I would absolutely love to use Tootle as it looks great and I'm looking for a better client to use mastodon on yet it won't even log me in. I logged in successfully using the client and it just cycles back to the same screen over and over again it doesn't let me actually login. I've closed Tootle , deleted and reinstalled, yet it still does the same thing. It let me log in online using my authenticator yet it cycles back to the instance search screen. If this ever gets fixed I'd love to try out Tootle - but at this time it's useless to me.

I’ve tried a handful of clients and this app has the most consistent and usable experience. However, there are still some bugs like not being able to pull down my accounts from top, occasional crashes and some grammatical and spelling quirks. The biggest issue? No updates in four months! Hopefully the developer gets an update out soon to refine Tootle because it’s been too long and some of these bugs are a bit annoying.

This is definitely my favorite of the Mastodon clients that I have tried. It is smartly organized and customizable.
However, currently on the iPhone X the layout is a bit broken. The cancel and post buttons end up in the ears by the notch, making it impossible to post photos (instead I have to kill Tootle to get out of the menu). The icons on the bottom navigation are set too low, and aren’t readable over the pull-up indicator. If these flaws are fixed, this will be an easy 5-star app.

This is one of the better mastodon clients out there but there is one fatal flaw. It keeps auto playing videos. Like in a way that’s unstoppable. So for example if I scroll past three videos in my federated timeline all three will start playing with no way to stop. If I click on one of the playing videos I get an expanded view of the toot but the video keeps playing in the background at the same time.
Great now I have two copies playing and no way to stop the one that started playing when I scrolled past it in the timeline :(

I enjoy the little islands you can join. Just being a part of specific communities is nice, and this app gives really nice control of what I’d like to see on my homepage.
However my biggest complaint is getting numerous notifications for the same thing. For instance if someone mentions me? About an hour later I’ll get 10-15 notifications for that ONE single mention that keep showing up for like 30 minutes. Even if I have seen the notification, or even delete all my notifications they still pop up. Can’t figure out how to stop that. It’s really annoying.

this app is a pretty nice Mastodon client. The pictures are presented in a wide format but are short vertically. By tapping on the picture you can reveal its full size. Tootle works best with a strong WiFi connection. If I were to suggest any change, I would say make it possible to also search by hashtag and add a feature which would offer a choice between the short, with display and full view picture display. The initial setup was tedious at first but once I got past that Tootle worked great.

Tootle seems amazing thus far, and I’m happily playing with the many features and enjoying the customization, as well as the accessibility! Thus far, no crashes (and I will update this review & stars depending on how my experience continues!) and I’m loving it! Definitely give it a try!!
The only three features I’d want to see to make this a 5-star app would be:
1) image captions! I can see others’, but I can’t make them myself, something very important for accessibility!
2) Threads should read from first posted -> most recent, not from the most recent to least recent.
3) notifications having the option to contain previews of mentions would be helpful!!
But other than those things, Tootle is fantastic thus far! Wonderful work, I’ll happily donate to you once I’ve done a bit more testing of the many features! :)

I'm still new to Mastodon, so I've only barely begun to scratch the surface, but so far this app is a nice complement to the web interface. I notice that image descriptions are a bit wonky (and I have yet to figure out if it's possible to WRITE one in this client), and posting gifs is a bit hit or miss, but the basic functionality is good & the push notification system seems to be robust. Overall, definitely an app worth keeping around. But stay logged into the web interface just in case. ;)

this app is insanely customizable which means I tend to peruse it far more than my desktop client because I am invested in it's design. You can resize text, change colour schemes, follow multiple instances from one account; then rename those instances with unique icons & also change the layout of 'tabs' on the bottom bar.
Tootle also features quick swapping between accounts & is really a joy.
4-Stars instead of 5 because..
-I have noticed that you can't add 'alt-text' to photos for a description which seems important since some instances require the descriptions for hard of vision users. This seems like a crucial accessibility flaw.
-Also Ive been experiencing a bug recently where I am not able to view my notifs on a particular instance due to it crashing shortly after selecting the tab. I also have encountered a bug where I can't change my pfps/descriptions from inside Tootle .
-However with these flaws I still daily drive Tootle due to the customization and differentiation to other social medias, that's makes Mastodon on this app feel like a league of its own.

Tootle is good for using multiple accounts and accounts with custom emoji, and the look&feel are a lot like the web app. The best feature is the Notifications tabs that separate mentions and follows from other notification types.
However, it doesn’t carry over content warnings automatically, and it’s got an encoding bug that represents apostrophes as 9s. I’m mostly comfortable using it—and certainly more comfortable than other iOS apps currently available (many either have serious translation bugs and/or don’t work on iPad)—but use with caution.

I’ve only used it for half a day, but I don’t expect it to suddenly surprise me with anything new at this point. It’s straight forward and useful. I like the subtle aesthetic features when switching in or out of things like full screen image view. I seem to recall there was something a little awkward or off putting but I honestly can’t remember what or where, so it wasn’t that devastating.

