I really like it but they should make a plan that’s free and you have to watch ads and maybe earn hearts like duolingo so we can learn but not have to pay because some people can’t afford this stuff. I am okay with watching ads and stuff but come on? You couldn’t make a free plan that offers stuff but you have to watch ads. I think there should be a paid one and an unpaid one. Like unpaid should be ads, a limited amount of hearts and you have to wait a little bit to regenerate them or you can watch 2 ads for 2 hearts like duolingo but you might wanna change it up a bit. Then maybe the premium should be a plan you pay for with no ads, unlimited hearts, and everything unlocked. This is just my opinion because some people cannot pay for this stuff because they have to pay for school or other stuff. But other than than I think this is a way better app then all the other ones that I have ever tried to learn another language and that’s really the only flaw that you only get a small trial and then your forced to pay for it and don’t even get a choice with ads or anything. The design and the way they teach the languages thought are on point and I think the progress that people make on here is so good and better than any other app. I would definitely use this if it had a free version with ads.

I am a new 18 year old college student and wanted to be able to learn new languages on my own time and MemriseEasyLanguageLearning looked promising. For the most part it is. I can say that i have learned some helpful words and romanization for the words, however, as amazing as MemriseEasyLanguageLearning is I find it incredibly frustrating that I cannot proceed without paying absurd amounts of money per month. I signed up for a free trial which in my opinion should mean that i have free reign of MemriseEasyLanguageLearning for the duration of a week. Unfortunately I am only able to take the first lessen, everything else is locked and if I wish to move on an add pops up on my screen to pay for the pro version. I understand that it is a way for the makers to get paid for MemriseEasyLanguageLearning but if MemriseEasyLanguageLearning is free then I should be able to believe that it will stay free. As an educational app that I know many people are using for their own benefit and growth there should be a way for individuals to use MemriseEasyLanguageLearning without having to pay so much. Even if that means that they can only do a lesson each day at least they can proceed to learn, and if they want to do more like an entire section then they could pay a small fee around about 5 to 10 dollars. I just find it slightly unfair that MemriseEasyLanguageLearning is shown as a free learning app and after being on it for 10 minutes it wants you to pay 20, 30, 50 dollars. MemriseEasyLanguageLearning is great but that main factor is what makes me dislike it immensely.

I’ve been using MemriseEasyLanguageLearning for the past 2-3 months consistently. I’m nearly done with Russian 1. Overall, it’s great software, intuitive, and it makes memorization seem easy.

My biggest criticism is the vocabulary. In the Russian 1 course, we learn about 400 words. However, these words are not the most common words that new Russian speakers would be using. For example, we learn the word for caviar long before we have learned the word for bread. What word do you think is more commonly used? I know caviar is popular is Russia, but personally, I think the latter. I wish a little more thought was put in to the curriculum, so students would be learning more applicable vocabulary. I find that in a lot of my Russian conversations, I am lacking knowledge of some basic words, while I know words that are a less commonly used.

I would still recommend MemriseEasyLanguageLearning. For $40, you get your money’s worth it terms of the quality and utility of this program. I just wish they put a little more thought into the Russian curriculum. Hopefully they will improve the vocabulary selection in the future to help out new Russian speakers.

I have been using Memrise for a couple years now and fell in love with it immediately. I had been studying Nihongo (Japanese) since I was young but never got to finish learning so this was an awesome way to refresh my memory and teach myself again.
Anyways, it’s been awhile since I’ve been able to sit down and study with MemriseEasyLanguageLearning and I just picked it up again tonight but am sort of uncomfortable with the ad pop ups, not for any other reason than just not wanting to click either option.
I love that you guys promote another version of your app that you have to pay for, but putting a rude or “sassy” option to close the ad is honestly annoying. I had a lot of respect for MemriseEasyLanguageLearning, still sorta do, but I feel like it’s now lost a bit of its approachable class for all ages and kinds of people.
Why not leave the option “No, Thanks. Maybe Later” cause not everyone has that much money to spare and having to choose “No, I don’t like people” or “Nah, I like to stay in my own little bubble 😒” is sort of condescending and juvenile.
Other than that, MemriseEasyLanguageLearning is good, but now I feel like it’s directed towards younger millennials and not the masses. It’s not that big of a deal, just annoying.

