Balance My Checkbook Reviews

I’ve had BalanceMyCheckbook for a little less than a month now. I upgraded the get all the features except sync, which I don’t need. I like it a lot & has helped me quickly keep track of my checking account balance with just a few clicks. I’m finding though that the scheduling feature leaves a little something to be desired. I have a lot of recurring payments. I find it easier that way to pay certain bills/credit cards. While I’m able to schedule them in here for recurring transactions, there is no flexibility to it. I modified one of my payments to be on a different date with my cc company, but could not find a way to modify the recurring transaction in BalanceMyCheckbook. I wish it worked more like a recurring appointment in my Outlook calendar. Also, when I look at the upcoming scheduled transactions, it’s in weird order & I cannot change it. Why are next month’s recurring scheduled transactions listed before the rest of this month’s scheduled recurring transactions? I wish this part could be improved. Otherwise, I’m happy with it. I had stopped balancing my checkbook for nearly 3 years because I just didn’t have the time. This has made it sooo much easier. Now, if they could fix the issues with the scheduled transactions, it would be perfect!

Live without it , as soon as I make a purchase I deduct it from my check balance using BalanceMyCheckbook , I don’t forget to balance my checkbook anymore and I’m assured the correct balance at all times , as soon as I get paid I add it to my balance,, as well as pay bills , I just deduct as I’m paying , I know how much I can spend and how much I always have , since some bills don’t come out of my checking instantaneously,, I’m assured how much I will have when they do , BalanceMyCheckbook makes my life a lot easier ,, originally I didn’t have to pay for BalanceMyCheckbook ,, just now after a few years I’ve seen the comments in the upgrade versions that they change to a subscription-based app for new users and I didn’t have to worry because I was grandfathered in , the owners say it takes some work to keep
Up with BalanceMyCheckbook , get the bugs out , assures it works properly etc, I’m so happy with BalanceMyCheckbook that even though I didn’t have to ,, I subscribed to the $ 1.99 version which is $25 dollars a year ,, it’s well worth it ,, and I hope BalanceMyCheckbook continues to provide me this service ,,, thank you to the owners

I’ve used BalanceMyCheckbook for several years. I can’t do without it. I recently got a new iPhone and had “operator error”. Tech support was marvelous and got me fixed with clear instructions. BalanceMyCheckbook is actually trouble-free. I completely rely on it as I keep no paper ledger. My only suggestion is that it would be nice to view in landscape mode on my iPad Pro. I am able to view only in portrait mode unless there’s something I can do that I don’t know about. At any rate BalanceMyCheckbook is indispensable. Thank you for offering it at such an affordable price without charging a monthly subscription. That is much appreciated.

Update…much later than original review: Thanks for landscape mode on the iPad! I am still relying on this wonderful app and use it several times daily.

I really love BalanceMyCheckbook, I’ve been using it for years! However, in the last two weeks I have noticed I can only search for transactions by name when I used to be able to search by anything having to do with the transaction- amount, name, notes... I loved this feature because (as long as I added notes) I could always look back any see what I spent on a particular item, even if I couldn’t remember where I got it. Or even check the date I purchased it just by searching for key words I added in the notes.

Another thing I noticed is when I add a transaction from a repeat merchant, BalanceMyCheckbook auto populates the notes section with whatever I put there the last time. While that’s not a deal breaker for me, I do find it annoying.

The thing that could potentially be a deal breaker is the search function being limited to just the transaction name. That has substantially limited the convenience I have so appreciated from BalanceMyCheckbook for a number of years.

Update: I've used BalanceMyCheckbook for years, paid version but not the sync subscription version. The main complaint I have is when transferring money between accounts, it takes 2 separate entries. For example, if I transfer $25 from Checking to Savings, I first have to go to Checking and deduct $25. Then I have to go to Savings and add $25. This operation should be combined into one. I've contacted developer several times and was told it would happen at some point but I first brought it up years ago and still nothing. I'm dropping one star for that. I think it's still a great app and I continue to use it until I find something better. It would also be nice to sync from phone to iPad but not worth the current subscription price.

This is one of the best checkbook apps out there. Simple to use with multiple accounts and the developer always responds to feature requests. It's all I use.

