zippered pocket or in a pouch on the bike. For us access to our phone is cumbersome and we can not be made aware of alerts on the cell phone. In my opinion the lack of iWatch connectivity is a serious issue.

Problem registering

There is one very illogical step that to me has misleading and incomplete instructions. Had to get my granddaughter who is used to the illogical logic to finish registering .

By

Works great, they must have worked the bugs out

Im assuming they’ve fixed a lot of the issues that resulted in 3 stars bc mine does what it’s supposed to

By

Simple to use ride tracking app!

Super easy to use to track your rides, plus some good articles too!

By

Disappointed

Not many features, setting up a ride has been impossible. Set Meeting Location causes app to become unresponsive. Integrates with Strava after I record a ride in app so this is useless to me. I record my rides with my Garmin Edge that then saves to Strava without killing my phone battery as I ride. Felt disappointed, may delete later idk

By

Password

No app, no feature is great if I can’t remember my password because I have to follow instructions that aren’t given on how many capital letters, numbers, symbols I HAVE to use to have an acceptable according to SpecializedRide , password!! None of these hoops I’m told to jump through stops any hacker anywhere on this planet!! Stop this forced nonsense! My new helmet will not be connected because of this stupidity.

App crashed at start

Enter the Sweepstakes came on as soon as I started SpecializedRide for the first time. After I chose to enter the sweepstakes SpecializedRide never responded or moved on from that screen, I had to kill and restart. Now I have no idea if I have entered the sweepstakes! It doesn’t come the second time.

Easy way to find and plan group rides

I’m new to cycling and SpecializedRide is making it easier for me to ride regularly. It helps me discover new routes and meet fellow riders in my area. Awesome!

By

Lots of potential

I can see where Specialized is going with this and it is exciting. Great work so far. Very clean interface.

Very premature app lacks many functionality

This is a very poorly written and minimalistic app. You are forced to use it if you are using ANGi safety alert system (old icedot it replaces was much better)

You have to record your ride with this dysfunctional software to use ANGi, though Specialized says otherwise.
Specialized flyer says go to more.. menus and turn off recording. There is not such an option.

All in all it is a useless app for serious cycling, but you are held hostage to Specialized if you want to use any safety alert system since Specialized bought and took IceDot out of market.

Can't sync with strava

I like that I can alert friends and family as to the status of my order and all with my helmet but it seems I can't get strava to sync with it :/

By

Non-functional

Downloaded SpecializedRide , and nothing on it is functioning. Trying to open the profile just brings up (unable to load profile)

By

Can’t link to Strava

I was able to register my bike, but cannot link app to Strava, tried everything Strava doesn’t accept it.

By

Great!

Nobody has it but once people get it it will be awesome!

By

GPS is horrible.

On a measured trail that is 14 miles , the Ride app didn’t account for half of it. Back to using Strava stand alone.

Getting better and better

Love how SpecializedRide is evolving and getting easier to use. Angi also gives me comfort hitting the trails alone. Awesome that the ride.specialized companion website is launched! So much easier to see my rides and share them. Thanks to the specialized geeks for creating these online experiences!

It just doesn't work like it is supposed to. So, you spend $10,000 on a bike made by a company that is supposed to be at the very cutting edge of bike tech. You're pretty stoked. Especially with their app that is supposed to give you all sorts of data, graphs, and incite on how well you are performing. The first 2 times you ride it does a great job. You get a map of your ride, ave. speed, max speed, a graph showing elevation/mph, calories burned, average watts, max watts, ride type, max elevation, elevation gain, total ride time, average cadence, max cadence, max 30-sec watts, max 1-minute watts, max 5-minute watts, max 20-minute watts, a graph sowing % of ride spent in anaerobic, vo2, threshold, tempo, endurance and recovery, and various heart rate numbers. Pretty cool. The second ride it only records half of the ride. Third ride, complete data. The next 30 rides; distance, max speed, average speed elevation gain...nothing else! Several phone calls to Specialized..no help. Eight emails to Specialized giving details of what is going on...no help. BTW, I think they are in Asia because the responded to emails sent during the day on Tuesday are answered at about 2-3 AM Thursday. But never any help. I went to my Specialized dealer and they had no clue. But, suggested that they had a customer who was using it and he might know how to make it work. I have uninstalled and updated three times...no change. Bottom line, the handlebar mounted computer gives more data and is more reliable. RIDE DOES NOT WORK!
