Awful.

Somehow not just nbkcBank but the bank are worse than drinking the last inch of water in a dog bowl. Zero communication when theres an issue with your account, doesn't let you know when your card is disabled, theres no pattern learning for places you shop regularly, and I've had to go through 4 cards in the last 2 years.. On top of that, over all ive had $1400 frauded out of my account, and although the purchases were made in Jersey they were not reimbursed… I also have been flagged a fraud at this point almost weekly and i now get nervous whenever i need to pay for something. I feel like my money is just sitting outside on my front porch for anyone to take and i have no control over it, nbkcBank doesn't even give you all the information you need to access and you cant close your card on your own. Im finally switching to a different institution that will care about my access to my own money, i made this review after my card flagged and closed again…. And the rate our app popped up.

Initially promising but...

I’ve been holding a business checking account for a few months now. Here is my objective and factual take on this bank.

1) You have to pay about $20 for your first set of 50 checks. Other banks provide these for free, at least your first checkbook. Which in my case also took about a month to arrive, making it very difficult to issue payments to vendors and employees.

2) Your check deposits are automatically placed on a 5 business day hold. I don’t care what they write in response to this review, that is the truth. Every time I’ve asked ‘why’, I’ve been told by customer service that this is the case with new business accounts ‘until they feel comfortable with its history and age to reduce it to the typical 3 day hold’. Are you kidding me! How can your customers’ businesses thrive if you sequester THEIR money, with which they’re trying to grow their business to be able to entrust more money into your care?

Please, listen to your customers and adapt to their needs and the times we live in. I understand you need to hold a certain volume of deposits in order to make with interest the money you may not be making with fees. But these arbitrary rules that cut off the very resources that your business customers need to survive, undo much of the potential you all have to offer decent consumer services and products.

You can learn a thing or two in this regard from Capital One and SoFi, in the meantime you’ve lost yet another customer.

Terrible experience.

Opened an account with this bank just over a month ago. Today I got notified that my account was being closed because they don’t like their customers purchasing cryptocurrency. It’s things like this that push people like myself towards decentralized finance. Absolutely ridiculous for a financial institution to be so insecure. Good riddance.

Now you are blatantly just being dishonest. Someone left me a voicemail out of the blue to let me know that my account was being closed. That was the first mention of anything. No questions or discussions about any activity on the account. Just a simple, “Your account is being closed.” I returned their call. I reached out to them. I was specifically told that my account was being closed due to the fact that the only transactions on the account were related to cryptocurrency. I specifically asked if nbkc takes issue with their customers purchasing crypto. The response I received was a very firm, “Yes.” So you can try to paint yourself in a better light when responding to my review, but the fact of the matter is, your principles are your principles, and a liar is a liar. But if you have any more questions or concerns, you can feel free to reach out to me. I believe you have my number.

Not a reliable bank.

I had read the reviews about people and business account getting closed. I should’ve listened to the warning. Here is your warning, after a few months they randomly send you an email that they’re going to close the account and then they refuse to give you a reason. I’m a small business owner, now I have to look for a bank in short notice to continue accepting money from clients because I’ve lost complete trust in nbkc. No stability and no reliability. Would not recommend at all. UPDATE: just because you have the right to cancel an account doesn’t make it right or morally correct. As a small business owner, the only thing this bank has done is give me issues. STAY AWAY FROM NBKC

App needs a lot of work

I really love the product, features, and honestly the aesthetic of the brand and experience. Branding is on point, but I truly feel their app falls short of that and needs a ton of work. It’s not a smooth experience, even on flagship Apple pro devices, and just feels like a shortcut to their mobile site. I’d like bigger bolder simpler transaction logs, and I’m not sure if they use a vendor for transaction enrichment, but that could use some work too. Better card security options like lock / unlock, maybe a virtual card number but that may be asking too much? An account overview would be awesome I think a lot of features aren’t known to users and they’re all great selling points to the free account so maybe someplace to list those out.

