Removing Instacart support for this app is step in the wrong direction

For the last year my family has been using Instacart to get our groceries at Cub for curbside pickup. That was discontinued this week because cub now has their own “pickup and delivery experience”. This experience is pretty poor at the moment though, a major step backwards.

First off and the biggest deal breaker for me: I have to enter my credit card online to order. No PayPal, no Apple/Google pay, my raw credit card. After the parent company super values security breaches a few years ago, I have low confidence in this. Chip readers in every store and NFC payments in store and Apple Pay/PayPal through Instacart made this a thing of the past, but they decided to ditch security for some reason.

Second, their app is a desktop optimized browser container. It works so poorly on my phone it’s unusable - back to the desktop to order groceries.

Third, nowhere do I see any way to have favorites or past purchases saved. This was a huge time saver on Instacart.

Next, I now have 2 cub logins. Their storefront and main login are managed separately and password managers fight over which one is the correct password (because, who would have more than one per domain in this day and age?).

It is very frustrating that this is the replacement for your third party tool. Sadly, 1-3 are pretty much deal breakers for me for shopping these days.

Great way to prepare a shopping list

Being able to scroll through the ads and just tap the items you want added to your shopping list makes it so simple to get ready to go to the store. Works the same with coupons. A suggestion to make it better would be to organize the items on the list based on where they are in the store, dairy, frozen, bakery and so on. Only downside I’ve experienced is when you tap an item in the ad for a closer look and then go back to the ad, it takes you back to the beginning of the ad

Terrible for shopping from cell

I used to quickly & easily do all of our grocery shopping at Cub via Instacart on my cell. It’s near impossible now, such a terrible design. Also NOTHING shows up? The search engine is terrible. Want crab legs? Try typing them in, you get zero results. Spiral ham? Same. Have switched over to the Target app and a local butcher for meat. Also as someone else said, showing recently shopped items would have been such a time saver - I’m so surprised that wasn’t a feature considered when CubFoods was made. It’s like they asked zero users for feedback on how they’d been shopping before forcing the switch over. Ugh. Will check back in the future in case it gets better but for immunocompromised customers this was a major miss/fail.

Online shopping capabilities is Subpar to all competitors.

I have never had so many difficulties with an App. First, I have to log in over and over again if I leave the “shop” section. My Rewards number is in a section that is not part of the login and it never follows my online order. I have had to ask for refunds multiple times. Then when you do check out, I have to change the contact phone number, even though on the account page the info is there. Obviously the two pieces of info are not connected. Then I have to, every time you check out, check and confirm your address. If I’ve checked coupons to use on the coupon page, they don’t transfer to your online order page. The problems with CubFoods are ridiculous!

Easy to use

So far I like CubFoods .
However, it’d be nice if the shopping list could be organized into departments for better in store shopping.
I haven’t tried ordering online for pick up or delivery yet. Mainly because I found that on CubFoods , the weekly ad pricing doesn’t always match the pricing on the online ordering site. Bummer.
Another suggestion is to add an option to import the shopping list to the online ordering site for convenience.
Overall, I do enjoy using CubFoods and will continue to do so. Hoping to try out the online ordering soon.

Ok but needs improvements

The service is great but CubFoods needs improving. There are items that I know the store has that are not available through CubFoods . The filter options are horrible. If you sort by brand, like Gold n Plum, it’s not even listed but you know they have it in you don’t filter. Or sort by price and you get half the options. The prices are often very different than what you get in store.

Terrible app, what’s the point?

Walmart is always full, thanks pandemic! Figured I’d try Cub grocery Pickup so I downloaded CubFoods , created an account, and clicked SHOP ONLINE only to have CubFoods open its own little browser to shop online and NOT within CubFoods itself like competing applications do. I was unable to “login” to this new web page it opened, it failed constantly and told me my email and password were incorrect. I changed my password per the website’s recommendation and I still could not login.
What’s the point of creating such an app if you’re just going to cripple the primary function?
At the end of the day it uses instacart, anyway, so why bother using the Cub app at all when you can get a different app that works for so many other stores, all in one app?

