Great training aid

I always prided myself as a great driver. TrueLane helped me realize that I tend to acelérate and break too hard. The feedback allowed me to determine that I tend to speed when talking to a passenger in my car and makes me more alert now that I know that it happens.
I don’t give it 5* because on some occasions only part of my route was recorded.

Review

It did get me to slow down on turns. I have been driving the same car for 20 years and am very comfortable with the way it handles. My wife likes it better when I slow for turns.
I was accused of doing 39 mph in a 25, when I was on a road that was 40 mph. Other than that, I get along with TrueLane . There is always going to be a stopped too quickly, but they are generally caused by the driver in front of you when they didn’t realize they almost passed the grocery store turn off.
I have been retired for one year now, but before that I would drive for 4 to 6 hours a day as part of my work week. For the last 15 years, we always had a monitoring device in the dash, attached to the computer port.
I am a safe driver and am comfortable using a tracking device.
We are still not sure how it tells whom is driving when both my wife and I are riding together.
I am also not sure if I can have my phone app run my Sirious XM program without being penalized for cell phone usage.
I also like the fact that you can get back up to 100 with a few trips.
I guess that’s all. If you could get back to me on the Sirius XM use and how it tells which passenger is the driver, I would ll feel that this long message was worth it.

An Angel on my shoulder

TrueLane has me more aware of my driving habits by reminding me when I speed, brake hard, accelerate too quickly, and more.
You can easily review your last trip and see where these events took place.
The only downside to this is it can’t possibly tell when you need to engage in defensive driving and lowers your score automatically. i. e. When you approach a yellow light “at that odd distance” or when you encounter a bad driver and you’re forced to either swerve, accelerate, or brake hard.
Thank goodness these occurrences are few and far between.

Decent app

While I like TrueLane , I don’t like the assumed Speeding because you have to drive according to the traffic flow. If it’s slow, you drive slow, if it’s a faster flow, you keep up otherwise some dumb driver may smack into you—I have a new vehicle and I ain’t trying to get it messed up. Otherwise it’s a decent app

Hello

I wish you could explain why your phone is being used or why you hit your breaks. I live in deer county. I drive back roads everyday and when you come around a corner sometimes you have to hit your breaks. I have hands free calling with my car and also sometimes my grandson likes to watch movies.

Could be better

Only knock is that it can’t just use location when in use, uses a lot of battery

By

I like this app because it reminds me to be extra careful.

We have very heavy traffic in yuma because of the harvesting equipment and crews, and because we still have many winter visitors I always expect the unexpected, TrueLane makes it fun to drive.

By

I phone issues

Each time I reset my phone, I lose my Tru Lane screen. The “Motion and Fitness” and “Always” is on, but that notification keeps reappearing.

By

App great… measurements not so much

The user interface and features are great. Some of the measurements (eg hard cornering and acceleration) are suspect.

Keeps Me Properly Behaved

Braking hard is never correct, acceleration incorrect, and has tracked me on the incorrect street. I was on a short street pulling up to a T intersection stop sign and got a hard braking penalty. Just one example. There are more.

Having an application monitor you exact location in life, where you go, etc. is very invasive in my book. Having been in IT for well over 20 years does NOT endear me to this app. I have no desire to have my whereabouts monitored remotely by anyone for any reason. The accelerometers for acceleration, braking etc. would be more than enough in most circumstances to indicate what kind of a driver you are as a whole. Remember all of this data sent on by apps like that can and are usually shared with anyone who is interested including but not limited to government, and groups with political interests. The problem with data in general is that it can be skewed to fit the purposes of different groups that obtain and use it. For example, I drive slower than speed limit nearly all the time to save gas, money etc. That does not stop my wife from condemning me because I am driving slower than most drivers around me which are driving 15-20 mph over the limit most of the time where I reside. If the location could be turned off on the app, I would be more amenable to using it. But I have NO desire for whatever interested parties are wanting to know where I go, when I go and return since this can be used to monitor whereabouts of the people participating in the activities. Remember, data of itself has never been an issue. But once out in the public and private domains can NOT be recalled, erased, nor cleansed from interested parties with political or other agendas that may not be helpful to your future as a driver nor a citizen of the US or elsewhere in the world. Keep in mind my education is in the insurance industry. But I cannot condone this kind of invasion of privacy merely to satisfy entities' interest.

I called your tech line for True Lane waited 10 minutes for someone to answer and didn't understand a word of English He said I had to disconnect still having problems with true Lane

Sharon   7 months ago

Not worth the discount. Track everything. Even the police let you go a little over speed limit. Doesn’t account acceleration for passing,

Tom McGuire   8 months ago

I have just started using the driving app. I have 4 or 5 trips (local traffic trips), and two "events" already, though my score is 91. One event was braking, the other cornering. I agree with so many of the comments here about how the app fails to take into account actions of other drivers on the road that force you to brake hard or accelerate or speed. It is not fair or right to be dinged for such infractions when you have no choice but to brake harder than usual, or whatever. I have a sterling driving record, and this app makes me feel like I am a "suspect" driver who needs to pay better attention to my driving. And, I don't believe the app is always right. Today, I got dinged for "cornering" turning on to my side street going probably 7 MPH. It said I was going 19 MPH and cornered too hard. That is just ridiculous. I will give it the 6 month policy limit and see how things go with it. If I do not get 25% discount on my next policy, I will consider it a totally bogus P.O.S.