It’s ok, but could be better

It’s not super intuitive on how to use, and it could really offer more options through nbkcBank , such as being able to request a new debit card/checks via nbkcBank , pausing the card if lost, and definitely easier access to e-statements is necessary. Most recently, I couldn’t get my e-statement to print from the website or nbkcBank . Not sure if that’s because I haven’t had much activity beyond a few deposits, but I needed one for documentation purposes, and couldn’t get one to print at all, which was very frustrating. It would ask me to put in a date and not allow anything to be entered or chosen. I even tried from two different browsers.

It’s ok

nbkcBank works for the most part. I can’t get the function that allows you to link other banks into there site to work for some of the banks I do business with. So it’s disappointing that they released a function that doesn’t completely work. And Pay People (p2p)seems to sometimes not allow eligible cards to pick up money. They aren’t always responsive to secure messages. The account itself they offer is good. And most the other functions on nbkcBank work well. It would be nice if you could verify an external account on nbkcBank so you would have to go to a PC to do that.

Could use some work since this app is how 90% use this bank

I like how FaceID always works for getting in. However, multiple times it’s made me verify my ID thru my phone number. Then, I select “register,” but I’ve selected “register” multiple times on this device. The check depositing feature works fine. It actually didn’t work on my google pixel, but that might be because those phones are hot—pun intended—garbage. I find that the UI could look a tad nicer, although it’s fully functional. It’s just that, when almost everyone who uses this bank is going to access it through his phone, you might as well make nbkcBank look pretty. And add dark mode. I guess old people think dark mode makes apps look sketchy/scary because almost no financial apps have it, but it’s better on your eyes and (modern) phone batteries.

NBKC APP REVIEW

We appreciate having an app for easy access to our account.

Here are some suggestions that would make nbkcBank more beneficial to online users:

1) Provide images of checks deposited. There is no documentation in the system that displays. Therefore, there is no online banking access to payor information or images of checks we write or other details required to validate check deposits or check withdrawals

2) The lack of access to Zelle compelled us to open another account with Bank of America. We would prefer to bank exclusively with NBKC.

3) Of late we have been depositing checks via the mobile app that were not deposited due to image related issues or “the account could not be found.” NBKC should notify customers when deposits fail due to image related issues. We must always follow up on deposits as there is no alert from NBKC that explains the details of deposit declines. The check with the account that “could not be located” was apparently never presented to the check writer’s bank. When we tried to resubmit, the system recognized the check and would not accept a redeposit.

These are just a few issues that have been a source of frustration in our attempts to work with NBKC.

Otherwise, nbkcBank is convenient and easy to use.

Verification

Overall I do enjoy nbkcBank. However when my phone was stolen while abroad it was impossible for me to access my account because I was using a different phone number and unable to get verification codes. Even though on the phone I was able to answer all of the security questions, ssc, etc no one was able to get me into my account. There needs to be some sort of kill switch, break in feature or other verification options like email or a secondary number that can be reached on the bank side to help customers in these cases. It nearly made me switch banks, despite liking everything else.

Bumpy at first

nbkcBank is a little bumpy at first. The layout is a little unorthodox from the apps I’m used to using but once you figure out where everything is it smooth out and becomes as good as the bank account itself. If you haven’t given nbkc a try you should give it one thought. Sign up is easy and you know in a matter of seconds if your approved or not. No minimum balance and no best of all no monthly fees. Great app and great account highly recommended.

NBKC Bank

I have multiple accounts with NBKC and all are online. I use their mobile app for my business and personal banking. I have never been more happy with a banking institution. They have a small town feel while being large enough to be used anywhere in the country. I have called them and have always have had everything resolved within mins to hours. I love NBKC and I will not bank elsewhere.

Exceptional Service

I've never had a bank that actually has a real person answering the phone. Especially people that aren't reading from a script and that actually utilize the brain in their head to solve problems on their own instead of searching their database and transferring you until you're finally hung up on or hang up in frustration. I literally had to research this nbkc several times just to make sure they were a legit bank because the service is that impressive! This is personal banking at it's best! Revolutionary, really.

