This app is funded by VC money and defaults to creating accounts on its own instance while adding friction for anyone wanting to use another instance. This is to create a centralized and easy-to-track service that can then be sold to advertisers and fascist governments. They say you can move your account to another server, but for how long? Once they have a subscription plan in place, if one decides they don’t want to pay, will the developer block people from moving their account? I think with what we’ve learned about centralized services, we can most assuredly say that yes, they will do anything they can to extract their VC money out investment many times over. VCs are in it to make money and to multiply their investment. They’ll do whatever they need to achieve that. The users are pawns. Stay away from this app, specific service and developer, and use another client that doesn’t have any of this baggage. And to matters even worse, this app was developed by the same person who worked on Mast. Mast was a (very buggy and unstable) paid-upfront app, that its developer got bored with and completely abandoned. The developer also took pleasure in mocking their paying customers who reported bugs. There is zero redeeming value with this app, developer or the organization behind it all. Just use another client.

This app is being developed by the developer of Mast. A mastodon client that didn’t not work half the time and was sold off to another developer. He then went to make Aviary for Twitter using the same code which introduced the same bugs that never got addressed. That app was being sold for a small sum to use. Dev would later abandon the app with all its bugs to move on to Aviary 2. Using the exact same code as his previous app which meant the same bugs. He charged a premium price along with a subscription for that junk. Vinyls was also another app that he went on to create and abandon after 6 months. Do not use this persons apps (he goes by jpeguin on social media aka shihab mehboob). Mammoth is being funded by VC, meaning this app won’t be free for long. Investors will need to get their money back somehow. It also directs you to their own instance which is a red flag for the new user. Do not use this app. There are many others that are free and have more features. Ice cubes is a great app that is OPEN SOURCE and received constant updates. Ivory is Tweetbot but for mastodon, and then there’s Mona which has a whole load of customization features available to you.
