Down Hill

I used to love West Jet but they have gone downhill fast. Last 2 flights were horrible from the time I checked in I upgraded to plus. Printed my boarding pass the day before...all good. I get to airport and wait in line to get my baggage ticket from kiosk. Go to self serve baggage scan. Wait in line. It doesn’t work. Wait for help. CSR takes me to a different line. Wait. They reprint my boarding pass. I get my bag checked. Look at my boarding pass and they changed my seat. I immediately try to get help. Everyone sends me to a different line-to wait. They finally tell me to go through and gate agent will help. By the time gate agent arrives they sold my seat. She said she would refund my upgrade cost. I showed her that I’ve had my boarding pass for almost 24 hours so why can’t you refund they last person that bought it. She said I just can’t. Really. I’m not the one that changed it. So. I’m getting ready to board now and not in plus seating. How does that work? An employee must have got my seat. No customer service anymore. This was totally unfair.

HORRIBLE

If I could give 0 stars, I would. Truly the WORST airline experience I have ever had. They’ve had us trapped in a foreign country for over 24 hours with essentially zero communication regarding when we can expect to go home, paying over $400 USD out of pocket on hotels and food with no chance of reimbursement because “it isn’t their fault.” Their in-airport reps have been rude and won’t let us speak with their booking agents. Their call center won’t even accept calls and the few times the call has gone through I’ve sat on hold for 2.5 hours only to be disconnected without ever speaking with an agent. Their call back feature doesn’t offer any availability until after over 24 hours. Our flight still has yet to be rebooked. I am truly baffled by the lack of service and professionalism.

The WORST Airline App out There

I fly every weekend and have flown on many airlines. None of which had apps as annoying to use as this one. It took me 10 minutes just to check in to my flight. Any time you click something, it takes a minimum of 30 seconds to get to that page. Absolutely horrible experience and I will never fly this app again just because of this.

Very frustrating

Firstly, WestJet is slooooow. Every step takes a minute or more to process.

Secondly, adding bags is a nightmare. When we attempted to pay, WestJet charged us but said the attempt was unsuccessful. This happened three times with three different cards. However, each attempt was approved by the credit card companies. I will have to get these charges reversed. Hopefully the airport agent will be able to do it.

Bag purchase failed costing me $$$

I attempted to purchase bags in WestJet before check-in for my flight. The transaction failed, telling me that I had to phone into customer support. I phoned customer support, but while I was on hold, the check-in window opened.

Customer support then told me I would need to pay $20 extra for my bags plus a convenience fee. When I told them I had a screenshot of the error on WestJet from before the check in window opened, they hung up on me.

First and last time

Just awful. This is the first time and now the last time flying this app not only can we not pay for baggage ahead of time. We can’t check in ahead of time even though we’re asked to check in ahead of time their app their website nothing works. This has been so horrible. We spent two over two hours on the phone on hold today only to get disconnected nothingabsolutely no customer service. The worst airline I have ever flown.

Won’t like to TSA Pre✅ for valid NEXUS membership.

For the last 6 months every time I check in WestJet will not show TSA Pre✅..I have a NEXUS card. I go the counter and sometimes they fix it and other times I’ve been told “it’s not my job…go back to NEXUS to get it fixed….
Prior to May 2024, never had the issue come up. Now, it’s every tine and the hassles at the counter to fix it are getting worse. Called customer service..it’s always someone else needed to fix this. No support whatsoever. Very sad how this airline has gone downhill so fast.

An attempt was made

Absolutely horrible. You know what most people love, it’s inputting all of their info in twice and WestJet delivers!! First, you log all of your important info into the this app website, then you do it all over again on their app. What a terrific deal. Because it’s not like the this app app and the this app airline are the same company. And it’s not like I spent time building my profile on the website that could easily be imported to WestJet , which this app promotes through email spam. I’m glad WestJet exists, since I’m a male and it’s the closest thing to an abortion that I can have.

Dreadful app. Had to change my password in order to log in.

WestJet is amongst the worst that I’ve used. I had previously created a this app account on the desktop website, but when I tried to sign in via WestJet it would not work. Logging in and out via the website worked (consistently), but WestJet did not. I tried with both my email and my rewards number, but neither worked. Ultimately I had to change my password before WestJet would let me log in.

If it matters, my password had special characters in it and I was using LastPass. Please fix!