The pickup that is insured sets for weeks at a time. But I have to leave it on for work truck. Several hard braking even the wife's phone when she was a passenger. Today was the one totally screwed up. Had me doing 78 mile an hrs in a 60. I work road repair and haul 70000 lbs loads. And on theses roads your lucky to do 55. So for me it is a worthless app

James Allen   8 months ago

Had nothing but trouble with this app. As stated in one review you need to drive with the flow of traffic. It the speed limit it 75 and you driving 55 your going to get rear ended on a crowded highway. If I'm pulling out of my driveway onto the 5 lane street and do not step on the gas. I will get t-boned. If I make a U-turn of any type I get dinged on that too. Some one pulls out in front of me and I hit the brakes to avoid an accident, Bam,! I get ding on that..

I am so frustrated by using TrueLane mobile app! I didn’t use my phone when I just went to the grocery store to pick few things up, and when I saw the speed sign from 35 changed to 45, I was driving with the speed of 45. Later I saw the rating from TrueLane saying I am speeding! Sometimes we need to speed up getting into the highway, then I got ‘cornering’! I guess this software is good for the people who are driving maximum speed of 35, even the speed sign is 45!

I give this app 3 stars and that is generous. There appears to be a built-in bias in the algorithm. It will rate one particular measure at four stars, i.e. cornering and it will rate the other five categories at five stars yet the overall rating for that trip will be four stars. I have also experienced other challenges with the app that resulted in my having to repay The Hartford for previous discounts. The app needs some improvement in my opinion.

get a message that says associate phone. There was a problem during association. It will not record my trips. I have done uninstall/install. Also, I keep getting pop-up saying not connected to internet at random times even when I am not driving.

tony   10 months ago

I got 3 warning about acceleration. 1 for increase 30.8mph in 13.9 sec, 1 for increase 18.3mph in 6 sec and 1 for increase 30.4mph in 16.4 sec. I guess it still has some bugs need to fix.

negatives: 1. passenger in car, esp a grandkid, uses my phone while I'm driving. 2. does not account for what other poor drivers make us do (like a fast braking). 3. can't handle someone not driving for a few days (retired, new lie). 4. Why would AARP think an app like this is good for older drivers anyway? I trusted the AARP recommendation, what folly.

al dipaolo   1 year ago

I have had the true lane device in my car for 246 days and over 2300 miles. When I signed up for the program I was told that I only need to keep in my car for 180 days I have no events. I guess they are waiting for me to have a few events before they allow me to remove it.

I will be out of the country and I do not want to be charged on my phone. I will not be driving. How does this work?

Ronald Mueller   1 year ago

This app is an invasion of one's privacy and is unreal when it deducts points for incidents that have a reason for acting the way they occurred. The app can't see the lay of the road or the reason you braked, accelerated, or used a phone. It would have you drive through a changing light at a busy intersection rather than brake hard to stop in time. It doesn't like you cornering at 25mph in a 35mph zone on a banked curve. When entering an expressway it is necessary to merge with heavy traffic as you see fit rather than the way it thinks you should. Never have your cellphone ring even if you don't answer it or have it giving you directions from Siri in your passenger's hand. Start out with it and have all hundreds for scores and when you see these unfair deductions the discount isn't worth it. You'll be with this Gestapo app for 365 days of your policy and Cambridge Telemetrics will enable the insurance company to eliminate these discounts. This is one app that even a saint couldn't pass. I am one irritated consumer who called it quits with a score of 96 and a slew of award badges. I can't believe AARP and Hartford see where using this is good customer relations.

What is a distraction... I was on hands-free calling and was in stop and go traffic in a very rural area... driving under the speedlimit... so why the poor rating for that 2min58sec!

Ernesto ABUTAR ABADEJOS   1 year ago

I just switched to Hartford for my car & home insurance (fully paid in advance) but will not take effect until August 31. 1) I received Messages from Hartford that I need to enroll NOW with TrueLane. My car insurance does not begin until August 31. Do I really have to enroll now? My car coverage is from August 31, 2022 to February 28, 2023 (6 months). 2) I will be out of the country from August 31, 2022 to January 20, 2023. And I will be driving another car in a foreign soil. That' s also one reason I don't want to enroll with TrueLane until January 21,2023 because if I do I will be accumulating THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS FOR LONG DISTANCE PHONE FEES AT $0.65 per minute for about 5 months.

Good service if it worked. My phone states service is temporary out of service for a week.

Charles Croston   1 year ago

Truelane has not been working on my smartphone for a week, says service is temp unavailable. Is this costing me discounts?

Joseph Norris   1 year ago

Truelane hit me with 4 DISTRACTIONS while I was in Autozone - car locked and not running in their lot. Another DISTRACTION hit was while filling up the car with gas at Kroger. I was also hit with a DISTRACTION while sitting in Kroger parking lot waiting to have my groceries brought to me. The other DISTRACTION was waiting in the driveway for my wife to bring me my wallet - car not moving. The BRAKING hits were all slowing down at streetlights or Stop signs. The app is worthless unless it is just to reduce discounts you have earned. I have NO legitimate hits after 2 months.