i love MemriseEasyLanguageLearning so much!! i’ve had it for about 20 hours and i was getting excited to do my next session of learning korean. unfortunately, i can’t proceed because it wants me to pay. just when i found the PERFECT app to learn a language with, it turns out it isn’t actually perfect. i unfortunately cannot pay because i don’t have any money because i’m a minor. i love absolutely love to keep learning with MemriseEasyLanguageLearning, but now i can’t. i would love for MemriseEasyLanguageLearning to be just free with ads with the choice of paying for extra features, but now i’m completely blocked from learning a language that i’ve wanted to learn for years. i’ve tried to learn korean multiple times with many apps and MemriseEasyLanguageLearning actually seems like it’s perfect for me, but now i can’t use it anymore. i understand that’s how you make money, but ads are also a way to make money, so why not just do that instead and leave people the option of they want to pay for extra features? let’s say maybe you can only learn a certain amount every day, but if you pay, you can learn as much as you want. see? that would be so much better. i’m actually so sad now that i can’t use MemriseEasyLanguageLearning anymore because it’s so good and i’ve never started to learn a language this fast on my own with an app. i hope you can maybe fix this so i can keep going!!

I have been using memrise in conjunction with Duolingo and a book set to learn Russian for a bit now. I’d totally give 5 stars, but there are a few issues, especially with the Russian course, that i feel need addressing. First of all, the way you learn the alphabet is a bit strange. I love how it gives you the character and the pronunciation, but sometimes in review, it gives you the sound of the letter and a few options in the English alphabet. For example, if there was a д sound, it would often just give me the choice of d instead of the character. This is a bit annoying since it doesn’t help me learn the alphabet, but rather makes me learn our alphabet, which I don’t really need reviewing on. I think it should at least incorporate the character, like show it alongside the sound button, or just have the character as an option. MemriseEasyLanguageLearning also doesn’t tel you what the characters are called, which is bad because if you only had MemriseEasyLanguageLearning , you wouldn’t be able to say what the character was, just the sound. Other than those alphabet learning issues, Memrise has definitely helped me with Russian, and I will definitely keep using it! Пака!

Memrise uses spaced repetition in order to help you memorize a word or phrase, as well as it has an option for mnemonics, which I think is great. I love memrise and I’ve been using it for 2 years with pro membership for learning languages. Nonetheless, there are some things I really hate. For example, some people cheat making ridiculous amounts of points and that makes me feel mad because the points I make I put the effort and time for them. So I think it’ll be a good idea to have limited amounts of points you can make in a day, something reasonable and human-capable.
Another issue I have is I’m a pro member and I can’t even review a general course with pronunciation, learn with locals, and listening skills. That was something that was available before and not anymore. It only works with individual lessons. So, why paying a membership if I can’t even make use of those features in a broader way?
When I review words in the website, it gives me +150 points per word/phrase whereas in the phone it only gives me +5, and I think that’s ridiculous. It should be even, doesn’t it? A year ago I gave 5 stars to MemriseEasyLanguageLearning , but now I’ll give it just 4 because there are things to improve.

When it was on sale I purchased a year-long subscription to MemriseEasyLanguageLearning and I’ve been really happy with it so far! It has a lot of great features and is intuitive to use but there are a few things I’ve been wondering about.

I majored in Japanese in college so using the Japanese II course in MemriseEasyLanguageLearning has been mostly review, which is fine, and I’m excited to get to Japanese III to see more new material, but so far MemriseEasyLanguageLearning has included no usage of katakana, and has only been teaching kanji separate from the vocab and grammar taught in MemriseEasyLanguageLearning . Ultimately words written in katakana are never practically written in hiragana, and while it’s been handy learning the kanji individually, I guess I just hope MemriseEasyLanguageLearning begins integrating both in more fully with the vocabulary and grammar being taught. I’d like to renew my subscription for next year if it seems there’ll be more to learn from it, but I suppose I’m wondering if a developer has any information on if I just haven’t gotten far enough in the lessons to see katakana and kanji become actually integrated or if there’s a plan for that in the future and if a Japanese IV is perhaps in the works?

