Downdetector Reviews

I had complained about Downdetector overhaul last week - but now and very satisfied. Since we can now SORT by alphabet and severity of problem, I did the main list in alphabetical order, erased my jumbled Favorites - and entered only s very sorry list in Favorites, since I can nite easily find everything in the Main list. Tried flipping back and forth - resorting - perfect! As for the person who complained about ads - I a run a VPN and have no issues at all. Thanks again to a responsive developer, for a very valuable app.

Downdetector used to be good but it has major issues behind the scenes. Security and privacy for instance, couple years ago it was found that Downdetector needed access to the phones pasteboard. Then the data they received from us using Downdetector is collected and sold elsewhere.

seems like Downdetector keeps getting worse and worse. App does not work on jailbroken phones. Not sure why and there is no way this app app is affected or compromised while a phone is jailbroken.

It is best to use the website version if needed, but an alternative solution is needed with better practice.

Downdetector is the first place I go to find out if there are problems with an application, platform, or internet service provider. If other people are reporting the problem, no point in additional troubleshooting. Down Detector is a must-have app!

Downdetector is very helpful for when knowing when anything is down. I’m also not seeing any bugs or glitches, doesn’t take too long to load and I’ve been using it on a daily basis

There is no settings that allow you to set your region or location. The map feature is useless and once you zoom into your location it loses its function as a problem heat map. Favorites are not recognized either or kept in any logical order.
As a goof I attempted to set up an account and it felt like a job application, not info for an app. There is no reason for that much of my info.
All this apps info can be found elsewhere so I’m deleting Downdetector.

Best to keep using the website! Downdetector map always puts you in Europe and you can’t access all the companies that this app follows… For example, Downdetector can not find Discover or Capital One, but the website does show them. I am quite surprised and sad to see that a tech company can’t seem to produce an app that is fully functional.

Use it all the time. This ain’t no fried chicken shadow rocket. It’s the real deal. Websites and apps are always going down. And I know that cause of Downdetector. Thanks to the developers. I wish I could give you all a million hugs (I was gonna say dollars, but I don’t have that many dollars).

So much easier to have Downdetector instead of having to navigate to the browser version.

Good to know if the site/app you are using is the problem or if it’s your device. More people should be using this.

I use this frequently and really appreciate the work the developers put in. Very handy.

We can’t tell which service is down on mobile, but if I don’t have service, how am I gonna know that my service is down?

So I just updated my app and it no longer works because it thinks it’s “jailbroken.” It was working perfectly fine before the update, now it refuses to open. PLEASE FIX THIS!!!!!

Downdetector is great, it shows you if there is an outage of power in your area. But their “map” software is the worst thing I’ve ever seen

You can only zoom in as far as maybe a couple counties wide. Yeah you can see the dot where your house may be, but you can’t see if truly your house is inside that zone.

This is almost one of the main functions of Downdetector and it doesn’t work. It’s horrible. I deleted Downdetector immediately after having an issue with it. You can barely pinch zoom because it will just pop back to zoomed out when you release your finger.

Seriously, fix the small stuff.

I tried setting up a login with my Gmail account and I would follow the instructions for verification from Google but then Downdetector would not provide me with full functionality including the ability to leave comments.

Downdetector suddenly is hiding any services with outages deep in the list, requiring pages of scrolling to find them, and making Downdetector useless for gauging any widespread issues.

I’ll be uninstalling it. There’s no advantage to it now over the website, plus you surrender all privacy to it via permissions.

Would have been nice to communicate to current paying customers that individual accounts would be discontinued and would no longer get push notifications. I found out when apple notified me that my subscription was cancelled.

Downdetector is OK only when it works. Usually have to wait for Downdetector to load and then it rarely allows you to click on anything. Deleted and reinstalled a few times to fix but the issue always comes up when you use Downdetector . Deleted.

What a gem of an app. Would be nice to see how Downdetector is determining the health check, or if it's purely user report driven?

I tried searching for a somewhat large data center provider in the US, Digital Ocean (no AWS, but they have footprint!) and didn't find it listed.

Does this mean it's not monitored, or that no outages have been detected, or no outages reported?

Completely an ad. It just tries to get information from you for advertising revenue, and wants you to pay for almost everything. The little bit of information it does show you is almost worthless. Don’t bother with Downdetector. I’m uninstalling it.

I don’t understand why Downdetector has just a subset of all the services down detector follows. Facebook is having a major outage at the moment and the company isn’t even listed. Making Downdetector worthless. Deleting and sticking to the website.

I like the ability to let people share where they are and problems. However wish you would block that insight garbage. It's filled with it and has nothing to do with the situation. Thinking about deleting because of this. Very annoying.

Downdetector is awful. Always crashes and when I go to favorites it always takes so long for Downdetector to recognize that I’m signed in before loading my favorites.

Don’t waste your time

And there is no “x” button to cancel out of the ad, plus it stops background music from playing.

Can’t support landscape mode on the iPad. Who wants their screen permanently sideways?

Favorites is useless. They stay exclusively in the order you added them. You can’t sort them by name or severity.

You keep getting alerts for every site they know of, not just your favorites.

Paying money to get rid of the annoying ads is something I would normally be fine with, but I’m really annoyed that they took my money for this garbage. I want a refund.

Still has problems with discussions. For the amount of people posting problems maps don’t reflect it. Most times I cannot add to discussion.

While the utility of Downdetector is nice the poor monetization model and annoying full page pop ups lead me to believe that dropping by the webpage is better than Downdetector .

this app used to be a really useful app, but the latest “update” destroyed any utility it once had — sacrificed for the purpose of surveillance and data collection about YOU. I’m deleting it now.

You can’t zoom into graphs or turn phone horizontally to get better graph details.
