Fun but mostly inaccurate.

Curious is fun. The cool little articles are interesting. The problem is very few of them are based on fact. They just go for sensationalism. It’s like going to the national inquirer for news. Most of their math problems have errors. The facts of their stories are certainly not checked. If there’s an internet meme they’ll publish it as fact. I saw one last week that talks about how wonderful woman is the oldest superhero comic besides Superman and Batman. Um, there are dozens superheroes older than that we still have around. Try captain America, the green lantern, all the avengers, aqua man, green arrow, all the fantastic 4 (though they weren’t a team yet, the list goes on too long for here. I see scientific “discoveries” that are decades old and disproven pretty much that long ago. They need to hire an actual editor for their stories before they go publishing random stuff. At least if they are claiming it’s non-fiction. I’m sorry if you are the “editor” of these things because they are full of misspellings, repeated paragraphs, missing parts of text, and general wrong information. The math is the worst. I’d say do t let your kids use this for learning math. Please. We need an informed generation to help out this ailing planet.

Don’t sign up for a not-free 7 day trial

I wanted to try it to see if I liked it so I signed up for the “free 7 day trial” and was charged $70 immediately. What the hell kind of free trial is THAT?! Applied for a refund through Apple so I’ll see how THIS goes.
Why are there so many reviews like this? It’s a cool app and I’ve used it up to the 8credits every day for a long time. Thought I’d check out what the full subscription offered me. Now I’m pretty upset. I don’t have that $70 I can spare until next week when Curious would renew. Terribly misleading to say the least.

*update* I WAS charged and I contacted Apple. They immediately (it showed as a refund the next business day) refunded me the full amount. Whatever issue this app has with Apple on this matter really should be rectified because it’s not just me that it happened to and now this issue overshadows any review for the actual app content and that’s a shame.
So besides THAT crappy glitch I enjoyed this app. Sure, some people could find all the individual offerings of Curious in other places perhaps but, will they? It IS a cool app with interesting diverse content based on your interests. Like a compiled news app, it’s nice to have what I didn’t know I was looking for yet presented to me in this format.

Start of my day

I begin each day with this app, starting with the puzzles then the articles. I’m really good at the. Up & Down but my favorite Is Unilingo. Ken Ken is too simple and boring for me but I still do it and end with the crossword that usually takes about 45 minutes for me to finish.(I’m not real bright) The articles and videos are very enlightening and informative. After I used the free version for about 3 months I decided to buy the full version. I spend more than what I paid for the full version, on junk stuff that I don’t need. I have yet had a chance to use the learning videos but I know I will in time.
Every day there is usually something interesting to share with my grandchildren that they may not learn in school.
For me, this app is a good entertainment investment and it gets two thumbs up.

Interesting bite sized lessons

Who knew that Boston had a massive molasses flood 100 or so years ago?!? I do now, thanks to this app. :)
As an insatiably this app (hehe) person with a short attention span, Curious is perfect for me.
I even read the articles which seem boring just going by the title. I still always come away with some small bit of information I hadn’t had before.
Another particularly fun aspect to Curious (for me, at least) is that most articles require that I pop over to a dictionary app, which always takes me down rabbit trails; the same is true with googling something especially interesting.
This is one of the few apps not pre-loaded on my phone that I truly enjoy and use almost daily.

Buggy, but enjoyable

I’ve had several issues where the “workout” for the day does not show the current day and it will not allow you to click on the correct date. I have been using Curious for a little over a month and I find it a useful addition to my morning routine.

Don’t expect any help from customer service

I wish I could rate the two separately. I love Curious , doing the puzzles daily is a challenge and a daily goal for me.
But the customer service is the worst I have ever encountered. I can access unlimited puzzles with my subscription on my laptop. But my iPad usage is limited to 8 CQ points a day, basically 2 puzzles, which is the free trial level. No matter how I try logging on, it tells me on the one hand that I already have full membership, but refuses to allow me full access. And customer service has been of absolutely no help. All they keep replying is that either I have a different sign on name, or that I don’t have a subscription. Total crap from them.