So for anyone who’s looking for an app with a good Japanese course, this is definitely the best I’ve seen, but it still feels like there’s an amount missing that you see available intermediate Japanese text and workbooks.

I’ve used Memrise to learn Japanese, and I actually liked the older version more when it came to memorizing hiragana and katakana because there were submitted ways to differentiate similar characters/strokes. This current version I only use free stuff, but I wish ya’ll could make when you end a review, if you get a vocab wrong, please have the word in the list either in furigana or romanji. It’s annoying just to show kanji because in Japanese many kanji have different sounds, and it’s irritating just to go to different chapters and hunt down the list I want to find the word to correctly memorize it. Another thing, please make the difficult mark be able to disappear in the free version. It’s annoying when I get one word wrong, it marks it difficult, and then it won’t leave no matter how many times afterwards I get it right. As far as course goes, its good, but it doesn’t always review old vocab, so unless you’re actively trying to speak or write/read, its easy to casually forget. Another thing is occasionally it will mark a correct answer wrong, like my answer and the “right” answer are literally the same so it’s aggravating when its saying its wrong when its not

I’ve tried so many language apps, and this one is so far my favorite. It’s very immersive and repetitive, letting you hear, see, and say the words. I tried the Russian and the Korean courses as far as I could for the free version. For the Russian one, it gives you a conversation and has you answer a question about it at the end - you won’t understand everything said, but you’ll be able to grasp enough to answer the question. It’s very cool and motivating.
There are a couple of things that I think could be added/addressed to make it even better. For one, writing practice. It does have you type words, but it doesn’t show you how to actually write either Hangul or the Cyrillic alphabets.
The second thing is making a point to differentiate between formal and informal versions of words. So far, it’s only taught the informal versions for both languages - which is a huge no-no in Korean at least. I’m not sure how seriously formality is taken in Russia, but - still, you want to be able to greet a stranger properly (for example, hello is здравствуйте (zdravstvutye) for formal, привет (privyet) for informal).

Even aside from that, this is the best learning app I’ve tried from what I can tell.

Let me start out by saying I liked MemriseEasyLanguageLearning enough pay the subscription. It's a nice friendly app, and they have a lot of good content.

That being said, I find it a pretty significant drawback that you have no control over how much repetition you get other than the "difficult words" – which more often than not represent times I was tired and misclicked. This feature would be a lot more useful if you could manually adjust the difficult words on the phone app as you can on the website, but feature parity is lacking here.

Better, though, would be the ability to tell MemriseEasyLanguageLearning how much repetition you need both per data set and per word. For instance, for the Spanish vocab set I need far fewer repetitions in MemriseEasyLanguageLearning wants to give me, and for the Chinese set, I want way more. Even with in each language, there is variation by word – some Spanish words just don't click, and some Chinese words I've heard before or just seem natural. The lack of the sort of adaptability makes me not want to use MemriseEasyLanguageLearning for very long in a single session, or on consecutive days, because the practice feels extremely repetitive and not a good use of my time, even if I do nothing but "learn new words".

I started using the Japanese module last year to supplement self-study, and it was frustrating. You only got hiragana, so words that are normally written in katakana looked wrong and were hard to read. Some kanji were introduced, but they weren’t really useful (e.g., tree, but no sentences using it). It’s almost always rude to address someone as “you,” but the module was full of sentences like “You look tired.”

This has all been fixed, and I’m getting a lot out of it. They start with hiragana, and once you get the hang of that, they start throwing kanji at you for new vocabulary that’s normally written in kanji. It’s hard, but it’s a lot better than learning the words in hiragana and then having to relearn them in kanji. At level 16, you start learning katakana. They’ve also introduced names to use in place of “you” (e.g., “Ms. Riho looks tired”), which is the polite way to address people.

The Japanese module is probably best for supplementing more-conventional study, and it will be perfect for someone who knows a little Japanese and wants to refresh or relearn it, such as someone who had a semester of Japanese in college years ago.

