App crashes when trying to sync my photos to my synology every time now and I cannot get it to work any more.
Update: months later now and still crashes every time I open it. I cannot do anything.

been using for years but DSphoto kept crashing for a few months. Can synology solve this problem soon since it stoped working for quite some time.

Review for Synology app management team.
Synology made Moments and DS Photo to handle your photo.
Do you really need several apps to handle my photos?
Don’t get confused: Moments it’s NOT replacement for DS Photo.
Synology decided to make it more complicated: to make photo back up - you have to use Moments. To make editing-use DS Photo....

If DSphoto is closed it will not run in the background. I was looking for an app that would backup all my photos in the background but no luck. Love my NAS but DSphoto far from delivers for me. I'll probably just go back to the backup onto plex.

Tried everything. Background restriction is disabled. Geofencing is on. Location set to always. Full access to all photos. And still it doesn’t upload photos in my camera roll automatically and even if I start DSphoto and get it going, the minute i exit DSphoto , it will stop uploading. This is total garbage.

Horrible app.
My family and I share pictures on DSphoto with the intention of looking at them from times to times.
It used to be fine up until a year ago where all of my picture are now no where to be found. Very disappointing.

It doesn’t upload in the background. Zero part of me wants to just have DSphoto open with my screen on watching it upload one by one. Please fix this. Is it really that hard?

Our family has hundreds of thousands of photos and videos on our Synology NAS. Please support: 1) HEIC/HEIF format without requiring conversion to jpeg, 2) screencasting of photos/slideshow to appletv, and 3) true file search (not filter).

I had ds photo, file, and video all working at one point. After a while I came back to backup my photos on the iPhone and DSphoto will not allow me to login. I changed nothing.. ok, then I went to file app and it gave me an option to backup photos. It does nothing.. I am realizing the apps seem broken. Disappointed, Synology please keep apps updated…

It seems really hard to remember if a picture is uploaded or not. When I open DSphoto after a month to back up pictures, it will start over from the beginning.

DSphoto really needs to upload photos in the background. As it stands I need to open DSphoto and keep it open to get my photos backed up to my nas. Instead of making my life easier, this is now something of a chore

DSphoto works very well except for one thing: lack of support for Live Photos, or HEIF/HEIC format that Apple has used since iOS 11. Currently, DS Photos converts these files to JPG and a MOV for the movie. This isn't ideal and the native format should be supported. With HEIC DSphoto would receive 5 stars.

I always find some photos missing from the “Albums” tab, like screenshots, photo downloaded somewhere else. Even though I can find those photo files in the DSFile, their thumbnails are not showing in this app. Why?

There is an issue when you try to upload a video that’s over 4GB. It will start uploading and when the progress bar reaches the end it will start again. But if you check the folder using the file explorer, you can see the video was uploaded correctly but the will keep trying to upload it again and again... my wife uploaded a 4.5GB video 10 times without noticing. Fix this please.

My family has a Synology so we use this for photo backup. As a general photo storage app it’s OK, but it’s not great for searching and viewing photos on the go (takes forever to load photos on both WiFi and data). Photo uploads are also very, very slow.

Recently more and more images with WEBP format are used in various web pages, but those images cannot be uploaded from the gallery of IPAD.

Really like this, as I use it instead of iCloud now. However, sometimes I have to open DSphoto and click on the task list to get it to upload my iPhone photos when it’s set to automatically back them up.

Was working fine until I updated to iOS 14.2 beta. Solid app to connect to NAS. Not as full featured as other photo apps but ability to use my NAS and not cloud is key.

The initial upload took a while since DSphoto transcodes all photos from Apple proprietary format to the standard JPG but it went well and DSphoto kept the phone unlocked in the meantime. Now I can relax that all my photos are automatically backed up and I can view them from the server.

DSphoto is excellent and extremely easy to use. Some of the less than 5 star reviews are definitely under rating DSphoto.

- DSphoto seems to stop uploading content in the background for unknown reasons, even though background app refresh is on. I will leave DSphoto and come back to it a while later to find it is still close to where I left off for uploading.
- It can’t upload slow-mo videos unless you keep the original file name.
- It doesn’t offer a quick retry option for files that fail to upload due to what is almost always an “unknown error.”
- You can’t drag to select a group of photos, you can only select all or one at a time.
- There’s no pause/retry button if an upload stalls, only the option to cancel; this means you have to close and reopen DSphoto if it stalls.
- DSphoto doesn’t keep the screen active when it seems to need to have the screen unlocked and DSphoto on screen.
- Similarly, you have to keep your screen active and unlocked while it prepares photos to upload or it will stop and freeze.
- Has a “preparing” pause before EACH PHOTO that is uploaded. This pause can be longer than it takes to upload the photo.
- Can’t seem to simply select an album and start a slideshow for that album.
Overall, DSphoto could use some attention to get some simple additions and changes made. Not sure what separates this from using DS File, for example.

Would be nice to be able to cancel tasks and also to have tasks work in the background for photo uploads

Organising your photos is easy: with traditional albums, using tags to create virtual albums or with a simple tap with the timeline mode! Better yet, download albums to the iDevice to view them even when no network connection is available, and use the Photo Backup to effortlessly upload your photos taken with your iDevice onto your own personal cloud.
DS photo allows you to browse through the photo collection on your Synology NAS server on the go, as well as interact with friends using the comments in real time.