This app offers so much!

I have been using this app for several years. I have puzzles I use absolutely every day. Now my daughter also plays the puzzles. In addition, this app offers so much in courses to learn. I find myself learning about all kinds of things in addition to what I initially thought I might be interested in. I gave this app this rating because I have used the program without problem for so long, and have been able to satisfy myself that I have grown in ways that help my brain functions by participating in courses and puzzles.

Best app ever!

I really love Curious! In the short time I’ve had it I feel like I have grown so much! My curiosity is back and I’m really learning again. As a 40 year old SAHM Mom (with a PT business), I’ve tried many apps to give me the intellectual simulation that I really miss from my former career, but I’ve found most of them lead back to politics/negativity/pop culture that is making my IQ decrease by the second. Haha It is great to see and be exposed to so many topics of interest in short amounts of time because that is all you have to spare when small kids are involved.

Great daily learning exercise

I’ve been using the free version for over a year. The articles are great and I really enjoy the KENKEN puzzles. Really keeps you this app to keep coming back daily, even if it’s for only 10-15 minutes. My only issue is the text on the articles. this app uses a black background with white text, which is very uncomfortable on my eyes, and if I see it’s a longer article I’ll just pass because of that. Not sure if anybody else finds the white text on black background to be an issue.

Meh

I was so excited when I saw Curious and what it offered. I like learning about everything and Curious seemed perfect for me. However, I was sorely disappointed to find out I had to pay to get the full benefit of it and even more that the free version offers so little access. I’m still not decided if it’s worth the money to get info that I can easily find myself for free online. The free services should be expanded even if for a limited time so people can get a better feel for how great Curious appears to be and actually be convinced to pay for more access, but the very limited info available in free version is just not convincing me to spend my money here. Too bad.

Never stop learning!

I found this app by mistake, but it is now a regular part of my day. What first got my attention was the chance to learn American Sign Language. I have always wanted to, but have been unable to fit formal classes into my schedule. this app offers a chance to learn on my own time, and a year’s subscription for the whole site is much less than one course at a college! Now, I am always intrigued by the “curios” offered daily. And I *never* miss the Word of the Day from Merriam-Webster!

Accesibility issues on Ios 12

I just got Curious, and I've already found a few bugs using VoiceOver. I have found at least three problems with the puzzles already (one of them being I'm not getting any feedback at all if I'm getting an answer correct or not), and I had a difficult time when exercises came up in a curio because there was no way for me to navigate to a textbox where I could type my answer. Actually, no textbox showed up at all for me to type an answer. These are some of the more prominent issues with Curious. Please fix this so I can continue striving towards a better education. Thank you.

Haven’t used the app

Didn’t know I would have to agree to pay for Curious for a year just to try it for free. Get a 7 day trial and then you will be billed automatically which preys on people’s forgetfulness.

Should be a different category for apps with a pay plan like this. Gave it two instead of one star because I couldn’t actually rate Curious itself but this misleading tactic deserves a low rating in itself.

Edit moved it to 3 because I was able to try Curious in a very limited fashion a couple puzzles and was kind of enjoyable but gave a good idea of what Curious was.

Horrible

Curious is absolutely one of the worst experiences I’ve ever had with an IOS app. Curious itself is sub par at best I’ve had a better experience with other apps that can triple the benefits that Curious can deliver. Secondly the consumer support is absolutely terrible I’ve sent many emails to attempt and revoke a payment that they charged me for a “FREE TRIAL” they did not send an email asking if I wanted to continue but instead charged me 30$, and for that reason I am no longer able to download new apps, I can no longer update apps, and lastly I can no longer purchase songs or re-download any deleted content. Again do no download Curious, there are better options out there.

Fun games, bad info

I paid for Curious for a year because it seemed really exciting.

The games are fun. But you can easily find the same games for free other places.

The topical lessons are much poorer quality than many other sources like Lynda (free with library card) Udemy, Masterclass, and a dozen other professional lesson platforms.

