VC-Funded Scam

Mammoth is funded by VC money and defaults to creating accounts on its own instance while adding friction for anyone wanting to use another instance. This is to create a centralized and easy-to-track service that can then be sold to advertisers and fascist governments. They say you can move your account to another server, but for how long? Once they have a subscription plan in place, if one decides they don’t want to pay, will the developer block people from moving their account? I think with what we’ve learned about centralized services, we can most assuredly say that yes, they will do anything they can to extract their VC money out investment many times over. VCs are in it to make money and to multiply their investment. They’ll do whatever they need to achieve that. The users are pawns. Stay away from Mammoth, specific service and developer, and use another client that doesn’t have any of this baggage. And to matters even worse, Mammoth was developed by the same person who worked on Mast. Mast was a (very buggy and unstable) paid-upfront app, that its developer got bored with and completely abandoned. The developer also took pleasure in mocking their paying customers who reported bugs. There is zero redeeming value with Mammoth, developer or the organization behind it all. Just use another client.

Mammoth is fabulous!

this app is one of seven Mastodon apps I’ve tried over time. Every time I try a new one out, I always go back to it. The UX is so intuitive and pleasing. It’s very customizable and has some easy-to-use features, such a browsing other communities, that you don’t find anywhere else. Definitely a favorite!

My favorite Mastodon client

I think I finally found a Mastodon client that I like a lot. Easy to navigate.
I love the feature where it can scan the words on a meme or post and write it out for the alt text. I only knew of one other place that did that. Saves me a lot of time.

By

Tentatively like it

There are some bugs, but it’s an early release. I have bigger concerns about the company’s lack of transparency so far, especially regarding financial backers. Watching.

By

Possibly not compatible with other Fediverse platforms

Mammoth is excellent. Best I’ve used on iOS so far. That said, it’s become apparent that you cannot see the posts of non-Mastodon users (e.g. view a user’s profile, where posts should be it just spins). I hope they get this fixed soon because this is a 5 star app otherwise. As is, it’s a black eye for something connected to the Fediverse.

Packed with features!

This is the best social media app in Mammoth Store! Tons of customization options, scheduled posts, post translations, post recommendations, and entertaining button sounds and animations. A true delight!

By

Not bad

Not a bad app. Needs a federated and local column separately to be great but Mammoth is off to great start!

By

Horrible App

I heard about this new site and wanted to give it a try well as soon as I logged in to the account my account would not load I tried closing Mammoth and opened up more times than I could count and it just wouldn’t load pure rubbish I give this a 1 star!!

By

Slick Interface

A very nice-looking and highly-customizable client.

Please add swipe-right-to-go-back gesture support.

By

Solid

There are a lot of choices of Mastodon clients and this one hits the sweet spot of usability and power. Thoughtful and polished design.

Fantastic app; and now fantastic instance!

Beware!!!

Mammoth is being developed by the developer of Mast. A mastodon client that didn’t not work half the time and was sold off to another developer. He then went to make Aviary for Twitter using the same code which introduced the same bugs that never got addressed. That app was being sold for a small sum to use. Dev would later abandon Mammoth with all its bugs to move on to Aviary 2. Using the exact same code as his previous app which meant the same bugs. He charged a premium price along with a subscription for that junk. Vinyls was also another app that he went on to create and abandon after 6 months. Do not use this persons apps (he goes by jpeguin on social media aka shihab mehboob). this app is being funded by VC, meaning Mammoth won’t be free for long. Investors will need to get their money back somehow. It also directs you to their own instance which is a red flag for the new user. Do not use Mammoth. There are many others that are free and have more features. Ice cubes is a great app that is OPEN SOURCE and received constant updates. Ivory is Tweetbot but for mastodon, and then there’s Mona which has a whole load of customization features available to you.

This app is simply fantastic!

There are other good Mastodon apps out there but I can honestly say that almost immediately after trying this out, it became my primary client. I have only opened another client twice since, once was to use a feature that this app does not yet have and the other was to compare how something was implemented. That is it, have not really looked back. Mammoth is new but the development team seems really strong & experienced and devoted to what they are doing and to doing it well. Congrats on a job well done and thank you for that!

Almost forgot to add that Mammoth has features I have not found in the other handful of clients I have tried so far. Lots of useful, nifty, extra features sprinkled throughout Mammoth . And it is tiny.

Buggy, but a good start

I've been using this since the betas and it has promise but still has a few major bugs. The first is that a sync takes about 5 seconds on a fast connection. It also sometimes confuses posts and will put the content of one post in another one, attributing the text to someone else's account and avatar. And today I replied with an image upload and the post screen went away as if it was posted but the post disappeared! I posted it again and the same thing happened. I looked through the web interface and the replies just never showed up.