I love BalanceMyCheckbook. It’s quick and easy to enter transactions on the spot. I also love that you can search for key words or amounts- and that includes anything you put in the “notes” section. I should say, I got the paid version a while ago and I’m not sure of the difference between the free and paid versions anymore, but I LOVE the paid version. BalanceMyCheckbook also makes it easier for me to budget for different things. I can input a transaction and not mark it as “cleared”, and BalanceMyCheckbook tells me how much I have that is ACTUALLY available (which would match my account balance) as well as the amount left once everything I’ve entered has cleared.

One suggestion I do have- I wish there was a way to add my husband so we could both see and enter transactions on the same account ledgers. Other than that, it’s great!

I rarely write reviews, but I felt the need with this one. I have been using BalanceMyCheckbook for more years than I can remember. It has never failed me. This is a simple account ledger app. No awkward linking to bank accounts that really never keep up. Simple. Manual. All I needed or wanted. I paid for the premium app so I could have all the accounts that I wanted. Transferring my data from old phones to new are a breeze every time. Export from one phone and import the file to the new via email and Bob’s your uncle. I wish my bird logging app would take the hint and do the same. But that is another story. BalanceMyCheckbook is top notch. Forget the bells and whistles and just keep track of your money plain and simple. Love BalanceMyCheckbook!

I have been using BalanceMyCheckbook for quite some time now & for the most part it works great. However, the calculations after awhile end up not correct. I compare my Balance with the bank & keep track of every little bit that comes in & out via both Balance check & my bank (I have had someone get a hold of my banking information before) so I am very diligent about it. However, the balance I have on Balance Check is higher than what I have in the bank & yes I went through every single transaction between the two & verified that I did not miss anything & all my transactions match with the bank transactions & yet my Balance Check is higher by at least $20 or more & no my bank’s calculations are not incorrect. I have also clicked on recalculate & it it just comes back that all calculations are correct.

I’ve had BalanceMyCheckbook for a couple years and loved it. I finally gave up and stopped using it about a year after I had my iPhone X because it didn’t support the non-home button screen sizes. However, a couple months ago I noticed they were consistently updating BalanceMyCheckbook again so I decided to give it a try. Since I was gone I found another app that I didn’t care for as much as this but it had one really cool feature that I wish this one did. When typing in amounts, it adds the decimal point automatically, that is very cool. I’ve emailed the devs a couple of times and they say that’s an upcoming feature. Either way, this is an invaluable app that sits comfortably in my dock. Thanks to all involved for giving us constant updates that brings great improvements.

I have been using BalanceMyCheckbook for a couple years and it has saved me money not getting charged for NSF fees. I also had my son download BalanceMyCheckbook into his iPhone and it has also saved him from NSF fees by not forgetting debit charges because he didn’t have time to write charges into a checking account register. I plan on getting the advanced features so my wife and I can both update our joint account without having to ask her for receipts all the time. I recommend using BalanceMyCheckbook to anyone having problems with overdraft fees. Just using the free version will be well worth it. I will update the review after using the paid advanced features and let you know how they work.

My family has been using BalanceMyCheckbook for years. It is the best we have found to allow my spouse and I to each enter transactions on our personal apps and immediately have them seen by both of us. It makes sharing an account simple and easy. The times entries, ability to use multiple accounts, and ease of reconciling is exactly what we wanted in an app.

I encourage anyone with an issue to reach out to the developer. The one time our app didn’t sync properly, we reached out and had a response and a fix within a day. This is a responsive developer who stands by their product.

I was so happy to find a simple, easy to use app that would help me balance my checkbook, manage any other accounts I entered, and whatever debit/credit type I wanted. I've even entered all my different gift cards in the accounts section to track the balance remaining without having to keep calling the balance inquiry 800 number! It's certainly worth purchasing the upgrades!

This is more than balancing a checkbook. I can have it automatically deduct recurring payments in my "register" at specific dates. This helps track amounts deducted through my bills' automatic payments. Feedback and bug reports/problems are welcomed and always addressed quickly. So simple!

we’ve had BalanceMyCheckbook more than five years. All of our accounts - debit, savings, and credit - are here. it allows both hubby and wife to have instant and sync’ed info about our accounts.

It’s not super fancy. It still requires one of us to “clear” transactions at the bank, it doesn’t pull in data, so you have to do the work/you’re in control. It’s a family business, I take it, that designed and supports this thing, and I will happy keep the monthly subscription as long as BalanceMyCheckbook is supported - it’s not too fancy, it isn’t invasive, and it exceeds our needs.

