Joint accounts

2024-11-17

My husband and I have joint accounts and I cannot see when he spends something for days. That’s very difficult since I am the one balancing the checkbook and when he is at work he cannot always call home to let me know what he spent. It used to not be like this if it came out of my account it used to post immediately just like when I spend something out of our account. I also cannot see his card and block it in case he lost it or something was wrong like I can my card. Your version of a joint account really isn’t a joint account and is very unhelpful to people that actually need a joint account. It also doesn’t send notifications off his card only mine which is no help if someone was committing fraud. He has to sign in his account and he only gets alerts on his card and I have to sign in my account (same accounts very dumb) and I only get notifications off my card. Again that is not a joint account. We had Wells Fargo before coming here and the only reason we did is because Bbva was closer but if these issues aren’t resolved soon we will be switching back to a better bank. When fraud hit us in the past I was able to lock all our stuff down immediately and notify Wells Fargo because of their amazing notifications from both of our cards meaning anything coming out of our account whether it was my husbands card or mine I got an immediate alert and their account set up is far better than this.

Terrible service when you experience bounced check

2024-11-17

It is all good until you get a bounced check. I used it for the past month to make mobile deposit. I saw a returned check charge back and financial service fee associated with it. The problem? You cannot tell which mobile deposit was returned? Not even if you log into online service. I had to call customer service. They could not tell either and had to do research on that for about 30 min to figure it out. The worst part they cannot even give me any proof of it. It took the power of congress and they finally agreed to send me a letter to prove it. Total time spent for me: 47 minutes on the phone for $10 returned check. The customer service even suggested me showing my account history to the person ti prove the returned check. How ridiculous is that? Imaging if you need to take the person to court or returned check authority it is nearly impossible if you have to deal with a large check. So use it for mobile deposit at your own risk. They do not have this disclosure. I am not going to use it anymore!

The Bank that Lost Its Way

2024-11-17

We bank with TD, Chase and USAA, so I write this review with some experience in how other financial institutions bank their customers. As a bank, no one could beat the customer service and advancements of Compass Bank. After BBVA took over, however, the quality of bank products, technology advancements and most definitely customer service has plummeted to all new lows. BBVA Compass has lost its way and lived out its useful life. Their reliance on branch banking, old or cheap technology and poorly paid customer service reps makes them an irrelevant dinosaur in this industry. For better, worldwide service, the ability to transact online or by phone from anywhere in the country or world (and for FAR better funds availability practices), consider closing your account and taking your money elsewhere. I’d close mine but I now live in a state without a branch location, and among the other services I don’t have access to, I was informed account closure is not permitted without going into a branch.

Very poor customer service

2024-11-17

My parents have always used this bank. Even when it was Central Bank long ago and so they insisted I use them when I moved back to town 8 years ago and I have had so much trouble that I can’t even type it all out here. It would take too long. But their customer service is not good especially at the branch in Leeds, Alabama. I have had a few friends that closed accounts with them already and I’m about to follow them once I get my account straightened out and over draft fees they are charging me from fraudulent charges that they have refunded. But they are still charging me the overdraft fees that were from the fraudulent charges from my stolen debit card. I really hope my direct deposit goes in without a problem while I get this cleared up. I know it’s not the bank that I or any of my close friends would recommend.

I’m sorry to give anybody a beat down but this bank is TERRIBLE!

2024-11-17

Where do I even start? When they were still Compass, they were good. There is no end to how they can make like hard now. My mom had her 5 figure account here for 15 years, BBVA Compass updated their software and prohibited her from having an account listed as a trust (after many months) unless she had a lawyer (at an expensive rate) rename the account. She went to another bigger bank... NO PROBLEM!
I made a deposit in the ATM after hours and it took the deposit but only said “thank you...”, no confirmation of the amount, date, etc. When I called, the woman said, “Oh, that was a malfunction!” No explanation or reversal of fees due to the malfunction.
I have waited in the drivethru lane for 25 MINUTES only to go inside to see that the teller was flirting with a customer inside.
Bank here if you love pain.

Okay app Terrible processes

2024-11-17

BBVAUnitedStates is okay. I mean I only have an auto loan with BBVA so it’s only used once a month. No complaints there. The terrible process part comes in when you have to change your phone number. Omg it’s a hassle! First BBVAUnitedStates states you would need an one time pin that will be sent to your old number to update. The point of me updating my number is because I don’t have the old number. Your phone number is linked to everything for some reason. To set up Face ID, phone number. To add a bank account, phone number. To do anything whatsoever, phone number. So to change my number I decided to just call BBVA...USELESS. They act like changing your phone number requires 10 different processes that, of course, they can’t do. C’mon guys, I’m not changing my social security number. Just a simple phone number. This been going on for a couple months now. Get it together guys.

For banking - app not the best

2024-11-17

While you are able to make some of the basic functions - like Check your balances.
Many advanced and convenient options are still not built in, like “travel notifications”... they require you to make a phone call? What is this 1990? Also a regular issue with BBVAUnitedStates I have found is functionality and stability. App crashes often or cannot perform requested operation. Overall BBVAUnitedStates feels like it’s a “beginners attempt” or software developer is very “home made”.

While I understand this might be a work in progress and maybe BBVA corporation is dealing with infrastructure and platform issues as it combines all its acquired new institutions in a whole range of countries : in comparison to other banking apps in US based banks today: there is so much work to be done - definitely sub-par. Constantly disappointing.