Thought It’d Be Like the Target App

Obviously no app is perfect. But for a grocery store chain as large as Cub is I’d have expected CubFoods to be better. I downloaded it today to look up a very specific unusual food item and it popped up. Great! Then, when I got to the store I opened up CubFoods , selected my location, and wanted to see what aisle it was in.... hmmm... all it lists is a product. I checked other things I needed and it didn’t give me locations for those either. The point of an app like this is to make things more convenient. I asked three different sales associates where my item was located and none of them knew. Good thing CubFoods knew they had it but didn’t tell me where or if my location carried it. I left without purchasing it (if it was even at that store).

Impossible to find the actual weekly ad

CubFoods allows you to select various weekly ads from a drop down menu—all ads, it seems, except the actual weekly ad. This week (2/21) there is a 3 page “new items” ad (mislabeled as the weekly ad), a dog food ad, a seafood ad, a liquor ad, a floral ad, and the coupon book, but no actual ad indicating what is on sale this week in store. Considering we are STILL in a pandemic I try to use weekly ads to plan my grocery shopping so I’m not milling around the already overcrowded store for an hour trying to see what’s a deal. This is an obnoxious flaw in CubFoods and really needs to be dealt with in the next update.

Not as good as Instacart

I used to use the Cub app when it was still paired with Instacart, and I wished they kept it that way. With the new app you have to open another page just to order groceries online, and you can never stay logged in even when you click “keep me logged in”. You can’t pick specific substitutes for items anymore, and paying takes you to this third party app. The only good thing about the new app is that your food is shopped by Cub workers and they text you about any out of stock items, and it doesn’t take them forever to bring groceries to your car, hence the 2 star instead of 1 star.

One of the best!

Update 2019; This is one of the best grocery apps out there. My husband and I can see the same list as long as we login with the same account. It works fine for me! This was an update from when they first set it up. Love this feature. Easy to add things with a scan of the barcode or microphone. Finally, canalside categories which are the same as Isles in the store. Almost perfect and cub honors the coupons even if not swiped which is fantastic.

App asks u to sign in again even when u are signed in to your account to claim a coupon.

App is not user friendly where is constantly asks u to sign back in. I am signed in to CubFoods where I can see everything within my account. When I select one of the offers on the top banner such as the Friday freebie or currently the daily deals in December it bring up another page that provide a new link to select to claim the offer. Once u do that the next page is that it asks u to sign into your account again even though I am still signed into CubFoods account. I than have to cancel the sign in, manually search for the item in the coupon list and then add it.

Delete coupon(s)

It’s quite the bummer that you CAN’T deleted ANY coupons in the Cub app- what is up with that?? There is NO OPTION what so ever to be able to DELETE any coupons, so I’m running in circles trying to find ANYTHING! Not sure if anyone else had been having THIS issue OR about coupons “added” that you didn’t add that weren’t your interest? I hope that this can be fixed, it would make things a whole lot EASIER + I can’t seem to find the “MORE SAVING IN EVERY AISLE” coupon book that comes in the Sunday StribExpress.

Useless app!

The product search is not as intuitive as on the other stores I shop at; you have to enter the entire product name to get what you’re looking for. Some of the items had surprisingly few options; the had only one or two brands to toilet paper when they have many more in the store. I couldn’t use my Cub gift card on CubFoods . Customer service said they don’t have that functionality yet. The digital coupons don’t get applied until after your order is filled, so you don’t know what you’re spending.

Horrible

I loved CubFoods 6 months ago. Now it’s crap. The best feature was being able to add items to my shopping list & having those items show up on the store map.I also appreciated the convenience of having my Cub card in CubFoods . Neither of those features work anymore. I no longer have a map appear to guide me & my cub card won’t scan at the check out. I’m deleting CubFoods .

Review

Need to add text availability from shoppers to customer, I have checked off stay signed on, but each time I go back need to sign in again. Unable to find some sale items from ad and add to list. Not sure if I am getting sale price from coupon book, lists full price even though I have linked my rewards card. Good service on pick up service.

Some observations

When CubFoods loads stores and coupons quickly it functions well enough. But often it seems to take forever to do this, usually when I’m in the store trying to see whether I have a coupon. Another problem: the Cub newspaper flyer contains coupons that don’t appear in CubFoods . Isn’t the whole point of CubFoods to make paper coupons unnecessary? Finally, whoever had the idea to nag the user to rate CubFoods after every action performed in CubFoods was not thinking clearly. It’s like a kid asking “are we there yet” every 30 seconds. Not likely to elicit a favorable review.