Clean layout, very customizable. One problem for me: when you click on a post, showing the replies in reverse order is confusing and hard to read! The main feed should be chron from top, as-is. But within a single post, let users see conversations from top (initial post) to bottom (most recent response), as every other app displays them.

this app is fast and has lots of nice features, like a unified emojo/emoji browser and a regex filter, but the interface is a little crowded (e.g. the bottom bar) and unpolished (the thread close X popping up over other UI elements). Also the latest update changes all apostrophes to 9s in my TL, which doesn't happen in either of my other Masto apps and is a bit weird.
Overall my favorite Masto client for usability but it could use more QA and polish.
by Caelanbaggins
I love how customizable it is! My only complaint is that it doesn’t seem to show replies in a thread, so if someone toots and I view that toot, I can’t see the replies to it. It would be awesome if that could be patched in.
Oh, and it would be cool if notifications would be more detailed, showing the contents of a reply for example.
Nevertheless I still prefer Tootle over tootdon and all the others out there just for the customization and overall design.

I’ve been testing a number of different Mastodon clients, and this app is far and away the best. I like it so much that when the annoying “Are you enjoying Tootle?” nag screen popped up the way it always does in new apps, I actually clicked “yes” and wrote this review! So many ways to customize your view and experience, and supports multiple accounts. And it’s free!

I’ve tried Amarok (I think that’s what it’s called) but it isn’t developed any longer, didn’t have any more updates, and crashed often. this app is updated and I haven’t noticed any crashing. The Fediverse is a big place, and this app does a great job of making it accessible and easy to navigate. I like the customizable buttons and feeds. Notifications are handy, too. Well done.

Tootle is fantastic; it does all it needs to for being a complete mastodon client and looks good. My only minor suggestion would be a setting to display comments in a more logical order. As it is, comments go *up* from the toot you’re looking at, which always feels sort of weird and nonsensical. It would be great if there was a setting to display reply toots in reverse chronological order to mirror what the web client (and most other comment uis) shows, but that’s my only complaint.

Not exaggerating when I say I've tried every Mastodon client on Tootle store, and I was looking specifically for one that had a smooth streaming feature so I can speed-read new posts as they come in without scrolling. It's an easy feature to find on Linux, but harder to find on an iPhone. This was the only app that could do this without crashing. Thank you🙏

I was quite worried upon seeing the in app purchases. I just can't trust Freemium anymore with apps, even though I highly respect developers, I have had many poor experiences. So I was pleasantly surprised to see it was only for donations! Which I will do when I have the cash. Until then I hope my review can make a difference. Not everything in here is immediately intuitive but almost everything you want on mastodon you can do here. The biggest thing for me so far as a new user is I wish the option to block an instance was available from the federated timeline. But instead you have to go into the profile then find it in the three dots drop down on the profile of a person from that instance. Besides that I've been thoroughly enjoying the quality of Tootle. If you want free mastodon done right then it's here. I can't speak for the paid apps though. But if you're a purist and don't want to ever pay for software then again here you have it. Though I recommend you donate!!

Tootle shows a lot of promise! Love lots of the features and the way CWs work just like they do on web mastodon. Pausing the tm is a great feature as well.
One feature I’d like implemented is the ability to hide my followers/following. I have my network hidden on my accounts but I noticed they are not hidden when I use Tootle. Hope to see the “change preview” feature for image uploads added soon as well!

I also tried Mast (yes, I’m out the money I spent on it but it was very little) and a few others... except for that one that says in his description that he’ll never support certain accounts in the fediverse... not sure what that’s about. Anyway, this one has it ALL, and it’s organized in a very easy to use way. I’ve signed in to multiple servers and have had no trouble.

I’ve been using this app for two days. I like the clean interface and the fact that it allows me to participate in polls and see pinned toots- features I’ve not seen with other apps. It also doesn’t require me to clear the cache constantly and the layout makes it easier to navigate than others I’ve used. One suggestion would be to have more voice features. I like to dictate my texts and it would be nice to have them read. I think many others would like that feature, as well. Media appears to operate smoothly. Search feature works well. This May well become my preferred app. Good job! And thanks!

Best option for the iPad so far. Love the color customization, glad the latest update fixed the annoying apostrophe issue. On major bug & 1 shortcoming- it still crashes sometimes when I try to access my photo library, & there’s no photo caption option. Would be nice if content warnings persisted when replying to a toot with a content warning. Glad to see that it’s still getting updated. I’ve donated to the author & May do so again.

This definitely is the best Mastodon app I ever used. 谁用谁知道x
I got on this app cause the font on cellphone webpage cannot be enlarged, which is very difficult to read for a near-sighted person like me. this app has all the features I need on the phone and can be customized easily. once I see someone on Mastodon has some difficulty with their app, I recommend this.
Thank you for doing such a brilliant job! Happy tooting!