Great but One Annoyance

Recently got tired of some of the limitations of the official Mastodon app and went around looking for third parties. I do like this one, although my only annoyance is that instance emojis still don't work. There's been two bug reports on the Github and I would like to be able to see emojis functioning, because otherwise this app is a pretty solid application from what little of it I've used.

By

Best Mastodon App I’ve Tried So Far

I’ve tried multiple apps for Mastodon, and this one comes closest to my ideal. It’s the first I’ve used that syncs with the filters I’ve established via the website, and it allows me to add hashtags to the filter within Mammoth . I hope a future release allows me to remove hashtags from filters too. Other aspects of Mammoth are highly customizable. I’m still learning all its hidden powers.

By

Almost perfect

I love everything about Mammoth, but I wish it supported custom emoji. When users put custom emoji in their posts, they don't show up when those posts are viewed in this app. Aside from that, it's the perfect Mastodon experience

By

Doesn’t generate enough posts

Tends to generate some of the most recent 3 hours of posts (which really isn’t very many posts at all), but then there will be a gap in displayed posts that’s days old and there doesn’t appear to be a way to load posts from between those times. It’s not like all the people I’m following simultaneously decided to stop posting during that time, so why can’t I see them on my feed?

By

Hard to get current

I like Mammoth a lot, but the latest update removed the easy way to jump to the latest toots in the timeline. Now, it's always hours behind. :(

By

You can view other servers local timelines!

I’m not sure if you’re looking for that but that’s what I was, and boy am I happy about it. Mammoth is great, wish there was something like it on web haha

By

Best iOS Mastodon Client

A focus on UX and function makes this the best Mastodon client available. Bonus points for anyone self-hosting: say goodbye to complex and incomplete relays! this app seamlessly pulls in ALL replies and posts from the remote server, so you see the full conversation.

By

Bugs remain since initial release but it’s an overall good experience

There are two bugs that annoys me since its initial release:

1. Notifications doesn’t provide any information, just this emoji -> 🎉
2. My main feed cuts the toots in a quarter of its exhibit, messing up the whole experience (hard to describe in text only).

There’s nothing on Mammoth or the website where I can file a bug report, send an e-mail or whatever... and until the day I can properly report these problems, my review is as follows.

Best Twitter Alternative: Mastodon Made Easy

I’ve been trying to leave Twitter - too much toxic spam. this app makes Mastodon easy to get into for regular folks like me. It’s like moving to a Canada with good sunny weather.

By

Buggy

Buggy. Interface buttons disappear. Random refresh issues. Random freezing. Official and Teletext are more along and I wound up going back. Neat interface though. Needs to address stability issues.

By

Super slow

this app UI is super slow and buggy. Loading feeds take time. Liking or reposting is slow and lags quite a bit I like a post but it still wouldn’t show. If I do it again, sometime it will show -1. In general there are small glitches throughout the system.

By

The one

I have tried all others. This is the one you want.

By

Great tool, still a few issues

I love the look and feel of this tool. My only complaints are the relatively high number of crashes and the fact that tapping the home button does not take me to top of my feed.

By

Seems snappy but…

Over all I enjoy Mammoth and I’m pretty new to Mastodon but one thing that bugs me about Mammoth is the unused space on the left hand side. It’s just user icons and then a half inch of empty space.

That was one of the first things that bugged me right as I launched Mammoth and I was hoping there was a setting to change it but I’ve had no luck finding any.

Mammoth does have a nice ui otherwise and lots of setting that the official app doesn’t seem to have.

Crashes Whenever I Share from the timeline

iOS 16.6.1, iPad Pro 12.9" (Fourth Generation) Lots of features, onboarding is good, but the one feature I really need is sharing Tweets (might as well call them that now), so crashing instantaneously on tapping the Share button is a little disappointing. To be fair, when I click through to the "tweet" page, Share works. It only crashes from timeline

Also, where's the embed function?

By

Mammoth 2 is here!

Well done, developers! Love the feed that shows each post and boost separately rather than grouped together. Makes it easier to view! And love that it’s easy to see someone’s individual posts rather than all their re-boosts.

And thank you for the featured interest feed! Love how I can find new people to follow with shared interests!

By

Excellent work

I almost never leave reviews on try App Store, but Mammoth made browsing Mastodon infinitely better and I would recommend this to anyone looking to try out Mastodon. In comparison, the official app is clunky, has too little customization and a giant font. Mammoth is smooth, has beautiful UI, and is highly customizable.