As far as the other issues that many have rated low for as in the errors or technical issues with the banking side - that’s a whole other review - I keep bank out of sheer convenience of ATM placement : but I only keep a hundred bucks or so for quick access - keep my day to day banking, and investments somewhere else where I know I will have support.

BRING BACK TEXT ALERTS!!!

2024-11-17

I’m a longtime Compass Bank(now BBVA) customer, and I used to love their banking app. Now, not so much. Why? Because for some impossible to understand reason they decided to remove the option to have alerts by text! This is like stepping back ten years. Before the change, my debit card was compromised. I immediately heard the sound of a text alert coming in (the $1 charge of the thief testing my card) and was able to turn my card off before any damage was done. Then, when my new card came in I was told the bank was “getting away from texts.” This is going to cause a lot of folks big problems! If you hate this as much as I do, please let BBVA know. Hopefully they’ll bring text alerts back! Otherwise, I’m seriously considering a change of banks.

App works as intended but ...

2024-11-17

For the past few months I’ve been getting locked out of my account basically every time I try to sign in . It’s annoying because I have to answer the security questions to unlock my account even though I know I put in the right password . But that problem has evolved and now it’s not even letting me answer the security questions anymore . It tells me to tap “ Forgot Password “ which I reluctantly do and it brings me to a screen where I have to enter my social and other info . I enter the info and double check if it’s correct and it sends me back to the original login screen with nothing resolved .. still locked out . Maybe I’m making a user mistake here or it’s a bug within BBVAUnitedStates . Either way an explanation and the problem being fixed would be nice . BBVAUnitedStates works great when you’re actually able to login ... this has been my only problem so far .

Good, could be better

2024-11-17

While I absolutely think BBVAUnitedStates could use an aesthetic makeover, particularly with the slickness and modernity of the new BBVA USA website/logo mark, etc; BBVAUnitedStates is very good at what it does, and is quite intuitive. Transactions seem to post rather quickly, and I love BBVAUnitedStates ’s commitment to debit transparency. Customer service’s responsiveness via in-app secure message, is glacial. And, given the number of fees that this bank charges, there’s no excuse for the lack of in-app chat functionality. Additionally, the single time I had to call phone support, I was passed around like a hot potato, and this is due to the concerning lack of clarity around Apple Pay activation. This activation should be able to be accomplished in-app, or via an automated line.

Mobile App Review Only (not online)

2024-11-17

BBVA’s mobile app is wonderful & I truly do love it. The only reason I can’t give it the full 5 star rating is because it does, on occasion, hit spells where it just shuts down or won’t load your information. For me, this may last anywhere from a few minutes to a day. IT DOESN'T HAPPEN OFTEN THOUGH 🙂 That’s important to me. BBVAUnitedStates is user friendly, has many great & actually FUN to use features, allows you to make pmts & transfer funds in real time, set up acct alerts & notifications that can be sent to your email and/or your text msgs...I could go on & on. It’s just an all around, great banking/financial mobile app with great bonus features. I ♥️ it!

Great App - Horrible NSF Fees

2024-11-17

BBVAUnitedStates has been well made for quite some time. I could imagine it being better in the near future with graphs and calendar views of your bills and expenses and such, but at present it works great.

Their NSF fees are wicked. They charge $38 for each transaction and up to SIX fees per day. That means if you have six small transactions (even as small as just $1), they'll charge you $228 of fees. And on top of that, they'll repeatedly do this without care or concern regarding the total amount of fees. They'll even charge you NSF fees if you have automatic transfers from one account to another. I even once got an NSF fee for accidentally using the wrong debit card at a BBVA ATM. It was my own doing obviously, but the ATM allowed me to do it. Yikes.

BBVA COMPASS THE RIGHT SIZE BANK

2024-11-17

Banking to me is a necessity so choosing a bank simple - NO. I travel so I need the freedom of depositing and getting money in lots of places. I also need support if I have questions and issues. BBVA fills both sides. Big enough to offer great rates and perks yet when I go to my branch everyone is friendly and helpful( not just doing their job perfunctorily) I have banked at the same branch for 20+years so they do know me but they treat everyone with that same respect. I do have another account in a HUGE BANK with lots of branches where I travel. It’s really difficult to do simple tasks or get help. As long as BBVA keeps up their technology I’ll be with them.

Fairly good experience

2024-11-17

I will say that many other areas of my life have created nothing but obstacles and hassle. From the us postal service putting the mail of at least 12 different people in my mail box and mine often having to be picked up at the post office unable to be delivered - and I live alone in a studio apartment for the last two years - to the healthcare system giving me the run around and a turn through the ringer. I appreciate the bank for at least making making things easier instead of obscenely difficult and unreasonable like the other examples

Inconvenient

2024-11-17

I like their online banking. I love they return atm fees that other banks charge. I HATE they are closed on Saturdays! I have overdrawn many times because a check doesn’t come until Saturdays and I can’t deposit until Monday. I put the check in the atm only for that not to be deposited until the NEXT day (Tuesday)while charges are being withdrawn on Monday.
I DREAD going to their drive through. It takes forever to make a simple deposit. Only after waiting for five minutes for someone to just come up to the window.
They are very friendly once you get their attention though.