Objective assessment

The other 1 star reviews I have read, even from years ago, are not surprising and still ongoing issues. this app employees hands are tied from helping customers in most cases as they were not able to help us with anything more than checking baggage and printing tickets. Those two basic functions were a struggle as well. The this app app is abysmal. Between WestJet and the limitations of the employees, it’s a wonder they remain in business. Fly this app if you don’t mind being stranded in foreign countries for days with no compensation, assistance, information or assurances while in transit.

Terrible airline and terrible service

So three hours before my flight this app decides to cancel it and reschedule me for a return flight home 40 hours later that lands at 1:00 in the morning. Customer service was unreachable on the phone and the people at the airport couldn’t care less. They acted like that was an acceptable new flight and no big deal to be delayed two whole business days. I have work people. Obviously no one at this company understands what work is. The Canadian government really needs to shut this operation down. Worst airline I’ve ever used and will never use again. Will be sure to let everyone I know to avoid at all costs.

App Design Failure. This needs a rework.

I don’t know where to start, but I will try. 1. WestJet does not remember six digit confirmation number. 2. About 70% through, WestJet will not let you proceed without a this app Rewards Number…. Guess what, you have to get that number on a different website. 3. WestJet is slow slow slow, 4. WestJet seems to have trouble with Known Traveller number vs the other security number. Come on guys. Anyway, it is a buggy app, and from the number of low ratings there appears to be little or no desire on the part of this app to address the issues. My guess is that this app operates on a shoestring budget. And this sort of nicety is below the decision making horizon.

The nothing integrates

Definitely the worst of all airline apps. When you’re logged into your this app rewards account and you go to checkin for a trip you have loaded your this app rewards id number doesn’t automatically get filled in. Also right now I have a group booking and even though I put in my last name with the booking ID it now won’t let me checkin because it keeps coming up with someone with a totally different last name. What was the point in entering my last name if you’re not even going to use it. Not to mention everytime you try to do anything it spends a full minute or two “processing”. Fire your inside development team and give it back to robots and pencils when it actually worked.

Terrible Airline, Terrible App

Booking a flight that’s operated by another airline is a nightmare. You can’t check-in and get your boarding pass through WestJet because none of the information has been properly received and loaded by this app. WestJet (and the website) just stalls forever. Only way you’ll check-in successfully is in person at the airport.

Once you do have your ticket and try to load in your itinerary in WestJet , good luck trying to get to any other menu. Can’t change your flight, can’t change your seats, etc. because those pages won’t load. Only pages that load are the purchase-required areas such as the menu (go figure).

Avoid WestJet and this airline if you can.

Garbage

Zero-budget app. As a weekly business flyer, I have 14 other airline’s apps on my phone. This is by far the worst of them all. Basic functionality is not there. Why even have an app if you’re going to put so little effort into making it usable? Ended up having to check in on the main website. Don’t even bother downloading this. Good grief.

Hard to get travel into calendar

Why would you not have an option to immediately export a trip as a series of calendar events (as soon as you book the travel)? You have to wait until you check in. So I can’t automatically add this until a day before travel—so I need to manually add events and then resolve duplicates once I add them from the this app app? This isn’t rocket science: WestJet handles this badly.

Behind Competitors

WestJet leaves a lot to be desired and is slower compared to Air Canada and to US & EU airlines, including Partners like Delta and Air France. WestJet also wouldn’t let me prepay in advance for bags on my last flight, and when I called they still claimed they couldn’t add them so I’d have to pay at the airport, where the fee was double.

Ok, but can’t get boarding passes

WestJet just refuse to let me have my boarding pass on my phone like every competitor does, there’s a place for it but it tells me I have to go to the counter despite having checked in.

I give it a few stars since at least it let me complete check in, in the past it would not even let me check in.

I tried to change seats post check in and it won’t let me, despite not having boarding passes.

Worked great

When I got WestJet I was really worried that I wouldn’t check in or that it wouldn’t work cause the reviews but surprisingly it worked just fine! I was able to check in, I was able to watch movies on WestJet too. It worked perfectly!

Advice to others: When trying to check in or trying to go back into the check in after checking in, tap the button multiple times to have the check in load up.

Onboard Entertainment

We downloaded WestJet just before boarding because we read it was needed for Onboard entertainment. Worked great. Since you can use your own earbuds, I might even prefer it to the normal seat back built in screens.