As for the articles and info, that content isn’t based on fact. Their content appears to be news-style reporting on real information. That’s actually really dangerous for those who use Curious as a way to inform their world outlook. The data are irresponsibly used for the sake of sparking interest, the content is slanted with bias, and some of the information is just wrong. Opinions stated as fact are not great when they come from a source that people often view as an authority on information.

Either review, regulate, and edit your content for accuracy, journalistic integrity, and bias filtering, or get out of the news/current events/info world and stick to puzzles and number games.

Panacea

The only problem with Curious is you're only allowed to give it 5 stars. If you love info, self improvement, tutorials, then Curious is for you. In addition to the amazing knowledge, it's extremely user friendly and offers intermittent questions on some formats to see if you're comprehending the video. In conclusion to underscore my opening statement, I would give Curious 10 stars!

Great app. Thank you!!

After first using Curious I immediately bought the year long subscription - which is really affordable considering how much content it includes. The content is curated so I’m not aimlessly wandering the internet.

I am immensely grateful for this app because it helps me start the day with some mental exercises and some interesting, inspired stories. I also enjoy the wide selection of topics.

Thank you!!!

I’ve learned so much.... Awesome awesome app.

Curious is something else. I’ve leaned how to be a better artist, writer, listener, speaker, etc. it’s like have a fine tuned teacher of everything , and world paper or magazine all wrapped in one. I can’t always do it daily but I look forward to staying in touch with Curious a couple times a week. I absolutely love it. Worth every dime I spent to have it.

What happened to the puzzles?

I have loved Curious for years. Doing Today’s Puzzles - Unolingo, Ken Ken, Up Down Words etc has become a treasured part of my morning routine. Until I decided to upgrade! Since then the daily puzzles have completely disappeared from my app. I sent an email to support and still haven’t heard back. I am so sad that once I decided to pay for Curious , my favorite part of it was abruptly discontinued or just missing from my version. I welcome an reply from those in the know.

Never wanted the app in the first place

My girlfriend downloaded the game for the free trial and didn’t quit or tell me about the 70 dollar charge that was on the way. Okay I got screwed and paid the 70. I didn’t log in once to play all year and couldn’t find a way to quit it so now you guys are charging my card another year and I don’t have 70 on the card so I can’t update any apps until this issue is taken care of. I don’t want another year as I didn’t want the first year. You have emailed me for three months to pay or risk chance of losing the service. Please cancel my service

Customer Service is Crap

I used Curious for a year (forgot to cancel my free trial), and after a year I decided to renew it so I could share it with my dad for Father's Day. My ipad broke shortly thereafter, so I haven't been using it, but my dad has. I just found out that my dad has been using the free version b/c my subscription never renewed, despite having paid for it. Contacted customer service, and they told me I never paid for it, but if I thought I had, I should submit the date I renewed, the name on my credit card, and the last 4 digits of my credit card. I did this, and the next email said that since the charge was made through Apple, I would need to forward a copy of my credit card statement (heck no) or a copy of my email receipt (which I no longer have). Instead, I sent them screenshots of my apple purchases, and a screenshot of the portion of my credit card statement that shows the charge from Apple for that amount on that day. I'm sorry, but if you accept payment through Apple, then figure it out! It shouldn't be my burden to prove to you that I paid for your subscription. Since I sent all the information over yesterday, I have also left a message on Facebook, and I have yet to hear anything via Facebook or email. I would think that a company that charges so much for a subscription would prioritize helping paid customers ASAP. I am now beginning the process of making a complaint with Apple.

Price seems worth it.

Was a bit turned off by the price at first but I am enjoying my time with app. I have already learned a lot of new things. I enjoy the puzzles(wish there were more) and instructional videos.

More of this in our world, please!

The internet is a fantastic resource, but we can often get caught up in the frivolous side of it, neglecting the wealth of information at our fingertips. I'm a naturally this app person, and I'm stoked to take some of this back, furthering accessibility to fascination in my daily life. If this sounds like you too, I promise, you'll love Curious! Get it! As a side effect, you're bound to become everyone's favorite trivia buddy!