User Friendly for the most part

I like the features that are on CubFoods such as weekly ads separated by category, rewards, and coupons. I wish there was a way to create a list by tapping an item in the weekly ad rather than just having a circle show up. I don't want to go through the whole ad again to find my choices.

Paper bags with handles

Love the bags w/handles. They are reused for taking garbage out.
Lately however I find that the bags aren’t as strong as they used to be. Handles have ripped off as placing groceries into it and a few times the whole bag has ripped apart spilling my groceries onto the floor trying to carry the bags with out the handles because they came off while putting the food in.

The widget is back!

That makes everything a lot better. The coupons still unload when you first go into them and try to search everything, so you have to back out and tap back into the coupons before you can actually search them. That’s frustrating but it’s been a problem for long enough I’m just used to it. Still not a huge fan of the new layout. But, it pretty much does what you need it to.

I loved the app but now...

I could tap on an item and it would circle it and put it on my shopping list. Now, I don’t know how to get it on my shopping list. I tried typing, but it wouldn’t work. I tried tapping, but it wouldn’t work. Everything I do ends up not showing up on my shopping list. Other than seeing the weekly ad, CubFoods is now useless. Very disappointing!

Very Basic App. :(

The functions within the pharmacy section, are minimal at best. It looks like all it can do it order a refill - and not very easily.

The shopping list feature could be easily enhanced with the ability to forward/text someone else the list.

When you try to order online, it brings you to a website - and the first thing it tells you is that is works best by using CubFoods . (But I’m using CubFoods !) And nowhere can I find the costs associated with ordering online and pickup at the store. Is this cheaper than delivery, the same, or what? I should be able to find prices without creating an instacart account.

Overall CubFoods is very disappointing because the functions are simply too basic. Please enhance and you will have a more satisfied customer that isn’t actively looking for shopping and pharmacy alternatives.

Don’t like new set up

The new update is really flawed. My phone (even on wifi) has a hard time loading the ad portion. Also, the scrolling at the top is annoying. When I see something interesting and try to tap on it it scrolls past, I then try to bring it back, which then CubFoods moves it...it’s like an awkward dance. Before when looking at the ads it was like reading from the paper now I don’t even bother. I honestly only use CubFoods for the Friday freebie, when before I looked at it a couple of times a week.

Customer

This store has the most awesome employees! Always smiling, very helpful and exceptionally knowledgeable. The store is very clean with pretty decent prices. I have to say that if I moved to a different area closer to another Cub Foods I, would find myself making the commute back to the Riverdale, Coon Rapids Store. Liz, Monie, Lisa and Ruth, thank you for always making each one of my Cubs Food experiences a great one.

Wish I could sort my shopping list

An earlier version of CubFoods allowed a user to sort their list, at least when using the online version, which would sync with CubFoods . The current version no longer has that feature. It was very helpful to be able to sort my list before shopping, so that all produce items were together, all frozen, etc. Please bring back that feature!!!

Add pics of ingredient lists

I’m enjoying the ease of shopping online. However, I’m not able to see the list of ingredients in the pictures of the packaged food items. I have a medical condition, it’s imperative that I read the ingredients list so I can select food items that work for me. By adding the pics, shopping online will be much easier and faster

Somethings do not work

I just bought 4 cereals and the $4 kick back did not work..I bought Bare chicken the other day and did not get the $2 off...It’s frustrating that things don’t work the way they should..I am an employee and feel bad when I have to say this didn’t work...I just want it to work correctly the first time so I don’t have to go back later and explain that I did buy the right products...

Glitches

I’m always checking to see if there is a new download version of CubFoods because it is so glitchy. There are hardly any updates or improvements though. Every time I try to use CubFoods, I have to reselect and save “my store”. I’m not positive how the coupons work... sometimes I have to add coupons to my card and sometimes they are on there automatically (hundreds). CubFoods just crashes randomly too. CubFoods is really out of date and annoying compared to the hyvee app which I haven’t had any issues with yet.
