Disappointed

2022-05-21

Crashes on launch on iPad. Used platform this to tell developers. Support via Reddit?

I paid for a subscription but I can’t use the app

2022-06-22

Subscription is paid but you wont let me use Oovium . Please return my money.

Odd, unwieldy interface prevents real use

2022-07-23

I get that the developer doesn't like the standard iOS interface, but the new interface acts peculiar and you are left guessing how to do things.
Delete an Aether? Change the Aether settings? Rename an Aether? Drop the number box thing out of your way? Undo? Change the default black background to something else? I don't have any cues or clues for how to do these things in the new interface. The iOS interface may not suit everyone's tastes, but at least it's obvious how to delete/rename/hide/scroll...

The little in-app tutorial is good, but only limited to how to make bubbles. The help on anchoring is fine, but where are the rest of the help files?

Video-based information is useless for people that can't view videos on websites (many places have this locked down!)

Unless cues and clues for using the interface are added or the developer uses the iOS interface, Oovium 's interface prevents many of the possibilities/features from actually being used, so they might as well not even be there. I hope this is fixed very soon.

Great Potential, but a Very Poor Marketing Approach.

2022-08-24

I have this app classic on my iphone, but the paid version is too expensive, as well as too limited in accessibility to afford. I WISH there was a pay-once option, (not sure if I know enough to say this, but $30 a year from each user is quite excessive, and presumably why Oovium has only 17 reviews for the 4+ years it (the paid app) has been on Oovium store.)

If you made Oovium into a one-time purchase worth at least no more than $10, but ideally $3.99 or less, then you would have exponentially more purchasers that would (likely) result in well-over 20x your current earning rate. Then, if necessary, raise the purchase price for new buyers by maybe a dollar or two, once this app has gathered a wide-spread reputation, and earn even more. You could possibly obtain donation money as well from strongly-supportive clients.

The only applications that can somewhat-justifiably get away with $30+ yearly subscriptions, are name-brand tools like adobe photoshop, Microsoft Office, etc.

However, the most painful thing to see is that this app is Apple-exclusive. No one is going to be able to save this app if someone creates an open-source donation-based alternative with wider cross-platform availability.

Truly brilliant idea, but crash-prone and poor docs

2022-09-25

This is a brilliant idea, but the execution is lacking, plus the documentation could be much better. I've managed to crash it 5 times in the last 15 minutes experimenting with it. I just love the concept, and wish this developer would spend all his effort on rock-solid stability and error handling/recovery, not to mention improve the documentation. This is a beta at best right now, but one with great promise. My equation for Oovium: 5 stars for the idea minus 2 stars for its lack of stability and good documentation.

Frequent crashes with gridbub

2022-10-26

I think the UI on this is brilliant, but the gridbub feature is definitely not ready for release. It frequently crashes on me when I hit = to enter a value, and when I go back into Oovium , many of my most recent changes are missing.

Also, there is no way to label rows. Even watching the demo of the feature, before I bought Oovium , I wondered about all the units and prices, wondering "units of what". You can rename columns, but you can't even enter any kind of text value into a cell or label a row.

Promising

2022-11-27

Happy to contribute to such a creative approach to tablet-based calculation, which is sorely lacking IMO. I find conventional spreadsheets are annoying and unsuitable for the tablet interface. None of them rank over 3 stars in the store, and I completely understand why. I believe this one could get to 5 given the obvious talent of the developer. From an engineering POV, this is my idea of a great app for entering lab measurements with a library of functions for post-processing the data (a critical use-case I believe for adoption). The only major things I am missing after creating my first function library and dependent ether are strings, constants, and units. The minor issues associated with automatic numeric representation and column widths will undoubtedly work themselves out in near-term updates. I get it ... start with the simplest interface and add complexity only when unavoidable. This is very impressive given the current readiness level. Thanks for yet another reason for employers to issue iPads. I'm very much looking forward to the complete implementation of the vision (suspense deadly). Recommendation: Buy now before the price goes way up.

Almost Great

2022-12-28

I love the idea of Oovium. I could be extremely useful and even game changing. I just wish it would work with my Logitech keyboard. I wish it had a manual or a help file or even pop up labels for its icons. I wish it had a loop structure other than recursion. I wish it had graphing and graphics capabilities. Other than that it is so compelling I can't stop playing with it.

