After years of searching for a Google Inbox replacement I found it!….only for its ridiculously expensive and non competitive pricing structure. To activate this for my work email and personal would be $15/month….$180/year. I don’t mind paying for a great app, but to put this in the perspective:

Spark Mail is 1/3 the cost at $60/year and has similar bundling features, AI summary/composing, AND works with non-Gmail accounts AND has a unified inbox.

Canary Mail, which although different does contain intelligent tools to achieve inbox zero, and has similar AI summary/compose features, compatibility with non-Gmail accounts, and a unified inbox ….and if I go hog-wild and buy their MacOS + iOS bundle I would still only pay $35/year…approx 1/5 the cost. (They also offer a lifetime, non-subscription option).

I could go on. There are many other email app options and few touch Shortwaze’s exorbitant pricing.

I want this app to take my money! Even without a unified inbox or the ability to use with my iCloud email. I ask myself: if this app is better…is it really 3x better than Spark? 5x better than Canary? Its good, but not THAT good.

Email is a challenging problem due to its outdated protocol, which imposes strict limitations. this app is by far the best in the market - especially their AI-enabled features.

Since I started using this app, managing my email has been much less painful. It has a clean, responsive interface, and efficiently offloads tasks to Gmail in the background, maintaining a clear separation of responsibilities for a seamless integration. When I've encountered bugs and contacted support, they've responded immediately and resolved the issues promptly.

my favorite feature by far is AI summarization, writing and AI enabled search - which are all paid features. being able to query your email search history via freeform questions has been a real game changer for me!

this app team - reason for 2 star review is the iPad version of Shortwave needs some major quality control! AI features are still broken on my iPad pro 12.9 inch. Whenever you submit a message the dialog window scrolls up and disappears - making it impossible to continue conversation.

this app is regularly updated with new features. The AI interactions are quickly improving, the built-in todo functions are regularly refined and tweaked. The four stars is because some of this change is too fast — I get used to one way of managing everything and then there’s a new way to do it! (But change is good, right?)

The web version is my favorite, because you get to see so much on a large screen. The iPhone version does a great job packing it all in, but it’s a more limited experience. So definitely get it — and get the paid AI features, and use it on your laptop or desktop for the full benefits.

this app email is a breath of fresh air in an already congested market. Its design is clean, intuitive and user friendly. It is easily customizable with many useful features desired by customers. It also packs in a smart and adaptable AI into its programs, making it an e-mail platform capable of learning how the user uses Shortwave , responds to their emails, and custom-tailoring to its owner’s needs.

However, with vigorous response from its competitors, this app is intentionally limiting its ability to reach the market. Gmail, Outlook, Thunderbird, and multiple other clients also contain AI ability now. While this app beat its competition releasing these features to the public, some features locked behind paywalls or not included make this client more difficult to recommend.
These include read receipts, removal of watermarks, adding more than one email address, adding more than just gmail addresses, etc.

With the refinement of its features by Gmail and Outlook and allowing me to maintain all of my emails in one place, it gets harder and harder to justify keeping this app as my main client as the popular clients have added this app’s main pull, and already offers other features that this app doesn’t offer/hides behind a paywall.

Overall, this app is a fantastic concept but is self-limiting in a game where every edge is necessary in order to make a dent, and make a difference.

I have really missed the days since we had Inbox by Email bundles. This AI email client brings that functionality back and much more! This client, both desktop and mobile here, makes email management a breeze. The AI summarizations are fantastic. The this app team is super responsive and keeps adding awesome features such as AI calendar scheduling and to do/task management features. This will be me primary email client for the foreseeable future!

i've always been a spark user, but I got tired of lackluster updates and AI features. So I went on Google to search up the next best thing and I found this app. using the free tier is enough for me for now, but it has been a game changer in making responding to emails quick and easy using the AI assistant. It just makes the mundane responses a little better and a little quicker. It saves me a ton of time and that's all I could ask for from an email app.

I think this app has gone back to roots enabling blocking to be easier across domains, unifying the inboxes, and being able to add custom categories that Google’s Inbox has years back that was abandoned. Using Email from Edison to Spark Mail, I think like Shortwave takes the best of all (Without over complicating it like Spark) without adding bells and whistles (Edison with their “Assistant” or their package tracking). Looking forward to future development on Shortwave!

Intuitive, clean, and incredibly powerful: my email flow has never felt more manageable. I am grateful for the this app team and all the effort they have put into this product. Would strongly recommend for anyone who is trying to make their inbox work for them rather than feel like an untamed beast.

My only request for improvement is cosmetic. With some email newsletters, the margins are cut off when reading on my mobile device. It is a small issue that results in losing a letter here and there, which isn’t a huge deal but is less than ideal.

this app is a great solution for managing multiple email addresses. With this app, you can automate the process of receiving and sorting important emails, while also keeping track of sales and offers without cluttering up your inbox. The setup process may take some time, but the documentation is clear and easy to follow. Additionally, you can use the AI model to ask questions about your inbox and learn more about how to use the product. Overall, this app has been a lifesaver for both my personal and work emails. Highly recommend!