By

Wow! It’s so sleek

I’ve wanted to join Mastodon for a long time but couldn’t deal with the complexity. this app to the rescue! It was a breeze to sign up taking just a couple of minutes. Follow suggestions and smart lists connected me to my interests and the For You feed is helping me discover new accounts. It’s the best new app and an absolute joy to use.

By

Getting better, but not without issues

Things have gotten a lot better lately with new features and a lot more polish, but some problems persist. Namely image quality when viewed within Mammoth is much, much worse than the image quality of the original photos/videos hosted on their respective fediverse servers. It’s as if they’ve failed to correctly load and is especially noticeable/unusable on iPad.

By

A simple way to pull away from the bird site

If you tried Mastodon and found it too confusing, this app takes away much of that confusion. It’s simple, it’s well designed, and most importantly, it’s a way to wrestle control over your social away from ego-maniacal billionaires. Definitely worth trying.

By

Great app!

I’m so happy to have discovered this app app. I followed a bunch of cool people and scoped out the amazing smart lists. What a great idea! So many topics to choose from! My favorite list is about pixel art and the recommendations on the For You feed have been great. Great app!

By

It’s ok.

I’m not a fan of the navigation at the bottom. I wish they just went with standard iOS design elements. I’m also not a fan of the change to a heart instead of the star for likes. Other than that the algorithms for smart lists is pretty neat. I’ll keep it installed to see how it improves over time but I still greatly prefer Ice Cubes for Mastodon.

By

My favorite Mastodon client!

Version one was great, had a lot of “extras”, but version 2 is just different. UX/UI is super clean and polished. Logging in and checking For You has become my main feed now. Love it!

By

Needs an option to open links in browser

Will check back in after open source

By

Best for Mastodon Newbies

Mammoth makes on-boarding to the fediverse and finding accounts to follow super easy. Great starting point for anyone who wants to try out the future of social networks.

By

Easy to get started on Mastodon

I’m new to mastodon, and this app made it really easy to set up an account. User-friendly design and love the idea of smart lists.

By

This is where we go after Twitter

this app is the best social web app for iOS. Skip Threads and Bluesky. This is the one you want.

By

Great app.

You can tell the devs really put lot of love into it. My favorite out many great ones.

By

Lost its way

I’ve been using it since the betas and it was clean, fast, functional, and gave me the customization I was looking for. The new 2.0 release added features I am not interested in and dropped support for the ones I am.

By

Mastodon for Threads users

Mastodon w a For You feed and made beautiful and user friendly

By

The best App to use Mastodon With

The curated selections and simple yet advanced UI make Mammoth stellar. It’s my daily driver now

By

Very user friendly

Visually appealing. Amazing way to aggregate relevant information. Nice work.

By

Trash

Garbage. It auto-follows the this app account when you first login and all of its recommendations are filled with political propaganda.

By

Nice update… unintuitive notification section

“All activity” shows everything like it should, but there’s no where to approve follower requests. Just tells you that you have follower requests and won’t let you approve or deny them in any fashion. The notification only takes you to that user’s profile.

Furthermore, swiping over to the “follows” section of notifications only shows you who has been approved - totally leaves out follower requests which should also be there to approve/deny.

By

Great design, but notifications aren’t working

This is a really great design and I love the customization options.

But, despite all my iOS notifications settings and in-app notifications settings being set to “on,” I’m not getting any notification alerts or notification count bubbles whatsoever.

I’ve seen this be a problem across 3rd Party Mastodon apps, so maybe it’s something to do with the instance I’m in. But, it’s really bizarre, because when I go into this app, it shows that I have unread notifications, but Mammoth isn’t sending me any alerts at all.

By

Slick Mastodon Client with One Fatal Flaw

Mastodon hasn't become an addiction to replace the formerly fun bird network that's just for toxic people and fascists now. That's fine. But it means I sometimes don't open this app for days. When that happens, getting to the most recent stories, skipping the posts I missed over the past few days, is an exercise of scrolling up, refreshing the feed, and repeating. Endlessly. Why on earth would this not just skip to the most recent posts?

By

Needs some UI tweaks but good overall

Solid app. Love the ability to save your place in the timeline. Mammoth desperately needs a “go to newest” or “go to top” button

By

Okay

This is my favorite fediverse app on iOS. The devs don’t seem to check (or ignore) support requests within Mammoth . It is nicely designed, but it has issues and it seems difficult to communicate those issues to their developer(s).
