Good update but with a bug and feature request

The UI of the new version is much better than before, and I highly appreciated that they’ve added the map feature. However, it seems to me that there’s a bug in EurailInterrailRailPlanner that when I want to save the journey to my trips, it would say it added on the top banner but it was never being saved into my saved journeys. Other than that, it works like a charm.

I would also like to see that EurailInterrailRailPlanner would also show which platforms the trains will be located at, and also some kind of a feature that would show us alternatives routes if I miss a train between a connection. And of course, it will never hurt if we could see the map of a station for tight connections.

And right now, I’m just brainstorming, but… apart from the local train schedule database, it would be awesome if we could see the schedule of a train station, or a live update of an upcoming train that I’m gonna need to catch? And it would be really nice if we can see which trains has WiFi/power etc.

Unreliable

I’ve experienced so many serious shortcomings with EurailInterrailRailPlanner, that I consider it an unreliable source. Routing that puts me on a bus instead of keeping me on the through train to the destination, a complete ignorance of Italian train scheduling for connections, missteps when routing to avoid seat reservations, total failure to place a selected seat reservation in the cart for purchase, telling me there are no trains to a destination when the German S7 lines accept a EurailPass, etc.

At best, use it in conjunction with Google Maps, get reliable schedules from the train companies directly, search on your own leg by leg to plan connections and transfers, show EurailInterrailRailPlanner results to station ticket agents to get a good laugh, learn precise names for destinations for typing them in because EurailInterrailRailPlanner is not smart, buy your seat reservations on high speed trains through a station agent well ahead of time. I don’t hate EurailInterrailRailPlanner, I’ve channeled my disgust into constructive workarounds, but Eurail should be ashamed of itself for putting out such a shoddy product. It isn’t free if it leads you into making mistakes and missing opportunities.

The new app doesn’t show all train options for global pass!!

NEEDS BUG FIX NOW!! This new version doesn’t have the correct train info!! The only way we know is because we’ve already bought seat reservations for a train from Lyon to Paris and when I went to double check connections my app had updated and we cannot get it to show the correct train time and route! Thank goodness my husband’s phone didn’t automatically update EurailInterrailRailPlanner and we still have it until this bug is fixed. The seat booking part of EurailInterrailRailPlanner still has the correct train route and time. So I cannot trust EurailInterrailRailPlanner until the info on my new version matches my husband’s old version. PLEASE FIX THIS!!!! If you need the specific route it’s Lyon Part Dieu to Paris Gare de Lyon at 9:04 in the morning. This is super frustrating and scary as we’ve been using EurailInterrailRailPlanner to plan travel for 5 weeks in Europe.

just awful

no landscape orientation, only portrait. Tears for large tablet users.

The map is just a map without pins for the eurail stations. Not sure how you overlook putting the valid eurail pass stops on the map for an eurail pass planning app, but supposedly the map is a recent feature.. which is even harder to believe. There was a version of EurailInterrailRailPlanner without a map at all?? Shows where the developer's heads are.

But the map thing wouldn't be much of a problem if you could plan a trip. Say London to Brussels, which connect by rail on the eurail website map and each have a station and EurailInterrailRailPlanner will declare "no connections between those points". Amsterdam to london? Nope. London to Edinburgh? Yes! Hey, 1 out of 3 ain't bad, right? Towel thrown. It'd be faster to plan my trip on an Atari 2600.

The Buggiest App I Have Ever Used

This is without a doubt the buggiest app I have ever used! The QR codes for tickets only show up intermittently, and one has to kill and restart EurailInterrailRailPlanner over and over and over to get them to show. I hope Eurail gets its house in order with an update soon!

In spite of the response from the developer you see here about contacting support, their support is essentially useless. I have exported and sent more than 30 error logs from EurailInterrailRailPlanner to their developer support email address and have not received a single helpful response. EurailInterrailRailPlanner is an embarrassing piece of software…

DO NOT GET IF POSSIBLE

one star is too high- I used EurailInterrailRailPlanner to travel across Europe and it was truly THE worst experience. It never loaded, and whenever I opened it EurailInterrailRailPlanner had logged me out and deleted all my travel days as well as my trips- due to this I lost at least 4 travel days that I could not get back, and got many fines when I I had legitimately paid for my pass as well as my seat ticket. I know this is the only way to show it but without wifi on the trains and good reception traveling through foreign countries the rail employees had no problem fining us up to 99 euros.

Completely useless – Use DB or ÖBB app instead

You can't really DO anything with Rail Europe's mobile application. "Rail Planner" can query a small subset of train schedules, but Deutsche Bahn's app can query all schedules for all of Europe. "Rail Planner" can't make reservations (it sends you to the Rail Europe Web site to do that, and their process is completely manual, involves mailing paper records, and requires a $7.95 fee in addition to any reservation costs), whereas the DB app can make reservations for German domestic trains and many international trains that serve Germany, and the Austrian Railways (ÖBB) app can reserve just about anything. Don't waste your time downloading "Rail Planner".

Useless

This is the worst, most dysfunctional app I have ever used.
It is not intuitive, links often loop right back to the same page, and other than buying the passes, was completely useless in making reservations for trains that require them.
I’ve been able to make one reservation in the two months I’ve been using the passes. All the other times I had to go to the train ticket booth.
The only thing it is good for is train schedules. However I have found many apps that do the same.
This is an awful app. With there was an alternative.

Could be better..

Honestly the new version looks much better, and I love the map feature. However, every update since the new look my map gets deleted. It’s really disappointing because I had 5 months of trains on that app that is now gone.