It makes email such an easy part of my day now. My favorite features is using AI to search old messages, using AI to write new messages, bundling marketing emails so they all hit my inbox at 6pm instead of pestering my notifications all day, and finally my most favorite feature is messages show up on my Apple Watch, so I can just glance at it, understand that it’s just an fyi (such as reminder to pay a bill etc), then press one button to archive it. I used to dread having to deal with my emails, but now I get more done and it’s something I barely even think about. Thanks this app!

Never loved the interface of Gmail on my iPhone. Searched for an app which would be a cleaner interface and help keep my email organized - enter this app! Easy to set up, simple to use and much nicer to look at (simple as that). Plus, the AI they employ to write emails is AWESOME! The AI learns your email response style and language. It’s getting to the point that when the AI gives me a suggested reply I find myself saying “I was about to type that!”. If you’re looking for an alternative to Gmail without losing Gmail, give this app a try - you’ll be happy you did.

I’ve been a fan of innovate email apps going back to mailbox and inbox. This team comes from inbox and does much of the same thing absolutely right. Bundles are just a superior way to reduce email clutter. The threading keeps conversations organized even when there’s forwards and splits of the chain. It’s super easy to switch between my work and personal mail. And it’s cross platform with a web version.

I use the free version and while there are limitations, I hardly run into them. And I frankly like that they have subscription plans and have monetized so I can be optimistic that Shortwave won’t go away (and hopefully not ruined by an acquisition either). The AI feature I have tried the most is creating drafts and I think that’s useful in some cases. I’m glad they’re charging for it.

Again - highly recommend the free version. Even that is superior to gmail or the base Apple mail app.

this app has been great to use. I love that it not only helps me organize my inbox in a quick and meaningful way but it also helps me keep it clean by being able to delete loads of junk mail with just one click. I love everything about it - with one exception and that is when communicating in really long email threads with people that of highly sensitive in nature or extremely important - the user experience is not great. So for those I’ll go back to my normal email account and manage that there. But seriously, now-a-days I do 99.9% of my email in this app and wont be leaving anytime soon.

Three key features stand out:

The rules for creating these bundles are incredibly user-friendly, thanks to the autocomplete feature for email addresses. Additionally, I can schedule when specific emails, such as Facebook updates, arrive, ensuring they land at more convenient times, like the weekend.

- Enhanced AI Email Composer: The AI email composer has significantly improved over time. It now analyzes entire email threads to provide contextually relevant suggestions. The recently introduced feature that enhances email composition based on the content of the email is also incredibly useful.

- Impressive Calendar Integration: The newly introduced calendar functionality is fantastic. It allows me to query my calendar and schedule events directly from my email, saving me a lot of time.

Overall, Shortwave is an excellent example of how AI can be leveraged to boost productivity.

I have been using this app for about a month and a half and it has changed the way I have managed my email inbox. It makes email manageable again, I feel more on top of all of my messages, more capable, and able to manage follow up from emails, And more responsive in general.

I use it to manage both personal and work email for a nonprofit board that I am on. The ability to use AI in email responses has decreased my turnaround time in responding to messages. It’s ability to summarize messages. Forwarding is essential and increases user readability.

I cannot recommend this email client enough to those feeling overwhelmed by day to day inbox management.

I almost never leave reviews, but I'm leaving one for this app because: it works. The landscape of email clients on MacOS is an apocalyptic wasteland of good ideas terribly executed, and this app has finally ended my multi-year search for an email client that works like a modern, professional email client should.

The AI integration works, too. Yes, it hiccups, but this is brand-new technology and although immature, it has already saved me time. I'm beginning more accustomed to chatting about my email, and less reliant on search.

I honestly have almost zero complaints. Better spam sensing, sure. Easier to block folks, yeah. But really, my one yellow flag is that the front end needs some more work. By its nature, this app is aimed at people who are forced to navigate information-dense interfaces, and the front-end doesn't really support that as well as the underlying features do. It's just fine for day-to-day use, but I'm sure that's on the team's radar and am looking forward to how that changes over time.

If you've been wondering why you can't have a feature-rich, pro-oriented email experience on MacOS, instead of one that looks like "My First Email by Playskool", just sign up. You won't regret it.

I love the ability to fine-tune my email inbox with this app—setting schedules for receiving newsletters and promotional emails during off hours means fewer distractions. And getting to Inbox Zero is easy and intuitive, if that’s your thing. While I don’t use the AI features (I’m a professional writer and the nature and volume of my email correspondence wouldn’t benefit from an AI ghostwriter), I can see how Shortwave ’s AI agent could be very helpful to people who have to process a lot of complex or sensitive emails every day. I also have to credit the team with a quick and thorough response to a help request. Regarding price, at $80 a year for the personal version, renewal is still an open question; we’ll see how sticky this gets by renewal time. At $60 it would be an easy yes; a price hike would likely send me back to Gmail.

I can’t tell you the amount of stress and anxiety that I would feel every day when I would have to look at my inbox. Finding this app has really changed my life. It has organized things so well that I don’t really have to think about anything anymore. I am seriously excited to see what they come up with next! I am at inbox zero a lot now, which was not even ever possible before.