Still needs some spit and polish to replace spreadsheets, but...

2023-01-29

...very innovative. Once it can better handle labeling and grouped items, I can see this replacing most things I'd otherwise use a spreadsheet app for.

The other half of the missing star is from Oovium 's use of custom UI elements instead of the standard iOS ones.

Something new

2023-03-02

It's a wonderful idea and way of working.
It's not the solution to everything, but sometimes this presents itself as the easiest way to visualize a problem and easily let's you explore alternate solutions or iterations.
Documentation and examples could use some work - but that task never ends and this way you get more play time.

Love it! :)

2023-03-31

Oovium is great. I like to use it as a math notepad. You can do your work and then go back and view, compare and edit all your previous data.
My current favorite feature is the text labels. Thank you Joe and Aepryus :)
I look forward to future development and wish you all success with your endeavors.

Truly Unique !!

2023-05-02

I can finally perform "back of the envelope" calculations electronically. This truly may be less effort than doing initial rough calculations by hand.

I am a Structural Engineer and perform design calculations routinely throughout the day. My calculations usually begin by hand and then eventually over time are programmed into an Excel spreadsheets for repetitive use in the future. I can see the ability of effortlessly creating those initial hand calculations in this program.

The interface of this program makes use of all the strengths of a tablet computer.

Clearly the developer has bigger plans for this software but even in its current version (1.1.2.4) the potential is obvious. I look forward to exploring this program as it currently stands and eagerly await future updates.

Beautiful

2023-06-02

Oovium is a thing of beauty. Using it reminds me of what it felt like to use Labview on a MacIIx 25 years ago!! Hopefully this is just the first stage in the evolution of what an iPad spreadsheet app should be. Looking forward to seeing it grow. In the meanwhile my wish list would be the inclusion of a random number generator function and some loop structure.

A great math tool

2023-07-04

In a short time, I have found Oovium to be a must-have math tool when I need to do spreadsheet-like calculations fast; when I need to program a quick formula to do repetitive calculations; when I need to save math doodling that I usually do on scrape paper, but can now do with this tool and retain the calculations to redo with new figures. It is a new way in doing certain things that I have done before with other programmable calculators and spreadsheets, but can now do using a creative concept where you control the the math tool to the way you think. It makes the old ways of doing math a little more fun in the process.

Good & Creative with great potential

2023-08-04

Oovium is terrific. Unique and creative. It allows you to work with values and the relationships between values in a visual freeform way. Think spreadsheet with free floating cells unanchored from a grid. This will not be an app for everyone, it is a matter of taste in how you think. I love spreadsheets and Oovium does not replace 'em. But this is the only app I can turn to that works in the way my mind needs to for some types of problems. So when I do use it, I love it and I support it with 5 stars. An app that I fully appreciate having.
--------
Very nice app. Very creative. Think mind mapping for calculations.

Looking forward to future versions to realize it's fuller potential.

Works like my brain

2023-09-05

As a mind or concept mapping tool, this app is unsurpassed. Most other apps of this kind make you think like Oovium ...this app allows me to make a map reflecting the way I think. For specific tasks the flexibility of Oovium makes it possible to approach diverse problems in the optimal manner, differently from one to the next. In combination with these attributes, the addition of mathematical elements have proven invaluable in modeling a mechanical system. I first map out the general structure of a machine, then I use the numerical functions to flesh out the model. In gear ratios for example, I can enter constant values and immediately see the effect of changing one or more variables in the system.

Fascinating App!

2023-10-07

I hope Oovium continues to get traction. Seems very solid as a work in progress. It is a useful productivity app that draws me in like a game app.

Creative way to work with numbers

2023-11-07

I work extensively with data migrations and business intelligence and Oovium helps me figure out what is going on.

My go-to calculator for investments and all scratch pad math as well.

Really useful app

2023-12-09

Oovium allows me to prototype engineering design genetic algorithm and genetic programming models before I launch into coding. Great for visually analyzing a single example output to debug the logic. Very useful and handy since my iPad mini is quick and available.

I support alternate thinking!

2024-01-09

Being geekish and proactive I bought this to help keep it alive. I really enjoy all of it. I was surprised when I finally got a MAC so I could see it, that I would have to buy a $30 version. Perhaps you could have a sale?
