Update: As I’ve used BoardGameGeek more, I’ve noticed more glaring issues and omissions. One instance is being able to do a search in GeekLists. You can only see automated “Hot” GeekLists. This feels like a massive oversight. Other lists are also difficult to find, such as the top games that have a specific mechanic or theme. Another issue is that the main page feels very cluttered and doesn’t display what I would classify as the most relevant information near the top, such as news. I really couldn’t care less about the Hotness list because it’s not that dynamic, whereas the news should be posting things several times a day. On that note, you really have to dig for BGG’s news as it’s buried in a submenu. I’d love to one day see a sort of feed like what I see on IGN’s app (I know, different industry, different standards, but you get my drift). The automated lists could have their own tab, GeekLists theirs. All this said, there’s so much info in one place, I’d rate BoardGameGeek a 4.5. Unfortunately, in board game terms, I have to round down. Btw, those negative reviews talking about free speech are obviously just mad that they got kicked off for hate speech. I’m glad that BGG doesn’t tolerate such behavior as that stifles discussion and feelings of inclusion. Board games are for everyone, not just the privileged who don’t normally pay consequences for what they say. Original: Been into board games for a year or so and it always struck me as odd that BGG didn’t have their own app. So many other third party apps are in the store to make up for that, but all of them are glitchy or don’t have many features. At last, BGG has released their own app, and the more I play with it, the more I love it. From seamlessly adding games to collections to contributing on forums to going through the news to looking at Kickstarter games…it’s like they took every single detail on the admittedly old-school site and made it look great on modern phones. The ads that people are complaining about are easily ignored. Some people just want to nitpick when the good clearly outweighs the bad. I have no complaints. Keep up the great work, BGG!