I have downloaded and tried all the Spanish apps and this one is by far the best. There are several things I like about it: 1) It has lots of repetition and review of previous lessons, which is really what you need to learn a language. I have taken a Spanish class and used apps and they want to move you along so fast that you forget what you learned before. 2) The quality of the videos with local people is better and holds your attention more than any of the other apps, and gives you multiple different dialects to hear and the body language that goes along with it. This is probably the most natural way to learn other than actually being with people speaking Spanish. 3) They give you the basic meaning translation and the literal translation which I really appreciate. Even Spanish textbooks will not do this which I find frustrating. They want you to memorize the meaning without actually understanding the words you are saying. I feel if you want to understand a language you need to know exactly what you are saying. Thank you! Nobody elae does this. 4) The subscription fee is reasonable, and they don’t constantly harass you. They give you a good sample before they ask you to subscribe. There are lots of other apps that charge more and are way less quality. I am really happy I found this one.

This is an awesome app!!!! Maui easy to learn Spanish in a quick and easy to understand way that is very fun ! I love the videos of the native speakers ( so cute to see them speaking in their native language and having a big smile on their faces! ) I been really wanting to learn Spanish and tried using Rosetta Stone, but it is soooo expensive and being a full time college student I couldn't afford it. To have MemriseEasyLanguageLearning available right on my phone it is so cool to be able to work on a few words as I get time throughout the day! I purchased the PRO version to have all the available extras and it was mui worth it !! I really really loved the section where it has me practice typing words and then sentences in Spanish ! Favorite and most helpful app I have EVER purchased ! When I graduate I am so excited that I will now be able to speak to my Spanish clients in their own language - maybe not quite fluent but understandable to communicate and I am mui confident that I will be fluent in a mui short time ! Thank you so much for such an enjoyable and fun way to learn a skill that will be so helpful to me DAILY as I work to help those in my community as a social worker ! Gracious!

I love languages and in my opinion this is the best app there is for learning vocabulary - and let’s face it, learning vocabulary is the most important part of language learning but the most tedious. Not anymore with MemriseEasyLanguageLearning!! It feels like playing a game, but a game you will not feel guilty about playing :) I’ve used it so far for German, some Mandarin Chinese and some Italian and can only recommend it. The videos they’ve added with locals speaking the phrases are amazing. Of course I don’t recommend this as your ONLY source of language learning if you want to learn a language fast - that requires a combination of speaking face to face with someone, reading/translating longer texts, and maybe listening to a podcast / songs and watching some movies / videos in the language, but for the “annoying part” aka vocabulary learning and memorization, throw away your flash cards and vocabulary lists and just get MemriseEasyLanguageLearning :) I promise you it’s waaay more fun. Also, if you’ve got only 5-20min a day to learn a language I think this is the most effective way to use those minutes because it makes sure that what you DO learn in that short time actually sticks to your memory.

I’ve been using Memrise for years.. I started way back when anyone could make a learning deck and almost left when they took that feature away and made it exclusively their own learning decks. And while I do wish they would in some way reincorporate that feature I am glad that I stayed (and became a pro member) because everything else they’ve done with MemriseEasyLanguageLearning keeps getting better and better. I love the new grammar learning sections so you’re actually learning grammar rules and not just memorizing vocabulary, and I really hope they expand that and add audio to it. I also really love the learning with locals sections, and I really hope they expand those as well. That’s probably the most effective thing around for hearing how a native speaker would actually say what you’re learning.
All in all, this is one of the best language learning tools out there. I would (and do) choose it over duolingo anytime (especially seeing duolingos new model). Combining memrise with something like Michel Thomas audio, some native books and movies, and an app that connects you to native speakers, and you can learn a language from scratch to fluent in 6-12 months.

MemriseEasyLanguageLearning is simply stunning not only in its effectiveness but also simply the way it looks and feels when you use it. I used to use Duolingo only and now I simply use that app to compliment this one! Another great aspect would be that you don’t have to necessarily pay to learn, you can learn everything you need for free but at the same time you can purchase the premium membership (a membership, might i add, that is definitely worth it) so as to enhance your experience and learn faster. I have been referring my friends to use MemriseEasyLanguageLearning and they all seem to like it. Personally I have been using it for French for maybe a few months now, and i simply love the program, and I plan to use it to learn german starting around the new year. I was also wondering if perhaps you could add in some more languages, my key example being Hindi, as both myself and friends (and I’m sure many others who use MemriseEasyLanguageLearning) would be thrilled to see more languages added. So to put it simply, everyone I know who uses MemriseEasyLanguageLearning as well as myself simply adore it, and want to thank, and congratulate you, on your tremendous effort you have put into it, so as to help us all learn, and better ourselves.

