does its job, but ios 15 removed a very important feature

the "load remote images" option was hidden from the settings for this app in ios 15. this was a feature used to help keep its use of storage low. now i can't turn off the feature whatsoever. Mail's data alone, which i assume is all cached files, now takes up almost 4GB worth. i've tried deleting almost all of my old archived emails, but i've had no avail in that regard. i'll try more solutions to see what helps, but i sincerely feel like this setting should be added back so this doesn't take as long to fix as it is right now.

if that's not an issue for anyone though, Mail does its job alright, though do be aware of lag when syncing your gmail.

solid app

i feel like a lot of people who leaves bad reviews on Mail are just beginners at managing emails and don’t want to bother learning Mail. i know apple is usually known for ease of use, but Mail is easy once u actually understand it. maybe if Apple made a get started guide, Mail would have a higher rating. the people around me were in awe when i showed them swipe functions, ways to access & markup emails, & even configuring Mail in Mail itself & in iPhone settings. it even comes preconfigured with some pretty useful Smart Mailboxes (which btw just filters out emails). holding some buttons enable more functions. for example. holding the archive button allows u to delete messages (which u can configure to delete by default if u want in Settings>this app), holding the Compose Message/New Email icon (or whatever it’s called) allows u to dig into ur drafts folder, swiping down on an email while writing lets u reference other email without closing the one u’re working on.. all in all, it’s a solid app… & it’s stock!! i don’t think i’ll ever need another app to manage my emails tbh lol. 5 star bc it def deserves at least 3 stars on average

You are so frustrating. It's time to start listening to customers

Mail is averaging a 2.4 rating. That's not equivalent to a 60% approval. That is equivalent to a failing product. The this app app is so outdated. Let's get one thing straight; almost no one wants an archive feature. It should not be a prominent choice. We want a trash feature. When I swipe on an email, I want to delete it or flag it. Totally fine to have a third option for "more" options. But get rid of the archive option. Put it in more and replace with trash. Apple doesn't seem to care about innovation anymore. Just decides to copy whatever the competition has done... five years later. Apple this app: you need to have a trash option when filtering by specific sender or key words. You need to have a trash option when selecting emails in inbox. None of this submenu stuff... move -> trash. When I long press an email I want to select it, not bring up a floating menu. Long press needs to allow me to select multiple emails with radial buttons. Then from there allow me to decide what I want to do with my selection with a floating menu. Primarily using the long press for selection to mass delete.

Why would I ever use this over another mail app?

By far the worst part of Mail is it’s settings. For Gmail, you have to enable “archive” for your left swipe in order to have the option to swipe to delete, and you can *only* right swipe to delete. When my other this app account is left swipe to delete, it creates a frustrating inconsistency where I’m constantly accidentally archiving gmail emails. Now I have to go dig through my settings to enable myself to see my gmail archives?

Why would I use Mail when other apps give me the freedom to customize my settings as I please? Whomever constructed the gmail side of this thought they were anticipating their user’s tendencies, but utterly failed at doing so.

It gets a second star because my phone runs better consolidating two email apps into one, but that’s the only benefit, and I can easily make use of a different email app for this benefit while having the freedom to customize my settings as I please.

I want to love it but….

…it is absolute garbage!!! I am a self proclaimed Apple fanboy. I own all Apple products, use stock apps and subscribe fully to their philosophy, but I can not use this service. this app is single handily the worst Apple product…period! It’s as basic of an email app as you are going to find, and that wouldn’t bother me if they would at least update it with some modern features (think smart inbox or scheduled email). But, the most annoying part of this app for me is the syncing between devices!!! How is it if I get an email on my phone, look at it, delete it, and then a minute or so later the email comes through on my watch? Or how does an email come through on my iPad and never even notify me on my phone? Or how can I delete emails on my Mac and then have to go and delete them from my iPhone and iPad? Can we not sync this service fluidly? I use Spark and take the privacy risk because Spark “just works”. I sure wish Apple would devote the resources necessary to make Apple this app a solid service.

I cannot use email, horrible service

Email does not work and constantly says welcome to email every time I open it, I can’t get rid of the screen and it doesn’t automatically sign me in. When I enter my email address and click verify, it does not work even if I retype it 1,000 times. I need email for so many other things and I cannot view it on my phone and makes it so inconvenient. The only time I can use iCloud email is if I go to the website on my computer and then it shows that I have so many emails. I am constantly stuck on the welcome to email page and I don’t want to enter my google email because I have gmail for that and I want to access my iCloud email. Absolutely horrible. I have the latest updates and that doesn’t even solve the problem. It doesn’t show how to fix the problem in the apple website, for help or anything. Nobody is even trying to fix the problem, and I believe they should fix the bugs. Do not use Mail.

