Function is hit and miss, zero support from company

I have been using, or attempting to use 3M for several months. If the stars are aligned just right it may work. It shows it is connected and the green “vu meter” bar on the computer screen (and in 3M ) light up when I speak. Unfortunately, nothing transcribes most of the time. About every third or fourth use it will work but only if I’m in a speech box as they call it. If I happen to click out of that box to look up something like a patient’s age or weight in my EMR and try to go back to the speech box and continue dictating I’m out of luck. It simply won’t do it. At that point I get an alert box saying “M*Modal Fluency Direct was unable to recognize your dictation. Please make sure correct microphone is selected and calibrated. “
Needless to say nothing works at that point. Even if I close everything (losing all my dictation) and restart it usually won’t recognize the phone mic.
Does support answer my numerous feedbacks? No! Do they care? Apparently not. 3M is like some amateurish free app you see out there except medical documentation is serious business. Too bad the mmodal jokers don’t understand that.

Works Very Well

I have been using 3M to dictate all of my clinical notes. It is very accurate and I rarely have to make corrections. It works better than shall I say, Siri. 3M has worked flawlessly for me. I am impressed how easily it connects to my phone. I will definitely continue to use 3M.

Great

Works as advertised. Accuracy as good as with dedicated microphone in my office. Also works well on iPad. Does occasionally need to be reconnected using the setup process. About every other week. Not quite as slick as dedicated microphone hardware, but much, much faster than typing....

Crashes

If this worked consistently it would be spectacular. Easy to use and set up. However, I cannot keep it connected. It crashes after only 3-4 min of use. It still appears to be connected, but will not pick up any dictation. If I close it 3M and log out on the computer, SOMETIMES I can get it to work for another 3-4 min. It’s taking me forever to get my notes done, and I don’t have the option to bring home a real microphone! I don’t have time for this!!!

Terrible

Ultimately 3M fails because dictation is almost always wrong. I use other dictation apps without any issue. I speak clearly without an accent and 3M manages to blow it and is particularly poor at handling medical jargon. Odd because a different hospital I work for also uses m modal inpatient and it works great with provided mics.

Last update broke it

Was working great until I updated yesterday. Now it disconnects and I have to close 3M altogether to get it to connect again.

Horrible dictation app

Doesnt consistently work, freezes, doesnt have good voice recognition, skips randomly ahead or lags horribly. I have to use it for work but i would otherwise not recommend. I have resorted to typing instead because of this apps unreliable nature.

Not Working this week

I came back from time off for the holiday and it hasn’t been working this week.

Want this to work

Liked option, but can’t seem to keep connection. Even disconnects in middle of dictation, close proximity to computer. Nothing else loses connection though.

Not connecting

Keeps saying unable to connect. Very hit or miss on that

Minor issue with AirPods dictation

No issue otherwise but with AirPods and dictation, picks up lot of noise. Needs some improvement with AirPods. But I love 3M.

Needs a dark mode

An OLED dark mode would be excellent to help preserve battery life.

Crashes

Crashes while dictating. I have to log out of 3M and quit M*Modal, restart, log back in and resume dictating. Works for random lengths of time but never longer then about 3 minutes.

You need all day.

Cero stars! Too slow to access, is like trying access internet on a 56kb modem.

BROKEN APP

After last update it’s broken

OMG

They claim to have AI built into this.If anyone wants to feel good that no robot is going to take their job, they should use 3M for that purpose. I don’t think anybody who works in Silicon Valley would put up with this nonsense for one second.

Love this thing!

I love that I don't have to bring my microphone home to use Fluency Direct. I always have my iPhone so I'm ready to dictate whenever! I set it up with my login and never had to fuss with it again. I just press record and go!

Lousy

I spend more time making corrections, which is particularly frustrating as I am working with one broken arm. It Does not use context to select the correct form of the word, for example HIGH versus HI
FOR versus FOUR. Does not recognize simple words such as day (it wrote DE rather than DAY, even though the rest of the text was in English). It only correctly transcribes the date about 75% of the time; for example instead of 5/23/19 it writes 5/20 3/19. It inserts the wrong form of parentheses at the start of the parenthetical phrase, it capitalizes in inappropriate places and fails to capitalize in others.
For a program that supposedly is geared towards medical transcription, it fails To recognize many common medical terms. I do not have time, energy, nor of the will to spend hours training it, as I expect a program of this nature to already have the user in mind.
I am more frustrated than helped by this program. I look forward to having the use of both of my arms so I can revert to typing with two hands and won’t need this sorry excuse for a dictating system.
