Let’s say I have $200. I spend $50. My app will show my balance as $150. A few hours later I buy something that’s $30, and suddenly my app is telling me I have $250- a balance from a day prior. Northwest is constantly showing incorrect balances. I feel like the only way to know updated and correct balances is if I wait a few days without using my card at all, call the bank directly, or go to an ATM. I’ve also seen an “updated” balance with pending charges (meaning that the current balance is supposed to include the pending charge) however, once it’s cleared my balance drops again. In other words, the updated balance wasn’t accurate in the first place. Another issue is that sometimes I see the pending charges, other times they suddenly disappear and again show me a balance I know is inaccurate. Northwest is always “under maintenance”, but I don’t understand what’s being fixed because these problems have been happening from day 1.
Honestly not impressed

There have been a couple occasions that I’d tried to transfer money from my savings to my checking in the evening and it will not process till the next day which I find to bs since it’s my money and it should be easily transferable to my debit card. The other day I also went into both my app and the online website and it appeared as thought my checking account had vanished. I obviously had not closed my account and had money in it but it was no where to be found and I found that particularly frustrating. It did eventually show up again but I find that unacceptable if I’m questioning whether your bank is capable of handling my money. I hope these issues can be resolved and that I won’t have to bank with someone else because I do enjoy the people that work at my bank but am fed up with the inconveniences. I don’t often write reviews so know that I’m genuinely dissatisfied.
Disappointed

I continue to be disappointed with Northwest and bank. I concur with the review titled "Inconsistent." I never have a clue as to how much money I actually have because one day it shows all current transactions and the next they disappear. Before I know it I'm down to $10 or an overseas account because the day before I had $200 according to them. Yes, I can keep track by hand the old fashioned way but isn't the point of mobile banking to modernize the way we manage money. I've already spoken to them about the issue. Apparently they are "working on it" but it's been several months now. It's a hassle to switch banks but I'm starting to think that'd be the best option. No this app I do not need your # to contact customer service. I need you to read the reviews, take this issue seriously and update your interface stat.
Absolutely terrible app

Northwest is terrible. Consistently it will not let me log in. I get a “There is a problem connecting to the server” message for days. I try uninstalling and reinstalling Northwest (which I shouldn’t need to do in the first place) then end up having to call to get it fixed. Then overnight and weekends you might as well guess at your balance because things appear and disappear seemingly at random. I am told on the phone that overnight and on weekends things are “processing” and balances may not be correct. Well my old bank’s app that NW bought out never had any problems telling me my balance no matter what time of day or day of the week it was. This is 100% unacceptable in the year 2018. I am literally ready to switch banks because of this terrible app. We deserve better.
I hate giving any company a one star rating, but I think they have officially earned it at this point. I can’t believe a bank could allow their App to continue to stay this unusable, and this buggy for so long. I had originally given a five star rating, solely because I really like this bank, but you guys need to stop ignoring how poor your App is, and fix it. As a side note for anyone who’s app becomes completely unusable, you must uninstall it, then reinstall it, then go through all of the verifications again. Then Northwest will work for a little while longer before it becomes usable again. This may save you a call to the 1-800 # that I saw they were suggesting that people called for help.
What a mess

I’ve been a customer since June of 2019. At first I really liked it. Northwest never was that great, but it was accurate and did it’s job. Just not user friendly or very appealing to the eye. Since then, things have gone down hill! Once Affinity took over, that’s when things really fell apart. Balance is NEVER accurate. Transactions disappear all the time. I have to keep track of every little thing going in and out because it does not anymore. Even when I call into the branch, they say the balance is accurate, although, it is not! Taking days and sometimes over a week for transactions to finally show.... this is so far beyond bad at this point. Needs a whole new app to fix this.
Traditional banks are old. Move into the 21st century

I think this bank has dropped off the face of the earth with updates. Haven’t seen one in months. My parents setup a checking and savings account for me years ago. I like the bank. They’re friendly, customer service is nice, but they aren’t very appealing to the modern generation. I’d love to continue to do business with them but I will take my business to a more modern bank if that what works best for me in the end. They’re lacking a lot of modern features that newer and online banks offer. I would like to see the following features added:
- seamless in app budgeting - transaction categorization within budgeting - instead of ordering checks for a check book, allow me to fill out a form and you send the check for me (check mailing) - high yield savings account - no account fees (NO FEES AT ALL) - no overdraft fees - no account minimums - real-time transaction notifications - daily balance report - access in app to freeze my account and/or debit card - send money to friends more easily - automated savings going into savings account from paychecks (percentage) - goals accounts, with seamless setup and automation - deposit cash at ATMs - access to a larger ATM network - out of network ATM reimbursements - no foreign transaction fees
It does the job I guess