Not my fav any longer

Since the last OS update to my iPad Pro, I can no longer tap on a webpage and share it through this app….. all the this app app does is open a draft email that never loads the web link, just becomes a permanent draft message with no link nor attachment. It used to be so very simple to share a webpage and now it is impossible to do. It also does the exact same loading draft stupidity when I try to share a photo out of Photos….. doesn’t anyone at Apple try these updates out before they mandate them?????? Sure wish they would be subject to product recalls and class action suits to make them more responsible about their products…….
Also, seems that you CANNOT post a review that has only one star rating. Their system will NOT allow you past writing the review and denies any nickname you enter, saying that name is already taken. HOW BOGUS IS THAT!!!!!!!

This is a stupid app/gmail app is better

Mail is not easy to use. Content in emails won’t populate, unless you click the button to allow it. A message at the top of every email I subscribe to, tells me it’s a subscription email and gives the option to unsubscribe. It’s like ad messages that won’t go away.
You can go to the “In box” and swipe right or left to delete an email. You have to swipe then pick “Move to”, then tap “Trash”. If you go to “All this app” it’ll let you swipe right and tap “delete”. However, if a message is marked “important”, you also have to go to the “important” folder and delete it there, too.
If you delete junk this app from the “junk this app” folder, you also have to go into the “trash” folder and delete it all again. I want simplicity, not a bunch of mumbo jumbo.

Several different notification bugs

I experience multiple different types of notification bugs. Sometimes I don't receive any notifications whatsoever even though the notification settings are all turned on. Sometimes I receive them but they don't vibrate (I have it set to vibrate only in settings). Sometimes the badges are inconsistent with the actual number of new this app I have. Sometimes I receive a notification but the banner is stuck even after I've read or deleted the email. Usually restarting the phone will fix it for a few hours, but then one or more of these bugs will return shortly after. It's been like this since the beginning of iOS 15. At first it was just annoying but now, after several months, it's honestly quite frustrating.

Problems with Microsoft Outlook sand IOS 15

Apple this app worked perfectly with Outloook until I downloaded IOS 15. I could not open any emails. I restarted my iPad twice and that didn’t correct this problem. I deleted Apple this app and downloaded that App twice and I still could not open my emails on Apple this app. The Apple App kept stating that I already was using my current Outlook email address and asked if I wanted to set up another email address in AOL, Yahoo, and Outlook!! I didn’t want to delete Outlook and reload it for fear that I would lose my contacts and my mailboxes. I can’t wait until Apple or Outlook revises their Apps until IOS 15 is compatible with Apple this app or Outlook. I’ve switched to Edison this app and it works well.

So much potential ignored

Email has been around since the beginning of the Internet. And Apple this app has changed very little over that time. Mail gets the basic job done. They’ve added some unsubscribe and anti-pixel tracking features (to keep advertisers frustrated), other than that though it hasn’t added much else.

The spam filtering is hit or miss. Smart mailboxes that you setup on macOS do not sync to iOS or iPadOS. Folder (mailbox) configurations don’t sync either - so you’re forced to organize your folders constantly.

When I see products like Hey and how they’re trying to innovate and rethink the problem of email I wish Apple did more themselves. All the ML technology in iOS devices and it’s not used for their this app app in ways that make my life better. So there’s a lot to be desired here - uncreative.

Horrible

I keep trying to use Apple’s this app app because it’s one of the few to still offer a POP3 pickup ootion. POP3 is how I keep a zero inbox. I pick up on phone, answer what I need to answer, mark the rest as read… Boom. Zero inbox.

It’s amazing how those are all the features I need and the wiz bang email apps in Mail Store can’t deliver something this simple and yet powerful. (Can’t connect via POP3, everyone wants to use IMAP, can’t mark all email messages as read in two steps, etc.) It’s frustrating.

But I just can’t deal with the constant whoas of Mail any longer. It’s terrifically unstable, the UI sputters and stutters in terms of actually displayed the list of emails, won’t display certain messages (gives an error and says issue with the message), runs slow, stalls… you name it. A high school student with half a whit on how to write an iPhone app could have done better.