Only app that I have ever found that is just the right amount of simple! Works like a basic check register to quickly enter all your debit card purchases so you do not over draw your account and at the same time you can enter all your reoccurring charges (even if the amount changes a little each month-put a rounded amount and adj when you know the exact amt). And balancing your statement couldn’t be easier. The only thing I could see some people might like is the ability to print a balanced statement report but I’m perfectly happy and have found nothing else out there that is this easy to use.

I am disappointed to see others using the rating feature in iTunes to report issues, instead of the support feature in BalanceMyCheckbook .

I’ve been using BalanceMyCheckbook for several years, probably since its inception. Every issue I have ever reported has been responded to timely and resolved by the developer. I have even made feature suggestions that were added later in app updates.

Please don’t let the negative reviews deter you from trying BalanceMyCheckbook. It’s AMAZING 🤩 and so is the developer. He definitely cares about his users, unlike other apps I have tried.

I have been using BalanceMyCheckbook since 2013. It is simple and user friendly. It does just want I want- to keep track of my available funds and reconcile with the bank as well. We recently signed up for the sync option so my husband can use it as well- I wish I had done this sooner! When he spends, he types it in as he spends it and it syncs automatically on my phone and vice versa. Helps us both make better decisions financially and keep up to date with our funds and savings goals. Wouldn’t change anything. $5 per month for the sync option is well worth it.

I have had horrible syncing issues ever since February or March and continue to have issues where me or my wife input a charge and it won’t show up to sometimes even up to 48 hrs later. I have tried restarting both our devices more than once, tried both multiple WiFi and my cellular networks for my cell and both our home WiFi and my wife’s cellular network(we are with two different cellular providers). It has gotten to the point of we are about to start looking for a different check register app to use to try and get a better sync quality and crossover between the phones. Also if you need help they are super slow to respond and you have to have the apple native mail app as your primary email app to send them an email. That’s a joke.

I really really like this register.. for once, I have not been accumulating NSF fees because I can always look to see what is in my balance instead of "assuming" what the balance off of my head. However, I learned in the hard way to either pay the 4.99 monthly fee for syncing or remember to back up the register every couple of weeks. I lost my phone and everything was wiped gone from the check balance register and I didn't back the register to email, print ever. My heart fell when this happened. I signed up the $4.99 month program so this doesn't happen again.

It is so easy to use. I use it every single month to keep track of not only my checkbook, but also my cash flow, my food stamps and my general budget. The fact that you’re allowed to have multiple accounts open at the same time is wonderful. The only thing I don’t like is that I wish that they would have debits before credits listed on the same day. Because it looks like you have bounced checks or that your cash flows off. Get the in app purchases; they are worth it. I very, very, highly recommend BalanceMyCheckbook.

We have used BalanceMyCheckbook in my house for years and absolutely love it. However, I just got a new phone and am trying to sync and just cannot get it to. There is nowhere to reset my password and it keeps telling me it’s wrong. I had to create a new account and used the same email address to create the new one. For some reason, it let me and I am now logged into one of my accounts while my wife is logged into the other. I would love help, but there is no phone number to call or way to figure this out. There should be some sort of customer service to contact!

I am disabled and have sever arthritis in my hands. I have been using BalanceMyCheckbook for several years and loved it. Hand writing a check book register is difficult. I paid for the upgraded bundle to get all the features. I faithfully back up my data for BalanceMyCheckbook monthly to my e-mail. When I recently had to restore my data to BalanceMyCheckbook from my recent back up data, the transaction names where missing. This means I have to retype each transaction name again, where in the past just entering the first letter of the transaction name “S” and “Safeway” would populate. When you have many different transaction names you have entered in the past, having the name populate is a handy feature. I tried to restore the data from an older back up and same result happened. I’m thankful the actual transaction data is there, but all the years of transaction names won’t populate anymore. I also tried the same back up on a different device resulting in the same outcome. I would have given it 5 stars if not for this issue. Hopefully support for BalanceMyCheckbook can provide a fix solution. But by other reviews, it appears developer does not respond all the time. I have used BalanceMyCheckbook for at least 4-5 years. I was very irresponsible and was constantly over drafting my bank account, giving far more of my money to my bank, that truly already had far money money than I would ever have. I decided to track every time I bought something or got money. No matter what it was money in or money out I recorded it. BalanceMyCheckbook has saved me! I am much more conscience of my money spending and what I really have. I have not overdrawn my checking account in at least 4 years. While it is sad that I did not do this until my 40’s, I have changed how I handle money and also track my spending. BalanceMyCheckbook has truly helped me and my money management skills.