This is coming from someone who has studied Japanese in college. I decided to use this to review and hopefully learn some new things. If you already know a good amount of Japanese already just skip to Japanese 2. The Japanese at this level is still fairly basic but it provides a lot of Kanji to learn and vocabulary as well. I think the key part of MemriseEasyLanguageLearning that may benefit a lot of people is its heavy use of vocals, which includes *some* examples from native speakers as well. Most of the vocal examples are slow and chopped up which would help break things down for new learners, but your key examples of how you should speak come from the short clips of actual Japanese people. The greatest (and yet annoying) part of MemriseEasyLanguageLearning is just how much you review material. Every time you have a lesson where you learn something new, you will have like 2 lessons of review before you learn something else. I say it’s annoying because I already know a lot so I don’t feel like I need to review things a million times, but in all honesty this method drills the knowledge into your brain effectively. If you want to get the most out of this make sure you repeat back everything you hear so you can learn it faster and retain it. Solid app so far.

I love Duolingo and use it every day, but I find some languages on MemriseEasyLanguageLearning are better set up than others. When I started learning Danish, I kept using it as obsessively as I had with other languages, but I found that something was missing. Memrise fills in the gap with native speakers in brief clips, reinforcing the correct pronunciation I’d been struggling with mastering on the Duolingo app. It’s also so helpful to see phrases and words in repetition on MemriseEasyLanguageLearning, which helps enormously with memorizing new words. I’m going to use both of these apps in tandem and I’m extremely excited to start using Memrise as part of my daily routine and to try out other languages on MemriseEasyLanguageLearning as well. I’m only on level two but I love it so far!

EDIT: However, I think it is incredibly pricy for the limited amount of words that are available. The highest level will get you some elementary vocabulary, but 60 a year or 9 dollars a month is just far too expensive for something that does not get you in depth understanding of the language. It is set up incredibly well but until the developers offer a higher level of fluency and additional levels I can’t imagine myself paying for it, which is very disappointing.

I’ve enjoyed and paid for MemriseEasyLanguageLearning for a while, but I’ve just been told that all community-created courses — which is to say, the vast majority of the courses available, and the majority of the courses that I use — will be removed from MemriseEasyLanguageLearning shortly and placed on a website with far less functionality. This is extremely disappointing. I am hurt that MemRise will remove these useful courses while I and many others are in the middle of learning from them. I am not convinced that the few remaining MemRise-created courses are high enough quality to justify the continued use of MemriseEasyLanguageLearning .

ETA — while I do not appreciate the response sent to my review, which falsely implies that the Decks website was originally designed to have anywhere near the functionality of MemRise (as their announcements made clear, it was not), I do appreciate that they have listened to the customer outrage over this decision and made a better decision. Decks will now be designed to have an app with offline mode (a crucial feature for many users, such as myself) and community courses will be able to remain on MemRise while MemriseEasyLanguageLearning is being developed. Changing my review to 5 stars.

I’ve been using this for awhile now, and I have to say it’s really lost a lot of use for me. What most annoys me is it doesn’t seem to sync very well with the website, which is unfortunate since features like ignore and removing courses don’t seem to exist on MemriseEasyLanguageLearning (which I use fairly often to keep everything fairly consistent) Instead to properly sync it seems like I have to delete the ENTIRE app every time and log back in, which gets extremely tedious and annoying.
I’d also like to add that the little full page ad for pro SHOULD NEVER BE popping up DURING lessons like it has just started doing! That is a horrendous practice and will make me not only stop using your app but also tell people to stay away from it at all costs because it’s effectively ruining the experience and makes me very less likely to purchase a membership. I don’t want a pro license thrown in my face; I’d rather have the features you have for free speak for themselves, and if you feel so much like what you’re giving as a primer doesn’t speak enough for the quality of your content that you have to use (actually extremely harmful and distasteful business practices) to sell your pro membership then maybe it’s your site that isn’t up to that quality of asking price yet (especially when there’s tons of much cheaper options out there and I know this was a much better service BEFORE this started happening)