One of the largest technology companies in the world, and still one of the most important applications in the world, and Apple can’t write something that’s worth 3 stars much less than 5 stars, which is EXACTLY what the email app from Apple SHOULD do, and doesn’t. It’s whobbly AT BEST. Embarrassing, really, that Apple can’t even produce a stable app.

use your mail carriers app

dont use the this app app that apple supplies . they allow all kinds of messages mostly spam to enter my inbox messages that are only seen on Mail. I log into my gmail or yahoo from the source and the spam messages are nowhere to be found . Also the emails of spam are not addressed to my email they will be addressed to an email similar to mine with an aol tag and i do not nor have ever had an aol email but i keep getting spam messages to my inbox addressed to other email addresses .. I block email contacts and this application still allows them to come thru anyways . worst app ever , notifications have never worked in all my years of owning an iphone . i set notifications for alerts like a text message for when i get an email and i am never alerted i have to manually check my emails .

Filter emails option is broken

I have multiple email accounts in the this app app. In any account, when you click on the ‘Filter’ button to ‘filter by unread’ emails, option works perfectly and also persists that setting.

But, when you navigate away to another account or close Mail and return, the option is selected, but the filters are not applied. The user is forced to deselect the filter option and deselect it again for the proper behavior. Minor behavior issue but frustrating enough to be constantly noticed.

Search???

I have been using iOS apps for a long time. I have finally become so frustrated with this email app that I felt I had to warn people AWAY from it as I go find an email app that is useful.
There isn't even a rudimentary search feature in the email app, just sort by unread - not real useful. The obvious need for that feature has made me go to my web-based email to find specific emails that contain dates and other vital information…Not only time consuming but defeats Mail 's purpose.
For a company that has great guidelines for app development, they sure don't go in for applying them to their own apps - or even updating them to meet user complaints.
Anyway, Mail ONLY sends and receives email most times, and if that is all you want, use it.

Always Works - Keeps Accts Organized!

The this app app has come a long way in the last several years. I use it for both my iCloud and Outlook accounts and never seem to have any issues with sinking or not receiving messages. It’s been a workhorse and I can’t imagine not having it at this point. The only issue I run into once in a great while is that it requires me to re-sign into my outlook, but this seems to only happen maybe every six months. Other than that, I do wish it included the encryption needed to sync Protonmail inboxes, but oh well, it’s still amazing.

Horrible App

Alright so an app has to be really bad for me to take time out of my day to write a review about it—especially a generic, pre-installed email app.

Mail used to be just fine; I mean, how amazing can an email app be, right? But somewhere along the way Mail became counterintuitive and glitchy enough for me to notice.

Dozens of minor issues such as delays in sending/receiving emails, strange functionality such as archiving this app with a swipe rather than “reading” and/or deleting then being difficult to find archived this app, but they’ve all been rather minor inconveniences—that is until now where I’m completely unable to log back into my iCloud account from Mail . It’s been a vicious circle of glitches while trying to submit my email and password and starting over.

Needs a lot of improvement

It is a decent app for email, but just feels dated compared to 3rd party apps. There is no snooze, which I feel is crucial for an email app in 2021. GMail has no push notifications, I feel this should be something Apple can address, they have all my information in iCloud already encrypted, I don’t care if they store my Gmail credentials to pull emails, all 3rd party apps do it and who knows how they value your privacy. A lot of bugs as well fetching this app, so hopefully they keep cleaning bugs and improving it.

I was also having issues with my Outlook email account so I had to download the Outlook app to use it. Had not needed to do so until a month ago, so maybe it is something Microsoft or Apple broke recently.

Horrible

Apple this app has become an increasingly horrible app. Please, everyone, just use a third-party app like Outlook.

*this app takes absolutely forever to send. I was having a friend email me the notes I had written on their iPhone (mine was dead) for a report I’m writing. They sent the email through Apple this app at maybe 7:20 PM at the latest. Guess when the email finally sent? FOUR MINUTES AGO (10:21 PM). This is ridiculous. this app shouldn’t take THREE HOURS to send. Even the largest of emails, Outlook takes maybe a minute or two. But THREE HOURS?
*Really only integrates relatively well with iCloud. And even then is not a good integration. Integrations with Google, Outlook, Microsoft 365, etc. do not work well enough for it to be worth it.
*I’d write more but I’d rather not waste more time writing one-star reviews for APPLE APPS. Goodbye.

Apple Mail

Sadly enough I have to say this the most poor this app app. Even worse is it is developed by the company that is a 2 Trillion dollar company and not caring the quality of applications Apple is putting out on their latest and greatest devices. The this app app consistently gets stuck on a particular email if you minimize or close Mail while you are in that email. If you happen to delete that email from the inside of the open email, next time Mail opens with the message saying no email selected. I even turned off my iPhone 12 and restart the iPhone 12 still it is giving me the same message “No message selected”.
I cannot attach a document while I have the message open. It is just buggy app. Very disappointed with Apple😕