Complete trash

Don’t waste your time on this for Spain. You can reserve tickets until you are at the station in person, so if it’s sold out, you are out of luck. EurailInterrailRailPlanner is complete trash, doesn’t let you link you pass to tickets and there is no adequate support for problems. I am in Spain currently and traveling, but they won’t get back to me for 2 days. What a waste of time and money. Just buy tickets from Renfe directly if you want to save your sanity.

This app is super glitchy

EurailInterrailRailPlanner will kick you out of your pass and will not allow you to log bag in. The epasses are not reliable enough for travel expectations and you will get grilled on a train when their app doesn’t work even if you have a pass. Anyone traveling on Eurail should print out all passes (including but not just tickets) until they can figure out how to program a functional app. -signed someone who works in tech

Just… wow. Painful experience.

Worst user experience I’ve had in a travel app (and Eurail is a waste of time and money). Can not believe this is what the EU is relying on for domestic and foreign travelers. Put some effort into this sh$$. It’s mind boggling. Have any of the employees or developers actually gone through the user journey of booking a ticket? I had a lot of high expectations for this service but it’s a f$$$$$$ joke. Huge missed opportunity for so many good things. Way to go morons.

Really helped

The offline capability was crucial for us on our last trip in Europe. App was easy for a couple of retired novices to use.

👎👎👎👎👎

Really stupid application. The only thing it’s good for is looking at train times. You can’t even book a reservation on EurailInterrailRailPlanner , you have to go through the website. And then there’s even more problems on the website. It always crashes or has technical problems when trying to book a reservation. And it continuously logs you out. I recommend booking your train tickets at the stations.

Get a paper pass!!

I’ve never reviewed an app before, but it feels irresponsible not to say something about this one—it is astoundingly awful. There were issues every single time I wanted to use it (6 separate days). It’s a great concept but as it stands it simply doesn’t work. If at all possible, I highly encourage you to get the paper version of the pass for far fewer headaches.

A nightmare for booking reservations

I have been bounced so many times between EurailInterrailRailPlanner and website, indicating I had no pass which was purchased through Rail Europe & requires EurailInterrailRailPlanner to book reservations.
What a mess - I have been in travel business for 25+ years, booking rail for clients and this is absolutely the most ridiculous way to get a seat reserved.

By

Terrible train options and extra charges!

EurailInterrailRailPlanner does not show you all the trains available to you, and every train required an additional fee of about 10 euro to nook a seat! This was not communicated when buying the pass, so you might just be better off buying individual train tickets.

By

Good for long route, not local directions

EurailInterrailRailPlanner gave us very bad directions for local routing to get to our longer train. It sent us 45 minutes out of the way, leading to a 25€ taxi ride in order to avoid missing our train. I recommend verifying any route with another map application before embarking out.

Unbelievably BAD... Useless..

I honestly can not believe that in 2020, someone actually released EurailInterrailRailPlanner... NOTHING WORKS. Just try to schedule a seat on Madrid to Barcelona, or Madrid to Marseille.... the results show 29 hours... I hope the 12 year old who designed this has to go to summer school to repeat his User Interface Design Class... what a waste of time.

By

Unusable!!!

Can’t show simple simple routes!!
Tried many times to different destinations in Germany to no avail. It was only showing multiple connections when there was 2 non-stops. Finally gave up and deleted it. A complete waste of time using EurailInterrailRailPlanner. If I could give it Zero stars then I would.

By

Total scam!!

EurailInterrailRailPlanner doesn’t work whatsoever. Aside for the $950 I paid for my “unlimited travel” they charge around 30 euros more for a 1 hr trip to a near town. The schedule that appears on EurailInterrailRailPlanner is not the same as the one on the railway station. On EurailInterrailRailPlanner you have all these times scheduled, but when you go to the station to make a reservation, they tell you that the hours on EurailInterrailRailPlanner are completely wrong. I have been trying to build my trip, but so far I’ve only lost my time on my trip.

By

Not great

EurailInterrailRailPlanner is not very user-friendly. Half of it doesn’t even work. Finding trains is a hassle, and making additional reservations is apparently impossible. Not impressed. Would recommend almost any other train app.

Just No

This has been the most unoptimized, stress-inducing app I’ve ever used in my life. Yeah, you get to “plan” where you’re going, yet you find yourself dumbfounded at the information EurailInterrailRailPlanner spits at you and end up missing a train.
Would not recommend...

By

Worst app ever! Don’t bother downloading

You are better off attempting to do it all online as EurailInterrailRailPlanner never works, crashes and will not save your info! Worst app I have ever used! Unbelievable it’s for an official company!

Worthless for trip planning

New update has critical bug, can’t create a “Trip Plan”. When selecting a train, add to your trip, go to trip - train never shows up.

DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON EUROSTAR. Customer service is aweful, it’s nearly impossible to find a seat if you need to book last minute. Sometimes when you go to book it takes 30 min to process and you loose your seat if it books up in that time f a e. Watch out for traveling Eurostar out of London. We found it easiest to take a train to Dover and take the ferry from there. I wish we could get a refund a full refund because even receiving 85% for this experience is absolutely not worth it. Don’t think you’ll be saving money with Eurostar.

The Global Mobile Pass from Rail Europe was the worst I have used in 50 years, mostly because of its app deficiences on my cellphone. I will never use an app from Rail Europe.

Really really disappointing, information is inaccurate when it comes to transfers even when you explicitly search for direct trains. Waste of time

Bjorn Swanson   1 year ago

The app sucks and it almost seems as though the entire region of Europe doesn’t know what the fuck eurail even is. My friends and I would approach a train worker with our eurail ticket and they’d look at us dumbfounded. If you have a large trip planned with lots of stops, never fucking ever use eurail - it is horrible and will cost you time and money.
