EmpowerRetireSmart continues to over promise and under deliver. There are few useful features in EmpowerRetireSmart, and RetireSmart is not compatible with any 3rd party financial tracking applications. This fact is not explained, but rather the customer discovers this only after having the impression that the accounts have been successfully linked.

The representative explained that although it will allow you to connect the application (Personal Capital, in my case) the RetireSmart platform will not allow it to connect after this initial attempt. Which results in your account being locked and the forces you to call in (only between 8 - 8 Eastern) to unlock it.

If RetireSmart is so keen on limiting access to the account from 3rd party financial applications, they should aim to provide some features for their clients, instead of simple collecting fees from them as so many cash cows.

EmpowerRetireSmart is amazing, I can move my investments around, I can change my contribution, I can read the prospectus of the investments, I can see the fees! It's simply amazing.
There was a recent update (version 7.0) that was horrible and did not let me log in. Now they have fixed it and it's back to working perfectly.

Latest version still reads clipboard at launch. Why?

I have various retirement accounts at several different institutions. Compared to the apps from other providers, The MassMutual app it is barely acceptable on a basic functionality level. It loses one more star because it grabs the contents of the iOS clipboard every time you start EmpowerRetireSmart . Why does my employer’s retirement account provider need to know what’s on my clipboard from another application?

Seems intrusive.

EmpowerRetireSmart is easy to use and has solid functionality; however, there is a fairly major security flaw.

Unless I hard close EmpowerRetireSmart, when I reopen it EmpowerRetireSmart will display the last screen I was on for 2-3 seconds before it asks for login. This is more than enough time to take a screen shot and for someone to see personal information. This needs to be addressed urgently.

Compared to Fidelity’s App, I can only rate this bad. Problems are many- 1) touch-I’d login will stop working if for what ever reason there is no 4G , and will not connect ever after. You would download EmpowerRetireSmart again.
2) EmpowerRetireSmart does not true reflect vested balances, sometimes for days
3) not all transactions can be made via app
4) instantaneous market ups and downs are also a problem. One would have to wait until 8:30pm for that every day. If you are lucky, the vested balance are reflected.

I wrote a review before and somehow is gone from EmpowerRetireSmart store. Beware with RetireSmart, they manipulate the valuation days. Sometimes you get valued the same day you get paid and sometimes a week after or even two weeks. This pretty annoying. Recently I saw my contribution to be held for a week to be valued yesterday when the Stock Market rebounded and was up 3% after being down for a week. My contribution should have been valued at 3% discount. That’s not coincidence.

I’m sure EmpowerRetireSmart would be good if it actually worked. However, every time I attempt to login, I get a pop up box that says, “Something went wrong. If the problem persists, please log out and try again later”.
Well I log out and try again later and continue to get the same message. So I have yet to be able to login and view my accounts, hence my title for EmpowerRetireSmart as useless......If I was able to give it no stars I would, but you must select at least one

Whenever I open EmpowerRetireSmart my phone says it’s taking the contents of my clipboard without any clear reason why. It’s never explained what this information is used for and could possibly be going to advertisers or sold. If you ever have sensitive information in your clipboard you need to clear it before opening EmpowerRetireSmart or it may be used for unknown purposes. Really sketchy for an app focused on financial information.

New updates seems to have extra security features, but these are pathetic in performance, seems you have not checked whether your features work at all. Moreover you have mandated these to even open EmpowerRetireSmart .

Pathetic planning and dumb product owners. Don’t strech your things so much that we shun your product because of pathetic app performance and holding hostage to perceived security features (which are also poorly planned, that is for another review)

EmpowerRetireSmart is fine but the latest update doesn’t allow third party apps to connect. So, if you use any other financial app where you group your assets and debts into something that’s practical to manage you’re out of luck. Still use EmpowerRetireSmart , just wish they’d left well enough alone. Oh, and if you get the other RetireSmart app you can link to it all you want as long as you prefer a dumbed down version of what you’ve been using.

IF EmpowerRetireSmart is actually available it is GREAT. It make moving funds, managing investments and adjusting contributions easy. Problem is it’s often unavailable, therefore you cannot access your information. I have deleted and added EmpowerRetireSmart back numerous times and yet this issue seems to reoccur.

Would be great if I could contact someone about it or get information online but there is nothing.

When I try to enable Touch ID I get a pop up saying "Touch ID cannot be enabled because it is currently active for a different account in this device." which is BS because there is only one other Mass Mutual account (closed but Mass Mutual will not remove it) and Touch ID cannot be enabled for that either.

This frustration earns it a one star rating.

Really like EmpowerRetireSmart, but every time I have to provide my credentials to loving. Not even options to remember my credentials. Would be better it those are added.

App does what I needs it to, gives me quick info on balances and what not. My only gripe is that face id for login just doesn't work, it says it failed every time but doesn't seem like it actually tries to detect

I know the splash screen says updates are happening etc etc. however it’s been a very long time. It won’t remember log in info etc and is NOT quick.
Other features are good however.

Good app. I use it a lot. But, I recently got a 12.9” 2020 ipad pro and EmpowerRetireSmart will not display on it. Just disappears. Please fix this. Thanks!

Wish it wouldn’t sign me out every day. Security—sure, but there are ways to keep it secure without going through email, password, and SMS (by the way, not secure!).

Reports and funds segmentation could’ve been more native and clear, rather than just sending me to a PDF.

It would be a whole lot better if you could see month to month changes similar to the vanguard app. It’s hard to see rate of return and contributions by month. Overall EmpowerRetireSmart isn’t bad.

EmpowerRetireSmart used to be helpful... for the last month (I assume after some kind of update) it no longer opens- immediately crashes on launch. Redownloading EmpowerRetireSmart does nothing to fix it. Changing its access to background refresh / notifications does nothing. App is completely broken.

This is possibly the worst app I have ever used. Which is a huge concern since this company handles my annuity. If i had the option to move my money from this company I would just so I didn’t have to deal with EmpowerRetireSmart. In the last 4 months I have had to call in at least 10 times to deal with app issues.

Simple and easy to use app but very limited features; no ability to change investments.

EmpowerRetireSmart works well and very informative, but I would like to be able to see each individual loan and how much is left to pay it off. And maybe the option to pay it through EmpowerRetireSmart .

EmpowerRetireSmart has very little to offer if you just have a 401k plan with them. The only available information is the amount in each fund, your total vested balance, and your YTD return. No options for anything else. Can’t even see the balance between Roth and Traditional let alone employee vs employer contributions. Looks like something you’d expect from a much smaller provider.

EmpowerRetireSmart provides everything I want to see at a glance. My balance, my contributions and my investments. Well done MassMutual.

EmpowerRetireSmart shows pretty much all I need to know along with being able to make certain changes. The only problem is it will say it’s current as of whatever day, yet the information about my contributions hasn’t updated in over two weeks.

In the last year EmpowerRetireSmart has made some fantastic changes. It was user awesome! I have been impressed with the platform, the functions and the simplicity all rolled together into a profesional app for the not so professional investor. Then today!!! The update has just ruined it all. I hate it!!! It won’t even simply login without complications.

EmpowerRetireSmart basically confirms “yes we have your money.” It gives tremendously limited information on returns (only year-to-date) and has absolutely no investor education or retirement planning tools. Very little interest in helping you get there, let’s put it that way.

I wish their website was as user friendly.

Of all the financial apps this is the worst. I sometimes wonder if u can trust a company with your money if they cant produce an app that works consistently and will allow access to your account info on one day and not the next even if u reinstall it. Fingerprint option also does not work consistently.
