Terrible new app

I’m a professional musician so the scores are indispensable. However it’s become so difficult to operate. Much slower and time consuming now. As an example, the Bartok Concerto for Orch score doesn’t seem to fit the screen, is crooked on some pages and cut off on others. Get rid of the screen that says “you already have the reader app”, just go straight to nkoda ! I already quit my membership once and I’ll give it another try, but I’m saddened by these changes and don’t know how much longer I can rely on nkoda. Also seems like the parts hardly have any margins for notes now which isn’t going to work…I’m sure there are workarounds for many of these things but it’s definitely not apparent or easy to use.

First impressions...

Sat down properly with this app for the first time last night to get to grips with it. I was astonished to see the range of scores it contains. Some real rarities too. I dread to think what the physical paper music would set you back.. I'll be staying subscribed for now even if I don't use it regularly, it's just good to know it's at my fingertips if i need/want it

Nice UX

An all around better user experience than the previous release. They’ve introduced some more intuitive functions like quick access to recently used scores and playlists, and the layout makes good use of space. As a former UX Designer myself, I’m impressed!

Improved search accuracy

Search is much improved with a far higher accuracy and relevance to what I’m looking for. Especially fond of composer dropdown option which lets me narrow down results considerably.

Excellent support

Had one or two problems getting my subscription recognized by nkoda but their support service provided prompt help and I managed to get it working this weekend. Thanks for all your help.

Truly useless

I can find scores and am prompted to open them in this app reader, then prompted to give my phone number to verify account. Then the score never shows u- in this app reader and that send me back to this app library which prompts me again for my phone number for verification which then takes me back to this app reader which then reopens this app library which then prompts me for my phone number…

Well you see where I’m going with this

Updated work page

Updated work page area with improved display of information eg publisher, description of work, icons

Facilitates remote teaching

It has been necessary to invest in remote learning tools for obvious reasons. Even as we begin to come out of the pandemic, some degree of remote learning is now the norm. this app facilitates several aspects of this shift, and I'm grateful for it.

Instantaneous access

Exciting to think we’re now in an age where you can think of a piece you want to find and have it at your fingers the very next moment.

By

Keep returning

I have cancelled this app once or twice before but I always seem to end up returning as there’s simply no other way to affordably access contemporary music.

By

Great idea

It’s a great idea, but it used to be only one app and now it’s two. They’re quite slow and kinda hard to explore. I tried it on 2019 and I actually liked it better back then. I paid for the subscription but not sure I’ll renew unless it improves.

Subscriptions add up

The cost does add up over time so probably best for most serious players who will make good use of materials available

By

Will gather pace

As the shift to digital gathers pace and more people own tablets ( I say tablets because that is really what yuo need to make full use of this app) I can see this app becoming a necessity for classical musicians worldwide

By

Loging in

It is not remembering my login information. I constantly have to login every page it directs me too. Needs to be more streamline. I have to login via 3rd party page and now it is telling me page not found. There needs to be an update to fix this or I will end subscription.

Handsfree page turns

Compatible with Bluetooth pedal! Makes things much easier

Exceptional value

Ridiculously good value from this app. I don't know how many scores there are but they must have thousands. Exceptionally good value

By

A real step up

A much improved space to explore and discover music

By

Digital only

Be aware there's no print option - truly for digital natives

By

Perfect for sharing markings

The simplest way to share markings with students I've come across

By

Shifting to digital

this app is quickly making my collection of paper scores redundant

Simply amazing

What’s fantastic about nkoda outside of the ease of being able to access hundreds if not thousands of sheet music from modern pieces to the classics. The functionality of nkoda really brings it together with how easy it is to see and search for what you want. It will even tell you if a particular piece needs to have permission for a public performance. The thoughtfulness behind the design is wonderful and truly can be enjoyed by anyone.

3 Stars

I play the bass clarinet and was bummed when I saw that there was no bass clarinet so I clicked clarinet. I did find good music not exactly what I had in mind but it wasn’t bad. But I can’t spend money until later and was disappointed when I couldn’t find an free music. I’ll give it a 3 stars but considering to change it when I can purchase the subscription

Not mean but my opinion

This is really helpful to me so thank u for making it but when I logged in it said they need my email and password and I’m still a kid and idk my email and I can’t ask my mom and dad cause they will say no that’s a waste of money or oh that probably won’t even help but I know it will I’ve got a good feeling about nkoda so please try and help pls

Incredible resource

I must say, the ratings given so far are incorrect, nkoda is absolutely amazing. I am a pianist and have found some incredible repertoire from artists I didn’t know at all. They don’t only focus on the famous scores, but they go deep and wide in what’s available out there. Amazing, thanks for doing this.

A nice service for musicians

While this app is touted as a great source new music out ain’t necessarily so.
The other day I was trying to find a piece by Glass and I could not find it.(Partita for Violin solo.
Last night I was trying to connect from my second IPad and I was denied access unless I was ready to buy an extra membership
Interesting enough I was using both IPads since January
These are a few examples
Let’s hope things are going to get better in the future .
Otherwise it was sort of useful
Would also be nice to be able to purchase the music digitally directly from the site.
It would save time..

Pluses and minuses

This is great for the perusal of a wide variety of scores from top notch publishers. 5 stars for that.

For actual use in performance, the page turns are unreliable, so zero stars for that! This should be fixable, so I’m hoping to be able to use nkoda not just for researching repertoire, but also in concert as well.

Great app

Still in the trial period but have already found music I don’t know how I would have discovered by other means. Would love to be able to display 2 pages at a time when using a larger monitor (to reduce page turns).

Scary; too many bugs; not for professionals

I want to be as positive as I can, but I’m running the latest iOS on my iPad Pro and as with the previous iOS update this app often freezes or needs to be deleted and re-downloaded. No other apps I’ve used have been this buggy.

A shame. I could never trust nkoda in a performance; I would be so worried nkoda would freeze. Long way to go to gain trust.

Learning music - search no further!

A great app for anyone Who is learning/ playing sheet music. It has all the sheet music i'll ever need - no more buying expensive music 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽

By

What a great collection!!

nkoda is simply amazing. It brings together so much varied music. It's awesome to explore different kinds of music that I otherwise may not have heard.

By

Kind of disappointed

I wouldn’t let me even look at the music without buying a membership. I’m a student trying to get more music so my director doesn’t have to buy any, and I don’t have any money! How am I supposed to find good music when I have to buy a membership?

By

Nice idea but . . .

First of all, IMSLP is a far better for most of the music I need - orchestral parts. this app is expensive ($120/year) and simply not worth it for my needs. Also, I find the inability to print the music to be EXTREMELY annoying. Finally, for things that are not available on IMSLP (etudes, solo pieces, etc.), many of the best editions are NOT on this app.

By

Its good but...

I like nkoda but I wish that when we go to a different app on our devices the music will still be playing until I stop it

By

So frustrating

I downloaded nkoda on my computer to get a song, and it wouldn’t let me look at it or do anything without accepting the free trial, which I had done multiple times. It then proceeded to keep crashing and not allowing me to log in, so I’m giving up. This looked great, and I’m extremely disappointed.

Appalling. I cancelled my subscription within the free allotted time and yet they still billed me and took my money. The contact number is a dummy.

Not only is Nkoda an awful app that is poorly optimised for the Mac, especially the M1 chip, but also a leader in anti-consumer practices. If I like to share a fragment of a piece with someone, I would like to take a screenshot and send it to them. Nkoda is in no position to tell me otherwise. Dear Nkoda staff and directors, your stupid traditionalist practices have no place in the 21st century.