Recently switch to NBKC from Chase. At first, it was not off to a great start. There was a issue with my debit card and it never got ordered when I opened my checking account, they were quick to send an sincere email letting me know of the issue, when k called in about that issue I spoke with Jade, and this goes without saying, SHE WAS AMAZING! Made me feel like this bank actually cares and not only that, we talked on the phone for about 40 minutes and it was just a great experience! I’m moving to an online only bank, and it’s people like Jade that make me feel even better about it! I finally got my debit card and even got a personal letter from NKBC Bank from Robyn G, telling me how sorry they were and they even sent me some counter checks to make sure I still had access to my money before my debit card arrived! The people on the other side of that phone truly cares about your relationship with them! This review alone is not enough to say how thankful I am for the people who answer the phones! They not only do their job, but they exceed exceptions by any measure!

Got this online bank for the interest rate!…

I didn’t realize I also be getting this incredible app and the amazing customer service. The budgeting tools in nbkcBank where you can link external bank accounts and have a full breakdown of you finances and debts is awesome. nbkcBank is also very smart at automatically categorizing your purchases. It’s seriously super duper awesome.

I also appreciate the very responsive and legit customer service team. They are actually cool lol. Can you believe I’m saying this about a bank? Gosh dang NBKC hits different tho. Thank you guys

Great app, great bank!

I have been very pleased with this bank and the recent developments I’ve seen take place on nbkcBank in the past 2 years I’ve been banking with them. The budgeting aspect of nbkcBank has been very crucial for me to target my spending and helped me allocate funds to necessities before I go ham and spend on my luxuries! ;) I’ve enjoyed the saving accounts feature to be able to easily save for important life events and has been overall a great experience for me! Thanks NBKC! I was initially hesitant to not have a bank within driving distance/brick and mortar but it has been nothing but a positive experience.

Over the top customer service

I don’t write many reviews and it takes a jaw dropping experience for me to write one. Recently I had that experience with my bank, NBKC Bank.

NBKC Bank is by far the most progressive medium sized bank with no fees whatsoever. Great on line technology, great rates, but most important to me, unbelievable customer service.

I recently bought a property in an all cash transaction and had forget to set up the wire for closing day, but one call to Toral, my favorite teller, and she made it happen that day so the closing was not postponed or worse giving the seller an out on the transaction. This lighting fast response never would have happened with any of the large banks for sure or frankly with any other bank due to size of the wire.

NBKC Bank knows their customers and can turn on a dime to help you out. The key here, Toral was willing to help out and was not bothered by my last minute request; she just made it happen with a smile and a great attitude to help me out due to my oversight.

And I’m sure it took much effort and maneuvering to make this happen when receiving a five alarm call from me at 11:30 am on the day of closing. If you want no fees, great technology, and superior service hands down, or I should say “jaw dropping customer service,” NBKC Bank is the #1 choice.

Amazing Bank & Impressed!

NBKC Bank has been wonderful from the beginning! I was looking for a second-chance bank because of my past mistakes and I am in Chex systems. I applied and was approved! I have been a customer since August and this has been the best banking experience I have ever experienced from a financial institution. Customer care is phenomenal, beyond kind, and very professional. The mobile app is well-organized, great security features, great benefits such as cash back, and great ATM network! This bank has made me trust banks again to hold my money and they have a customer for life. Best decision I made was becoming a customer. Thank you for the fantastic customer care and amazing products for customers!!!!!!!!!

Some Ideas to run by the development team!

Just a list of ideas I know new cards are coming soon I’m excited for that. I’d love to see a new cash-back type of account option obviously some overdraft option some sort of investment service would be great. Maybe some home page customization and some sort of reward program for keeping a good balance or history or for using your debit card I would also absolutely love to see some way of looking/checking my credit score and maintaining it like keeping tabs on it. Look at what makes cash app and chime so good take from them combine them and NBKC could pass j.p Morgan chase please run it by the team no better feedback then from customers do a poll for that matter put up a board on the homepage and let customers vote on future updates so we can all grow together.

So much more than I was expecting!

I really like the NBKC app. It helps me get paid easily. The people who help me on the phone are nice and friendly. nbkcBank was easy to start using. And I can take credit card payments with my phone, like a swiper.

In short, the NBKC app is great. It makes getting paid simple, and the people on the phone are friendly. It's easy to use, and I can accept credit cards on my phone. It's a win!