Northwest is accessible. Yet once you try and make payments on loans, you have to go through a process that is confusing. First you submit the payment, but you have you have to wait a day or two for it to process, then you have to approve of the payment, and finally the bill gets paid. And if you don’t do those steps accordingly your bill won’t be paid. Then you have to call customer service to see what is going on. Only to find out you have to approve the payment by hitting a small button in a completely different tab after the few day period is over. Quite different then the instant, simple, updated apps that we are use to now n days.
They’re doing their best...

iPhone 7: The U.I looks nice, transitions for opening the menu could be smoother, I deposited a check and it went smoothly, when I try to open a new account though, it tells me to correct the highlighted fields which are parts of my name, which I have more than one middle and last names (drivers license is “fun” to get too lol) however the box is grayed out and unable to edit at all. I don’t mind going down to the bank as it’s close to me but could be a lot easier. Also the website it takes you to, to add accounts could have a cleaner updated U.I. But it is easy to work with now. Also THANK YOU FOR ADDING TOUCH ID THANK YOU. Also sounds like you need a new programmer. This is a serious business and to make Northwest stable so the other reviewers can enjoy it perfectly all the time 99% of the time at least. Sounds like you’ve got an softmore intern
I’ve had to call 4 times to get it set up. It doesn’t tell you exactly what you’re doing wrong. So you have to call. In one place I had to select an empty circle to move onto the next phase. There was no instructions that I had to do that. I’m getting used to Northwest but it is nowhere near as easy as a Bank of America app.
2 nd complaint: the bill pay key us tied in with the pop money key. SEPARATE THE TWO KEYS. I want just a bill pay click/ key. Don’t mix bill pay and pop money in the same icon.
3. Separate BILL PAY and POP MONEY. TOO confusing. Also add PAY NOW on each account instead of at the bottom of the page for all. Too easy to forget to go to bottom of page.
Delayed Transactions

Previously I would have given Northwest 5/5 stars. However, now that Affinity is partnered with this app my transactions sometimes take days to pop up. As someone who forgets things easily, this isn’t ideal. I don’t keep paper copies of my transactions so I rely heavily on Northwest to do it for me. It’s very inconvenient and sometimes anxiety provoking when you think you have a certain amount in your account and then check to see it’s way off because your transaction history didn’t update. I’m not sure if Northwest is to blame or what the issue is, but I’ve noticed this since they partnered with Affinity.
Pretty good app for what I need

I do not do a great variety of things with Northwest aside from paying bills, checking transactions, etc. and it seems to work fine with that. The only thing I can think of that was disappointing was the fact that I had tried to send a friend some money to his bank account through the POPmoney and thought it would work as easily as most of the other transactions where I would send money to pay off another credit card, etc., but it wasn’t so easy. On my friend’s side he had to sign up for POP money service, and do a few things to make it work properly and I felt bad that I put him through that and probably should have just “sent him a check”. Other than that Northwest has been fine.

Hey, I know what you’re thinking, I’m looking for the most critical reviews to see what I’m really getting myself into, but you shouldn’t, I’m gonna try to paint an accurate picture for you that’s not too cheesy that it sounds fake. I’m new to banking, just got my first job and didn’t know what to do with the money, my parents used this back so I thought I would too, having Northwest is great for me because it does everything I need it to, I can see how much I have and see all my previous transactions, which is all I need it for, if you’re like me and are pretty simple about what you need then Northwest is great, I haven’t dived into the nitty gritty with it and if you need something a little complex well I can’t tell yo I what it’s like
Convenient app

Couldn’t really expect much more from a banking app, at least IMO. I pretty much only use Northwest to check my balance and to transfer funds to and from checking and savings in between pays (it does offer more features, I just don’t utilize them). It has helped me to avoid fees multiple times by being able to transfer from savings to checking when I spend too much or if bills come through earlier than expected. Again, for me and what I use it for, I couldn’t expect anything more. 5 stars
Flawless online services on my iPhone. I like the double security level when on my pc. If I have to use the phone for customer services, the rep takes care of my needs perfectly. When I do go to the bank, the tellers are competent and cordial. When I need, the service agents take care in resolving any of my needs in an informative way. This is the best bank I've ever dealt with - all around. I highly recommend this app Bank for all your banking services. Tom B.
