Too east to delete a token - then you’re screwed

2022-05-22

Was working with Dashlane then there was a problem with this app app. You see in one small second my finger hit the delete button on the token. Now I can’t log in to anything. Crazy thing is I’m trying to get support and it does not recognize my email. Stay away from Authenticator until it’s better designed or you’ll be spending hours trying to get into your account on another app. There’s no way it should be this easy to accidentally delete a token and then screw your life for good. Really a bad design

Locked Out Of Account

2022-06-23

I accidentally deleted an authentication number because I thought it wasn’t working. Since then, I got locked out of an account elsewhere because I failed to be able to authenticate myself with Authenticator. I’m not very tech-savvy so this is super stressful for me. I phoned the website who said they couldn’t get me into my account unless I contacted Authenticator directly and, guess what? I have no idea how to do that despite ages of Googling everything. Authenticator has cost me a lot of time and money trying to get back my authentication.

Useful until it’s not

2022-07-24

I had this this app app and it worked well until I lost my phone. There is no current way to retrieve security tokens on a lost device so if you lose the device you run the risk of being locked out of the accounts you’re using this for. I am a month in trying to retrieve a few of my accounts with no help from Authenticator or the services I was using this for since there’s no way to contact and no way to recover any lost information.

Good until your next phone

2022-08-25

At first, I loved Authenticator. I love how secure it is. Key word: secure, maybe too much so. I’d advise everyone to take heed and write down their codes in at least one place. After getting a new phone for my birthday, I’m locked out of all my accounts. There seems to be nowhere within Authenticator Store or online to get help with tech support.

Very good

2022-09-26

Simple and easy to use. I trust it doesn’t make any connections to the internet but haven’t verified this myself. Some nice improvements would be to lock Authenticator with a PIN, Touch ID or Face ID. And a line or something separating the various accounts. Something to make them visually appear more separate. Other than that, this is all most people need.

Clean and easy to use, just wish there was a watchOS app.

2022-10-27

Love Authenticator… Very easy to use. I got rid of the Google this app app because I found it incredibly slow and cumbersome. This one fits the bill perfectly. I just wish there was a companion app for the Apple Watch so I could use it from my wrist.

Great but needs 2 more features!

2022-11-28

Authenticator has a clean UI and is straightforward. What would make it a 5 star app is if it had a Notification Center widget and an Apple Watch app! It would make authentication codes more easily accessible on the lock screen as opposed to unlocking your iPhone and then opening up Authenticator .

Needs one more feature to be perfect!

2022-12-29

Authenticator is great. It’s free/libre software, doesn’t store the tokens to iCloud, enhances your security while also being convenient, and it’s quite stable. The only thing I’d want is an option to lock the database with Touch ID or a passcode to further layers of authentication. Thank you for an awesome piece of software.

Good App

2023-01-30

I use Authenticator instead of other authentication apps because it doesn't use a phone number, making it more secure. If you need to transfer it to another device, I don't see why you wouldn't just be able to back it up onto a computer and then load it on the new phone.

Superb

this app apps are pretty much vanilla. They do one job and the interface is simple. But details matter.

The google app presents the six-digit numbers grouped in threes. Authenticator groups in twos.
For whatever reason, my mind retains two groups much better than three groups. I asked google to add a setting which would let me choose two groups as the display. They ignored me. Authenticator works for me so much better. Thank you!!

Simple and Secure

2023-04-01

I’ve been using this for a few years now, and appreciate it for the simplicity. It does one job, does it well, and unlike apps from some of the major companies out there, it hasn’t tried to do more or integrate with this or that, it just works. :)

Simple, powerful, open source

2023-05-03

It's a fully featured generator and has a dark, dense interface that does one-tap copy and even has search. It does not do cloud backup, which is good. The developers seem active on their GitHub issues tracker, which is a great sign.

Very good open-source Authenticator that beats the rest.

2023-06-03

While people are saying it is too simple (and it frankly is), the simplicity is a selling point and makes Authenticator very lightweight and fast. Furthermore the local storage and not connected to the internet is fantastic.

I however, few it is missing a few features, most notably a password protection/ Face ID/ Touch ID that could make these vital passwords more protected. However, even without this feature, I recommend Authenticator.

Simple and Secure

2023-07-05

For those of us paranoid after one too many server security breaches, Authenticator is just what the doctor ordered. It's a local TOTP this app app, and that's it. No accounts required, no passwords or codes stored on a remote server, at risk of being stolen. It was exactly what I needed.

IOS Dont forget to make Encrypted Backup

2023-08-05

Authenticator is excellent, i like the search function at the very top which took me awhile to find - at first i scrolled down and scanned to find codes. With the search its perfect. Make sure you make an encrypted backup of your phone and save and secure backup codes , if you don’t, when you lose or replace phone you willbe locked out of accounts. All that said, this is all revealed when you look around Authenticator . It does NOT backup to the cloud, and all data stays on your device. You must wipe your device if you sell it for that reason, and please lock your phone with a passcode!

Simplest 2FA app on the App Store

2023-09-06

Easy. Stable. Fast. The three things you should only care about when it comes to using a 2FA app. More secure then other big tech this app apps because it does not backup to any cloud service. Just use a cable and do an encrypted backup on a Mac or PC. Done.

So much better than google auth

2023-10-08

Just make sure your device backups are encrypted, and your codes should transfer when switching. Keep in mind with google auth, if you don’t turn off 2 factor for every account you have, you will likely be locked out of your accounts after changing devices.

Locked Out

2023-11-08

I’ve made the worst mistake, which has been locking myself out of my Tesla app. I wasn’t able to use my Tesla Backup Codes to get the this app App to work, any chance to receive help with this? I’m completely confused as what to do now, thank you for any help!

Help

2023-12-10

I was using Authenticator for a particular website
Suddenly my phone got damage and I can’t access my this app apps in old phone
I downloaded it in my new phone but here is no data
How can I access. Or can I remove 2step verification from my account?

Super easy!!! F Google's version

2024-01-10

I was originally using Google this app. Needless to say I wasted two days trying to authenticate a very important account. I thought that it was my account, but it was actually Google this app that was garbage. I downloaded Authenticator and it worked instantly without any issues at all! Five stars all the way!

Good as long as you don’t switch phones

2024-11-17

I liked Authenticator until I got a new phone. I then learned that they don’t back up the accounts. It’s not saved to cloud. It’s only saved on the phone it’s being used on. I don’t have that phone. Now I can’t log into multiple accounts because they require codes from the authentication app on the phone that I no longer have. Not happy.

Cool, minimal interface

2024-11-17

This is my first application for 2FA, the dark interface is appealing and the open source is what made me download this amazing application. Also, as this is a security application, it would be great to have a fingerprint or password protection built-in. Thank you for this awesome application.

Best 2FA app UI

2024-11-17

I highly prefer this apps ease of use and UI to Google this app and Authy. I wish it wasn't so easy to delete a token, and also that there was a possibility to save encrypted tokens to the cloud - but the lack of that is also Authenticator's big selling point.

It helps keep your online accounts secure by generating unique one-time passwords, which you use in combination with your other passwords to log into supporting websites.

The simple combination of the password in your head and the rotating passwords generated by the app make it much harder for anyone but you to access your accounts.

• Off the Grid: The app never connects to the internet, and your secret keys never leave your device.
